Boxing Futures is a dynamic charity which works to improve the physical and mental health and wellbeing of disadvantaged young people. We empower young people by building positive relationships, developing core soft skills, and increasing confidence and motivation.

The board of trustees are jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Farm, it’s financial health, probity of its activities, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document and legal and regulatory guidelines.
All trustees should be aware of, and understand, their individual and collective responsibilities, and should not be overly reliant on one or more individual trustees in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity. For example, all trustees should be able to read the financial accounts.
THE ROLE
Main Responsibilities
· To ensure that the charity, and its representatives, function within all legal and regulatory requirements applicable, and in line with the organisation’s governing document, continually striving for best practice in governance.
· To maintain the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity.
· To take appropriate professional advice in all matters where there may be a material risk to the charity, or where the trustees may be in breach of their duties.
· To determine the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning.
· To avoid any personal conflict of interest.
· To manage and use the resources of the charity so as to optimise its potential.
· To ensure that robust systems are in place for internal financial control and the protection of the charity’s funds and assets.
· To undergo a thorough induction upon appointment and ongoing training to remain alert to, and aware of, their duties and responsibilities, and of the environment in which they operate.
· To achieve the purpose of the charity and to pursue the charitable objects, and provide public benefit.
Main Duties
- Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements, and acts within the confines of its governing document and in furtherance to the charitable objects.
- Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times.
- Promoting and developing the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its public benefit and recognising the situation when it may be more appropriate to wind the charity up where there is no longer a need for the charity to provide the services it does or because the charitable objects are no longer relevant to contemporary social situations.
- Maintaining sound financial management and control of the charity’s resources.
- Ensuring a fully effective and appropriate system for the recruitment, appointment and monitoring of the work and activities of the General Manager and, where applicable, other members of the senior management team.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, striving for best practice in good governance.
- Acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques (including any electronic transactions) and any applications for funds.
- To maintain absolute confidentiality about all aspects of the trustees’ business, bearing in mind the over-riding legal obligations placed upon trustees.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
- An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.

- Knowledge of and interest in animals and community farms is desirable.
- Candidates who are local are desirable, but it is essential that you are able to travel to the farm for meetings, events and the odd day of volunteering.

Deen City Farm and Riding School is an urban farm with an educational focus in the heart of the London Borough of Merton. With over 60,000 visitors a year, our five-acre site includes a farmyard, gardens, riding school, shop, café and small playground. As well as welcoming visitors who want to meet the animals and enjoy the setting, we also work with local schools and community groups to fulfil our charitable aim of improving the lives of everyone in the community. Volunteering is at the heart of the project and we also provide a work experience programme.

The National Museum of Computing (TNMoC) is home to the world’s largest collection of working computers from the 1940s through to the present day. Committee and Project work is generally through virtual or hybrid meetings but some additional attendance at the museum outside of board meetings is expected. About Saint Francis Hospice
Saint Francis Hospice is the main local provider of hospice care. The hospice has 18 specialist palliative care beds on its Ward within the Hospice. It also has an active well-being and day therapy service which provides one-to-one clinical and therapy appointments, as well as group wellbeing activities. 85% of our care is undertaken within the community.
These services are for anyone affected by advanced, progressive disease living in any of our catchment boroughs as shown on our map below. All areas are also covered by our hospice 24-hour Specialist Advice Line and by our Hospice at Home team; a team particularly supporting family and friends, and carers in the last few weeks of life.
We have a range of Well-being services including Bereavement Support for adults and Children, and our Orangeline support services for people in need of support during times of loneliness and loss.
The hospice is also the provider of specialist community and crisis support to people at home and in care homes in Barking & Dagenham, Havering and South West Essex, via a nurse-led specialist team. In Redbridge, that community specialist support is provided by the NHS and other care partners. Partnerships between our local Hospital Trusts and the hospice are well established including in the areas of end of life care services, education, out-of-hours consultant cover, shared cover for senior doctors between hospice and hospital and widening access to specialist palliative care services.
The hospice has an Education Centre on site offering a range of bespoke training and development opportunities for our staff and partner organisations. We offer junior doctor training and work closely with Southbank University providing BSc and MSc Palliative care programmes.
Our care strategy focuses on meeting growing demand whilst still delivering care tailored to each individual. It also includes an emphasis on the teaching, training and support of family, friends and our health and care partners and providers.
About the roles

Commercial/Business Development – For our business development trustee role, we are looking for an individual with broad business, new service development and commercial skills, who can bring new ideas and experience in scaling new service models to our charity and transferable skills to the board.
Fundraising/Income generation – Our fundraising trustee will bring senior strategic fundraising and broader income generation experience, ideally in a charity setting with a national reach.
Healthcare – For this trustee role, we are looking for someone with current knowledge of the health and social care arena – the developments, challenges, wider healthcare market and opportunities, as well as the health economy. Whilst prior experience of end of life/palliative care would be advantageous, it isn’t essential.
For all appointments, we are looking for individuals who can provide trustee oversight on new areas and strategic priorities. Acting as a strong sounding board to the Chair, fellow trustees and the executive team, and able to provide strong strategic advice and overview.

At Phoenix we use our expertise to support people in their personal recovery and to improve their lives. For too long women have had to fit into a treatment system that doesn’t work for them, we believe effective treatment must meet the specific gendered needs of women. That is why we developed Ophelia House a specialist trauma-responsive service exclusively for women.
We are looking to appoint a new trustee to our Ophelia House at the Ley Community Subsidiary Board.
The Ley Community was established as a charity in 1973 and functioned as an independent therapeutic community until 2022 when after joining the Phoenix Group it was transformed the service into a specialist trauma-responsive service exclusively for women.
Along with a keen interest in specialist provision for women, we would welcome people with a range of lived and professional experience, including researchers, academics and people working in the field of trauma or criminal justice. A connection to Oxford would also be welcome.
Ideally our new trustee will come with an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. Previous experience of being a trustee is not essential.

