About Roots Academy
At Roots Academy, we’ve built a learning experience that’s changing the lives of the ummah’s future leaders, change-makers and visionaries.
Our vision is enabling university students to live God-centred lives, so we teach structured, engaging and transformative face-to-face foundational Islamic education to over 1,800 students across the UK.
Role Summary
The Safeguarding Officer will work with the People Team Lead and the Trustee Board in ensuring that appropriate arrangements are in place for keeping students, volunteers and team members safe at Roots Academy.
You will promote the safety and welfare of young people involved in Roots Academy’s activities at all times.
Key tasks
- Support with developing, reviewing and implementing Roots Academy’s safeguarding policies and procedures: ensuring all safeguarding issues concerning students and volunteers who take part in Roots Academy’s activities are responded to appropriately.
- Make sure that everyone working or volunteering at Roots Academy, including the board of trustees, understands the safeguarding policy and procedures and knows what to do if they have concerns about a student or volunteer’s welfare.
- Develop and deliver safeguarding training.
- Make sure students and young people who are involved in activities at Roots Academy know who they can talk to if they have a welfare concern and understand what action the organisation will take in response.
- Receive and record information from anyone who has concerns about a student or volunteer who takes part in Roots Academy’s activities.
- Responding to information that may constitute a safeguarding concern, including a concern that an adult involved with Roots Academy may present a risk to children or young people. This includes:
a. assessing and clarifying the information
b. making referrals to statutory organisations as appropriate
c. consulting with and informing the relevant members of the organisation’s management
d. following the organisation’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
- Liaise with, pass on information to and receive information from statutory agencies such as the police. This includes making formal referrals to agencies when necessary.
- Store and retain safeguarding records according to legal requirements and the organisation’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
- Work closely with the board of trustees the People Team Lead to ensure they are kept up to date with safeguarding issues and are fully informed of any concerns about organisational safeguarding practice.
- Report regularly to the board of trustees on issues relating to safeguarding, to ensure that safeguarding is seen as an ongoing priority issue and that safeguarding requirements are being followed at all levels of the organisation.

- Experience as a qualified social worker or safeguarding lead desirable
- Understanding of safeguarding in further education desirable

The Trustees come from all walks of life and bring a variety of skills, experience and attributes to their input at HNHA.

The Role
As a Chair of the Board you will be responsible for ensuring the organisation is run efficiently and effectively. Duties will include:
- Chairing meetings at a strategic level
- Supporting the leadership team in giving strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, goals and targets
- Adopt and monitor budgets and operational plans
- Keep abreast of changes affecting Harrogate Neighbours, the people we support, related activities in housing and care provision in our local area
- Act as ambassadors for Harrogate Neighbours Housing Association
The Person
To be considered for this unique opportunity you should be a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated individual. You should be a creative thinker with an ability to communicate clearly whilst acting with integrity. You will be able to interpret and understand complex information and have an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trustees.
Good judgement and understanding of the need for confidentiality, sensitivity and a non-judgemental attitude are paramount for this position. We would be keen to speak to people with expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas:

The board hold meetings six times per year and you would be expected to attend the majority of those, plus you would also be required to attend the AGM. Trustees are also invited to attend various events and activities hosted by Harrogate Neighbours throughout the year at their own discretion.

Time Commitment:

Term of Office
The external member shall be independent and shall be appointed by the Board for a term of office of up to four years (subject to annual review) by the Board; and can be reappointed for a further term, not exceeding eight years in total.

Outline of the Referrals Networker role
If you thrive on networking and making new connections, this vital and interesting role offers the opportunity to create and develop relationships with local agencies, such as Job Centres, social services and many others who may be able to refer potential Readers to the group. The longevity of our local groups is down to securing a steady stream of Reader referrals, so you will play an instrumental part in making sure your group thrives.
How we will support you
You will be provided with the Management Team Handbook, training/induction, policies and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader. You will also be invited to Read Easy UK’s regional forums and annual conference which give volunteers an opportunity for networking with those from other groups.
What you will be doing
● Liaising with your group to establish which organisations have already been contacted, so that you can build on that initial work.
● Managing the relationship between the referral agencies and the group.
● Seeking out new referral agencies as the group grows in capacity.
● Familiarising yourself with the Publicity Organiser’s resources available to you.
● Creating a record of organisations and agencies who are likely to come into contact with those who don’t read and the dates you are in touch with them.
● Contacting these organisations regularly to provide information about what your group offers and identify how they can best inform their personnel to make referrals.
● Keeping your local group informed about your activity and identifying how many of your© Read Easy UK 2 June 2023 contacts refer new Readers.
● Attending Management Team meetings, typically every 6-8 weeks.

