Bardet-Biedl Syndrome UK (BBS UK) is looking for new Trustees to support the charity with its communication strategy and community engagement.
We’re looking for trustees who have some of the following professional skills:

We are also looking for trustees with lived experience of BBS. No additional professional skills are required for those with lived experience of BBS, though any relevant skills would be beneficial.
No previous Trustee experience is required.
As a BBS UK Trustee, you will have:

Commitment:

Our work is grounded in research, lived experience, and 15 years of delivering supported holidays around the UK for people with dementia and their family carers. In that time, we have also become a reputable training provider for healthcare and outdoor leisure professionals, specialising in developing dementia skills, nature-based activities, and multi-sensory approaches to care and inclusion.
In a year that has seen some exciting new partnerships develop, the launch of Green Letter Days, and our engaging ‘Today I will …’ social media campaign, this is an excellent time to join Dementia Adventure’s Board as we develop the next period of growth and strategic development. Chaired by Debbie Marshall, Managing Director of the Silver Marketing Association, our trustees bring knowledge and experience in travel, sustainability, healthcare management, law and finance from their respective sectors. We are looking for three more trustees to join them who would also be keen advocates for the cause and are well-networked in their fields.
The role will involve attending up to six meetings a year, all digitally accessible, but with the aim of meeting in person on two of those occasions in London and at our offices near Chelmsford. In addition to providing strategic oversight, support, and challenge to the organisation, which comprises 24 staff and over 120 volunteers, there will be opportunities to engage in various ways, with an average time commitment of three hours per month.

We're currently recruiting for a small number of new Trustees who are passionate about tackling homelessness and want to support a well-established charity extend its impact.
What do we do?
Street Support Network connects local people and organisations in order to support those experiencing, and at risk of experiencing homelessness.
Our website is an online hub to find out about homelessness, see what support is available, and see what you can do to help.
In addition to hosting the website, we work extensively offline, connecting people to co-produce better solutions, facilitating conversations and co-ordinating action across the sector.
Who are we looking for?
We'd love to work with collaborators, preferably with experience of charity governance, working with or as part of the board of a not-for-profit organisation, or with public sector experience. We’d also be very keen to hear from people with lived experience of homelessness.
But please don’t let a lack of experience hold you back from applying. We know that skills and knowledge don’t always come from previous roles. Often, it’s less about what you have done, and more about what you can do. We’re looking for someone who fits in with our close-knit team and will help us operate and innovate.

Trustee Terms
If your application is successful, we see the first few months being a time where we can both get a feel for whether we’d like to make the position permanent.
Throughout this period our Chair will check in to discuss how things are going, receive feedback, and provide any support needed. Our meetings are usually monthly and take place online. We aim to meet face-to-face once or twice a year in Manchester. The role is voluntary but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Tanzania Development Trust (TDT) works in some of the poorest parts of Tanzania, helping people to lift themselves out of poverty by funding small projects that meet their essential needs.
It sponsors 40-50 small rural development projects p.a. in Tanzania, mainly in the areas of clean water, girls' education and small income generating activities. It also has 3-4 larger, longer-term projects. Its primary function is fundraising, although it provides general project management and business advice where appropriate.
Around half of its income comes from individual donors, and half from Trusts & Foundations. It helps villagers in Tanzania who lack the capacity and language skills to present their projects to international donors, conducting project appraisals and monitoring project outcomes on their behalf. The projects are implemented by the villagers themselves, or by small local contractors.
TDT is run entirely by volunteers (17 regular volunteers in the UK and 16 local representatives in Tanzania). It has no paid staff, premises or overheads, so 100% of all money raised goes directly to projects in Tanzania.
We are looking for additional Trustees who can help us to grow by identifying potential donors, increasing awareness of our activities, and strengthening our project selection and monitoring procedures.
We would like at least one of the new Trustees to help us with fund-raising by piloting more innovative and creative approaches. Experience of living or working in Tanzania is not essential, but to improve the Board’s racial diversity we would like at least one of the new Trustees to be of Tanzanian origin or have strong connections with East Africa.
The Trustees are all unpaid. Although their main job is the overall direction of the business, they can become involved in day-to-day operations if they so wish. We all work remotely, which helps us to engage with our local representatives in Tanzania in everything we do.
The work we do is immensely rewarding. You would be joining a close-knit organisation that is growing and adapting to meet the needs of a changing world, where helping poor people to help themselves is of paramount importance.

