Power2 is a fast growing and energetic children and young people’s charity that has supported 27,000 young people since 2001.We’re based in the North West of England and London and deliver early-intervention asset-based programmes to children and young people who have mental wellbeing challenges and are disengaged from school and more widely. We’re well-known for our award-winning Teens and Toddlers programme. 

In 2023, we launched our new five-year strategy, which entails growing our work so we can meet the needs of more children and young people. Now is an important time for our charity, and we hope that you will want to help us achieve our vision. 

As a Power2 trustee you’ll be an ambassador for the organisation and its work. You’ll share our vision of a world where all children and young people – no matter their background or challenges – can thrive and reach their full potential. 

We’re particularly seeking to appoint trustees with the following skills or background:

A skills audit of our current Board showed that we would benefit from adding to the Board trustees with experience of education leadership, fundraising/income generation, programme impact and evaluation, and HR. 

We’re recruiting for potential so learning in the role is expected, and we will support you in this by providing induction and training. We also believe that diverse voices and perspectives are crucial to our decision-making being effective and equitable, and that our Board needs to represent the breadth of our work and the people and communities we work with.

AUGIS is a surgical association for members who work within UGI surgery in the UK and we are looking for a Lay Trustee Member (who does not work in the field of surgery) to join our Council to help develop our strategy and development for both the short and long term. 

The objectives of AUGIS is to improve the delivery, the results and outcome of conditions of the oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, pancreas, liver and biliary tract requiring surgical treatment, through training objectives, fostering developments in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, promoting educational and academic objectives and liaising with other surgical and academic bodies. The establishment of high quality training programmes throughout the UK as a fundamental component of the Association’s activities.

Lay Trustee Role 

Responsibilities

• ensure that Council exercises control over the strategic direction of the AUGIS, and that the performance of the association against its strategic objectives is properly assessed on a regular basis
• ensure that the AUGIS maintains its long-term financial sustainability, safeguards its assets, and operates proper mechanisms to ensure effective internal control, risk management and value for money
• contribute to debate and to make their knowledge, insight and expertise available to Council as needs and opportunities arise
• act fairly and impartially at all times, in the interests of the AUGIS as a whole, using independent judgement and maintaining confidentiality as appropriate
• ensure AUGIS’ growth and regular review of Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity and Sustainability policies and strategy
• ensure that the AUGIS conducts its affairs in accordance with its status as a charity and its public benefit objectives
• accept collective responsibility for the decisions reached by Council.

Expectations:

The Lay Trustee member of Council, acting in a non-executive capacity, are expected to:

• attend meetings of Council and participate in discussions, acting as a “critical friend”, contributing to the development, implementation and monitoring of AUGIS strategy going forward
• question intelligently, debate constructively, challenge rigorously and decide dispassionately, listening respectfully to the views of others, inside and outside meetings of the Executive/Council
• serve as a Trustee and attend meetings of at least two Council Meetings per year and when requested Executive Meetings
• attend some of the formal or informal events of the AUGIS, as may be organised from time to time
• act as an ambassador for the AUGIS, promoting its activities in the wider community including, for example, assisting with legacy activity and corporate interaction
• attend any induction and training as may be required by the AUGIS to carry out effectively the role of a member of Council
• contribute to regular reviews of the effectiveness of Council, both collectively and individually
• submit an annual Register of Interests and Statement of Edibility declaration, and ensure that the AUGIS is notified promptly of any material changes to these details as may arise during the year.

Practicalities of Appointment

Term of office: Three years.

Time commitment: Estimated to total the equivalent of 3-5 full days per year, including any involvement in the work of relevant Council committees.

Remuneration: Appointments to Council are in the nature of public service appointments and no remuneration is made.

Expenses: Lay members of Council are eligible to claim reimbursement of travelling expenses for attendance at meetings of Council and any committee or other body to which they are appointed. In addition to the above, travelling expenses will also be reimbursed in respect of any necessary duties arising from membership of Council or other bodies. This would include, for example, fact-finding visits to another institution, participation in induction and development events, and attendance at briefing meetings with officers. All claims will be dealt with on the same terms and conditions as apply to AUGIS staff.

Environment and Sustainability Lay Member role description:

The Association is seeking to appoint a lay member with expertise in the environment and sustainability to join its Safety, Standards, Environment and Sustainability Committee which plays a key role in the driving the sustainability strategy and workstream for the organisation.

