Job description

Are you passionate about digital media?

As a Digital Workshop Volunteer, you’ll use your skills to help individuals with learning disabilities develop digital literacy, grow in confidence, and create meaningful content.

From planning to filming, editing, and sharing online, you will support our citizens in bringing their voices and stories to life. All while building their independence and helping them navigate the digital world.

Examples of projects we’ve created include:

  • Disability hate crime video – Working with West Midlands Police, the group helped create a video about what disability hate crime is and how to report it.
  • Disability action plan – The group reviewed the government’s disability action plan and shared their thoughts in a presentation delivered to the board of trustees.
  • Online safety training – We worked together to become more aware of how to stay safe online.

What would I be doing?

As a Digital Workshop Volunteer, you will:

  • Work with a group of citizens, each with their own abilities, to support their digital journey
  • Teach and guide citizens in planning content, filming, editing, uploading to social media, and using Microsoft and Google’s suite of tools (Drive, Docs, and Slides)
  • Support group activities and provide 1-to-1 assistance to individuals who need extra guidance
  • Help make digital tools accessible and meaningful to our citizens, enabling them to express themselves and engage with the online world in a safe, empowering way

What do I need?

You don’t need to be an expert—but you do need:

  • A good understanding of digital platforms, social media, and Google tools (Drive, Docs, Slides)
  • A passion for digital creativity and a desire to teach others
  • A patient, supportive, and encouraging attitude, willing to work at the pace of those you’re helping
  • A commitment to working with individuals who may have a range of abilities, interests, and learning styles
  • An enhanced DBS check and references will be required

When and where do you need me?

  • Monday afternoons 13:00 – 14:30
  • Weoley Castle Community Centre, Bottetourt Road, Weoley Castle, B29 5TE

What’s in it for me?

As a Digital Workshop Volunteer, you’ll gain:

  • The opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life by helping them gain valuable digital skills and confidence
  • Hands-on digital media experience, from content creation to social media strategies
  • The chance to teach what you love while learning new skills
  • The fulfillment of working with an inspiring group of people who are eager to learn from you
  • A diverse and welcoming volunteer community, where you’ll meet new people and build connections
  • Training and development opportunities to support your role
  • Agreed out-of-pocket expenses
  • A rewarding sense of achievement and appreciation from those you help
  • Boosted career opportunities by adding this impactful volunteer experience to your CV
