Position Overview

Based in the coastal town of Fort Dauphin in the southeast of Madagascar, this post will support a range of operational and administrative tasks required to run an International NGO.  The successful candidate will work within a combined national and international team to provide a wide range of support to SEED’s team including supporting the development of organisational policy and procedures, preparing internal and external reports, lead on onboarding for incoming staff and supporting short term volunteers. The role is predominantly office-based in the small coastal town of Fort Dauphin. The diversity of activities undertaken will provide a wide-ranging experience for an early career development professional who can effectively and efficiently deal with a comprehensive range of tasks related to the complex world of overseas development.

About the organisation

SEED Madagascar is a British Charity working in partnership with communities in the south east of Madagascar. We integrate high quality community health, rural livelihoods, education infrastructure and conservation programmes to support long term, sustainable change and add to international best practice through research and publication across all of our programmatic areas. We are now looking for entry level officers to work alongside national staff and expand our team.

Title: Operational Support Intern - change of title and responsibilities to Operational Support Officer subject to passing 3-month probationary review.

Location: Fort Dauphin, Anosy Region, Madagascar

Commitment: 12 months extendable

Salary: Voluntary for 12 months, with stipend of 800,000 MGA per month towards accommodation and a contribution of £650 towards insurance

Duties and Responsibilities:

International Staff Logistics 

1. Provide pre-departure logistical oversight, support and advice with visas, hotels, flights, accommodation, medication etc to new international staff 

2. Lead on supporting international staff during their initial time with SEED including arrival, orientation, social inclusion, cultural understanding, housing and integration into the SEED team 

3. Provide pastoral care and leadership, working with line managers to ensure that new and existing international staff members’ wellbeing is supported 

4. Support on the recruitment of international staff, including the advertisement of vacancies

Operations

1. Assist in the preparation of reports for internal and external audiences including Annual Reports and Malagasy Ministry reports

2. Work with the Director of Operations and Programmes, and the International Operations Manager in developing, updating and implementing organisational databases, systems, policies and procedures across the NGO

3. Support on creating, editing and writing website content to ensure organisational and project information is up-to-date

4. Work with national staff to increase their skills and capacity, providing mentoring or training where appropriate

5. Work alongside the IT Officer to provide basic IT and equipment management support 

6. Support the health and safety culture across the organisation, providing guidance and review where necessary

7. Support with the writing of minutes and taking notes across the organisation

8. Support project teams where required to develop systems to manage donor compliance, or support with financial or administrative reporting requirements

Supporting conservation volunteers

1. Support the Volunteer Operations and Administration Officer with the on-boarding and logistics of the short-term conservation volunteers

2. Support the SCRP team in Sainte Luce when required on orientations and pastoral care of volunteers

3. Support the Communications team with advertising the volunteer programme and helping volunteers to increase their fundraising efforts

4. Provide day to day oversight of on-boarding and problem solving in the absence of the Volunteer Officer 

General 

1. Ensure all of SEED’s policies and procedures are evident throughout the work of the department, including those for safeguarding, whistleblowing and anti-corruption, and undertake continual training to ensure these are always promoted

2. Assist with administration tasks and any other tasks required by the International Operations Manager or Director of Programmes and Operations in line with the tasks of the post

Required Skills & Experience/Person Specification 

• Hold an undergraduate degree in or relating to Development or Conservation or be able to demonstrate a passion for these areas

• Be able to work independently and be proactively

• Have good all round computing skills and experience in Microsoft Office 

• Have previous experience working to deadlines and have ability to successfully manage their time

• Communicate clearly and engagingly in written English across a range of media forms

• Be able to communicate verbally to encompass the range of cultures you will be working with

• To have a good level of written English and be able to proofread documents to a high standard

• To have a curious mind and a patient, problem solving attitude

• Ideally have previous experience living, working or travelling in a developing country, though is not essential

• Be fluent in English. A working knowledge of French is desirable but not essential

• Be capable and comfortable adapting to life in a least developed country with sometimes basic living conditions

• Be able to work and socialise within a small group of people and to be respectful and take personal responsibility for maintaining a good reputation for the NGO in the community

• Be able to adjust to life in another culture and a foreign language and be able to work at all times with cultural sensitivity

• Demonstrate the ability, social skills and confidence to give clear guidance and support to other members of the team in respect of the philosophy and procedures of SEED in order to protect both their safety and the reputation of the NGO.

What will you be doing?

Our Board is made up of Trustees and Co-opted Trustees who bring together their skills and experience to provide stewardship to Gingerbread and its staff. We are seeking Trustees with a variety of skills and experience to join our Board. 

