We are looking for editors, proofreaders, and typists to support young people's stories!

You do not have to be a published writer, just have lots of enthusiasm for creative writing and young people. Super Power Agency volunteers come from every walk of life. Some want to give back to their local community, others want to gain experience in publishing and some just want to help out!

All of the work our young writers do is published into a book of some form.

If you’d like to be involved but find it difficult during typical school hours, then the Extraordinary League of Editors, Proofreaders, Helpers And Nifty Typists (E.L.E.P.H.A.N.T.) might be the editing collective for you! This is back-end remote volunteering, and is integral to publishing the young writers’ work.

The writing is split up into batches, each taking approximately one hour, and you are welcome to do as many or as few as your schedule allows!

About Super Power Agency

Founded in 2016, The Super Power Agency aims to improve the lives and literacy rates of some of Edinburgh's most under-resourced young people. Through a range of writing workshops, interdisciplinary creative programmes and the help of community volunteers, we aim to empower children and young people (8-18 years) through literacy. The Safe Space is a local hub for anyone who feels they are nearing crisis point. We are here to listen to what you need and work with you to help. This might be strategies to help you cope in the moment, a range of activities we provide free of charge, resources to take away or connecting you with practical local services. We offer face to face, telephone and video-conference support. As a part of this, we are looking for volunteers to offer peer led support to individuals who may access our service. This includes a variety of tasks, such as devising and facilitating peer led workshops with clients, supporting with 1:1 sessions, and completing administrative tasks.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has lived experience of mental health/social crisis
• Preferably have had experience working with people who experience poor mental health
• Are comfortable with co-producing and facilitating peer led workshops
• Might be willing to take over running the workshops by themselves over time
• Are willing to actively participate with clients 1:1 and in group settings
• Are able to take on any ad hoc admin/support responsibilities within the Safe Space Team

Detailed description

Having access to a secure garden or outdoor area can be crucial for providing opportunities to socialise and relax, which can be invaluable for the mental well-being of our residents.

The gardening and growing volunteer will support our accommodation sites in maintaining their outdoor spaces, including:

·Weeding

·Sweeping

·Pruning

·Clearing leaves and large twigs

·Watering plants

·Planting bulbs and tidying up flower beds

We would love for this to be an opportunity to involve our residents and potentially lead a gardening activity with them, equipping them with knowledge and skills to maintain their own green spaces in the future. 

You will need:

• Enjoy working outside in all weathers.
• An interest/basic knowledge of gardening
• Role requires some degree of physical work and lifting/manual handling
• To work under your own initiative.
• Good communication skills

Opportunity summary
The Branch is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to establish a fundraising strategy for the branch. It is a great opportunity to become directly involved in animal welfare work.

Location
Mostly remote working, but we are looking for someone local to our branch cover area (Macclesfield, South East Cheshire and Buxton) to  potentially attend branch events or meetings.

Key activities
In conjunction with the committee, the Volunteer coordinator will produce, control and monitor a fundraising plan and budget dedicated to raising funds for the branch.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Secretary

• To act as principal communications trustee managing and maintaining the administrative affairs of the branch.
• To act as the main contact point for all branch communications with the national Society, the  branch committee and the branch membership.
• Order and distribute RSPCA stationary, leaflets, posters and other fundraising and promotional material.
• Arrange branch meetings, usually 11 per year, there is no meeting in December, meetings generally last about 2 hours and are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. ⅔ of meetings are held virtually.
•  Ensure all branch committee decisions are implemented and actions completed.
• Arrange the branch AGM Including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations and agenda in line with the strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.
• Arrange the timely dissemination of the contents of all correspondence and literature received by the branch, ensuring availability to all committee members, and reply to all  branch correspondence where necessary.
• Liaise with the Branch Support Specialist and group chief inspector and notify them of all  branch meetings.
• Monitor the secretary's email address, issue the newsletters, issue any one off appeals.

Training is available.

Some times of the year are much busier than others. For example April when the Annual  Report needs to be done, May when all the calling notices for the AGM need to be sent out and in June when everything needs to be prepared ready for the AGM.

Applicants will need to be able to prioritise/organise a workload, being tactful but clear, have basic computer skills, understanding confidentiality and working independently whilst keeping everyone informed and accept the ethos of the RSPCA. Training is available.

We are looking for qualified and experienced massage therapists to provide complementary therapies for people with a diagnosis of cancer, their carers and bereaved.  Therapies offered are recognised as having positive benefits and are given with the aim of relieving stress related symptoms and encourage relaxation

 Time commitment: 3 hours, weekly or fortnightly.

Main Duties

· Clients with a cancer diagnosis, carers or the bereaved are offered four treatments of one hour each. 

· Each therapy is adapted to the needs of the individual, depending on the client’s condition. Treatments are also carried out in chairs if needed, adjusting positioning and techniques used. 

Volunteer Specification

The Mulberry Centre is committed to providing the highest quality of care and therapists are expected to:

- Have studied and qualified at a recognised college/school (ITEC equivalent). 

-Be a member of their professional body.

- Have personal, professional indemnity insurance.

- Consider, or be undertaking, further professional development. 

- Have been qualified in their therapy and actively practising for at least one year. If practising for less than one year we can offer a mentoring programme.

- Must not have had personal experience of cancer (either themselves or a close family member) or have been bereaved within the preceding two years.

- All therapists must have or be eligible for registration with CNHC.

This is a volunteer role in a Free Books Shop. The books have all been saved from landfill and pulping and instead are offered for free to shop customers. Destroying books is harmful to the environment so why not collect them together and give them a new lease of life? This shop is being coordinated by the charity Global Educational Trust (GET). As a volunteer in the shop your role would include:

- creating a warm and welcoming shop atmosphere 
- keeping the shop clean and tidy
- arranging the books, restocking the shelves
- explaining the free books concept to customers
- explain the aims of the GET charity 
- receive book donations from customers 
- assist customers in located particular types of books
