Main Responsibilities of the Treasurer

In relation to the Committee

• Assist the Chair and management committee to formulate strategic plans and regular review of long-term strategic aims of the organisation.
• Inform organisational financial polies
• To present financial reports to the board, including the organisation’s end of year accounts.
• Advice on the financial implications of the organisation’s operational plans and strategies
• Advise on the organisational fundraising strategy
• Ensure that there is no conflict between investment and CIHA’s mission and values.

In relation to the CEO

• Assist the Chair to appoint the CEO and contribute to the process of appraising and constructively guiding the performance of the CEO.
• Assume guardianship of the legal and financial integrity of the organisation.
• Advise the Chair and CEO on matters of financial strategy.
• Oversee the CEO’s activities in the context of financial responsibility
• Together with the Chair maintain careful oversight of any risk to reputation and/or financial standing of the organisation.
• Receive regular informal progress reports of the organisation’s financial performance through the CEO and Chair.

Board Member

As a member of the Board, you will be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation, developing its aims, objectives and goals in accordance with company guidelines, legal and regulatory guidelines, you will help to protect the wealth and assets of the organisation.

Responsibilities:

Ensuring that the organisation complies with internal policy and legislation.

Making sure that the organisation pursues defined goals in line with its stated objectives.

Monitoring the financial position and ensuring that the organisation operates within its means and that there are clear lines of accountability for financial management

Ensuring that the resources of the organisation are used only to pursue legitimate objectives. Contributing to the Board's role of providing strategic direction and supporting the development of policies, goals and targets.

Maintaining the good name of the organisation. Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation. Participating in working groups as necessary.

Attending seminars and networking events when required.

Leading discussions and providing guidance on new initiatives, particularly in areas where the member has specific skills, knowledge or expertise.

Maintaining confidentiality about any sensitive or confidential information Regularly attending and taking a full part in meetings.

Skills and qualifications:

Commitment to the goals and aims of the organisation.

Dedication to the role and a willingness to devote the required time. Understanding the importance of carrying out required legal duties. Proven strategic abilities that can be used to create effective plans.

Strength of character coupled with the ability to voice concerns and opinions. Proven experience working as a member of successful teams.

Integrity and objectivity which can be applied to all aspects of the role.

We are particularly interested in applicants who have professional backgrounds in Performance and Insight, LGBT Housing and Governance but welcome applications from anyone with the passion and commitment to our cause.

Meetings are held either in a Central London venue or over Microsoft teams, on weekday evenings once a quarter.

The AGM is held in October and we usually have one strategy day a year in the spring.

We are looking for editors, proofreaders, and typists to support young people's stories!

You do not have to be a published writer, just have lots of enthusiasm for creative writing and young people. Super Power Agency volunteers come from every walk of life. Some want to give back to their local community, others want to gain experience in publishing and some just want to help out!

All of the work our young writers do is published into a book of some form.

If you’d like to be involved but find it difficult during typical school hours, then the Extraordinary League of Editors, Proofreaders, Helpers And Nifty Typists (E.L.E.P.H.A.N.T.) might be the editing collective for you! This is back-end remote volunteering, and is integral to publishing the young writers’ work.

The writing is split up into batches, each taking approximately one hour, and you are welcome to do as many or as few as your schedule allows!

About Super Power Agency

Founded in 2016, The Super Power Agency aims to improve the lives and literacy rates of some of Edinburgh's most under-resourced young people. Through a range of writing workshops, interdisciplinary creative programmes and the help of community volunteers, we aim to empower children and young people (8-18 years) through literacy. We are currently working with Leith Academy, with plans to expand to other schools and youth-serving organisations in Edinburgh and beyond.

Cleaning and processing non-clothing stock

Generating add-on sales and Gift Aid conversion through high levels of customer service

How much time do I need to commit?

Do you want to help us end the abuse of animals raised for food? In this flexible role, you will create change for animals by attending in-person events and taking campaign actions from home at a time that works for you.

As a Campaign Volunteer, you will help us drive change for farmed animals by: 

• Joining us for in-person events locally, and nationally (this may include peaceful protests, public outreach and informal meet-ups). All relevant expenses will be paid.

• Taking part in campaign actions from home including writing emails and letters, making phone calls and social media actions

• Connecting with your MP to campaign for change

• And more! 

Gain fantastic transferable experience and build your advocacy skills in this flexible and rewarding role. You will be working directly with THL UK staff members who will steward and support you throughout your time with us. You will also have access to exclusive training opportunities to further your animal advocacy development, as well as a full onboarding process to get you started.

Our team is based all over the UK, so we’re set up to provide you with a great experience no matter where you’re based. We cover expenses to join us at in-person events, so you can be based anywhere and still get involved. No prior experience is required, we’ll give you everything you need. There is no set time commitment, but roughly 2-4 hours a month is average for this role, depending on how much you choose to get involved with.