Outline of the Fundraiser role
You will be seeking funding from local organisations that are interested in investing directly into their local communities. The average cost of running an average sized Read Easy group, is approximately £3,500 a year. Your role is vital to your local group as you will be able to access local funds that Read Easy UK is not able to apply for as a national charity
How we will support you
You will be provided with the Management Team Handbook, policies, training/induction, guidance and resources specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader. You will also be invited to Read Easy UK’s regional forums and annual conference which give volunteers an opportunity for networking with those from other groups.
What you will be doing
● With your Management Team, plan how much money is needed to be raised to cover group expenses and agree best approaches to fundraising.
● Write applications to local community funding organisations and businesses.
● Arrange fundraising events, as agreed by Management Team.
● Maintain a database of fundraisers.
● Make public acknowledgement and thanks to donors.
● Attending Management Team meetings, typically every 6-8 weeks.

About Citizens Advice Southampton
This local and essential Charity provides vital support to the people of Southampton. Citizens Advice Southampton’s incredible volunteers and paid staff help more than 6500 people with 11000 issues every year, providing advice that is free, independent, impartial and confidential.
Advice is delivered in person, by telephone and email to members of the public in need of help in areas such as family, immigration and asylum, debt management and welfare benefits, and housing.
Citizens Advice Southampton also has specialist projects which include money advice funded by the Money Advice & Pension Service, specialist services funded by Macmillan cancer support and the MS Society and a Home and Well project aiming to help vulnerable people maintain a safe and healthy home. We lead the Southampton City Council funded ‘Advice in Southampton’ partnership, delivering advice services in conjunction with other local charities.
What will you be doing?
Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, you will:
- explain, guide and advise the other board members on the key assumptions and financial implications of the Citizens Advice Southampton budgets, operational and strategic plans
- ensure that the organisation has a realistic budget that meets the services’ needs and maintains an appropriate reserves policy
- ensure that annual accounts are prepared in compliance with SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) Accounting for Charities and submitted by the deadline to the Charity Commission and/or Registrar of Companies, and make arrangements for them to be audited or independently examined as required

What are we looking for?
You will not necessarily need to have prior experience of being a Trustee, but we are specifically looking to recruit anyone with relevant financial experience which will support them in their role as Treasurer. You could for example be operating as a Financial Manager or Team Leader within an organisation.
Independent Member, Safety Committee
The role of the Independent member is to provide the Safety Committee and the Movement with knowledge and experience for making key decisions. The role is pro bono, but reasonable expense will be paid in accordance with The Scout Association’s Expenses Policy.
Main responsibilities
The remit of the Committee is to support the Board of Trustees to fulfil its responsibilities in relation to Safety by:
1. providing vision and direction for consideration and endorsement by the Board (as required), by identifying and contributing to the development of safety policies, procedures and guidance;
2. ensuring that youth members, adult volunteers, parents and staff are engaged in contributing to the development of safety policies;
3. developing and overseeing a performance framework to ensure that safety policies, procedures and practice are monitored to provide assurance to the Board (relating to members, staff and service users) and use this management information to inform and drive improvements; monitoring the local and national implementation of safety policies and procedures to ensure practice is effective and consistently applied;
4. ensuring that appropriate connections are made with other areas of the Association’s work that may have an impact on safety (for example Adult Training by using incident data to highlight areas of success or concern);
5. ensuring that members receive appropriate support and communication to aid understanding of their responsibilities to enable Safe Scouting;
6. leading the process for Fatal Accident and/or Near Miss inquiries from commissioning through to completion;
7. reviewing and overseeing actions from inquiry reports (this should be in conjunction with the respective staff functions, particularly where there is specific policy, procedure and/or practice changes that need to be recommended for consideration by the Strategy and Delivery Committee and/or Board (as required);
8. identifying possible areas of development for the Association’s safety activities, taking into account relevant national agendas and learning from reviews whether this be external or internal to the Association.
Past or present membership of The Scout Association would be an advantage but is not an essential requirement. What is essential is a commitment to the vision and values of Scouting and the ability to challenge the Association’s policies and practices positively.

Top Church Training are a registered charity whose overall focus is to support personal development, improve employment prospects, provide practical help through difficult times and offer a gateway through which people can become more involved in community life.
We are seeking a Company Secretary who can use their skills and capabilities to assist the Board to operate efficiently and effectively. You will also help the charity to continue providing vital support to those who need it.
What will you be doing?
This role is for someone who is organised and methodical, with an eye for detail. You will take minutes at Board meetings and make sure the charity follows company law. You will also participate fully in Board meetings and play an important part in the strategic direction of the charity.
Together the Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance and management of the Charity, including regulatory compliance. However, the Company Secretary is expected to lead on all aspects of the charities adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, that includes submission of documentation to the appropriate body.
This includes being able to present and explain any requirements to other Trustees, to aid the Board’s understanding and ability to jointly make decisions about changes to the charities governance matters.