The modern hospice movement began at St Christopher’s over 55 years ago. Our legacy is strong, and our Trustees are currently considering the future health needs of our community so we can continue to deliver the best possible care.
We currently have two vibrant sites in South East London, providing excellent multi-professional care alongside our extensive community work. Last year, we provided care and support to over 7,500 people in the local area, with over 500 inpatient admissions, over 5,000 outpatient appointments, and over 13,000 home visits. We also have 24 charity shops supporting and contributing to our work, with over 500,000 customers visiting our stores last year.
Last year, we launched our new strategy – Making Your Time Matter, 2023-2026. We want to be part of a world where all dying people and those close to them have access to equitable care and support when and wherever they need it. We want to achieve this by tackling inequalities, fulfilling a national and global leadership role, creating a sustainable business model, equipping the future workforce and tackling ethical issues. We want to continue to share cutting-edge thinking and test solutions to improve care, we want to explore assisted dying with our communities and make recommendations to policymakers.
To achieve our vision, we are undertaking a significant refurbishment of our main site and planning our estate requirements to match our future needs. Our new Trustee will play a key role in supporting us as we develop our site and plan our estate for the future to continue to innovate best practice in the hospice movement. Our Trustees provide strategic leadership and expertise from a range of backgrounds and industries, giving St Christopher’s the direction and insight to continue as a world leader in palliative care.
We are looking for a new Trustee with executive-level commercial property experience to add to our existing skilled and diverse team of Trustees as we deliver outstanding care across South East London. We are actively considering the care our community will need in the future and how our estate supports this. As a Trustee, this is an opportunity to be part of shaping St Christopher’s vision, and always keeping the needs of the community at the forefront of what the hospice does. Experience in property and/or construction will be vital in ensuring the property strategy is congruent with our care strategy. We are looking for someone with a knowledge of the property market in South East London with an affinity or passion for our work in end of life care.
Our new Trustee could come from a variety of sectors including property development and/or construction. Strategic leadership experience, ideally at board level, and experience of programme management of projects up to £100m are crucial.
Time Commitment
The board meets quarterly between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at our Sydenham site. We have an annual Board Away Day and an AGM. Trustees join one of our subcommittees, which meets quarterly for an hour and a half online. Overall, including events, preparation for board meetings, and ad hoc conversations with fellow board members and the executive team, we expect the overall time commitment to be the equivalent of up to a day a month spread across various engagements.

We are working in partnership with St John’s Winchester Charity, (SJW) which is now looking to recruit a new Trustee, to join their lively, engaged, collegiate Board, which sets and approves the charity’s strategy.
SJW’s core mission is to help older people live well. It provides almshouse accommodation in central Winchester for about 105 older people with housing and other needs. It also supports older people in Winchester and the surrounding district to continue to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible; with its outreach services – Hand in Hand, established in 2018, and Dementia Support, established in 2022.
SJW is looking to appoint an individual with experience in Domiciliary Care, specifically the commercial aspects of running such a service.
Along with the specific skill set they are looking for the following personal qualities:

The Role

Person Specification
Candidates will need to demonstrate the following qualities alongside demonstrable interest in and commitment to the mission, values and vision of the BPS:
• Strong independent judgment, integrity, and diplomacy skills.
• Boardroom experience as an executive, non-executive director, President, or Chair of an organisation of at least similar size to the Society, or comparable experience.
• Experience and understanding of membership organisations and the charity sector.
• Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship.
• Strong people management experience, including skills in performance management.
• Experience of engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
• Strong financial and business acumen in commercial, academic, or civil society settings.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to join Public Law Project’s (PLP) Board in a key governance and leadership role, providing expertise and insight on financial matters. The role of “Finance Trustee” is an informal title designed to attract the interest of and be accessible to people with a high level of finance skills who might not necessarily have previous experience of the charity sector or at Board level. As a PLP trustee you will be part of the governance of the charity that successfully challenged the prorogation of Parliament, helped survivors whose assets are controlled by their abuser to access legal aid, and are currently representing the lead case opposing the Government’s Rwanda deportation scheme. You will ensure we are able to continue this important work by ensuring the best management of the resources at our disposal. You will play a crucial role in ensuring PLP operates within a framework of good governance and financial stability. The PLP Trustee Board consists of the Chair and up to 12 total members. As a Board member, you and our other trustees take on responsibility for overall governance of our organisation, including the financial health and oversight of our strategic direction. The Board delegates core governance functions to sub-committees including the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee (FARCOM), Fundraising Committee and the Personnel Committee. The purpose of FARCOM is to provide scrutiny and oversight of policies, processes and practice relating to finance and risk. The Chair of FARCOM leads the committee and ensures it fulfils this overall purpose. The duties of a traditional treasurer are held by the Chair of FARCOM. We envisage you joining as one of four trustee members of FARCOM. You will provide recent, relevant financial expertise to FARCOM and its Chair in order that the responsibilities of the committee and of the treasurer role are fulfilled. We anticipate that your role will in turn benefit from the guidance and support of the Chair of FARCOM. To be the successful candidate, you will have financial management experience (highly likely but not required to be a qualified accountant). You will bring financial expertise and experience to PLP’s activities. You will be able to confidently communicate financial issues to non-finance experts including other board and committee members You will be an independent, strategic and creative thinker with a strong commitment to collaborative working and PLP’s values.
