About us

Sculpt is a UK-based charity providing research, training and work-experience opportunities that empower young people to shape their own futures and those of their communities. As the role of young people in the organisation is crucial, we have an independent Youth Advisory Board (YAB) that evaluates and steers our work. The YAB consists of young people from different backgrounds and experiences who are aware of the problems facing young people today and want to do something positive about them.

About the Youth Advisory Board

Sculpt’s YAB is a group of passionate young people with a keen interest in youth issues who bring their insight and voice to the issues we work on. Their role is to constantly review, monitor, and quality control our work in order to ensure it remains youth–led and effective. 

Members of the YAB support us by:

• Providing a voice, ideas and insight to help ensure our work is relevant to the needs of young people

• Working together to advise and provide insights on social issues from a variety of perspectives

• Applying their life experiences in the development of socially positive causes

• Problem-solving and evaluating existing decision-making to refine ideas and initiatives

• Helping us raise awareness of our work among other young people

Current YAB team: 

We currently have six YAB members. Within this, we have a Chair of the YAB, Vice chair of the YAB, and 4 general members. 

What would I do? 

The YAB meets monthly to discuss Sculpt’s current work and projects, as well as hear about the different opportunities available to Advisory Board members. An agenda is prepared and shared in advance. Meetings are usually held online but we sometimes meet in person. 

As a member of the YAB, you will gain first-hand experience of being part of a youth-led organisation. From providing input into and evaluating our programmes, to designing new campaign and social media ideas, you will have the opportunity to develop your written and communication skills and shape what we do to serve young people. All training offered by Sculpt is open and free to Advisory Board members. Please note that being a YAB member is a volunteer role. 

Travel expenses for in-person meetings are reimbursed, and we make adjustments where needed to remove barriers to participation. This can include providing support/ assistance for online participation or covering the costs of a personal assistant/carer or interpreter/translator if YAB members use one, for example. 

About the open roles

We are currently hiring for YAB General Members. Please read the role description below to determine if it will fit your interests and experiences. However, please do not be discouraged from applying if you have limited prior work experience or knowledge in these areas. We are most interested in finding candidates who are passionate about our work and are eager to learn.

YAB General Member

As a YAB General Member, you will ensure that Sculpt pursues its organisational objectives, provide strategic direction to the organisation’s work, and attend meetings and prepare for them in advance if needed. There will be opportunities to get involved in various areas of our work across fundraising, programme design and evaluation, policies, communications, and social media. 

The Sculpt team will help facilitate the collaboration with the YAB and bring you opportunities to contribute to. At the same time, we are always open to hear your thoughts and advice on how we can continue being effective and responsive. You will be well-supported by us, other YAB members, and the YAB Chair.

In-Deep Community Task Force is a grassroots charity working with isolated older people and children with Special Education Needs (SEND) and their families in Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth and surrounding areas.

We aim to promote friendship and understanding in the community, and tackle loneliness and isolation by bringing people together to take part in meaningful activities. We offer a range of services and support for those in need.

Underfall Yard Trust Seeks Honorary Treasurer

The role requires an estimated time commitment of 4-6 hours per month. Unremunerated with expenses reimbursed

Underfall Yard Trust was founded in the 1990s as a small team restored Underfall Yard’s slipway and the surrounding buildings. The Trust is now responsible for the preservation of the whole site, including Grade II and II* listed buildings of historical and architectural significance. The site includes a visitor centre to educate the public on the history of Underfall Yard within Bristol’s floating harbour, and workshop buildings that are let out to independent maritime businesses.

In May 2023, Underfall Yard was the victim of an arson attack. Thankfully, nobody was injured, but the Big Shed, workshops, and six boats were destroyed, devastating the businesses that call the Yard home and the wider Underfall community. The Trust is in the process of restoring the historic structures and rebuilding the workshops to again provide spaces for Bristol’s maritime businesses. They’re seeking an Honorary Treasurer to support this recovery project, alongside other initiatives.

As the Honorary Treasurer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and stability of Underfall Yard Trust. Working closely with the Director and team of Trustees, you’ll help deliver the Trust’s strategic goals and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies. Your responsibilities will include supporting the fundraising committee with income-generation strategies and assisting with financial reporting for grant applications. You will contribute towards the preservation of this historic boatyard by identifying potential risks and developing a long-term financial plan.

Underfall Yard Trust hopes to hear from enthusiastic individuals with a strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting and financial reporting. The successful candidate will have proven experience managing Charity finances and a solid grasp of statutory and regulatory compliance within the nonprofit sector.

For over 30 years, Heart of BS13 has been working to address health inequalities in Hartcliffe and Withywood in South Bristol, which ranks among the 10% most deprived communities in the UK. We are breaking the cycle of transgenerational poverty our community faces by joining the dots between employment, health, and climate action, taking important steps to reduce poverty, improve health, create training and employment opportunities in the green economy, and empower our residents to have a voice in addressing the climate crisis.