St Hilda’s East is a vibrant, multi-purpose community organisation with a 135-year history of combating deprivation and social exclusion in East London.
Founded as a settlement in 1889 by alumnae of the Cheltenham Ladies’ College, we now work across 2 sites within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets: a large community centre in Shoreditch, and a day centre in Shadwell.
We welcome local people of all ages to our community centre where we offer a wide range of life-changing services and opportunities to enhance wellbeing, learn new skills and meet people of diverse backgrounds. We provide support and services including pre-school, children’s and youth projects for boys and girls, legal advice provision, a volunteer-run Food Co-op, a Women’s Project working with Bangladeshi and local women, and two projects for the Over 50s: Feeling Good and LinkAge Plus.
At our day centre, Sonali Gardens, we provide culturally appropriate care and support for Bangladeshi and other communities with a focus on supporting elders in the community, with a team of bi-lingual Bengali speaking staff.
Funding for our work comes from a range of sources: charitable trust grants, livery companies, local Council contracts, sponsored events, corporates, community fundraising and donations – as well as income generation from hiring out space in the freehold community centre premises.
We are seeking new Trustees to become actively involved in the strategic direction, governance and decision making of St Hilda’s East. As a Trustee you will join an actively engaged group of volunteers who are committed to making a difference to the residents of Tower Hamlets.
You do not need to have prior experience of being a Trustee or of working with boards; training on the charity and the role of a Trustee will be provided. Whether you are an experienced Trustee or wanting to take your first step at Board level, we would love to hear from you.
We are looking, in particular, for one or more of the following skills/experience to complement our existing Trustees:

The Board meets 6 times a year on weekday evenings; meetings are usually in person. In addition, Trustees are encouraged to join the working group best suited to their interest and skillset; these meetings are held via Teams/Zoom during office hours. Trustees are appointed for a term of 3 years, with the possibility of serving multiple terms.

The board of trustees are jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Farm, it’s financial health, probity of its activities, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document and legal and regulatory guidelines.
All trustees should be aware of, and understand, their individual and collective responsibilities, and should not be overly reliant on one or more individual trustees in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity. For example, all trustees should be able to read the financial accounts.
THE ROLE
Main Responsibilities
· To ensure that the charity, and its representatives, function within all legal and regulatory requirements applicable, and in line with the organisation’s governing document, continually striving for best practice in governance.

· To achieve the purpose of the charity and to pursue the charitable objects, and provide public benefit.
Main Duties
- Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements, and acts within the confines of its governing document and in furtherance to the charitable objects.
- Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times.
- Promoting and developing the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its public benefit and recognising the situation when it may be more appropriate to wind the charity up where there is no longer a need for the charity to provide the services it does or because the charitable objects are no longer relevant to contemporary social situations.
- Maintaining sound financial management and control of the charity’s resources.
- Ensuring a fully effective and appropriate system for the recruitment, appointment and monitoring of the work and activities of the General Manager and, where applicable, other members of the senior management team.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, striving for best practice in good governance.
- Acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques (including any electronic transactions) and any applications for funds.
- To maintain absolute confidentiality about all aspects of the trustees’ business, bearing in mind the over-riding legal obligations placed upon trustees.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Deen City Farm and Riding School is an urban farm with an educational focus in the heart of the London Borough of Merton. With over 60,000 visitors a year, our five-acre site includes a farmyard, gardens, riding school, shop, café and small playground. About Us:
Independent Choices Greater Manchester provides advice and support for survivors of domestic abuse in Greater Manchester. We offer a confidential helpline that offers survivors information about their legal options for safety, housing options, refuge availability, safety planning, contacting, and reporting to the police as well as emotional support, aimed at breaking the cycle of abuse and empowering survivors to take control of their lives through informed choices. Our helpline is accessed by survivors, friends and family and professionals who support survivors.
Position Overview:
As a trustee, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the strategic direction and governance of our organisation. Your insights, expertise, and commitment will help us fulfil our missions and aims.
You will:
- Ensure alignment with our vision, mission and values and help identify new opportunities to meet these.
- Develop the board of trustees to make the most of existing skills and experience and build capability and diversity.
- Champion an evidence-based approach to decision-making using data and evaluation from our programs to meet the needs of survivors and provide feedback to funders.

- Support our manager to identify and focus on operational priorities and efficiently build resilience amongst our team of staff and volunteers.
- Collaborate with trustees to provide strategic direction regarding the charity’s services, finances, legal, HR, communication, and partners/ stakeholders engagement.
- Ensure the board of trustees uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of governance and decision-making.
Knowledge and Experience:
- A good understanding of the trustee role, coupled with the readiness and dedication to invest the required time, preparation, and effort to fulfil trustee duties effectively.
- Understanding or openness to learning about the intricate nature of domestic abuse and its effects on individuals, families and communities.

We are looking for an experienced senior finance leader to chair our Finance and Resources Committee (FRC). As well as principal oversight of all financial matters, you will also overlook the disposition of the investment portfolio and strategic planning for our whole property portfolio.
With multi-million pound annual cash flows from our thousands of volunteers across dozens of divisions nationwide, the role requires a deft and experienced hand as we move through the final stages of our organisational transformation and finalise Strategy 2030.
As well as attending quarterly Board meetings in Cardiff, you would Chair the FRC, which meets online with a similar frequency. Board Members setthe overall direction of the organisation whilst providing insight and constructive challenge.

SJAC has ambitious plans in place and we are seeking trustees to join our board helping, supporting and guiding us on our journey, willing to be strong advocates for the charity and with the ability to steer the charity towards achieving its strategic priorities.