The committee actively promotes safe, carbon friendly healthcare across the profession and internationally. It has supported a national fellowship in environmentally sustainable anaesthesia in partnership with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, and offers awards to recognise excellence in sustainability in the specialty.

The Association also supports a network of environment champions across hospitals in the United Kingdom and Ireland to encourage collaboration and share examples of best practice. Alongside the Greener NHS Team, the Association is part of a joint task group to achieve the goals related to anaesthesia that have been set out in the NHS long term plan, of which a particular focus is reducing the impact of anaesthetic gases. In January 2023 a joint statement was issued with NHS England (NHSE) and the Royal College of Anaesthetists supporting NHSE’s plan to decommission desflurane by early 2024. Work continues on reducing nitrous oxide waste.

Lay members bring expertise, judgment and balance which complement the skills of the elected directors and trustees. Their principal assets will be their independence and non-clinical expertise.

Purpose of the role:

We are keen to appoint a lay member with a background in one or more of the following areas:

• Environment and sustainability in a public or charity sector context.
• Patient and public advocacy and engagement in the environment.
• The use of advocacy in political and media arenas.
• Evaluation and impact measurement relating to environment and sustainability including the use of high-quality science

• Some correspondence in between meetings is likely

Terms and conditions of appointment:

• Appointments are for an initial one year term, renewable for up to four years in total.

• The lay member must complete a declaration of conflicts of interest

Art History Link-Up is looking for a new Secretary Trustee to join the Board.

Our small Board currently comprises ten dedicated individuals, between them holding broad experience across several sectors and disciplines.

Secretary

• An individual with a legal background, or with sound knowledge of the area who can take the lead on compliance issues relating to constitutional, legal, regulatory and statutory requirements.

The Board of Trustees has responsibility for:

• Providing strategic oversight and leadership, ensuring that Art History Link-Up pursues its stated objectives.

The Trustee Board is crucial to the successful running of the Home-Start Southwark. The Board, in partnership with the CEO and senior executive team, ensures that the organisation operates effectively, setting its strategic vision and supporting the delivery of business plans and key objectives. The Treasurer role is to oversee the charity’s financial and risk management processes; monitor the charity’s income, outgoings and cash-flow forecasting; and maintain a strategic overview of the organisation’s financial resources.

This is a varied and interesting role in which you will play an important part in supporting ETS and its growth. The Fundraising Officer will develop and coordinate our community fundraising (individual giving and events) and support the Director/ Trustee in charge of Strategy and Fundraising, with running other fundraising applications where applicable.

Trustee and you would be joining the Board at an exciting time as we have launched the charity’s Strategic Plan with a new CEO supported by a small but strong team, which we will be building further this year. As a Dog A.I.D. Trustee you would be using your skills and experience to support our charity in achieving its ambitious strategic growth targets over the coming years and guiding its transition to becoming a larger, more robust charity with increased profile and reach.

Dog A.I.D. empowers physically disabled people by coaching them to train their own pet dog to become an accredited Assistance Dog. By focusing on the existing pet/owner bond, outcomes for our clients include:

The Breck Foundationy was Founded in 2014 in memory of Breck Bednar, a 14-year-old boy, who was groomed and then murdered by someone he met online. We inform, educate and campaign to help young people and the wider UK public reclaim the internet from those who seek to harm others through it. Our educational programmes reach thousands of students, parents, and safeguarding professionals each year.

The Role

In this volunteer role, you'll be responsible for assisting with fundraising activities and managing grants to ensure the financial stability of the organisation. Your tasks may include researching potential donors and grant opportunities, drafting grant proposals and fundraising appeals, managing donor communications, and tracking fundraising progress.

You'll collaborate closely with the CEO and other staff members to develop strategic fundraising plans and initiatives. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to participate in donor cultivation events, networking opportunities, and other fundraising activities to support our fundraising goals.

What are we looking for?

Fundraising and Grant Management Volunteers at Breck Foundation should possess a combination of skills, experience, and qualities to effectively support our fundraising efforts.

What difference will you make?

The Breck Foundation is a charity founded by Lorin LaFave after the tragic loss of her 14-year-old son, Breck Bednar, in 2014, through online grooming. Breck was groomed while enjoying his passions of computing and gaming. We want to ensure that no child is harmed through grooming and exploitation while enjoying their time on the internet. Prevention through education is essential.