We're looking for a Local Governor to be part of a school trust that is focused on providing children with the best possible education through collaborative working.

Position: Local Governor

About the role:

Local Governors sit within the Trust’s overall governance structure.  The Department for Education sets out that in an academy trust, the purpose of governance is to provide:

Local Governing Boards work closely with headteachers and senior leaders. Headteachers are responsible for day-to-day management whereas the role of the governing body is strategic. As such, local governors are responsible for:

· Determining the mission, values, and long-term ambitious vision for the school (in keeping with the Trust’s overall objectives)

· Approving key local policies

· Working with Trust Central Team to ensure there is an accurate evaluation of the school’s performance and appropriate plans for improvement are in place and being monitored

The Organisation

Portsmouth Students’ Union Trading Company Ltd (PSUT) is the social enterprise business arm for the University of Portsmouth Students’ Union (UPSU), and seeks to enhance the experience of every Portsmouth student in collaboration with UPSU, University of Portsmouth (UoP) and Community Partnerships whilst contributing financially to the wider organisation. Overview of the role

This role is all about people, and one of the incredible benefits of volunteering in any role in Scouts, but even more so as County Lead Volunteer, is the teams of people you get to work with. You will inherit an incredible team of dedicated people leading Scouting in Norfolk, from District Lead Volunteers who manage Scouting on a local level, to the people delivering high quality training for our Scout Leaders. As County Lead Volunteer you get to inspire, motivate, shape and develop this team, building friendships and establishing a sense of camaraderie focused around our mission for young people.

As a County Lead Volunteer you will be able to really develop and hone your leadership skills by managing teams of remote volunteers across the breadth of Norfolk. Leading and managing volunteers provides so much more opportunity and experiences than with employees, what you can gain by doing this really well can be a great asset for your professional life as well as in Scouts. The issues and challenges that you find ways to tackle will stretch you as an individual and as a leader and you’ll find yourself discovering new things that you are capable of achieving.

If you get a kick out of seeing things happen, achieving success and making a positive impact to a wide audience then the County Lead Volunteer role definitely provides all of that. In this role you will get to see the difference that Scouts makes to so many young people’s lives across a large area, helping them develop skills for life, fostering friendships and providing so many incredible and unforgettable experiences.

The Merchant’s House Gift Shop, located on Marlborough High Street within a beautifully preserved 17th century historic house and museum, is looking for a new shop director to help lead our small, dedicated team in this well-loved gift shop  – famed for its beautiful Christmas Room.

The Shop was established 30 years ago and is run by a subsidiary trading company (The Merchant’s House Trading Ltd) - wholly owned by The Merchant’s House Trust. The shop is a key revenue generator for the Trust’s activities, donating its profits back to the trust. It has a small number of paid staff (including the Shop Manager) as well as volunteer workers.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a volunteer Shop Director to join the small board of company directors for The Merchant’s House Trading Ltd. We are looking for an individual with relevant retail experience who can help us ensure the shop is well managed, commercially successful and supports the visitor experience in this beautiful, unique and culturally significant building. This is an unpaid position.

The Merchant’s House is embarking on an exciting new phase as we embed our new strategic plan, having opened for full visitor access for the first time in 2024. As we embark on a new phase, we need to breath fresh life into our shop and ensure it is both commercially viable and supports the overall visitor experience to the historic house.

The role

· To provide leadership and operational governance of the shop, setting objectives and targets and ensuring successful commercial performance.

· To line manage the Shop Manager and Assistant Manager.

· To work closely with the Trust to ensure that the shop is aligned to overall strategy, supporting the goals of the trust and enhancing the visitor experience to the House.

About this role 

You will be vital to the work of your local Scope shop, generating income and raising awareness of our work in your local community. You will receive all training and support you need to get involved and enjoy your time volunteering. 

Your role may include: 

• sorting and organising goods for sale
• helping to display stock and window dressing
• tidying and cleaning the shop
• welcoming and supporting customers
• using the till and taking payments
• steaming clothes so they look better for customers
• pricing and tagging new donations

When and where 

You will be in our Scope Amersham shop at 17 Sycamore Road, Amersham, Buckinghamshire, HP6 5EQ. We are flexible on the times you would like to volunteer. We’d love your help for as little as 1 hour a week, but if you can give more time that would help us even more.

Who we’re looking for 

We welcome anyone who is friendly and passionate about disability equality! 

Some volunteers want to learn more about charities or about retail. Others want to make a difference to the lives of disabled people. Other volunteers are interested in our training and development opportunities. Some people join us to meet new people and make friends. Sometimes people want to help a charity shop they like shopping in, while also getting a discount in the shop!
