Home-Start Cambridgeshire have a vision of giving the children of Cambridgeshire the best possible start in life. Our mission is to empower parents with the skills, knowledge and emotional resilience to raise their children to flourish.

Our trustees take responsibility for the governance of the charity, ensuring we meet our objects, use our money and resources properly, and leading on strategy. We’re currently looking to fill up to four roles on our board of trustees. These roles include those of Trustee, Vice Chair and Deputy Treasurer.

As a trustee you will be able to use your skills and experience and have a direct influence over our direction and governance. It is a rewarding role, but there are responsibilities meaning you will need to give enough time to help us succeed.

We’re looking for individuals who understand the important role our charity fills in shaping the life outcomes of children and families in our county, and who want to contribute to our mission.

You do not need to have experience of acting as a trustee to apply for our trustee roles, apart from the position of Vice-Chair. For the Deputy Treasurer role, we are seeking expertise in management accounts and financial control.

About Us

Every Future Foundation is an established anti-racism youth charity dedicated to challenging and eradicating racism and prejudices by educating the next generation and equipping them with the skills to be catalysts for change. Our primary focus is to deliver transformational anti-racism programs in schools and provide intensive training for educators. Our Activism Academy Programme empowers young passionate leaders to develop their skills in social action, community organising, and pursuing racial justice. 

Our Activities:

Every Future Foundation delivers impactful anti-racism interventions targeting London Boroughs with high rates of racist and Islamophobic hate crimes. Our core services include:

• Student Programme: Targets all ethnicities to increase understanding of racism, enhance racial empathy, and educate on combating racism.
• CPD Teacher Training: Equips teachers with skills to address racism and intolerance.
• Activism Academy: Inspires young leaders with lessons on leadership and activism.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

• Reviewing and supporting the creation of our 3-year plan - including:
  • Identifying new income streams to increase our income by 300% in the 3 year period, ideally moving away from dependence on grants & trusts.
  • Exploring new routes to market for our educator training offering to boost systemic impact and income generation (e.g. partnerships with Universities, teacher training orgs, headteacher training orgs, routes to market that aren’t through schools)
• Supporting with a change in management - with a shift from a full-time CEO to either 2 x Co-CEOs or onboarding a new COO or partnerships manager. Including supporting with the recruitment and onboarding of the new position.

Line Management Support

• Monthly 1-2-1's with our CEO/Director to support with strategy, financial health of the organisation and any ad-hoc challenges that the organisation might be experiencing.

Other Duties:

• Chairing our Trustee meetings held 6 times a year – and improving how effective these meetings are.
• Facilitate informed decision-making and collaboration among Trustees.

Term:

• Appointment for a 3-year term.
• The first 2 months will be a commitment of 4-5 hours a month with an ongoing 3 hour monthly commitment.

Lead the board of EPIC Restart Foundation and empower people to restart positive lives after gambling harm.

Skills & Experience

The Wessex Museums Trust is seeking a new independent trustee to join the Board as Finance Lead. The role of the Finance Lead is to maintain a strategic overview of the Trust’s finances. The Organisation:

Sir Henry Irving founded the Fund in 1882 with a number of other actors and stage managers. Over 140 years, Presidents have included Sir John Gielgud, Sir Lawrence Olivier and Dame Penelope Keith. We are thrilled that our Royal Patron has recently been confirmed as King Charles III.

The ABF is a membership charity with over 600 members who are from the acting or stage management fraternity. Members select up to 12 trustees from within the membership to govern and take responsibility for the ABF’s management and administration. The Board of Trustees delegates authority to a number of sub committees, including Grants & Services, Finance & Operations, and Marketing & Engagement. We ask trustees to join one of these committees.

For over 140 years, the Actors' Benevolent Fund has supported actors and stage managers experiencing hardship due to injury, illness or old age. To date this support has consisted of financial grants and benefits advice, as well as a listening ear. This support is delivered by a small staff team at Adam Street just off The Strand in London.

TRUSTEE - BRANCH SECRETARY 

RSPCA South West Somerset Branch

Overview of the Branch Secretary opportunity

As a Branch Secretary, you would be in an essential volunteer role as the principal communications trustee managing and maintaining the administrative affairs of our branch. Using your expertise and skills, you will be able to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives.

