A bit about the role

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our Fundraising Event Helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

● Help set up and/or man stalls at events

● Help on collection days like supermarket collections events or street collections

● Help at fundraising events such as Quiz nights, cake sales and dances

● Promoting a professional image of Cats Protection at events

However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

Please note: volunteers must be local to Hackney. We cannot assist people to travel to the UK.

Purpose of the Role

We support a young man with learning disabilities and mobility issues who would love to be matched with a volunteer who can take him swimming once a week! By taking him to the pool, you will not only be facilitating an enjoyable experience, but you will also help him to get the low-impact exercise that is so important for mitigating the physical symptoms of his condition.

You will be accompanied at all times by a support worker, except whilst you are in the water. 

Responsibilities

• Meet your befriending match and their support staff at the service and travel to the pool by bus
• Swim with them in the shallow end of the community swimming pool
• Providing companionship and friendship

• You are a competent swimmer
• Experience communicating with people who are non-verbal or have different communication needs is an asset
• You are friendly and have strong interpersonal skills
• You are passionate about making a difference in the lives of older people, people with learning disabilities, and/or people with autism spectrum disorder

Time Commitment

• We would like somebody to start as soon as possible
• We encourage you to commit to a minimum of four months as a befriender, however an ongoing commitment is ideal

We are looking for ambitious and passionate Trustees to join our Team at Advicenow at a time of growth for the charity but also substantial social and economic challenges for our beneficiaries.

Advicenow has been providing legal support to individuals and communities since 2011. We provide routes to access to justice for people who are otherwise unable to secure basic rights and entitlements to their income, their home and to protect their families. We have a strong track record in leading technological innovation, and educational and research design to tackle legal needs at scale.

As a member of the board you will ultimately be responsible for the overall direction, vision and strategy of Law for Life. We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Trustee to work alongside the Chair, Board and CEO to ensure sound growth, strategic development and the ability to manage scale.

You will have the ability to innovate, to think strategically, while demonstrating sound judgement. You will help us to move on to the next stage of our three year strategic plan We are looking to appoint individuals who share our values in social justice and legal empowerment and would like to become involved.

About Been There

Been There is a growing UK charity that aims to unlock the powerful role peer support can play in supporting mental health across the nation. We provide a free, confidential Peer-to-Peer support for people over 18.

To-date, the service has connected 300 people (Mentees) struggling with body image challenges and eating disorders with vetted, trained and clinically supervised volunteer “Peer Mentors”.

We have an unwavering focus on the safety and wellbeing of our Mentors and Mentees and are deeply committed to maximising the impact of our service through iterative data-driven learning. We plan to expand our service to support people struggling with other challenges including, for example, anxiety, OCD, depression, and grief.

Summary: Advisory Board

The Advisory Board will compromise of 4-5 experienced clinicians who, together, will provide clinical assurance of the training, safeguarding, supervision, and operational processes for the Been There service, and ensure the charity works from, and contributes to, the growing evidence base on the power of peer support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clinical and professional expertise: Provide expert advice and recommendations on clinical practices, peer support methodologies, and safeguarding protocols to ensure the charity operates within the highest ethical and professional standards.
• Review and verification: Check and verify processes, training materials, safeguarding policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and best-practice standards.
• Strategic guidance: Offer strategic advice to support the development and growth of Been There’s programs and services.
• Collaborative support: Work with the charity’s leadership to identify potential risks, improve processes, and address challenges related to training, service delivery, and safeguarding.
• Advocacy and networking: Advocate for Been There’s mission and connect the charity with relevant networks, funding opportunities, and professional bodies.

Expectations & Commitment:

• Meetings: The Advisory Board will meet quarterly, with additional ad hoc meetings or consultations as necessary. Meetings may take place virtually or in person, depending on availability and need.
• Engagement: Members are expected to work collaboratively as a group, while also providing individual support to the charity when required. This may include: reviewing materials; providing guidance on urgent matters; or participating in specific projects.
• Newly formed group: As this is a newly established board, members will help shape the structure and operation of the Advisory Board, contributing to its development and long-term effectiveness.

Expertise we are seeking:

• Senior-level experience as a psychiatrist or psychologist in mental health, either in private practise or NHS.
• Peer support understanding and advocacy.
• Expertise in safeguarding, process design, or training delivery is highly desirable.
• Passion for Been There’s mission to support individuals through lived experience.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
• Willingness to commit time and expertise to the charity’s success.

About the role: Clinical Trustee:

We are seeking dedicated Clinical Trustee to join the Board and help shape the future and play an integral role in chairing and leading the Clinical Advisory Board. As a Trustee, you will be part of shaping the strategy, ensuring compliance, and supporting the charity's growth. These are hands-on roles for individuals ready to bring their skills and passion to a growing organisation.

Trustees will share responsibility for directing the affairs of Been There and help guide the charity’s governance, strategy, and financial oversight to ensure our mission thrives. Individuals will bring a willingness to engage beyond board meetings, to support growth and to commit 12–24 months as a trustee.

We are looking for two Governors for our voluntary-aided boys’ school who care deeply about transforming the lives of young people through education in some of the most disadvantaged and ethnically diverse communities in the UK.

What will you be doing?

About You

Applicants must have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the governing body’s work to help improve outcomes for students. Successful candidates will:

• be a member of the governing body
• join one additional sub-committee (Teaching & Learning; Pay & Personnel; Finance; or Pastoral, Premises, Health & Safety) 
• act as link governors for one faculty (Link governors act as liaison between the governing body and a particular faculty)
• participate in a range of other ad hoc circumstances where governor involvement is necessary (e.g. periodic meetings with students, staff and parents that usually take place during the day).

