WHO WE ARE
Causeway is a national charity that exists to create lasting change for marginalised and vulnerable people. This includes survivors of modern slavery and those caught in cycles of exploitation and crime. We have been supporting thousands of individuals to make progress and thrive for more than 10 years, and we currently work with over 2,000 services users each year. We offer a person-centred approach to trauma support, so that those on their recovery journey feel seen and heard, but not judged or defined by their experiences.
ROLE SUMMARY
How this role fits into the vision and objectives of Causeway
LifeSupply provides material items to survivors of modern slavery. This includes toiletries, bedding, clothes, phones, furniture, personal care items, household essentials, food, toys and gifts. Over £100,000 worth of items were distributed in 2023.
The department receives lots of donations such as such as bedding, clothing and toiletries. We then receive around 10-20 orders from survivors weekly who are in need of these essential items, however we are limited in how many orders we can fulfil due to staff time restraints. We are therefore looking to hire a committed and responsible volunteer to help with this.
As a LifeSupply volunteer, you will assist in organising these incoming donations and packing orders to distribute out to survivors. You will have the opportunity to directly impact the lives of survivors as they take steps towards independence and integration.
What you can expect from volunteering at Causeway
As an organisation we are committed to supporting your success and providing you with a wealth of skills, training and opportunities to enhance your volunteering experience. These will include:
- Regular accredited and in-house training on specialist subjects such as trauma, mental health, safeguarding, working with addictions and much more
- Group Supervision every 6 weeks with qualified therapists
- Support via Staff Networks including an LGBTQ+ staff network
WHAT OUR STAFF SAY ABOUT WORKING WITH US
We pride ourselves on our employee job satisfaction. 100% of people in our 2021 staff survey feel that Causeway positively impacts the lives of our clients and 97% of our staff would recommend working at Causeway to others like them.
Working for Causeway is working in an environment where you can share your ideas. It’s great when your employer hears and sees you, you feel valued and it encourages you to succeed. By having an employer who gives you the tools to reach your goals, makes you more driven and focused on your work. Also, at Causeway I feel part of a team that provides an environment in which vulnerable adults feel safe and valued it is the most rewarding job you could have."

Foundations is generating and championing actionable evidence that improves services to support family relationships. Could you lead this work as their new Chair?
Location: London
Time commitment: 1-2 days per month
Closing date: 9 a.m. Monday 19th August
Who we are.
Foundations was formed in December 2022 when The Early Intervention Foundation (EIF) and What Works for Children’s Social Care (WWCSC) formally merged, bringing together two sister organisations with a shared mission to use high-quality evidence to improve the lives of vulnerable children.
Foundations reflects the best of the two previous charities and focuses on providing support at the earliest possible stage, remaining deeply rooted in children’s social care practice. By bringing together the talents of both organisations, they have created a unified new team focused on delivering an exciting new strategy.
Over the next five years, Foundations will prioritise five major themes, with an eye always on generating actionable findings that can shape and improve services. These five areas are:
- Supporting parenting
- Strengthening family networks
- Domestic abuse
- Relationships for care experienced people and the service and practice models that underpin all of this
- Service and practice models
This strategy means that Foundations will make long-term investments to find out what works in these fields, focusing on depth over breadth.
Who we are looking for.
The Chair is central to Foundations’s work. They will lead the Board and Chief Executive to ensure Foundations is a high-impact charity, able to generate and champion actionable evidence that improves services to support family relationships for the most vulnerable children.
Foundations need a chair adept at forming and maintaining positive connections and networks in support of the work. The new Chair will be equally at home in conversation with families and frontline services as with the media, funders, or government.
The Chair needs to nurture a light-process, high-impact culture for an organisation increasingly focused and determined to generate actionable evidence about what works.
Foundations’s Chair will:
- Ensure the charity delivers the strategy that Trustees are committed to and that there is continuity in delivering a high-performance culture.
- Lead Trustees in holding the executive team to account for the charity’s mission, providing support and challenge.
- Act as a spokesperson and ambassador – representing Foundations where needed in meetings with central government officials and Ministers, chairing events and developing relationships with people who can help us achieve our impact.
- Review objectives and key results for the Chief Executive, providing coaching support, feeding back on their performance and leading on Chief Executive recruitment if there is a vacancy.
- Facilitate Trustees to actively participate, share divergent views and reach decisions as part of the organisation’s governance. Ensure that the business of Board committees is performed well by respective committee chairs.
- Chair meetings of the Board so they are conducted efficiently and effectively, ensuring that the charity is properly governed.
- Ensure the Board fulfils its duties to ensure the sound financial health of the charity and that the Board’s performance is best serving the impact Foundations is working to achieve.
The new Chair will have:
- Deep interest and personal commitment to improving the quality of foundational relationships for the most vulnerable children.
- Knowledge of the political and policy context of early intervention and children’s social care.
- Extensive experience successfully leading an organisation in a relevant field, with the ability to share this experience as a coach and mentor.
- Act as a prominent and credible public voice for a field of social policy or research and a persuasive champion for causes.
- Experience of contributing to a high-performing board and organisational governance, recognising the boundary between the role of trustees and an executive team.
- Understanding of the financial, structural, and people dimensions of leading an organisation and a commitment to a culture of excellent performance.
- Familiarity with What Works Centres and a commitment to high-quality impact evaluations, and the important role of Randomised Controlled Trials.
- Ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders across a wide range of organisations, including government, to secure sustainable funding.
- Demonstrable experience of promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.

Do you have a passion for organising social groups and meeting new people? Want a flexible voluntary role that allows you to make a difference to peoples’ lives? Then this is for you!
We are looking for volunteers who enjoy meeting and talking to new people and would be willing to help us set up a new group in their area.
What would I do?
Following the success of the new groups in Hertfordshire, we are recruiting volunteers across the country to set up new NWR groups in their area. These NWR groups will meet for conversation and informal discussions in a local cafe or pub with a set theme – this theme acts as an icebreaker and ensures that no two meetings feel the same! Themes could cover a wide range of topics and are designed to be light-hearted and an opener for conversations that could lead anywhere (and usually do!).
Your role would be to run the meetings – greeting new and existing members, ensuring that the meetings run smoothly and everyone feels welcome, included and is having fun.
You would be asked to:
• Work with NWR staff to identify which town/city to base your group in
• Consider the types of women who would be interested in your group. What would suit them in terms of the time, location and format of the meetings? How should we communicate to them about the new group? Our staff will be able to provide guidance using their wealth of experience in setting up and running groups.
• Schedule meetings and identify and arrange a suitable venue.
• Run the meetings, ensuring that everyone is made to feel welcome and has an opportunity to contribute if they want to. Promote the benefits of NWR membership.
We will:
• Offer you ideas and advice in all areas of running the meetings and managing the group.
• Write and launch a social media and marketing campaign to recruit members for your group.
• Respond to enquiries and maintain lists of those interested in attending.
The amount of time spent will vary from week to week. It is estimated that it will require 2 hours a month. The hours are flexible and can fit in with your existing commitments.
This opportunity is open to women living in the UK over the age of 18 who are able to travel to the meetings in the evening.
Travel expenses will not be reimbursed.
You will be provided with full training and support from NWR staff and will be part of a friendly and supportive network of volunteers from across the country.
Please include in your covering letter why you are interested in the role.
