Position Title: Volunteer Pilot (Cyclist for an Electric Tandem Bike)

About Us:

Chat-e-Cycle C.I.C. is a community interest company dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults through social cycling. We use a side-by-side electric tandem bike to support individuals travel to appointments, run errands, experience the outdoors and enjoy social outings. We have partnered with the Active Ways as part of their social prescribing scheme and improving access to active transport in Bath and North East Somerset, and the Somer Valley. 

Role Overview:

We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic cyclists to volunteer with us. As a Volunteer Cyclist, you will cycle alongside older adults using our electric tandem bikes, providing support and offering an eco-friendly transport option.

Key Responsibilities:

Training and volunteer induction will help you to meet the requirements below:

• Safely operate a side-by-side electric tandem bike to take older adults to appointments, shops, social events, as well riding with those who enjoy cycling for fun! 

• Ensure a positive and comfortable experience for passengers throughout the ride.

• Following safety protocols and basic bike checks to ensure the safe operation of the bike. These will be covered during induction training

About you: 

• We see it as an advantage if you are an experienced cyclist with a good understanding of cycling on roads +/- bike operation and maintenance.

• You are friendly and approachable, with strong communication skills and experience working with people.

• You can be adaptable to meet the needs of the person you are cycling with. 

• You have availability to volunteer approximately once a week (weather dependent). Flexible schedules are also preferable.

Application Process:

• Initial Stage: send us an email to express your interest in volunteering with us and a bit about you 

• Second Stage: We will then contact you back to arrange a telephone call to discuss the role in more detail and to help answer any queries. 

• Final stage: If successful, participate in induction sessions including competencies with the bike and ensuring you feel confident and happy on the roads. As part of our requirements, we will also need to do a DBS check on any new volunteers.

Duration/Time Commitment:

• Flexible scheduling options to fit your availability, with a commitment to regular volunteering if possible.
