Group Coordinator Volunteer Roles in Leeds

Bath Welcomes Refugees (BWR) is seeking a Volunteer who will sit on the Management Committee and be the overall Coordinator of the social events we run and social activity opportunities we are offered.

Who we are:

BWR harnesses the goodwill of the community in welcoming and supporting refugees and asylum seekers to thrive in their new community.  BWR is a small inclusive charity. Volunteer-led and non-partisan, we help refugee families out of desperate circumstances and into a promising future. Our volunteers provide hands-on support with English-language teaching, resettlement support, helping with our creche and at social events. We also have volunteers who help with employability, DIY, gardening, fundraising and more.

Expectations for this volunteer role include:

• Coordinate one of the regular monthly social groups we run.

• Maintain an overview of the other social groups and support volunteers running these.

• Respond to occasional ad-hoc offers and opportunities  regarding social, sporting and leisure activities (e.g. from theatres, universities, football clubs), coordinating activities as appropriate and depending on priority and capacity  within BWR.

• Liaison with other organisations and facilities, to support both specific BWR activities and to further social integration of our clients in community activities.

• Maintain recording systems regarding social activities.

• Be a member of the BWR Management Committee.

Your skills and experience:

• Understanding of refugee issues

• Sensitivity to other cultures

• Experience of coordinating team work and working within a team

• First aid training desirable

• Car driver/owner desirable

Time commitment:.

• Attending monthly BWR Management Committee meetings (evenings, approx 2 hours)

• Coordinating and attending monthly social group (approx 5 hours, including coordinating volunteers, setting up and clearing away)

• Wider Management Committee and BWR issues, mostly via email (variable)

• Responding to ad-hoc offers (variable)

International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals (IAPWA) was founded in 2009 and aims to provide protection and improve the welfare of animals in need. 

We have recently relaunched our Auctions for Animals online fundraising events and are searching for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team to help source donations. Ideally our volunteers will have some experience in generating donations/prizes for fundraising events, or will be happy to spread the word within your local community and collect new or preloved donations for us. 

Tasks will include:

• Identify suitable avenues for donations, creating and building relationships with our supporters and donors and helping to promote IAPWA within your local community.

• Assist with the running of our monthly auction events via our Auctions For Animals Facebook Group, eBay and Vinted shops.

Ideally you will;

• Enjoy promoting our charity within the community and help to generate a regular stream of donations. 

• Have experience of using Google Workspace or willingness to learn.

• Be able to work independently and use your own initiative.

• Offer 1-3 hours per week (hours can be fully flexible)

Age UK Notts are seeking individuals who would like to be considered as a volunteer for our Companion Service.

Volunteers will be supporting people remotely, in their own homes and in the community within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and ideally, we ask all applicants to provide a minimum of 1 hour volunteering a week.

The companion service volunteer can choose to be:

• A companion telephone/video caller                                                               

• A companion within the person’s home

• A companion outside the person’s home

• Or a combination of all three.

Examples of the type of support the service offers include:

• Telephone / video calls for an older person/s on a regular basis at a mutually agreed time for a friendly chat. 

• Supporting an older person/s hobbies and interests or simply chatting with them in their own home on a regular basis.

• Supporting with digital access & building confidence skills & motivation to access the opportunities of the internet.

• Supporting the person outside of their home e.g., by accompanying them on a walk, to the shops, to a café, garden centre, theatre or cinema or other social activities / community groups. 

• Where appropriate, supporting the older person to access other services through information and signposting or referring to the Companion Service Coordinator for support.

We are looking for the following skills/interests:

• Individuals with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of older people who are committed to volunteering on a regular basis.

• Commitment to complete our Volunteer Report Form accurately and regularly. 

• Ability to travel for visits in the local community either by car or public transport for those volunteers who choose to participate in this type of activity.

• Digital literacy for those volunteers who choose to participate in this type of activity.

Please do note, however, that at the moment we are not looking for Volunteer Telephone Companions.

We are looking for volunteers with good daytime availability in specific areas of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire which are currently NG5, NG13 and NG19

About us

At The Catalyst Collective, we believe that mentoring can be a powerful intervention in the lives of young women. Since 2021, we’ve recruited, trained, matched and supported professional Black women with Black teenagers for year-long mentoring relationships.

What we’re looking for

As we prepare to launch our newest cohort in September and October 2024, we’re looking for Black women who are able to commit at least 1 hour per month for mentoring. Mentors can work in any professional fields.

Please note this is not a paid position and we do not charge mentees to participate in our programmes.

As we offer training and support to all mentors, you do not need prior experience as a mentor to volunteer with us.

Your role as a mentor

As a mentor, you’ll play a key role in supporting Black female students in years 9 to 13 to achieve their goals.

How it works

Mentoring pairs meet once a month virtually (using our mentoring platform or over Zoom/MS Teams/Google Meet) and these meetings typically last for 1 hour. The mentoring journey kicks off with a virtual Mentor Match session with other mentoring pairs on the cohort.