In terms of the role, The Planet Life is at a critical stage in its development and requires funding to expand its innovative sustainability initiatives. We are looking for a proactive, motivated individual who can curate a list of relevant grants, take ownership of the grant writing process, and collaborate closely with the founder to submit compelling applications. What You’ll Do:

• Research and curate a list of potential grant opportunities, especially from Innovate UK or similar sources
• Write high-quality, persuasive grant applications with input from the founder

The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) charity are seeking new Trustees to join our Board to support the important work of enabling generalist frontline teams improve care for people nearing the end of life. We are seeking in particular, new Trustees who have business development, finance, charity or fundraising expertise or experience, who might be interested in this area, as well as others interested in social care, education or palliative or end of life care.

The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Centre recently celebrated 25 years of work improving end of life care given by generalist frontline teams. GSF is the leading provider of training in end of life care for generalist front line staff across health and social care. We have trained and accredited thousands of teams, influenced national policy and practice and GSF has improved the care for many millions of people and their families.

Much has been achieved but there is still more to do ... We have a bold and exciting vision to ensure that everyone experiences Gold Standard end of life care. We want to see a big increase in the number of people that are trained, and we want to influence policy to make Gold Standard end of life care a requirement. We have recently become a CIO charity and as we enter a new chapter of our story, we are seeking new trustees to help us to achieve our vision and contribute to our strategic purpose. 

Could you help us achieve these goals? We are a small team and value the contribution of our trustees, partners, associates and professional reference groups. Trustees will typically attend 4-6 online board meetings a year, along with other communications and support between meetings, plus occasional strategy away days.

Role Overview:

Join our dedicated team at Abbey Community Centre to help combat food insecurity in our community. As a Community Food Club Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that food donations are efficiently received, sorted, and distributed to local elderly people and families with young children aged 5 and under. Your efforts will directly contribute to providing much-needed support to those experiencing food insecurity.

Key Responsibilities:

Receiving Food Deliveries:

  - Welcome and assist delivery drivers.

  - Check and record the received items against delivery notes.

  - Ensure all food items are handled and stored according to safety guidelines.

Sorting and Bagging Food Donations:

  - Sort donated food items by type and ensure they meet quality standards.

  - Organize and pack food items into bags or boxes for distribution.

  - Ensure that the right quantity and variety of food is packed for each family and elderly recipient.

Distribution Preparation:

  - Help set up the distribution area.

  - Ensure all packed bags are ready for distribution days.

  - Assist in maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Record Keeping:

  - Help maintain accurate records of food received and distributed.

  - Assist with inventory management to track stock levels.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  - Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

  - Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.

  - Physical ability to lift and carry bags/boxes of food.

  - Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting the privacy of recipients.

Desirable:

  - Previous experience in a similar role or in food handling.

  - Knowledge of food safety standards.

  - Basic record-keeping skills.

EVENTS VOLUNTEER (Guildford & Epsom Branch)

We are the RSPCA and it's our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion. Our volunteers are incredible and play an absolutely essential role in helping us carry out our important animal welfare work every day. Much of the RSPCA’s direct animal welfare work is carried out through the branches. These separately registered charities across England and Wales are run by volunteers who are unstinting in their work for animal welfare.

We are looking for friendly volunteers to help fundraise at fetes, in supermarkets and other outlets to collect vital donations that enable us to continue our animal welfare work. The more volunteers we have and funds we can raise, the more animals we can help!

Overview of the opportunity

In this role, you will be the friendly face of the RSPCA, helping us raise funds for our branch at community fetes and in local high streets, supermarkets and similar outlets.

This varied role offers you the chance to experience different volunteering positions, ranging from street collections and in-store fundraising drives to attendance at local community fetes. Each of these events are equally important to raising vital funds as well as raising our profile in the community.

Volunteering at events offers you the opportunity to meet other volunteers and learn about how you each support the RSPCA. You will most likely meet animals that we have rehomed and hear about their adoption journey.

If you have a relaxed dog that likes meeting people, you are welcome to bring them along with you to street collections and fundraising drives as this is always a conversation starter!

Location is dependent on the event at which you choose to volunteer, you will be out in the community in the local area

What you will be doing

(this list is not exhaustive but gives an idea of some of the tasks that you may be required to assist with.)

• Street collections and fundraising drives: standing with a collection bucket, greeting members of the public and thanking them for any donations.
•  Fetes and fairs: potentially assisting with set up or pack away, handling money from sales of chatting to members of the public and thanking them for any purchases they make.
•  Helping seek out event opportunities and organising them.

• No experience is necessary as we will provide you with the guidance you need.
•  Reliability and commitment.
•  Good organisational and communication skills.
•  Enjoy working with the general public.
•  Enthusiasm and passion for the work of the RSPCA.
•  We ask for a minimum of one hour of your time - we recommend a maximum of 2 hours at any one event as you will be standing.
•  You will need to be aged 18 years old or over to volunteer in this role unless you can be accompanied by an adult.