In addition to the statutory duties of Trustees, each Trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of Trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Trustees generally meet for full Board meetings a minimum of five times a year.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for Trustees with the following experience and capabilities: 

· Fundraising, particularly around Trusts and Statutory Fundraising, Corporate pitch development, and Individual Giving experience. As well as experience developing Fundraising and Engagement strategies. 

· Financial management, mainly focused in the charity sector. 

· Service delivery experience. 

· Safeguarding experience. 

· Legal, HR, IT, and GDPR are also skillsets we are also interested in recruiting.

We are looking for someone to deliver our OCN (Open College Network) Accredited training to prison leavers in community settings. OCN training is one of many ways in which Fine Cell Work supports prison leavers to build skills, confidence, and self-belief. OCN is usually delivered to people currently in prison, and prison leavers engaging on the charity’s post-release programme Open the Gate. We are now piloting further outreach work for prison leavers to access this training and the benefits that it brings.

Fine Cell Work are looking for an individual with stitching experience, ideally with experience of teaching others, and who share the charity’s values. Full training with Fine Cell Work, specifically in OCN delivery, will be provided.

Position Overview

An exciting and unique internship opportunity to work closely with key senior operational staff in a respected UK international development charity; this position has strong vocational content for anyone looking to break into the international development sector with future possibilities of progression into roles within the UK and/or Madagascar.

The post holder will gain hands-on experience in international development, gain understanding and skills across a wide range of duties associated with programmes development, corporate fundraising, volunteer coordination, and practical charity management.

The internship spans a minimum of six months and is a remote role. The diversity of activities that will be undertaken provides training for an early-career development professional who can effectively and efficiently deal with a comprehensive range of tasks related to the complex world of overseas development work.

Reporting to: Grants and Administrative Assistant

Location: Remote

Commitment: Part-time, two days a week for a minimum of six months

Salary: N/A (voluntary)

Responsibilities:

1. Supporting the Programmes & Partnership Manager in securing trust and foundation funding, which will include: performing donor research; drafting, proofreading, and editing grant applications and reports (in part or in full); and ad hoc administration relating to donor management.

2. Supporting the Corporate Liaison Officer to secure corporate funding, which will include: researching potential donor companies; supporting corporate facing marketing materials; and supporting creation of report and proposal materials.

3. Supporting the Managing Director and the Director of Programmes and Operation, to ensure the smooth running of the organisation, which will include: preparing financial reports and documentation; note taking at trustees’ meetings; supporting development of policy and procedural documentation; building on fundraising and networking opportunities; and supporting the recruitment process.

It should be noted that the successful candidate will take on a variety of tasks outlined above. While SEED Madagascar will make every attempt to tailor the tasks to the post-holder’s desired area of experience, this will be balanced by the priorities of the organisation.

Desired Knowledge/Experience/Skills/Qualifications

• Hold or be studying towards an undergraduate degree in or relating to international development (or have equivalent professional/experiential background).

• Knowledge and/or keen interest in development and/or conservation issues facing least developed countries such as Madagascar; previous experience living or working in a developing country would be an asset.

• Knowledge and/or keen interest in at least one of SEED Madagascar’s five core areas (community health; sustainable livelihoods; environmental conservation; education infrastructure and water, sanitation and hygiene); previous experience of community-based work would be an asset.

• Excellent analytical skills and ability to gather and assimilate information from various sources, compile documents (reports and proposals), and identify lessons learnt and best practice.

• Sound ability to adapt material for different audiences.

• Be able to conduct internet research.

• Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

• Be able to financially support themselves for the duration of their internship as there is no stipend available for travel or sustenance.

• Strong written English is essential, French and/or Malagasy would be an asset.

• Be willing to take on mundane tasks such as drafting thank you notes for donors

The role in a nutshell:

Volunteers help to keep our UK charity shops running like clockwork and are an essential part of everything that we do. Our charity shops raise vital funds that support the wide range of services Age UK delivers, so if you have some free time available and would like to help, we’d love to hear from you! Whether you are looking to gain new skills and experiences, use those you already have or are just looking for a way to get out and meet new people, then we have flexible options to suit you!What will you be doing?

Volunteer Shop Assistants carry out a wide range of tasks in their roles. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, keeping our shop floor full and organised or supporting with raffle ticket sales and promoting gift aid.

How would you be supported in this role?

When you begin your role, you will receive a mix of e-learning and in-person training to get you started. Throughout the role, you will receive refresher training as required as well as ongoing support, reimbursement for role-related expenses and the opportunity to further shape the volunteering you do.

Why do we need volunteers in this role?

Age UK operates charity shops to raise funds for the delivery of services for older people in need. Volunteers play a key role in the shop team, ensuring our shops are welcoming places in the community and selling the items that are generously donated to our organisation.

What skills, interests or experience might be helpful in this role?

