Are you based in the West or East Midlands and looking for an opportunity to create positive social change, meet new people and learn new things?
Music Therapy Works is looking for three-to-four committed, motivated people to join the Board as Trustees, enabling even more people to benefit from music therapy.
We are looking, in particular, for one or more of the following skills/experience to complement our existing Trustees:
- Fundraising
- Marketing and communications
- Digital
- ICT strategy management skills
- Safeguarding
- Project or operational management
- Performance management
- Strategic planning
We also want our Board to reflect the diverse community that MTW supports. We would particularly like to hear from you if you:
- have a background in social care and/or safeguarding
- have a background in music therapy or a related field
- reflect MTW’s beneficiaries. For example: are you a disabled person? Do you have mental health needs? Are you a parent or teacher of a young disabled person, or a young person with mental health needs? Are you part of an adoptive family or do you work with children in care? Are you a carer for a person with dementia?
Whether you’re an experienced trustee or wanting to take up your first position at board level, we really want to hear from you! It is not necessary for you to have previous experience as a Trustee - training will be provided. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, but you must be over 18 years old.

The Organisation:
Sir Henry Irving founded the Fund in 1882 with a number of other actors and stage managers. Over 140 years, Presidents have included Sir John Gielgud, Sir Lawrence Olivier and Dame Penelope Keith. We are thrilled that our Royal Patron has recently been confirmed as King Charles III.
The ABF is a membership charity with over 600 members who are from the acting or stage management fraternity. Members select up to 12 trustees from within the membership to govern and take responsibility for the ABF’s management and administration. Those trustees can appoint up to four additional non-member trustees on the basis of skills and experience they can bring to the charity.
The Board of Trustees delegates authority to a number of sub committees, including Grants & Services, Finance & Operations, and Marketing & Engagement. We ask trustees to join one of these committees.
For over 140 years, the Actors' Benevolent Fund has supported actors and stage managers experiencing hardship due to injury, illness or old age. To date this support has consisted of financial grants and benefits advice, as well as a listening ear. This support is delivered by a small staff team at Adam Street just off The Strand in London.
The charity world has changed significantly in recent years. Society rightly expects charities to deliver their purposes effectively for public benefit. The ABF has been going through a process of reform to maximise the help it delivers and to ensure it is the most effective and impactful steward of its resources.
The charity’s first ever CEO was appointed last summer, and a new Board of Trustees was elected and appointed early 2024 to take the charity forward into the future with a bold new ambition to increase impact.

The Role:
This is an exciting time to be joining the Board of Trustees of the Actors’ Benevolent Fund. The charity has been on a journey of transformation, with a new Board and strategy in place, and we are looking for two additional trustees to join us on this journey. These are incredibly challenging times for the industry, with an increased cost of living combined with a scarcity of funding for the Arts, resulting in fewer opportunities for actors, actresses and stage managers, and research evidencing mental health problems. There is a growing need to respond to the changes within our society and profession, and we are seeking individuals with the passion to join an inspirational team to make meaningful and sustainable change to our community.
We are currently looking for two non-member trustees, each with knowledge and experience in one of the following two areas:
• Investment management
• Strategic marketing and / or brand awareness

