ABOUT SPRINGBOARD
Springboard Youth Academy supports refugee and asylum-seeking young people who have recently arrived in the UK to help them succeed in the classroom and beyond. By combining participatory learning, life skills and holistic support into action-packed weekend, half-term and summer programming, we work to bridge the gap in support for young people left behind by the mainstream school system.
As educators and youth workers with years of experience working to offset the challenges these young people face, we launched a programme that helps young people develop their English language and self-advocacy skills whilst addressing their social and wellbeing needs, preparing them for mainstream education and helping them rebuild their lives in the UK.
We do this by providing interactive and engaging programming that combines English learning, life skills and practical and emotional strategies for young people on their journey to independence and adulthood.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
As Springboard’s Youth Academy’s activities and ambitions continue to grow, we are seeking new members to join our existing Board of Trustees.
We’re looking for people who share our love of high quality and participatory education, as well as our commitment to supporting and platforming displaced young people. We're keen to meet people who can bring skills, knowledge and both professional and lived experience that will help us continue to refine our delivery and grow.
We are committed to nurturing a board that is representative, diverse and inclusive. We are interested to hear from individuals with experience in governance, as well as those new to Trustee positions. We are particularly encouraging applications from those with personal experience of forced migration and Leaving Care.
Responsibilities of Trustees include:
- Attending meetings and carrying out relevant actions
- Advising the delivery team on the aspects of their work that align with the Trustee's expertise
- Supporting the Board with ensuring the organisation is carrying out its mission
- Participating in the organisation's annual Away Day
Qualities:
- Strategic thinking
- Excellent communication skills
- Confidence and a willingness to speak their mind and ask challenging questions
- Teamwork and collaboration skills
- Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality
- Understanding of the wider political landcape, abolitionist perspectives and commitment to challenging the hostile environment
- Independent judgment
- Advocacy and networking skills to help us build new relationships
- Willingness to offer expertise, skills and personal insight to support us
- Passion for championing work that centres newly arrived young people
TIME COMMITMENT
In line with all charities, Trustees are unpaid volunteers. Trustees must be able to commit to attending quarterly Board meetings and making time to read paperwork in advance of Board meetings. As a small charity, our resources are limited and Trustees are also asked to actively contribute their skills in relevant areas. As a guideline, Trustees must be prepared to offer a minimum of two hours per month to the charity.
As a Trustee, you will be required to attend quarterly meetings. We also require new Trustees to spend one day on site during one of our programmes to get a feel for the work, as well as undertake Trustee and Safeguarding training, within the first three months of starting the role. Board meetings are currently held virtually, and, where possible, are arranged at least two months ahead. On occasion, Trustees will be required to respond by email or phone in relation to issues that arise outside of Board meetings. Travel costs will be covered if they are a barrier.
Trustee with Fundraising Experience
About NWR
NWR (National Women’s Register) is a membership charity aiming to stop social isolation in women. It was founded in 1960 by Maureen Nicol in response to a letter in the Guardian bemoaning how women became isolated when they gave up their careers to raise their children. Maureen set up NWR as an alternative to WI, with the aim of meetings focusing on non-domestic, stimulating topics. 60 years later NWR is still connecting women, albeit an older generation of +55 years, with 315 local groups and a thriving online community.
Trustee Role
Our current Board of Trustees are all members of NWR, and we are seeking a voluntary, external Trustee to bring a different dimension to the Board.
We are looking for someone experienced in working in the charity sector, in particular a membership organisation, and who is committed to our objectives. In addition, our ideal Trustee is someone with successful skills and experience of working in a fundraising role, who could advise us on accessing and applying for grants.
The board holds quarterly Trustee meetings that last approx. 3-4 hours. These are usually on Zoom, but we try to meet face-to-face once a year. Additionally, our Head of Operations & Development is seeking some ad hoc fundraising and bid writing mentorship.
Mencap New Forest is seeking a Chair of Trustees to lead our Board, drive our vision, and champion people with learning disabilities. This is your chance to make a lasting impact on our community.
What will you be doing?
Role Summary
Our Board of Trustees work to improve the lives of people with a learning disability, exercising good governance and following all necessary policies and procedures.
The Chair of Trustees will:
- Provide leadership and direction to the board of Trustees and enable the Board to fulfill their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation.
- Ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document, charity law, company law and other relevant legislation/regulations.
- Work in partnership with the chief executive, senior staff members and support the employees, helping them achieve the aims of the organisation; and to optimise the relationship between the Board of Trustees and the staff.
