Role Summary

We are seeking a creative and motivated UX Designer to collaborate closely with our UX  Design Lead and Digital team in building and enhancing the Roots app, website, as well as the instructor, student, and partner portals. Key tasks

• Support the UX Design Lead to create intuitive and user-centred designs for the Roots app and portals - Student and Instructor.

• Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that align with user needs and project goals.

• Conduct user research/workshops to gather insights and identify user needs, pain points, and behaviours.

• Create user personas, journey maps, and other research artefacts to guide design decisions.

• Test and validate design concepts through user testing and feedback sessions.

• Work closely with the Digital team and our developers to ensure seamless implementation of designs.

• Ensure all design work meets brand guidelines and project objectives.

Long Covid SOS is a registered charity dedicated to throwing a lifeline to people living with the impact of Long Covid by pushing for greater recognition and awareness, advocating for targeted research and providing support and resources. With a passionate team of volunteers and Trustees, we use our voice to promote recognition and understanding of the experiences of people with Long Covid and its devastating effects on their lives. Role overview:

As the Chair of the Board of Trustees, you will provide pivotal strategic and inspirational leadership and direction to the Board, ensuring that Long Covid SOS is effectively governed, and remains focused on its mission and strategic goals. This is a unique voluntary opportunity for an accomplished leader with strong governance experience to make a significant impact for those with Long Covid. You will act as an ambassador for the charity, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, partners and the wider community. The role is a remote position and will require a commitment of 2-4 days per month. 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership: - 

• Collaborate closely with the CEO to support the delivery of Long Covid SOS’s strategic objectives.

• Collaborate with fellow Trustees to establish strategic goals and objectives and devise an execution plan to achieve these goals.

Unwaste.io is a UK based social enterprise using data to create a circular economy for plastic. Our cloud platform, Wastebase, collects data about single-use plastic waste found in the environment. We encourage individuals, communities and NGOs to use our free Wastebase app to collect evidence about the plastic waste they find in their area. We want producers to take responsibility for where their waste ends up. Our data can help them do that.

We’re looking for a UK-based volunteer who can help connect with community organisations in the UK and encourage more people to use Wastebase to support their activities. If you like being out and about, talking to people who want to improve their community and you are interested in improving the environment, this might be the role for you.

Regular tasks

We’ll support you to understand our aims and audience and encourage you to bring your own ideas and creativity to what we do. Regular tasks will involve:

• identifying and engaging with community organisations involved in local clean ups, waste or litter campaigning or plastic free advocacy through Facebook, instagram and TikTok, supported by our Social Media Manager

• joining local clean ups in person to demonstrate the Wastebase app and get people excited about using it

• joining meetings remotely to give demos or presentations about Wastebase, supported by our comms lead

• distributing posters for community groups to use in their local displays

• willingness and confidence to get out and talk to local groups in person

• access to own car or ability to travel independently with the local area (up to a day trip - we don’t expect you to make extended or overnight trips)

• confidence in public speaking (remote or in person) and engaging people on a personal level

• experience in using social media to connect with people or organisations

Expenses

Unwaste.io will reimburse reasonable travel expenses (including fuel). This could include train travel to meet a community group, for example, plus lunch if out for a whole day. These must be agreed in advance.

Working schedule

We expect our volunteers to join regular weekly check ins - these are usually about 30 mins at an agreed time. Outside of this, we expect you to manage your own time and complete tasks in a way that suits both your schedule and the requirements of the role. This is likely to include some time at the weekends (to join clean ups) or in the evenings.

We are always available to answer questions and offer support and encourage all of our team to ask for help whenever they need it. If you are joining clean ups and events, we will support you to do this safely. 

Training and support

We’ll provide you with appropriate training on our app and data management platform, as well as the collaboration tools we use. We’ll also support you to develop your knowledge of plastics and the circular economy, and to build your skills around community engagement (writing, presentation, identifying contacts for example). You'll be supported by our Partnerships and Comms lead and will work alongside our Social Media Manager and Data Volunteer.

A bit about this role

As a trap, neuter and return (TNR) lead volunteer you will make a vital contribution to maintaining a healthy population of feral and community cats and will help alleviate cat welfare and community problems caused by uncontrolled cat populations. You will lead a team of TNR volunteers in your local area, who in turn will help reduce the number of unwanted cats.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Supporting and managing a team of TNR volunteers
• Promoting and encouraging appropriate training for TNR volunteers
• Delegating activities to TNR volunteers
• Supporting TNR volunteers to comply with Cats Protection policies and guidelines

Join our amazing volunteer team to make a real difference to people living with sight loss. You’ll be supporting people to come together to explore sport and physical activity in a group setting. Group members will benefit from each other’s company, knowledge, and encouragement, leading to reduced isolation, an increase in participation of sports and physical activity and new networks of support and friendship. You can support with either local and regional telephone groups or community based face-to-face groups. What you’ll be doing 1. Meeting and greeting group members on arrival or joining virtually. 2. Creating a warm and welcoming environment. 3. Planning and delivering a programme of sports themed activities. 4. Assisting with the groups sport or physical activities (if appropriate). Chair of the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee

About the role

We are looking for a Chair of the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee (“FRAC”) who is passionate about mental health service provision and public protection, to join the Board of Trustees. You will become a charity trustee (company director) and ensure that the public interest and charitable objectives run through all that we do.

This is a particularly exciting time to join the organisation as we will be launching our three-year strategy “psychotherapy in a changing world” in the Autumn of 2024. We want to work with you to craft an achievable delivery plan to sit alongside this strategy, which will be accompanied by a medium-term financial plan.

Leading the Board’s oversight of charitable funds, you will be pivotal in ensuring the organisation demonstrates excellent stewardship of resources and is financially sustainable for the future. Your background in financial leadership will be an ideal experience to chair the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee and provide support to our finance team.

This is a role for an individual who is open to new ideas and embraces innovation, who is motivational, pragmatic, and demonstrates sound commercial and business acumen.