Vice Chair and Trustee

Neighbourhood Networks has been supporting vulnerable adults many with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and mental health issues for over 20 years. Through local networks of support, Neighbourhood Networks focus on enabling members to live an active, healthy life, safely within their own homes and in their local communities.
Their employed Community Living Workers, who reside in the same areas as their members, provide personalised support plans tailored to individual needs. The goal is to improve the quality of life for their members by promoting independence, enhancing essential life skills, creating friendships, and helping members become less reliant on paid support. Neighbourhood Networks have 30 networks across 9 local authorities, they also work in partnership with people, agencies, and local authorities from other areas in Scotland to develop and create new networks which respond to local community needs.
The Board of Neighbourhood Network has a mixture of Trustees from outside of the organisation and Member Trustees (people who have lived experience of the services). An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a Vice Chair and Trustee to join the Board.
The Role of Vice Chair:
As the Vice Chair, you’ll collaborate closely with the Chair to effectively lead the Management Board making sure responsibilities are met, including establishing strategies, policy objectives, overseeing financial proceedings and fostering a strong relationship between the Management Board and staff. Additionally, you’ll work establish a close relationship with the CEO to support them in delivering Neighbourhood Networks goals and achieving their mission.
We are seeking a strategic senior leader with either a third sector, health and social care or government/policy background. As an ambassador of Neighbourhood Networks, you’ll have exceptional communication skills and knowledge of the third sector and its challenges. Knowledge of finance and funding would be beneficial. Previous board experience is essential.
The Role of Trustee:
As a Trustee, you’ll play a crucial role in steering the organisation to make the best decisions about strategy, growth, and development whilst at the same time ensuring Neighbourhood Networks stays safe and secure.
We’re interested in candidates who come from a background in either health and social care or fundraising. Strong communication and committee skills are essential, alongside the ability to effectively contribute to discussions. Previous Board experience is not essential.
As a Trustee you would be required to prep for and attend a maximum of 10 meetings per year. This includes 5 Board Meetings a year and subcommittee work that may arise that fits the skill set and experience of the trustee, for example, the Finance and Risk Management Committee. The Vice chair role will require a larger commitment in order to act on behalf of the Board to oversee the work of the CEO and prepare ahead for Board Meetings in partnership with the Chair and CEO. This would be approximately an additional 5 meetings a year.

Charity Trustees
The Charities Act 1993 defined charity trustees as those responsible under the charity’s governing document for controlling the administration and management of the charity. This is the case regardless of the terminology used to describe the role. The trustee board at Oxfordshire Youth usually comprises up to twelve trustees, although there is no formal limit on the number of trustees, including the following roles:
● the Chair of the Board of Trustees
● the Deputy Chair and CEO Line-Manager
● the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Sub-Committee
● the Safeguarding Lead and Chair of the Safeguarding,Quality and Impact Sub-Committee the People and Development Lead and Staff Liaison Trustee
The Role of the Board
At its most fundamental the role of the trustee board is to receive assets from donors, safeguard them and apply them to the charitable purposes of Oxfordshire Youth. The trustee board must always act in the best interests of Oxfordshire Youth, exercising the same standard of duty of care that a prudent person would apply if looking after the affairs of someone for whom they have responsibility. Trustees are ultimately and legally responsible for everything Oxfordshire Youth does. Trustees fulfil this responsibility by agreeing the strategy, agreeing organisational policies and implementing appropriate monitoring and control mechanisms to ensure and evidence compliance. Trustees appoint the CEO and, on recommendation by the CEO, appoint the Senior Leadership Team to manage all operational matters and the operational team in line with the approved strategy, policies and control mechanisms.
