Branch Trustee, Fundraising Strategy (RSPCA Central London)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person who could devote the time to volunteer with us as one of our Trustees with responsibility for fundraising strategy. As a Trustee of the Branch, you will have the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives.  You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to commit ~20 hrs per month to various activities in support of the branch (e.g., meetings, fundraising events, as well as offline work to develop our fundraising plan and associated administration). However, the commitment may vary depending on whether the trustee takes on additional duties.

The RSPCA Central London Branch
The RSPCA Central London Branch is one of the network of branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area, across central, north east and west London. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which are run by volunteers who have the support of the National
Society of RSPCA.
RSPCA Central London Branch is one of the leading animal welfare organisations in its area of operation. We provide high quality services including adoption and fostering, care andtreatment, inspector support, and advocacy - with a primary focus on cats and small furry animals. We fund our services primarily via income generated from a small network of charity shops, supplemented by bequests, donations, grants, and public fundraising.
Founded in 1824 the RSPCA has been saving animals for almost 200 years and are proud to be the oldest welfare charity around. It has always been our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion, so our volunteers and employees work tirelessly to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering.
Primary responsibilities for the role of Branch Trustee - Fundraising Strategy
● Develop and own the end-to-end fundraising strategy for the branch
● Proactively plan resourcing to support fundraising activities, e.g., other trustee
participation and engagement, volunteer engagement, etc.
● Oversee the day-to-day fundraising activities outlined in the fundraising strategy
● Help grow and manage an active list of volunteers
● Coordinate and participate in in-person fundraising activities

● Identify new opportunities to fundraise within the community and bring proposals to Branch Trustee meetings for approval (e.g., partnerships with Run for Charity, local festivals, etc.)
● Work closely with our marketing and social media team to promote our animal welfare campaigns, events and fundraising using digital media.
Please note that although there might be some opportunities to visit our animal centres,
this is not a hands-on animal welfare role.
Core Branch Trustee responsibilities:
● Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
● Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
● Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
● In conjunction with fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
● Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.
● Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support local initiatives.
● Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
● In conjunction with fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch.
What we are looking for in a fundraising volunteer:
We are looking for people from all social and cultural backgrounds, with experience and
skills in the following areas:
● Experience working with charitable/ not for profit organisations -
● Fundraising including corporate fundraising, trust fund and grant applications;
● Business planning, including building a strategic roadmap with track record for execution and delivery;
● Hands-on experience building strong partnerships within the community
Alongside the relevant experience, we are looking for someone who is committed to the RSPCA’s charitable objectives and shares our passion for animal welfare. You would be creative, innovative, bring a fresh perspective, and can put ideas into action.

You will needto be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert although commitment, common sense, and the ability to be objective are vital.

● We will provide you with a comprehensive trustee training course which will provide you with everything you need to carry out the role.

Practical considerations:
● Please also note that to become a Trustee, you will need to be aged 18 or over and a member of our branch for three months before you are eligible to be elected (you can join as a member upon application and be considered on a probationary basis until you complete the minimum 3-month membership term if needed)
● Potential trustees must volunteer with the branch for a minimum of 6 months before being considered for election to the board of trustees.
● Trustees are elected for a 12-month term each year.
● Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to confirm that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and read the Charity Commission’s guidance for individuals who cannot be a trustee or senior manager of a charity.
● References will also be required.

Our voluntary roles are subject to an informal interview and trial period. We will ask you to provide contact details for two referees, and dependent on the position, you may need to sign an agreement and undergo specific training before starting the role.

We are seeking to recruit additional trustees with an interest in helping others, who are willing to uphold the food bank’s values, and who can bring life experience to the Board. Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board. They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values, and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance, and ensuring that strong productive relationships are maintained between the trustees, foodbank staff and our team of volunteers.

Key tasks:        

• To manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
• To ensure the Board regularly reviews its structures, roles, relationship to staff and implementing changes whenever necessary.
• To develop a long-term strategy for the foodbank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
• To ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
• To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• To help promote the organisation to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
• To ensure the food bank has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• To act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
• To prepare for and regularly attend and participate in Board and Subcommittee meetings.
• To provide ad hoc support to the staff team and volunteers from time to time.
• To act at all times in accordance with the foodbank’s trustee code of conduct.
• The trustees are encouraged to visit the food bank regularly and interact with staff and volunteers.

They may also undertake additional voluntary work for the charity subject to their availability and skill set.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for people who want to help their local community and work towards the eradication of food poverty whilst supporting the food bank to continue providing emergency food to people who find themselves in crisis. Our ideal candidates would demonstrate:

Thank you for your interest in becoming a board trustee of Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Limited (GBWR), and chair of its governance and finance committee (GFC). 

