Music Theatre Wales is looking for new Trustees including our first Young Trustee
We are inviting applications for Trustees and Young Trustees (aged 18 to 25).

What are we looking for in our Trustees?
We want Trustees to bring commitment and enthusiasm for the work MTW is doing to re-imagine opera. We want Trustees who care about the things we care about - ensuring that equality, diversity and inclusion lie at the heart of all our work, driving the creative development we believe opera needs, working with artists new to opera, creating opera in different and innovative shapes and forms and learning from the people we work with. We want Trustees who are pro-active and happy to stand up for our vision, and who will also be our critical friend.

Board Leads
We have recently established a number of Board Leads, where a Trustee takes responsibility for a specific area of the company’s work, supporting and consulting with the MTW team and project leads to ensure best possible practice. We will be looking to recruit a Board Lead for our work in Butetown (we are committed to working in Butetown from January 2024 – Summer 2026), alongside the Leads for Welsh, Diversity, Safeguarding and Environment.

Why do we want Young Trustees?
It’s crucial to our work to have young people’s ideas and expertise in the organisation. We need the broadest range of perspective on our Board, and we want to be guided by a range of people who can contribute to the continued development of our work across all communities, and that includes young people. We are looking to recruit at least one person aged 18 to 25 to bring their voice to the table, to help us find the best ways forward for the future of opera, for the future of the company and most importantly, for future audiences and artists from all backgrounds.

We also want to support young people in their professional and personal development, and we will work with Young Trustees to ensure this is an opportunity for them to build their knowledge and experience. Young Trustees will receive mentoring from existing Trustees and training will be provided for any areas they feel less confident in.

In addition to the recruitment of a young trustee and Board Lead for Butetown, we are also looking to recruit Trustees in a general capacity and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, ages, skills and experience.

Role Description  

Position: Trustee (Board Director) 

Reports to: Chair of the Board of Directors 

Location: London

Remuneration: The role of Trustee is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed 

Time Commitment: Four Board meetings per year, Annual General Meeting and Extraordinary general Meeting as and when required. Attendance at quarterly meetings if appointed to a Board Committee. Attendance at the annual commemoration service. Attendance at the annual presentation of Scholar Certificates. Trustees are expected to commit a minimum of twelve full days a year to the work of the Foundation, including attending meetings, reviewing papers, responding to requests for support from staff, leading on project development and networking. 

Objective 

The members of the Board of Directors agree and oversee the strategic direction and priorities of the charity. They have a legal duty to govern the charity to ensure it achieves its charitable objects and, in doing so, to act reasonably, prudently and selflessly in accordance with legal and regulatory guidelines. The Board of Directors will aim to have the best balance of skills, knowledge, expertise and experience to help the Foundation to achieve its purpose. 

Principle Areas of Responsibility  

Responsibilities  

• Be aware of and discharge the responsibilities of a Charitable Trustee and a Director of a Company limited by guarantee.

• Contribute to setting strategic targets and monitoring performance to ensure consistency with the values of the Foundation and to meet its charitable objectives. 

• Ensure that the Foundation takes appropriate steps, including fundraising, to secure necessary resources both financial and human to meet its charitable objects. 

• Exercise oversight of the finances and governance of the organisation. 

• Review the strategic direction and future succession planning to ensure that the Foundation responds to changing health care needs. 

• Ensure the Foundation’s strategy and polices reflect and promote diversity and inclusion.

• Advocate for and support initiatives that ensure nurses and midwives from diverse backgrounds can access FNF’s programmes, to reflect the diverse communities they serve.

• Work with the Board and FNF team to create a compassionate and inclusive environment, encouraging diverse perspectives to contribute to innovation and ideas.

• Ensure that the Foundation prioritises people engagement, leading by example with a focus on collaboration and inclusivity, ensuring all voices are heard and valued.

Governance 

• Safeguard the interest of donors and current and future beneficiaries, acting as guardians of its assets and taking due care over their security, deployment and proper application.

• Work within all agreed policies adopted by the Charity. 

External Relations 

• To act as a figurehead and take on public speaking/press engagements as an ambassador for the charity as appropriate. 

• To be involved, when required, in the selection of scholars and providing support with fundraising initiatives. 

• To safeguard the good name, reputation and values of the Foundation and act as Ambassadors of the Charity. 

Relationship with the Honorary Officers and Chief Executive  

• Establish and build a strong, effective and a constructive working relationship with the Honorary Officers and Chief Executive, ensuring they are held to account for achieving agreed strategic objectives. 

• Provide non-executive support and constructive advice to the CEO and the Executive Team.

• Liaise with the Chief Executive to maintain an overview of the Charity’s affairs, providing support as necessary.

Tenure 

Trustees will be appointed until the 2025 Annual General Meeting in the first instance, with the option for extension for an additional 2 terms of 3 years.  

We anticipate holding interview in late December or early in the new year.

KFC Youth Foundation is seeking a Trustee with lived experience and/or skills, expertise, and frontline experience in the Youth sector or young people’s support services, particularly in the North-East of England.

With the opening of a youth hub in Middlesbrough this trustee would be a particular support for the Foundation team while they set up and manage the hub.