Duties of a Trustee
The statutory duties of a trustee are:
● Ensure that Oxfordshire Youth complies with its Articles of Association, charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations
● Ensure that Oxfordshire Youth pursues its objects as defined in its Articles of Association
● Ensure Oxfordshire Youth applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects. For example, it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be
● Contribute actively to the board of trustees by giving firm strategic direction to Oxfordshire Youth, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
● Safeguard the good name and values of Oxfordshire Youth
● Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organization
● Ensure the financial stability of Oxfordshire Youth
● Protect and manage the property of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation’s funds
● Appoint the Chief Executive Officer and monitor performance
In addition to the statutory duties listed above, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, identifying key issues, asking difficult questions and providing advice and guidance on new initiatives. Trustees must ensure that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these.
Treasurer Role Purpose
To provide high level oversight of the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice.
Key Responsibilities
● Attend bi-monthly Trustee meetings; chair bi-monthly Finance. Audit and Risk (FAR) Sub-committee meetings and report to the Board on financial matters. The first point of contact on the Board for any matters relating to Finance.
● Work with the Head of Finance, CEO, Finance, Audit and Risk Committee members and other Trustees to ensure the financial viability of the organisation.
● Support fellow Trustees to be aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them.
● To have oversight of accounting policies, procedures, processes and record keeping including advising on best practice.
● Appraising the financial viability of plans, proposals and feasibility studies.
● Sign off annually on the organisation budget and annual accounts.
● Lead on appointing auditors
● Work with Finance Lead, EO, Finance, Audit and Risk Committee members and trustees to set the financial strategy for the organisation.
Time Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend an induction session at Oxfordshire Youth prior to their first board meeting. Trustees are expected to attend the six annual board meetings, five of which last approximately three hours (typically 6-9pm). One meeting is an annual strategic planning board away-day or residential held each year. Papers, proposals and reports are distributed one week in advance of meetings. The Treasurer will also Chair the FAR sub-committee sub-committee which means 6 times a year for 2 hours.
Trustee Role Boundaries
Trustees in a decision-making capacity:
● As a board of trustees
● As a sub-committee
● Chair - delegated authority by the board to make decisions between board meetings with quorum of three, where necessary
● CEO Line Manager - delegated authority by the board to make decisions between board meetings where necessary
Trustee roles outside of the above decision-making capacity:
Advisory role (i.e. offering advice in an area of expertise). In this capacity the Trustee is acting as Trustee but, as noted above, does not have decision-making capacity in their own right.
Volunteer role (i.e. participating in an operational working group). Here the Trustee is subject to the decision-making of the operational team-member who is in a position of authority. As a volunteer the Trustee is at liberty to withdraw.
Observer role (i.e. attending an OY workshop for young people or observing OY work). In this capacity they are acting as a Trustee but have no role beyond observing or information gathering for the purposes of strengthening their own understanding and / or board-level decision-making.
Champion role (i.e. spreading the message about the work of OY). In this capacity they are acting as a Trustee, helping to build the profile of the work of OY, with no decision making, but with the view of creating a positive image and sign-posting people to OY.
Who we are looking for
As a Treasurer, you will have:
● Knowledge and experience of current and fundraising and finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations.
● Knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management (as necessary).
● Good financial analysis skills.
● Experience of advising others on financial matters, and being prepared to challenge
Each trustee should have:
● A commitment to the mission of Oxfordshire Youth