Your contributions as a Fundraising and Grant Management Volunteer will have a direct and tangible impact on the safety of children and young people online. Our trustees and non-executive directors oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that there is a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.

Just as importantly, they support and challenge the CEO and executive team in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs, to enable Thrive Social Housing and Emerging Futures CIC to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

The impact a volunteer telephone befriender can have on a lonely individual is amazing and for many of our service users our volunteer telephone befrienders are the only people in their lives who can offer quality time for a nice chat. With just one hour of your time per week you can help provide companionship and support for someone suffering from chronic loneliness. 

You will have to complete a DBS check and an Adult’s Safeguarding training, both covered by our organisation.

For this role volunteers will gain: 

• Confidence using the telephone.

• Develop interpersonal and communication skills. 

• Free Safeguarding and DBS check

Time Commitment 

Volunteers can give a minimum of 1 hour per week and must commit to a minimum of 3 months. However, the longer you commit to this role the more you will benefit. 

Training

• Level 2 Safeguarding adults 

We offer ongoing supervision and regular catch ups with team members. The volunteer has the opportunity to meet with fellow volunteers for monthly or bimonthly zoom events. 

Is a DBS Check required? 

• We require all applicants to provide two references. DBS is required for this role, but the cost will be provided by the Dialogue Society

Trustees are asked to commit to four Board meetings a year (3 hours), and an away day. The Chair would be expected to commit more time (estimated at around 1-2 days a month) to cover extra duties such as meetings with the CEO and trustees and planning and preparing for the Board meetings.

As Chair of Power2, you’ll have a passion for making a difference to the lives of children and young people.

Building relationships with the rest of our Board and our CEO will be vital to be successful in this role. Once appointed, you’ll be invited to attend a visit to one of our programmes to gain further insight into how we run our programmes and get to speak to our programme team.

Our charity is about to begin a period of transformational change.  We are in the process of recruiting our first staff-team, and are now looking for an excellent Treasurer to work with the Board of Trustees and support our new six-strong team (which will include a CEO and a Financial Controller who is an experienced and qualified charity accountant).

We are an organisation our new Treasurer will be proud to be a part of. Our current Board of Trustees are excited for our future and our members are supportive of the changes to the Society’s management structure.  For the past year we have worked closely with our Interim Managing Director and our members, Branches, Special Interest Groups and Business Groups to develop our new strategy - Working together to prevent infection.

The aim of the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) is to inform, promote and sustain evidence-based infection prevention policy and practice to create a health and care system where no person's health and wellbeing is harmed by preventable infection. 

Our broad membership includes infection control practitioners, scientists, clinicians and industry experts and we support our members via branches across the UK and Ireland.  We deliver educational opportunities to support best practice in infection prevention and control through an annual conference, study days, our academic journal, and research activity.  We support our members with a competency framework and credentialing system, international engagement opportunities and product evaluation services for industry.

The Infection Prevention Society has an independent Board of Trustees who are responsible for governance and risk management functions of the society.  These include developing long-term strategy, assuring financial stability and compliance with governing documents, and evaluating performance.  The Board works with the Management Executive Group (MEG) who are responsible for leading and managing the business activity of the Society.

Who we are looking for?

Our new Treasurer and trustee must be:

· Financially competent

· Willing to work with our staff team in managing the finances of the charity

· Willing to assist and support the IPS CEO and Audit and Finance Committee in monitoring the financial performance of the charity

As a Trustee you will be able to contribute to the work of the society by:

· Shaping the strategic direction

· Making decisions that enhance its influence

· Assuring good governance of the Society

We are looking for applicants who really want to make a positive impact on our organisation. They should have strategic vision and good judgement, an ability to think creatively, and willingness to contribute opinions and ideas.  A willingness to challenge is also desirable. An understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship is desirable although Trustees induction and training would be available. Previous experience as a Trustee is also desirable but not essential.  Although the trustee positions are unpaid, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The Board of Trustees hold a minimum of four meetings per year and trustees are also expected to attend the Annual General meeting which is held in the autumn. 

The Audit and Finance Committee hold a minimum of four meetings per year.  It is anticipated that where possible these meetings will be held virtually.