- Facilitate the Board of Trustees in stimulating well-rounded and carefully considered strategic decision-making.
What are we looking for?

By shaping our strategy and ensuring strong governance, you will enable us to reach more people with learning disabilities, empower their families, and build a more inclusive community.
Time commitment
Trustee appointments will initially be for a term of 3 years which may be extended to a second term, or more. The Board of Trustees currently meets monthly in New Milton. We aim to meet for 2 hours, although recent increased activity has tended to extend the time to 3 hours. *The Board recognizes that it would be better to move to a bi-monthly or quarterly schedule, and would like to do so in future. Trustee
Role description
St Albans & District Foodbank is looking for a Trustee. We currently have seven active Trustees and are looking for enthusiastic and talented people to join our Board.
The Foodbank serves the local community providing emergency food for those facing crisis. In the last 12 months we provided over 14,000 food parcels. We distribute food via ten weekly distribution centres that are run around the district by our committed volunteers. We currently have 7 part-time staff and over 130 active volunteers. We are more than a Foodbank as we offer wellbeing, signposting and advocacy services, both directly and in conjunction with other agencies.
Trustee meetings are held 6 times per year, typically on the third Tuesday of alternate months between 4.00 and 6.30pm. Trustees are expected to undertake additional work for the charity between meetings, subject to their availability and skill set, for example representing the Charity at local events or with partnership organisations.
The Trustee role is voluntary and unremunerated, though reasonable expenses can be reimbursed.
Being a Trustee
The challenge of being a Trustee requires, amongst other things:
-
ability to understand management information;
-
the ability to share and embrace knowledge and specialisms and
-
an understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship;
-
strong communication skills and an ability to contribute effectively at meetings and
-
a strong commitment to the objectives of the Foodbank.
Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board. They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment with the Foodbank’s values and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance and ensuring that strong relationships are maintained between the Trustees and the Management and Volunteer Team.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for someone who wants to help their local community and work towards the eradication of food poverty whilst supporting the Foodbank to provide emergency food to those who find themselves in crisis.
We are committed to building a diverse Board of Trustees and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those with lived experience or professional or other knowledge of food poverty.
We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Could you join our Trustees to help guide our work?
Our charity’s incredible volunteers help with our work across our four rescue and rehoming centres, at our Head Office in Norfolk, out at events, and make up our Council of Trustees.
This elected group of professionals is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of our charity and, to do this effectively, our Council includes people with diverse areas of expertise, interests and backgrounds. In return for their time and knowledge, Trustees enjoy the opportunity to use and build their skills, attend a range of special events, become part of an outstanding network, and influence the direction of our charity.
We currently have a vacancy on the Council of Trustees for a senior lawyer with commercial/chancery experience and, while equine experience would be a bonus, you only need an empathy with our aims and an interest in helping to guide our work. We take pride in our values of being realistic in our approach, compassionate in our attitudes, behaviour, and decision-making, and forward-thinking in anticipating challenge and change. The successful person will be expected to share these values.
We embrace a diversity of perspectives to inform our day-to-day work, something which we would also like to see reflected in membership of our Council. We encourage expressions of interest from currently under-represented groups, including people from a broad age range, LGBTQ+, ethnically-diverse communities and disabled people.

The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (JRCT) is seeking several new Trustees to join our board and help guide the future of our work.
JRCT is an independent funder committed to social justice, human rights, and environmental sustainability. Inspired by our founder Joseph Rowntree’s conviction that true progress requires solving root causes, not merely treating symptoms, for 120 years we’ve supported people and organisations tackling the root causes of conflict and injustice. Our mission seems ever more relevant in an increasingly complex and unequal world. In 2024, we awarded £13.8 million in grants and we currently fund 340 people and organisations, from well-known charities to grassroots groups.
As a Trustee, you’ll provide oversight, support, and challenge to ensure JRCT remains a bold and effective funder. We want to hear from people who bring diverse experiences and perspectives, particularly those with expertise in governance, finance, investments, change management and grant-making. We are seeking both Quakers and non-Quaker trustees, of all faiths and none. Above all, we seek individuals who share our commitment to inclusion, transformative change, and the Quaker values of equality and the worth of every individual, nonviolence, honesty and integrity.
This voluntary role covers reasonable expenses and we have a generous loss of earnings policy. Trustees serve for an initial five-year term. If you believe in the power of philanthropy to drive meaningful drive change, we’d love to hear from you.
Deadline for applications: 11:59 Tuesday 22nd April 2025.