Wheelchair rugby is an exhilarating sport played by athletes with often severe physical impairments. It has grown rapidly in recent years, overseen by a dedicated team of GBWR staff, trustees, and volunteers.

The board is now looking to appoint a new trustee to join us and help steer the sport through to the LA28 Paralympic Games and beyond. This follows the departure of our longest-serving board member at the end of her third term, and the current GFC chair stepping into her role of senior independent director. This new appointee will have responsibility at board level for matters relating to finance and governance.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the duties and responsibilities imposed on all charity trustees by charity and company law:
 

• Chair the GFC
• Report to the board of trustees and to the GFC on all matters relating to the oversight of GBWR’s financial performance and position (actual and against budget), preparation and agreement of annual budget, developments in financial reporting, and elements of governance which relate to the role
• Liaise with the CEO, head of business operations, outsourced financial services provider, and external auditor in respect of all the above
• Supervise preparation of the annual report and financial statements for the GBWR group of companies, where the charity is the parent company of a trading subsidiary which is being wound down with a view to being made dormant in financial year 2025/26
• Act as a signatory, alongside the chair of the board, on the annual statutory accounts
• Ensure that high standards of governance, robust internal control systems, and risk management procedures are maintained and regularly reviewed, and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
• Participate as a signatory in procedures for incurring expenditure and authorising payments to suppliers in accordance with established tiers of responsibility
• Support and challenge the CEO and the senior leadership team as necessary and appropriate
• Meet with the CEO and chair of the board as and when required
   

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 All successful candidates will need to demonstrate how they meet the following essential criteria:
 

• Hold a relevant qualification(s) demonstrating financial skills relevant to the role, or be able to demonstrate skills through experience
• Current or recent experience of working, or as a board member, within a corporate or charitable environment
• Thorough knowledge and experience of governance and regulatory framework for corporates and charities
• Be able to demonstrate governance skills through experience; a relevant qualification, eg ICSA, would also be desirable
• Exhibit the highest standards of personal integrity
• Ability to support and challenge the CEO and senior leadership team
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

Time commitment

 It is expected that the chair of the GFC will undertake the following: 
 

• Attend four board meetings per year
• Attend a board strategy day
• Chair four GFC meetings per year
• Attend one subsidiary board meeting per year
• Engage in regular communications with, and support of, the chair, both in person and by phone
• Attend events in an ambassadorial capacity
• Be available for other meetings and/or functions where representation on behalf of GBWR is required

Remuneration and expenses

The role is non-remunerated. Reasonable expenses incurred on official GBWR business will be reimbursed according to the GBWR expense policy.

Term of appointment

The term of appointment is for three years, with a maximum of three terms permitted.

Board and GFC meetings take place in central London. The head office of GBWR is at Twickenham Stadium, Greater London.

Day One Trust’s mission is to help young people from every background to succeed in the creative industries.  Currently the Trust operates two free-to-attend academies – East London Arts & Music (ELAM - opened 2014) and London Screen Academy (LSA - opened 2019). They already have an impressive track record in getting young people from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds into creative industry careers. Our alumni include winners of the BRIT Rising Star and BAFTA Young Game Designer awards, and they are working across the UK games, music and screen industries.

Both our Academies are judged outstanding by OFSTED and the Trust’s finances are healthy. From these secure foundations we want to grow the organisation and expand our impact. The foundations of both DOT academies were laid by leaders in the creative industries, spanning music, film & television; most of our founders still work closely with the academies and serve on the DOT board or on one of its committees, which include the governing bodies of the academies. They are joined by others who bring expertise in Education, finance, operations, and other areas. All of our board and committee members share a passion and commitment for the organisation’s work.

Whether you are an experienced trustee or wanting to take your first step at a non-executive level, we want to hear from you. We will support you in learning about the role and the organisation through your induction and by providing ongoing support from an established board or committee member.

Commitment: For each board or committee that you join, you would be expected to attend four meetings a year as well as an annual strategy day. In addition, you would be expected to engage with the academies between meetings, using your skills, experience and expertise in the most appropriate way to have maximum impact on their success. Typically this will mean three visits to the Academies per year, which could be timed to coincide with board meetings.

Roles available

1. Trustee to chair the Safeguarding and Wellbeing Committee

The Safeguarding and Wellbeing Committee is responsible for ensuring that the Trust safeguards all of the young people in its academies and equips them to succeed in the creative industries or their chosen careers after leaving us. Our mission is to create pathways for under-represented and disadvantaged young people into those industries. Enabling them to overcome the challenges they may face in life while at our academies and afterwards is essential to that mission and we take it just as seriously as our responsibility to keep them safe from harm. We are currently seeking a dynamic individual to assume the role of the Chair of the Committee, who would also join our Trust Board.

