We are BrightPIP, and we’re looking for our next Trustee.

Do you share our view that every baby deserves to grow up feeling safe, healthy, and loved? Do you understand how charities work? Are you good at leading small teams? 

We are now looking for an additional trustee to help drive the charity forward so it can help more babies and families. 

We would be interested to hear from people who have skills in the following areas to support our organisational growth and development: fundraising, marketing and communications or clinical delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Offer expertise in your specialist area of fundraising, marketing and communications or clinical delivery.
• Support trustees to get involved in the areas where they can best contribute; and help recruit new trustees to fill skills gaps. 
• Help us to adopt best practice governance for a charity of our size and ambition.
• Act as a sounding board and critical friend for the Clinical Director.
• Represent the charity at occasional external meetings and events.
• Ensure timely decision making in between meetings where needed.

Skills and experience

We are looking for someone with experience of being a charity trustee who knows the charity sector.

Their small but energetic team of volunteer Trustees enable people to protect the countryside they love and enjoy the benefits it brings wherever they live. But with your support, they can do even more!

In joining them as a Trustee on the Board, you’ll have a general role in developing the charity in line with their strategy and, together with other Trustees, ensuring compliance with Charity Commission and other legal and governance regulations. However, additionally, as their Lead for Supporter Development, you will use your specialist knowledge to inform and guide the Trustee Board in this area and coordinate and drive forward related activities to meet agreed aims. As part of this remit, you will also oversee the recruitment of a Communications and Supporter Care Officer (a brand new role) and have ongoing responsibility for communicating organisational requirements and providing feedback to the individual once engaged.

+Trustees initially serve a three-year term and may serve up to six years in total.

What they need and what’s in it for you

You don’t need to have prior Trustee experience, but they are looking for applicants with manager/senior-level expertise in Supporter Development/Fundraising. By volunteering with them, you’ll be using what you know to help find positive solutions for the major issues facing the countryside and the environment, as well as being part of a group of people who share your passion for the countryside. Their friendly team will provide you with initial training and support to develop in your role. You’ll gain valuable skills and experience in charity governance and leadership.

At the Mental Health Foundation, we are preparing to strengthen our Board with several new Trustee appointments. These are voluntary positions which will bring you a rewarding experience and an opportunity to help the Foundation deliver its mission. The roles are part-time, with attendance required at various meetings throughout the year.

Luminus Non-Executive Director opportunity

Luminus is a Surrey-based Community Interest Company (CIC) which exists to make sure those voices are heard. We are now seeking new Non-Executive Directors to help guide the next stage of our growth. Gingerbread is the charity for single parents. We challenge discrimination, and campaign against the inequalities single parents face. We are seeking a Treasurer to join our Board. This is an exciting opportunity to join a passionate and inclusive organisation making a real difference to single-parent families across England and Wales.

What will you be doing?

Our Board combines their skills and experience to provide stewardship to Gingerbread and its staff.

The role of Treasurer is to enable the board to maintain an overview of Gingerbread’s affairs, ensure its financial viability and ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.

Trustees generally meet for full Board meetings a minimum of five times a year. Each of these meetings is two hours long. Trustees would need to allow for preparation time ahead of these meetings. We estimate there would be 2 hours of work a month outside of Board meetings.

What are we looking for?

The Treasurer should have the following qualities: 

· A commitment to Gingerbread’s work and mission

· Financial qualifications and experience 

· Some experience of charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes 

· The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences 

· Being prepared to make unpopular recommendations to the board 

· A willingness to be available to staff and trustees for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis

The Housing and Welfare team is a fast-paced team which works to make sure that all of our clients have safe and comfortable accommodation and are able to access any benefits to which they are entitled. People seeking asylum are restricted in the benefits they can access, if any, and their legal status determines whether or not they can engage in employment and what statutory accommodation is available for them, so the Housing and Welfare team is vital in helping HBF’s clients to navigate this system. People recently granted refugee status and those who have experienced exploitation are also at high risk of destitution, homelessness and unsuitable accommodation.

As a very busy team, our casework volunteers are invaluable, supporting the staff team on anything from liaising with statutory bodies and voluntary agencies, to drafting grant applications for individual welfare needs. To be able to meet the enormous demand for welfare and housing support, we ideally need to have volunteer support throughout the week.

Main tasks and activities

· Assisting clients to access asylum support, community care, housing, mainstream benefits, charitable support (etc.), within the remit of prevention of homelessness and destitution;

· Maintaining contact with clients within the remit of prevention of homelessness and destitution;

· Liaising with statutory bodies (Asylum Support, DWP, local authorities), solicitors and voluntary agencies to ensure client needs are met;

· Referring clients internally and externally as appropriate for specialist help with issues that fall outside the remit of the housing and welfare casework service, including health/therapeutic services, referrals to immigration/housing/community care solicitors;

· Maintaining accurate and timely client records and follow-up work;

· Other administrative duties as required, including database management and filing.