Help us uncover and tell artsdepot's history in a new project for our 20th anniversary year.
We’re looking for volunteers to build artsdepot’s archive, uncover new stories and share its journey to become the cultural venue in Barnet. Over the next nine months, in collaboration with heritage specialists, we will be collecting oral histories, revisiting key events and tracking down photos to build an exhibition which will be displayed at artsdepot as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations.
We want to tell the story of artsdepot, the ideas that shaped it, the challenges along the way, and the impact on our community. However, we want this very same community to help shape how we tell this story. We are looking for volunteers to play a key part in the creation of this project with support from the artsdepot team.
Volunteers will share their own memories and ideas of artsdepot and gather stories from audiences, trustees, councillors, community members and others involved in artsdepot since its inception. Volunteers will then create a powerful, engaging and informative display with these stories with support and guidance from industry experts while developing their own skills and knowledge.
The resulting exhibition will be a testament to the creativity and community spirit that has driven artsdepot over the past two decades.
Time commitment: We welcome anyone but respect it’s not always possible to find the time to volunteer. The contribution of each volunteer will vary from role to role and person to person but for some volunteers it might be once a week while for others it could be a few hours a month.

General Admin role to support the charities core day to day activity and give support to the Co-Chair of the charity as well as the volunteer GM. The role will include issuing volunteer agreeements, making sure all policies are up to date working with the trustees, issuing thank you letters and logging donations. A good understanding of balance sheets, use of excel, excellent communication skills are needed and you will need to love dogs and love being organised. We work in a fun team atmosphere remotely but we chat on WA and zoom often and are in touch daily. We also meet up for fundraising events across the country. Social Anxiety Alliance UK is a young and developing charity looking for an experienced Treasurer with a background in financial management and accounting who can also help us to find funding and grants to continue the charity's development. The Treasurer will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial administration of the charity and will have a good understanding of charity finance and potential funding/grant awarding bodies. The Treasurer would also need to be willing to be a Trustee and aware of the governance issues relating to such a role.
Social anxiety involves an excessive fear of social situations. Sufferers will often fear being embarrassed or worry about being negatively evaluated by others. Anticipatory anxiety and situational avoidance are common, and individuals may endure social situations with a high level of discomfort. The scope of the anxiety may be focused on specific types of social situations or generalised to almost any social encounter.
We are the first UK charity dedicated to Social Anxiety.
We are a friendly board and we hold our meetings monthly online in the evening. Getting involved will mean that you can work with us to ensure financial sustainability, maximise income through grant applications and to set the strategic direction for the charity. You will also work with the Board to ensure that the charity operates within regulatory requirements and to develop projects which will help the charity to achieve its mission and goals.

Main duties of the role
· Hold a portfolio of work across a range of resourcing areas for the charity.
· Collaborate closely with the Head of Resources, providing information, insight, and guidance for the effective delivery of key strategy objectives across finance, HR, Governance, fundraising and IT operations.
Key Responsibilities
Finance
· To provide financial information including management accounts with analysis, forecasting and insightful commentary to internal and external stakeholders.
· To support the annual budgeting process.
· To maintain financial procedures and controls.
· To support managers to make decisions based on forecasts and budgets, providing challenge and financial expertise where necessary.
HR
· Undertake and deliver all HR transactional administration including recruitment, selection, appointment, induction and exit interviews.
· Support production of HR reporting to Senior Management Team and Trustees on a regular basis including staff sickness, diversity, complaints, grievances, disciplinary, turn-over, training, appraisal etc.
· Support Head of Resources on welfare support to staff to include internal promotion of staff benefits and liaison with external providers.
Governance
· Support the preparation and circulation of Board meeting papers and packs.
· Provide organisational and administrative support to the Senior Management Team and be the single point of contact for the Trustees.
Other Duties
· Assist as required with the co-ordination of YSS events.
· To take responsibility for keeping own knowledge up to date on relevant legislation and strategies that affect YSS services.
· To understand and actively promote the vision, values and profile of YSS.
· To uphold the highest standards of professionalism at all times, ensuring that EDI principles are adhered to.
· To maintain continuity of cover for holidays and sickness.
· To ensure all work is carried out in a safe and appropriate manner and in accordance with YSS policies and procedures e.g. lone working, health and safety, child and adult protection, risk, confidentiality etc.
· To undertake any other tasks of a similar level of responsibility as requested by the Head of Resources.

About the Role of Chair
The Pyramid is now seeking a new Chair of the Board, ideally an experienced trustee who can work with the Trustees and Chief Officer to guide the organisation’s strategy and development, ensuring its long-term sustainability. The Chair will oversee the organisational plan and work with the Chief Officer to ensure its effective delivery.
To be considered for this role, candidates should ideally have previous board or governance experience, strong communication and committee skills, a good understanding of the third sector—particularly SCIOs—and the ability to effectively manage the Board. Regardless of background, individuals who embody qualities such as a genuine concern for others, honesty, integrity, and alignment with The Pyramid’s mission are encouraged to get in touch for more information.

Time Commitment Required
The Chair will be required to prepare for and attend Board Meetings, which are currently every 4–6 weeks, as well as annual planning days and possibly sub-committee work. Board meetings are held in person but may occasionally be held remotely.
