Job description

School of Sexuality Education is a charity looking to appoint up to two new Trustees who share our values and mission. We have grown rapidly over the past nine years and now employ a small team that delivers relationships and sex education programmes on a national scale.

We provide inclusive relationships and sex education (RSE) programmes to young people across England, Scotland and Wales. Our programmes cover consent, sexual violence prevention, sexual health, porn, identity, and positive relationships.

We are looking for candidates who can help consolidate our existing operations as well as scaling further. We are interested in candidates from a range of backgrounds, including but not limited to bid writing, fundraising, and working in large charities.

Personal skills and qualities

  • Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as  trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
  • A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Enthusiasm for our vision and mission.
  • Willingness to lead according to our values.
  • Commitment to young people and relationships and sex education.

Our values are important to us and we expect our team including Trustees to model our approach of inclusivity and passion for social justice. As a charity working with young people all team members must understand the importance of safeguarding children.

We looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensuring that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction, and is focused on achieving these.
  • Being responsible for the performance of the charity and for its ‘corporate’ behaviour.
  • Ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Acting as guardian of the charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible, taking all due care over their security, deployment and proper application.
  • Ensuring that the charity’s governance and risk management are of the highest possible standard.
  • Working in partnership with other trustees, the CEO, and other senior staff.

Trustees may be asked to act as a member of a Board Sub-committee or advisory group. They may also be invited to attend School of Sexuality Education events from time to time.

To apply, please complete an application form via our website.