Finance - a fully qualified accountant with senior level experience and strong analytical skills, you will be able to interpret and scrutinise financial reports and advise the board on the financial performance and risk profile of the charity.
We have supported people and communities across Wales since 1880. We existed before the NHS in Wales and provided the earliest medical support to those who were sick or injured.
Since March 2020, weve worked closely with NHS Wales, increasing our capacity and developing new innovative ways of working to assist and relieve the overwhelming pressure on the frontline healthcare. We are first responders and provide services for people who have fallen and those in crisis. We look after hundreds of thousands of people at over 1000 events per year from football crowds to marathon runners and night time revellers.
We continue to play a major role in strengthening community resilience and ensuring people are trained in first aid so they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved with a blend of St John People, both employees and volunteers.
We provide the opportunity for people from all backgrounds to volunteer with us and develop their personal skills and confidence to support our charitable and income generating services whilst assisting their own career development and their community.
Were undergoing an extensive and exciting programme of modernisation preparing for our new 2025-2030 and beyond strategy. This includes a review of our existing services, financial and workforce models and were developing a rejuvenated culture aligned to our core vision and values to improve our overall people experience.
Job responsibilities
In accordance with our governance rules, our current trustee appointments run for a triennium with potential for a further triennium, presenting an exciting opportunity for suitable persons to join us in governing the charity.
Statutory duties of SJAC trustees
- Ensuring the organisation pursues our stated objects (purposes), as defined in our governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy.
- Ensuring the organisation complies with our governing document (i.e. our trust deed, constitution or memorandum and articles of association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Ensuring the organisation applies resources exclusively in pursuance of our charitable objects(i.e. the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in our own objects, however worthwhile or charitable those activities are) for the benefit of the public.
- Safeguarding the good name and values of our organisation.
- Ensuring the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place.
- Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation.
- Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the proper investment of the charity's funds.
- Following proper and formal arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of the Chief Executive.
Commitment
- Preparing for and attending quarterly in person meetings of the Board each year (currently full days during working hours).
- Attending St John Ambulance Cymru' s AGM (which usually precedes the June Board meeting).
- Being a member of, and actively participating in, at least one (usually more) of the Boards Standing Committees Audit, Risk & Governance, People, Financial Resource, Fundraising & Engagement, Digital & Data, Priory Honours & Awards which all meet at least quarterly. This will include a mixture of face-to-face, hybrid and online meetings, and the requisite preparation work and following up of actions outside the meetings.
- Supporting St John Ambulance Cymru events throughout the year, including the annual Investitures.
- Being responsive to emails and being available to offer ad hoc assistance / advice as required.
- In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve scrutinising Board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise

About the Role
As a result of increased awareness and signposting for individuals receiving a positive CACNA1C diagnosis, our community is increasing in size. Therefore, we are seeking new Trustees who will take an active role in the board, bringing new skills and ideas for how to support our community, advocating for improvement to CACNA1C diagnosis, outcomes and quality of life and to support CACNA1C research initiatives.
Our new Trustees will be responsible for setting the overall strategy and direction for TSA, as well as monitoring the charity’s activity to evaluate progress towards our objectives and goals.
This can include making sure the charity complies with regulations, overseeing financial management and monitoring financial performance, creating and implementing policies and procedures to mitigate risk, and supporting the charity’s operations. Additionally, you will also have the chance to help develop fundraising strategies, including applying for funding and grants to support TSA’s work. Whilst representing the charity externally, there will also be plenty of opportunities to advocate for TSA’s mission of supporting individuals and families affected by CACNA1C-related disorders and raising awareness for this rare disease.

How big is the current Board and what opportunities might there be in the future?

The board currently consists of 7 Trustees. As the charity’s turnover continues to grow, they are currently going through an evolution in their structure and the operations of the charity. This means the new Trustees will be presented with enormous opportunities to shape the future of the charity and to play a leading role on the board moving forward. As a result, it is expected that there will be an opportunity for a new Trustee to develop into the Chair of Trustees role soon.
What are you looking for in candidates?

As a small team, we are ideally seeking those who have prior experience of being a Trustee at a UK based charity or working within the UK charity sector, who can bring demonstratable experience of navigating the challenges that face small charities.
However, we also welcome applications from candidates with an interest in or prior knowledge of charity law and compliance; the change management process; volunteer management; financial planning, processing and auditing; regulatory or policy issues; data management or fundraising.
UK based candidates are preferred, however this is not essential.
What time commitment do you expect from Trustees?

As well as our Board of Trustees meetings, which currently take place 4 times a year, we ask Trustees to dedicate around 2 hours per week to the work of the charity. However, this may fluctuate during busy or quiet periods.
I haven’t heard of TSA or CACNA1C-related disorders before. Can I still be a Trustee?

Absolutely! We are working in the rare diseases space and raising awareness is one of our key goals. Therefore, we have plenty of resources that can help you to learn more about this disorder and how it affects our community. We just ask that people have a passion for helping people and improving patient outcomes.

About the Charity
The Timothy Syndrome Alliance (TSA) is a charity set up to improve diagnosis, treatment and care of individuals with CACNA1C-related disorders, including Timothy Syndrome and LongQT8, and to support the families and carers of those diagnosed worldwide. The charity it is run entirely by families and volunteers, who work with scientists, researchers and medical professionals.