In addition we are keen for this trustee to have a:

• Good understanding of effectively engaging communities and facilitating co-operation and partnership
• The ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders

Previous experience as a Trustee is not required and we are happy to provide training and mentorship

Trustee – Finance

We are seeking a trustee with a financial background with experience that would help the charity to meet our legal and regulatory compliance, and to ensure the good financial health of Soundabout.

Join Rekindle's board to shape the future of a dynamic mental health charity making a real difference in the lives of young people.

Rekindle was started in Newtown, Powys in 1997 by a group of people who had all experienced mental health problems within their own families. The aim was to give relief to those suffering from mental illness with therapy and targeted activities. Rekindle is all about recovery, the recovery of mental health, the recovery of opportunity and the recovery of a fulfilled life.

What will you be doing?

In addition to general trustee responsibilities, we're particularly interested with in candidates who have an interest in local business connections or experience in fundraising or mental health service delivery. Depending on skill, some specific responsibilities may include: 

• Fundraising oversight

Time commitment 

• Estimated at 8 - 10 hours a month.

A well established care home in Dagenham East London caring for the elderly is looking for Trustees to assist with the governance and strategy of the charity.

We provide high quality, stimulating and holistic residential care for elderly people living with dementia. The support and care we provide to our residents enables their families to go about their everyday lives knowing that their loved ones are safe and well cared for in a homely environment.

What will you be doing?

The care home is very well respected in the community and mostly looks after residents from the local area.

The care home was established 32 years ago and is looking for trustees with various skills, such as marketing, finance, healthcare and strategy to join the existing trustee. A care background would be beneficial but is not essential.

The care home has a good reputation in the area and is ranked as 'good' by the Care Quality Commission.

The management in the home have been in position for many years and are a great source of stability for the home.

THE CHURN PROJECT seeks a new Trustee to join Board of Trustees

 We are looking for a passionate and committed individual to join our Board of Trustees and contribute to the overall governance and strategic oversight of our organisation.

The Churn Project is a well-established and highly regarded community charity dedicated to reducing isolation and enhancing wellbeing for those in and around Cirencester. We focus on supporting individuals facing loneliness, life transitions, poverty, or mental health challenges. Our vision is for all residents to feel included and valued. What is unique about the Churn Project is that we support people from pregnancy to old age through our three services: Family, Community Wellbeing and Ageing Well.

We are looking for new Trustee to join our energetic and committed Board and help steer the charity through its next exciting period of development.

We welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds, whether you are an experienced Trustee or wanting to take your first step at Board level.  We would like to increase the diversity and life experience of our Board and are particularly interested in people who offer one or more of the following:

Trustees are unpaid directors of the charity, who have overall control of it and work together to oversee its strategy, direction and aims. In essence, Trustees are responsible for making sure the charity does what it was set up to do.

· Trustees meet every 8 weeks for two hours, normally during the day, in the Churn Project offices in Cirencester. We hold at least one away day every year which Trustees are asked to attend, together with the AGM evening and occasional ad hoc events. 

· In addition, Trustees need to allow time to read papers ahead of meetings.  When appropriate, we use occasional working groups for particular issues and Trustees are invited to join these in line with their experience, skills and interests.

South West Advocacy Network (SWAN) want to strengthen their Board of Trustees with up to 4 new Trustee appointments, including a Treasurer. These are voluntary positions and provide opportunity to help SWAN to develop its strategic direction and sustain innovative services to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, primarily, but not solely, in counties across the South of England.

SWAN began life in Wiltshire and over the past 25 years has expanded into Somerset, Bristol, Dorset, Isle of Wight, West Berkshire and Portsmouth. We deliver high quality, independent advocacy services supporting a diverse range of vulnerable people. We have developed a model of advocacy which ensures everyone, including the most marginalised, have the same rights and opportunities as their fellow citizens. Our services are free at the point of delivery, confidential and non-judgemental.

We work with people from all walks of life and have already supported thousands of the most disadvantaged people to have their voice heard and their choices respected by those that are making decisions about their future.

We are looking for dynamic and empathetic people to become trustees within our organisation, people who have the passion and drive to support SWAN and help us to ensure that the voices around our Board table reflect and understand the communities we work in. We would encourage people from all sections of our communities to apply , but particularly Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic, disabled, and LGBTQ+ applicants because these groups are currently under-represented on our Board. We are happy to accept applications from people without prior Board experience but who can evidence their commitment to our purpose, values and ambitions and show a willingness to learn in the role.

The organisation is led and managed by the Chief Executive and the Executive Team who oversee the delivery of our services and the infrastructure that underpins them, and we believe that this, coupled with sound governance, will help us to achieve our vision and maximise our reach and impact.

We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate some of the following:

• Experiences that will bring different perspectives to our organisation i.e. being a member of , or working in, diverse or minority communities.

• Having direct experience of using advocacy or support services

• An understanding of, or interest in, the lives of vulnerable adults including those who have been  victims of hate crime

• An understanding of, or interest in, the wider voluntary sector

• A commitment and willingness to improving the lives of vulnerable people

• Integrity, strategic vision and relationship building skills

• Governance, finance, and/or entrepreneurial experience

• Good communication skills and knowing how to work as part of a team

Time commitment averages 1 day a month, meeting locations are flexible and either face to face or virtual. Trustee expenses, including travel are paid.