All mentoring pairs are allocated a Mentoring Coordinator who is the first port of call for all questions and queries.

Mentoring Coordinators meet with mentors monthly and troubleshoot issues, provide session ideas and help to keep the relationship on track.

We also plan group trips and events based around a range of themes to complement 1:1 sessions.

Application Process

As part of our application process, you’ll have an informal interview with a member of The Catalyst team.

If selected as a mentor, you’ll need to undergo a DBS check and provide details of 2 character references. The cost of the DBS check is covered by The Catalyst Collective. Prior to meeting your mentee, you’ll also attend mandatory mentoring and safeguarding training.

Become a GamCare Online Peer Supporter

Make a difference by using your own experiences

For over 25 years, GamCare has been there for people experiencing gambling harms, whether that be people who gamble themselves or someone impacted by someone else’s gambling. We offer support over the phone, face-to-face or online and our treatment is free, flexible and confidential.

We are currently recruiting for Online Peer Supporters, to provide one-to-one and group support to both individuals who gamble and those affected by someone else’s gambling. Using their own experiences of gambling-related harms, volunteers will support others digitally as part of our Online Support Services and will include email support as well as facilitating our Forum and Chatrooms.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided to enable you to use your lived experience to work with our team as an Online Peer Supporter, providing support to all of those affected by gambling.

We believe that peer support is essential in the recovery journey. It provides:

• Shared understanding
• Reduces stigma
• A non-judgemental environment
• Practical insights and tools
• Continued motivation and hope

Our online platforms are designed to provide social connection to those who could be isolated or feel they have no one else to talk to. People accessing our services have identified that receiving support from someone who has had similar experiences can really benefit them when overcoming the challenges they may face on their recovery journey. It also provides a sense of community and belonging and contributes to the long-term support of those accessing these services.

Training

A comprehensive training programme will be delivered by our Lived Experience Volunteering team to provide you with the skills and confidence to use your experiences to support others while protecting your own recovery. Training includes:

• Safeguarding
• Motivational interviewing
• Facilitation skills

Role Responsibilities

Online Peer Supporters will:

• Navigate and guide contacts through existing services at GamCare and the National Gambling Support Network.
• Use motivational interviewing skills while drawing from their own lived experience to provide a supportive, non-judgemental space for those affected by gambling harms.
• Facilitate discussions via our online support services, including:

Email – you will be paired with an individual for regular email correspondence (up to 3 emails per week for 6 months)
Chatrooms – you will facilitate group discussions and supporting conversation between people at various stages of recovery
Forum – you will initiate discussions, respond to posts, and provide encouragement, signposting and support to forum users

• Help individuals set aims and goals to move to a more positive, sustained recovery whilst also providing resources to support people with these plans.
• Recognise the purpose and remit of our service and signposting to other internal and external support where appropriate.

What can I expect from GamCare?

In return, GamCare will:

Role Requirements

For any of our volunteering roles we ask that you have lived experience of gambling-related harms. This includes being affected by someone else’s gambling (friend or family member).

We ask that you’ve been in positive, sustained recovery for at least one year before volunteering with us.

This role is completely remote, so you’ll need access to a reliable internet connection, a computer and a confidential space.

Availability & Commitment

We ask that you have availability at a regular time for around 1-2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.

Before volunteering with us, you will need to complete a mixture of self-directed online training and live online group training sessions delivered by our Volunteer Coordinators over a period of approximately 4 weeks.

Bright Futures UK (BFUK) supports children and young people back into education after taking time out due to a long-term mental health or physical condition. We provide support throughout young people's treatment and recovery, making sure they aren't worried about missing school and can focus on getting better! 

We need confident volunteers to facilitate young people getting to know each other and combat social isolation through fun activity challenges, breakout conversation rooms, and online games.

What You'll Do:

• Facilitate Sessions: Lead bi-weekly, hour-long online sessions with conversation topics and activities.
• Support and Engage: Create a supportive and inclusive environment where young people feel comfortable participating and expressing themselves.
• Encourage Participation: Actively encourage all participants to join in the activities and conversations, fostering a sense of community and connection.
• Monitor Progress: Monitor the group's dynamics and the participants' well-being, providing feedback and support as needed.
• Collaborate with Team: Work with the Bright Futures UK workshop coordinator to ensure the sessions align with the organization’s mission and goals.

Details:

• Time Commitment: 1 hour bi-weekly.
• Location: Online, remote position. 
• Training: Full training provided, including safeguarding. Ideally to take place in London, however we are flexible to discuss this further if need be. 

Easy, you'll provide much needed help for our weekly sessions. This could be welcoming people, setting up session rooms, serving refreshments, playing games and quizzes, supporting people to attend, chatting to people, and making sure they feel comfortable, bits of everything. All the time you will be supported by BCF staff and encouraged to make new friendly relationships with the people we support. We run different sessions Monday to Friday allowing this volunteering to fit around other commitments you may have.