This role would require a time commitment of 1-4 hours per month.  This would include attending a committee meeting every 4-6 weeks in the evenings, usually lasting up to 2 hours and the annual general meeting.

We are happy to take applications from outside the branch catchment area, as long as you are able to join meetings by electronic means such as Zoom, and are willing to travel to in person meetings a couple of times a year.

Founded in 1824 we have been saving animals for almost 200 years and are proud to be the oldest welfare charity around. It has always been our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion, so our volunteers and employees work tirelessly to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering.

The RSPCA South West Somerset Branch

The RSPCA South West Somerset Branch is one of the branches of the RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of the RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of the RSPCA.

The RSPCA South West Somerset Branch runs charity shops in Taunton, Wellington, Chard and Bridgwater.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Secretary

• To act as the primary contact point for all branch communications with the national Society, the branch committee, and the branch membership.

• Arrange branch meetings, ensure accurate minutes are taken and distributed in accordance with branch rules.

• Ensure all branch committee decisions are implemented and actions completed.

• Arrange the branch AGM including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations, and agenda in line with the strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.

• Arrange the timely dissemination of the contents of all correspondence and literature received by the branch, ensuring availability to all committee members, and reply to all branch correspondence where necessary.

• Order and distribute RSPCA stationery, leaflets, posters and other fundraising and promotional material.

• Liaise with the Branch support specialist (BSS) and group chief inspector and notify them of all branch meetings.

• Advise the BSS of all changes to branch facilities, services, and contact details.

• Maintain the branch membership list.

• Submit recommendations for national Society awards to the BSS, in accordance with the wishes of the committee.

Core Branch Trustee responsibilities

• Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.

• Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.

• Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).

• In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.

• Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.

• Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support regional initiatives.

• Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.

• In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.

What we are looking for in a volunteer:

Above all, we are looking for someone who is committed to the RSPCA’s charitable objectives and shares our passion for animal welfare. 

Specific skills such as finance, fundraising, project management, business experience, awareness of employment and/or charity legislation can be useful, but not essential.

You will need to be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert, although commitment, common sense, and the ability to be objective are vital.

What we can offer you as a volunteer Branch Secretary

• We will provide you with a comprehensive trustee training course which will provide you will everything you need to carry out the role.

• Ongoing support is also provided by regional and national RSPCA staff in addition to any additional training provided by the relevant branch.

• The platform to utilise your skills and experience to oversee the charity and make decisions that have a direct impact on local animal welfare.

• The opportunity to gain new skills and develop existing ones, whilst making a real difference to the lives of animals.

• A way to expand your professional and personal network through working with like-minded people.

Practical considerations

• Please also note that to become a Trustee, you will need to be aged 18 or over and a member of our branch for three months before you are eligible to be elected.

• Trustees are elected for a 12-month term each year.

• Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

• Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to clarify that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and read the Charity Commission’s guidance for individuals on who cannot be a trustee or senior manager of a charity.

We Are REMIX!

Introducing REMIX, a vibrant new youth charity that’s being set to EMPOWER, INSPIRE, and TRANSFORM the lives of young people across London. At REMIX, we believe in the boundless potential of our young people, and we’re dedicated to unlocking it through a suite of evidence-based programmes tailored to nurture essential life skills and personal development.

Our mission is to craft a future where every young individual has the opportunity to thrive. We’re committed to providing dynamic youth work and community-based activities that resonate with the hearts and minds of our young people, supporting them with their healthy lifestyles, essential life skills and personal growth and development, ready to shape their futures.

As a new startup youth charity in London, we need the guidance, help and support from volunteers who are driven, proactive, solution focused and able to help provide governance and strategic direction to our brand new youth charity as one of our Trustees. We are seeking a Trustee to dedicate a few hours each month to be a guiding force and exemplary leader at REMIX.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide governance and oversight to ensure REMIX operates effectively and ethically.
• Contribute to the development of our strategic goals and objectives.
• Monitor our performance and ensure financial stability.
• Act as an ambassador for REMIX, advocating for our cause and values.

We’re Looking For Someone With:

• A commitment to the mission and values of REMIX.
• Strategic vision and sound judgement.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team, providing guidance, help and support to REMIX and the CEO.
• Experience in leadership roles or governance (desirable but not essential) or experience related to REMIX such as youth work, etc.
• Drive, proactive tendancies and who is solution focused.