Mental Health Resource is a well-established, independent charity based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Our aim is to improve mental wellbeing in our community by enabling people to feel supported and valued, providing opportunities for social connections and by raising awareness of mental health. We deliver high quality and effective services across West Kent providing safe spaces and person-centred mental health support.
We provide comprehensive services with both a focus on short term and long-term mental health support, enabling people to access our projects for as longs as they want or need support. Our beneficiaries have complex and enduring mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-harming, psychosis, schizophrenia and bi-polar and, on average, we work with over 900 adults and young people each year.
About the Trustee roles
You would be working with other trustees who have different skills, knowledge and experience. It's an interesting role in which you can help formulate ideas about how we as an organisation can best address the challenges and opportunities that exist in an increasingly complex and changing environment.
We would love to hear from you if you have a true interest in helping to improve the lives of those with mental health conditions in our community, and especially if you have skills or experience in working in a charity or in finance. No experience of being a trustee is necessary.
You would be expected to attend and participate in six Board meetings per year which are held via Teams/Zoom and last 2-3 hrs. The Board is also supported by two sub-committees: Finance and Risk and Marketing and Fundraising, which meet four times a year, and trustees are encouraged to also be a member of one of the sub-committees.

TREASURER / TRUSTEE
Age UK Gloucestershire’s vision is to make our county the best place in the UK in which to grow older.
We are seeking a new Treasurer to join our board of trustees /directors and help us achieve our vision.
We are a small, independent Charity based in Gloucestershire with the aims to challenge negative stereotypes of ageing, create positive age-friendly communities, help older people retain a sense of purpose, and offer help and support to older people and their families.
Overview of the role:
The Treasurer supports the Board with maintaining an overview of the charity’s financial affairs, as well as fulfilling the role of a Trustee/Board Director. The Treasurer assists the Chair and the CEO in ensuring that the board of trustees fulfils its duties and responsibilities for the proper financial governance of the charity; by ensuing effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are in place, reporting to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the Charity.
In addition to the above, the Treasurer will also have the responsibilities and qualities of all trustees.
This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. Our trustees service for a 3-year term of office with the potential for re-appointment for a further term to a maximum of 6 years.
What we are looking for
We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.
· A finance professional. A knowledge of charity finance is an advantage. Otherwise, an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience and an understanding of SMEs.
· A strategical thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity.
· Clear communicator with the ability to bring the financial information alive to non-finance specialists.
· Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with auditors.
· Commitment to striving for better for older people across Gloucestershire.
You’ll need to be able to commit to attending six board meetings a year, as well as the potential for some further working group. YHA is a social enterprise charity with a 94-year history of increasing access to travel and adventure. It serves almost a million beneficiaries every year — priding itself on the particular impact it has on young people. It is a big, friendly organisation with huge heart and great purpose.
ACT has been operating for over 50 years across Suffolk and the surrounding areas. Originally providing supported housing for offenders upon their release from prison, our services have expanded to help an increasing number of vulnerable people within our community.
Initially, we provided supported housing and helped people back into education and employment. Over time, we have expanded our services to help vulnerable people in the community in many different ways. We now have over 120 staff and more than 275 volunteers who are an essential part of our workforce as many of our services could not run without our volunteers. We operate across Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex and are governed by an amazing board of Trustees who also voluntarily give their time.
Essentially, our services fall into four main categories:
- Helping people to keep a roof over their heads
- Helping people to stay safe
- Helping people to be heard
- Helping people with their health and wellbeing
Treasurer/Finance Trustee
We are looking for a new Board member to act as Treasurer/Finance Trustee to maintain effective governance of the organisation’s financial affairs ensuring its financial viability and to help develop and oversee our current strategic plan as we navigate a challenging external environment. Whilst this role is a voluntary position, you’ll have the satisfaction of joining a dynamic organisation, passionate about making a lasting difference to lives and communities. We want someone who shares our vision and values.

- Audit and/or Accountancy experience
- A solid understanding of Charity Accounting practices

Knowledge and experience
- Governance experience or knowledge of good governance practice.
- A strong track record in the finance sector, with empathy for our core client group.
- Track record in, or understanding of, differentiation between strategic governance and operational.

GSTTKPA is going through an exciting period of change. As a result, we are seeking to recruit a new Chair to support our ambitious and innovative change programme, so we can continue to achieve the aims and objectives of the charity.
The Chair role provides leadership to the organisation and the Trustee board by ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of the organisation’s charitable purposes in order to ensure that GSTTKPA moves forward and continues to benefit kidney patients in the future.
The Chair will also need to set the strategy for the charity for the next few years which is vital for ensuring that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, the new post holder must understand that all the Trustees have a collective responsibility. This means that the Chair and the other Trustees must always act as a group and not as individuals.

We are looking for a new Company Board Director to help guide Climate Emergency UK over the course of the next 2 years.
Climate Emergency UK is at a exciting time, since starting just over 4 years ago we have have successfully launched the first ever complete UK assessment of coucil climate action, with the Council Climate Action Scorecards, and are preparing for the second edition. We are now delivering our first 3 year strategy, with focusses on how we can advocate at a national level for further and faster council climate action, sustain ourselves as an organisation and keep up our crucial local work with councils and residents via the Scorecards, training and other projects.
As a young organisation, we need support from our Board to further the sustainability of the organisation.
We are particularly looking for Directors with either/or any of the following experience:
- Experience of local government, either as a councillor, officer or other
- HR experience within a new and small organisation, in particular in relation to creating HR policies and practices
- Landing national media coverage for projects and campaigns and previous work with national and regional news outlets
- Financial management of a small organisation, preferably a CIC, including book-keeping