Skills and experience needed

· Understanding of, and commitment to, the objectives of the Helen Bamber Foundation;

· A demonstrable empathy for our vulnerable clients, including people seeking asylum, refugees and survivors of torture and trafficking;

· Some knowledge of the challenges facing vulnerable clients including people seeking asylum, refugees and survivors of torture, trafficking;

· Some experience in a casework and/or advice role;

· Some knowledge of the rights and entitlements of people seeking asylum and refugees;

· Some knowledge of mainstream benefits, housing, social care;

· Ability to keep up to date with legislation, case law, policies and procedures relating to welfare, housing and immigration;

· Punctual, reliable and self-motivated;

· Able to commit regularly (ideally same day each week)

· Awareness of confidentiality/data protection;

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

· Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage own time and workload, and to prioritise a range of competing demands;

· Excellent IT skills including the use of databases, email, word processing;

· Flexibility and willingness to undertake other duties as required.

· A better understanding of UK processes and systems which concern people seeking asylum and refugees (including asylum support, homelessness, welfare benefits, local authority support etc.) and what support is available;

· Increased confidence in working on a one-to-one basis with clients;

· An ability to multi-task between competing priorities;

· Experience of working with a multi-disciplinary team in a Human Rights charity.

• Providing the treasurer with information on funds raised from fundraising events

• This is a flexible role. The amount of time you offer can work to your availability and convenience.

· A good team player who can work with a small, committed Board of Trustees and Executive team.

· Existing Trustee experience is desirable but not essential.

At Doorstep Library, we’re dedicated to bringing the magic of books and the joy of reading directly into the homes of children who need our support.

With 1 in 4 children in the UK leaving primary school unable to read or write properly, we recruit and train in-person and online volunteers to introduce children from under-resourced areas to the pleasure of reading.

What’s Involved?

As a Doorstep Library reading volunteer, you’ll visit the same families via Zoom every week with eBooks to share with the children and encourage their love of reading.

You will:

• Handpick eBooks from our online portals based on the children’s age, interests, and reading level
• Join families via Zoom with your volunteer partner for 20-minute reading sessions  
• Make notes after the session to keep track of how the child/ren are progressing

Our unique home-based approach allows our volunteers to build trusting relationships with families, helping them to connect with the community and equip them with the skills they need to succeed later in life.

When and Where?

You can be based anywhere in the UK to become a Doorstep Library online volunteer.

• Time commitment: One evening a week (Regular Volunteer), one evening every other week (Semi-Regular Volunteer) or once every 3 weeks (Stand-In Volunteer) during school term times

• Days: Our projects run on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays from 4:30pm – 6:30pm

ENGINEERS/MAKERS

Across the UK, our 60+ local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge.

Our Engineer/Maker volunteers are at the very heart of what our local branches do. They use their practical skills and creativity to help people with disabilities live fuller and more independent lives.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local need shapes what you’ll be working on, but it often includes:

• Designing and making pieces of equipment for individuals with specific needs

• Using your practical skills working with metal, wood, plastic, or electronics (or a combination of them)

• Attending a monthly meeting of the local branch.

We can support you to develop the skills you need for this role, and there’s an induction that covers all the areas above. You’ll also have chance to discuss your role and any additional needs with us.

What you’ll need for this role

Essential

• Practical experience in working with one of the above materials

• Comfortable working with people, listening to them and understanding their needs

• Able to apply our risk management system

• Able to apply disability, equality, and inclusion practices

Join the leading national charity dedicated to supporting premature and sick babies, their families and NHS staff. We are recruiting for up to four new Trustees to join Bliss’ passionate and dedicated Board.

Who are we looking for?

We are recruiting up to four new Trustees to join our passionate and dedicated Board, and are keen to increase the range of voices on the Board to bring in different experiences and skills, which is essential if we are to make the best decisions for Bliss and for the babies we serve. 

You don’t need to have been a Trustee before, nor do you need to have direct neonatal experience, as long as you are passionate about improving neonatal care across the UK.

In this round of Trustee recruitment we are particularly interested in bringing the skills and experience of younger individuals (under 30), those from minority ethnic communities, and those with lived experience of or insight into socio-economic disadvantage.

We are also keen to hear from people who bring one (or more!) of the following:

• Experience of AI and data, with the ability to apply this to an organisation of Bliss’ size and scale
• Experience of marketing or branding, and the knowledge of how this applies in the context of the charitable sector
• A neonatal healthcare professional – we are particularly interested in recruiting an allied health professional / psychology professional
• A professionally qualified accountant.

Recruitment timeline

• The deadline for applications is 9am on Tuesday 13th May 2025
• Interviews will be held online in June
• Successful candidates will take part in induction meetings over the summer, before joining the Board away day in September and being formally appointed at the October 2025 Board meeting.