2. Trustee to chair the Standards and Teaching Committee

The Standards and Teaching Committee is responsible for ensuring that the Trust’s educational outcomes and the quality of educational experience it provides match that mission. We want young people, whatever their background or circumstances, to make excellent progress in our academies, to experience excellent teaching, and as a result to go on to successful careers in the creative industry, either directly after leaving or after further study. We want to recruit a chair of this committee with experience of leadership in a multi-academy trust or of academy leadership, who can help us strengthen our practice and provide support and challenge to our academy and trust staff and governors. The chair would also join our Trust Board and report on the work of the committee as well as contributing to the overall strategic direction of the Trust.

3. Members of the Standards and Teaching Committee, with one also joining the ELAM Governing body

We want to grow the membership of the Trust’s Standards and Teaching Committee with 3-4 new members to broaden the range of educational expertise in the group. The Standards and Teaching Committee is responsible for ensuring that the Trust’s educational outcomes and the quality of educational experience it provides match that mission. Your educational expertise will be instrumental in enriching the overall educational experience in the academy.

Our first priority is for one of the new members to also join the ELAM Governing Body. In this role, you will play a key part in upholding the highest education standards at  ELAM. As a Member of the ELAM Governing Body, you will report on the Standards and Teaching Committee’s scrutiny of educational standards at the academy, and actively contribute to governance discussions and decision-making processes. 

4. Property or Estates professional to join the Finance, Audit, Operations and Risk Committee

We want to extend the Finance, Audit, Operations and Risk  Committee’s knowledge and experience in property matters by recruiting individuals with experience in property development or estate management. The Trust is responsible for two unique academy buildings which provide industry standard equipment in exciting learning environments. They are now 5 and 8 years old respectively. As they begin to mature, the trust must ensure that the buildings and their facilities continue to meet the needs of students and provide an authentic industry experience for them. In addition, the Trust is planning significant expansion of the ELAM site and is exploring other growth projects, including opening new schools, which will involve constructing new buildings or converting existing sites. Ensuring that these buildings are well designed, securely funded and successfully delivered will be essential to the success of any of these future projects

This is an opportunity to share your professional skills, life experience and to further strengthen the Masonic Support Committee of the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF, the Freemasons’ Charity).

The MCF is funded entirely through the generosity of Freemasons and their families and is one of the largest grant-making charities in the country. We build better lives by enabling opportunity, advancing healthcare and education and promoting independence.

Our mission is to be a force for good by providing support, care and services to Freemasons and their families in need, and supporting other charities to help the most disadvantaged in society.

Being part of this Committee is a rewarding role which will support the MCF Board of Trustees in providing and delivering an effective package of support for Freemasons and their families who are in need.

We are looking for two new Committee members with a professional background in one or more of the following areas:

• Education
• Charitable grants and services to individuals
• Mental health
• Social policy
• Safeguarding
• Health
• Social care

The new Committee members will help us to develop our support and services to achieve maximum impact while being efficient and effective.

Specialist Advisers
We are also looking for two specialist advisers to the committee. Advisers play a vital role in supporting the Committee and the staff by bringing specialist expertise to both policy development and to the grants decision making process. We are particularly seeking two advisers, one with a general medical background and one with mental health expertise. Advisers do not normally attend committee meetings and are instead liaise with staff occasionally and remotely via secure email, phone and video calls. Medical advisers must have an active and clear GMC registration. A full role specification is available on request.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviewing and scrutinising grants policy;
• Reviewing and approving changes to the support package;
• Reviewing the scope and extent of the service offer;
• Considering environmental factors impacting on the level and range of support required;
• Ensuring that support generates maximum impact; and
• Ensuring that engagement with key stakeholders in the Freemasonry community is strong and effective in supporting our work.

REQUIREMENTS

• Experience in any of the key areas mentioned above. In addition, the following would be beneficial:
• Impact assessment;
• Safeguarding leadership;
• Volunteer management on a large scale (MCF has c.300 Visiting Volunteers)
• An interest in supporting people facing financial hardship, health and mobility problems.
• An interest in supporting children and families in need.
• To be an appropriate role model and to ensure that the Committee promotes equity, diversity and inclusion.

TIME COMMITMENT

• Committee members are required to attend four meetings per year, usually held at the offices in Great Queen Street. Some additional time will be required to study papers and possibly to assist in committee project work. This position is of a voluntary nature, however travel expenses can be claimed.
• Advisers must be able to provide a timely response to avoid delaying the decision making process for beneficiaries.