Time Commitment

Governors usually spend ~20 hours per term on core governing duties. Successful candidates would be expected to attend up to 4 governing body/committee meetings a term, which usually take place on a Thursday (late afternoon/early evening). They would also need to allow time to read papers and prepare for meetings. The link governor role involves spending one morning or afternoon in school during the year, meeting with the faculty lead and visiting classrooms. 

In addition, we are particularly looking for the successful candidate to be able to spend a further 8 – 10 hours per term on ad hoc matters requiring more 'hands on' governor involvement, including meetings with students, staff and parents which usually take place during the school day. 

Skills and Background

We are particularly interested in individuals who have had experience in law or finance or are experienced at a senior leadership level in a large company. We encourage applications from all members of society, regardless of background, gender, ethnicity, disability, or age.

Being a Foundation Governor

Governors come from a wide range of backgrounds and professions and include some appointed by the staff of the school, parents and the Islington Local Authority.  A majority of the governors are appointed by the Central Foundation Schools of London. As an Educational Charity we support two schools in inner London, the Boys' School and also the Central Foundation Girls' School in Tower Hamlets. This appointment will be a joint appointment by the Foundation and the boys' school governing body.

Training on the of role of governor will be provided for the successful candidates.

The Role

As a Flyer Distributor you will play a crucial role in helping to raise awareness about our services and events within the Enfield community. You will be responsible for disseminating promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, and event announcements to various locations within the Enfield area.

• Distribute promotional materials provided by Age UK Enfield to designated locations across the Enfield area. This may include community centers, libraries, local businesses, healthcare facilities, and other relevant locations.
• Engage with members of the public in a friendly and courteous manner while distributing flyers. Answer any questions they may have about Age UK Enfield's services and provide basic information about upcoming events or initiatives.
• Keep accurate records of the locations visited and the quantity of promotional materials distributed. Report back to the supervisor on to provide updates on distribution progress.
• Act as an ambassador for Age UK Enfield by promoting the organisation's mission, values, and services to the community. Help to increase brand recognition and visibility within the local area.

General Key Skills:

• Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
• Comfortable with walking and standing for long periods in various weather conditions.
• Maintaining professionalism and addressing public inquiries effectively.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality, with a strong sense of responsibility.

• Professional experience in working with or advising Boards on financial matters, particularly in a charity context.
• Leadership or governance experience in charity & non-for-profit, justice & human rights, health, or technology sectors.
• People with lived experience of legal, social, or financial challenges similar to those faced by Advicenow’s service users, offer a first-hand perspective on their needs and barriers to access.

Citizens Advice Plymouth employs 180 staff and has 50 volunteers, who work both locally and nationally to support people who have problems with debt, housing, welfare benefits, employment and many other advice areas.

We can all face problems that seem complicated and intimidating. At Citizens Advice Plymouth, we believe that no one should have to face these problems without good quality, independent advice.

The Board of Trustees has an interesting and challenging task to ensure that the governance and finances of the charity are correct and to advise and support the senior leadership team

The Role

We currently have 9 Trustees and are looking to strengthen our Board of Trustees with 2 new Trustees, who can use their professional and lived experiences, skills and talents to contribute to the on-going success of the Charity. We are specifically seeking individuals who offer experience in one or more of the following areas:

- Chair designate to take over from the current Chair once inducted and has a full understanding of the organisation. We expect that to take approximately 6-12 months depending on time commitments.

- Finance and accounting (not necessarily within a charitable setting, but this would be beneficial) in order to succeed our current Treasurer in 2 years’ time.

- Leadership experience within a charitable organisation

- Previous experience as a Trustee or governor

- Local involvement in the City of Plymouth

USPG is looking to appoint 3 Trustees (lay or ordained) committed to global mission within the Anglican Communion. At this time, we are seeking to appoint a qualified accountant and two trustees with significant regional knowledge (Caribbean/ Latin America, Middle East, East Asia or Africa) to serve from July 2025.

About You

In recruiting Trustees at this time, we are looking for individuals with the following skill sets and experience:

• Accountancy: A qualified accountant with current experience of scrutinising accounts of organisations of the scale of USPG (at least) is sought. The person appointed will become a member of USPG’s Finance & Audit Committee as well as contribute to the strategic discussions of the Trustee board.
• Global knowledge and understanding: A couple of trustees with significant regional knowledge, especially of the Caribbean/Latin America, but also of the Middle East, Asia or Africa. That understanding may come from working with the churches or from professional experience outside of the Church.

The role is not paid, but necessary expenses incurred for attending USPG meetings will be reimbursed.

We are seeking to recruit a Vice Chair and four Trustees to join us to help us achieve our ambitious goals for a fairer and more effective criminal justice system.

The Criminal Justice Alliance (CJA) is a network of 200+ organisations and academics working towards a fair and effective criminal justice system. Working with our members, the CJA brings together a broad and diverse range of expertise across the sector, championing and elevating the voices of those directly impacted by the criminal justice system. 

We are in an exciting time of growth and development as we continue our ambitious and much-needed work, focusing on systemic change, constructive criminal justice journalism, race equity and lived experience leadership. 

The CJA is committed to achieving greater diversity in its trustees and staff, particularly as there are issues affecting individuals from non-majority backgrounds across the criminal justice system. We actively encourage applications from minority ethnic communities and people with protected characteristics. We also welcome applications from younger people and from first-time trustees.

This is a voluntary role without remuneration. However, travel expenses as well as other reasonable and necessary costs incurred (including childcare), as part of official Trustee business, will be reimbursed. We will also provide suitable training and mentorship for first-time Trustees.