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need any retail or shop experience as full training will be provided. Volunteering for Sense

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health, safety and social distancing measures to ensure the safety of everyone

Havering Young People’s Mentoring Service provides support, advice and guidance to young people aged 10-18, encouraging them to make positive choices and achieve their goals.

Mentors are matched with a young person and meet with them on a weekly basis, for a period of up to 6 months. During this time, a strong relationship is built through a variety of activities and trips, including a monthly group meeting with other volunteers and young people engaged in the Service.

In order to become a mentor, potential volunteers will be required to attend a two day training programme before being accepted onto the programme. Volunteers will need to be over 18 years old and be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check plus provide references.

This role includes:

• Attending an initial matching meeting with a young person
• Committing to 6 months of mentoring with a young person
• Meeting a young person once a week for around 2 hours
• Providing brief recording following meetings to the Volunteer Team
• Working with a young person to review their goals and plan for mentoring
• Accompanying a young person to monthly group meetings
• Acting in the best interests of a young person

Skills and experience required::

• Confident and able to communicate well with young people from a range of different backgrounds
• Can engage with staff and partners to promote the aims and quality of the Early Help Service, and comply with relevant policies and procedures
• Commitment to act in the best interests of young people and comply with jointly-agreed plans
• Experience of working with children or young people, in any capacity
• Willing to undertake training where necessary
• Enthusiasm and commitment towards child development and keeping children safe

What will you be doing?

Our Board is made up of Trustees and Co-opted Trustees who bring together their skills and experience to provide stewardship to Gingerbread and its staff. 

The role of Treasurer is to maintain an overview of Gingerbread’s affairs, ensure its financial viability and ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.

Trustees generally meet for full Board meetings a minimum of five times a year. Please see request a copy of the candidate pack for further details.

What are we looking for?

The Treasurer should have the following qualities: 

· Financial qualifications and experience. 

· Some experience of charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes. 

· The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences. 

· Being prepared to make unpopular recommendations to the board. 

· A willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.

Wolfram Syndrome UK (WSUK)

WSUK is a small national charity based in West Sussex that supports children, young people and adults affected by Wolfram Syndrome (WS) and their parents/wider families. WS is an ultra-rare genetic disorder which causes a complex range of symptoms, including diabetes mellitus, vision problems, renal problems, deafness, and neurological problems. WSUK provides current, accurate and family-friendly information, raises awareness of WS among health professionals and the public, and helps to fund WS research. 

WSUK Treasurer

The WSUK Board is seeking to recruit a Treasurer to complement and extend the range of skills and experience of its current members. This voluntary role will maintain an overview of WSUK’s activities to ensure its financial viability and that proper financial procedures are maintained. Through active participation in quarterly Board meetings (on-line), this role will help WSUK to achieve its ambitions to continue to develop the activities and services it delivers to the WS community.

Skills and experience

WSUK is seeking a treasurer who is committed and motivated to help lead this small, but growing charity. Some financial experience and skills are needed, along with good independent judgement, an ability to communicate clearly and a team-oriented approach. You will become an important part of a dynamic charity, and you will be able to see how your involvement, skills and experience, directly benefit the people living with this challenging, ultra-rare condition.

Treasurer role description

Summary of the role:

The overall role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation’s affairs, ensure its financial viability and ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.

Overall responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Treasurer include:

· Overseeing and approving budgets, accounts and financial statements.

· Ensuring proper records are kept and effective financial procedures and controls are in place.

· Regularly reporting the financial position at Board meetings (e.g. quarterly reports), drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way.

· Overseeing the production of an annual budget and proposing its adoption at the last meeting of the previous financial year.

· Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs.

· Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.

· Liaising with members of the WSUK team about financial matters.

· Liaising at a Board level with external auditors on specific issues in the auditing process.

· Guiding and advising fellow trustees to formally approve the annual report and audited accounts.

· Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation.

· Appraising the financial viability of plans and proposals.

Responsible to: This role works closely with the Chair and Board of Trustees

 Experience and skills:

The treasurer should have the following qualities:

· Financial experience. (e.g. as a Financial Director, Financial controller or qualified accountant).

· Financial analytical and evaluation skills.

· Good, independent judgement and strong leadership skills.

· Ability to communicate clearly.

· A team-oriented approach to problem solving and to management.

· Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.

· A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort and be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.

· A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

This is a voluntary position although all reasonable expenses are paid (in line with the WSUK expenses policy).

This role will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Time commitment

· The Board meets around 4 times per year, held virtually in the evening.

· The AGM is typically held as a face-to-face meeting on a Saturday afternoon in / near Worthing, West Sussex.

· Attendance at fundraising events and the Wolfram Syndrome annual conference is optional.

 The Applicant needs to reside in the UK.
