Electrical Items Tester Volunteer -New Volunteer Oppportunity in Acorn's Children's Hospice Superstore - opening soon in Tewkesbury!
Acorns have a network of shops across the West Midlands that generate a substantial level of income to enable us to care for children and their families. Our empowered Electrical Items Tester Volunteers support by making sure that all our donated electrical items are fully functional and safe for sale. Full training will be provided and ongoing support will be given for this hands-on position.
How much time will it take?
Our shops are open Monday to Saturday (some open on Sundays too), 9am to 5pm. You can volunteer the hours that suit you, but ideally we’ll need you to volunteer for at least 3 hours per week. Stair Rail Installation Volunteer (Home Falls Prevention HFP) - Ad Hoc

About the Service
Age UK Birmingham’s Home Falls Prevention team provides older people with services to stay confident and mobile within their own homes which is achieved by visiting clients to advise on minimizing falls within their home and changes that can be made. This will also help with their mobility, confidence and increase wellbeing.
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable volunteer that is confident in and has experience with DIY tasks. The role is specifically to support our Home Falls staff member who leads the installation of stair rails. There is currently one other volunteer in the team and due to service demands, we seek the support of another.
Experience with carpentry or handy-man roles is ideal.
In this role, you will:
- Undertake Age UK Birmingham and Age UK Sandwell induction programme and additional relevant training where required
- Assist in the installation of stair rails with associated tasks
- Carry and take care of tools and equipment
- Keep accurate and confidential records
- Report any concerns following home visits to the manager of HFP
- Attend team meetings when required

Outreach Support Liaison
Helping our Trustees and Outreach Workers with the production of our events and publicity materials. This may include liaising with partner organisations providing services and events for older people and printers producing our brochures, programmes and leaflets. It can also include preparing and distributing individual tea packs when we do a tea at home event aimed at the housebound.
Event Companion
Our research has shown that for many isolated older people having a companion can make it easier to take the first steps to join local events and organisations. Our companions help older people by accompanying them to a few events and helping them meet with other people so that their confidence is developed. This role requires a DBS certificate.
Transport
Our research has shown that getting to events is difficult in our rural area. Buses services, when available, often do not run to timetables that allow easy attendance at events. So, our Transport Volunteers provide a pickup and return service. Transport Volunteers need to have a suitable vehicle and also hold a DBS certificate.
Exhibition Support
Silver Salisbury Group often attends events to promote our work. We always need volunteers to help run the stand. This involves helping set up and take down of the stand, dealing with the public, selling jams and other items to raise funds. Venues are various and can be indoors or outdoors. Volunteers work as part of a team on the day.
Baking
Silver Salisbury Group hosts many tea parties as part of its programme and is always looking for volunteers able to provide cakes and savouries for such events. These are not sold but we particularly welcome contributions from bakers who are able to list ingredients so we can avoid any danger to those with food allergies or dietary requirements.
Brochure Distributors
We need to deliver our printed programmes, newsletters and leaflets. We would love to hear from individuals or groups who might be able to help with this occasional distribution task.
We promote local groups and activities where older people will get a warm welcome in Salisbury, Amesbury, Downton and Wilton and the surrounding areas

As a Tour Guide at Historic Croydon Airport, you will be at the forefront of delivering an engaging and informative experience to our visitors. Community Education delivers free confidence-building workshops to young people, and we would love for you to help us in our mission to empower communities to become more resilient.
Ideally you would be able to volunteer for 8 hours per month and can volunteer with us for 12 months.

The impact a volunteer telephone befriender can have on a lonely individual is amazing and for many of our service users our volunteer telephone befrienders are the only people in their lives who can offer quality time for a nice chat. With just one hour of your time per week you can help provide companionship and support for someone suffering from chronic loneliness.
You will have to complete a DBS check and an Adult’s Safeguarding training, both covered by our organisation.
For this role volunteers will gain:

Time Commitment
Volunteers can give a minimum of 1 hour per week and must commit to a minimum of 3 months. However, the longer you commit to this role the more you will benefit.
Training

Level 2 Safeguarding adults
We offer ongoing supervision and regular catch ups with team members. The volunteer has the opportunity to meet with fellow volunteers for monthly or bimonthly zoom events.
Is a DBS Check required?

We require all applicants to provide two references. DBS is required for this role, but the cost will be provided by the Dialogue Society

A bit about this role
Our Cats Protection shops play a key part in raising the funds needed to help thousands of cats and kittens each year. Our shop assistant volunteers help with all aspects of the day to day running of one of our fantastic shops. They serve customers, help with stock rotation, create displays - and everything in between! They are part of a passionate retail team that make sure our shops are enjoyable places for customers to visit, leading to repeat custom and vital funds being raised to help our feline friends in need.

Time expectation
Our volunteer shop assistants usually spend 1 to 2 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.