APPOINTMENT AND TENURE

• Appointments are subject to a clear DBS check.
• Committee members are appointed for an initial period of three years and appointments may be renewed at the end of the first period of office, subject to satisfactory appraisal by the Chairperson.
• Committee members are not eligible to hold office for more than six consecutive years unless approved by the MCF Nominations Committee.
• Committee members are appointees not employees.
• To ensure that MCF values are maintained at all times, Committee members are required, on appointment, to agree to, and abide by, the Code of Conduct.
• Committee members are required to undertake a small amount of mandatory training which is conducted online in key areas such as GDPR and safeguarding.

Overview of the Branch Trustee opportunity

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person who could devote the time to volunteer with us as one of our Trustees.  As a Trustee of the Branch, you will have the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long terms aims.

A a minimum, Trustees would normally be expected to attend a committee meeting every 4-6 weeks in the evenings, usually lasting up to 2 hours and the annual general meeting.  However, the commitment may vary depending on whether the Trustee takes on additional duties.

We are happy to take applications from outside the branch catchment area, as long as you are able to join meetings by electronic means such as Zoom, and are willing to travel to in person meetings a couple of times a year.

The RSPCA South West Somerset Branch

The RSPCA South West Somerset Branch is one of the branches of the RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of the RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of the RSPCA.

The RSPCA South West Somerset Branch runs charity shops in Taunton, Wellington, Chard and Bridgwater.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee

• Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.

• Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.

• Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).

• In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.

• Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting.

• Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support local initiatives.

• Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.

• In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.

Chair of Trustees – Friends of The Connection

About The Friends

The Friends of The Connection is an independent charity which is run by volunteers with the support of a part time administrator.  The charity is dedicated to supporting the work of The Connection at St Martin’s with homeless and vulnerable people in central London. The money we raise goes to The Connection with very little spent on administration.  Our current membership is about 900 individuals registered as Friends living in the UK and abroad.  Of these around 600 are regular donors.  On average over the past five years, Friends have contributed around £350,000 every year to the work of The Connection, including legacies.

About the Role

The new Chair will be expected to take the lead in these continuing discussions recognising the role that the Friends can play in raising awareness of The Connection, generating income from an increased membership and through fundraising activities at a local and community level.

A key aspect of the role will be considering how to attract new Friends, especially younger people, either organically or via targeted routes. The Friends wishes to increase the amount of money it raises for The Connection and also to heighten awareness of the work of The Connection.  Discussions are taking place between both charities as to how this can best be achieved.  The new Chair will play a key role in those discussions.

What will you be doing?

Main Responsibilities:

● To liaise with the chair and chief executive to plan, arrange and produce agendas and supporting papers for trustee meetings and for drafting the subsequent minutes

● To act as charity secretary and ensure that charity law, and regulatory requirements of reporting and public accountability are complied with

•  To act as the branch committee member with specific responsibility for informing co-trustees, branch  volunteers, and staff on health and safety matters relating to branch activities, and to assist with the implementation of good health and safety practices.
• Liaise with the branch manager regarding the implementation of any new health and safety guidelines from the Society, or the branch’s health and safety provider.
• Work with staff managers to ensure that the required staff training on health and safety is carried out.

The British Psychoanalytical Society was founded in 1913. The Institute of Psychoanalysis (IoPA) is the outward face and training body of the British Psychoanalytic Society.

About the role

The Honorary Treasurer is a Trustee of the Society, sharing collective responsibility with the Board for its strategic oversight. Key responsibilities include overseeing the Society’s finances and advising the Board on financial matters.

The Honorary Treasurer attends regular monthly finance meetings and monthly Board meetings (3rd Monday evening of the month), all currently held remotely. The Honorary Treasurer also attends the AGM, Informal Meetings and Board Study Days.

Additionally, the Honorary Treasurer chairs the Finance Sub Committee (FSC) of the Board, which provides key financial recommendations on the budget and other financial decisions, including investment advisor reports. They oversee financial management processes managed by the CEO and Head of Finance, making independent recommendations to the Board, with input from the FSC as needed. The Honorary Treasurer has responsibility to feedback advice from the FSC to the Board.

Principle duties

• On behalf of the Board ensure proper accounting records are kept and financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
• As the Chair of the Finance sub-committee (FSC) of the Board and together with the FSC, support the Board and the Executive in their responsibility for ensuring a sound approach to financial decisions.
• Act as a counter signatory in line with the organisation’s delegation of authority.
• Serve as the Board’s liaison with external auditors on specific issues such as the auditors’ management letter, remuneration and related board representations.
• Inform Society members on relevant financial matters, including notification of annual dues and presenting annual accounts with the Head of Finance.
