Branch Trustee – Finance
Do you have professional expertise in finance, ideally charity finance, you could use to help a good cause? We are looking for volunteer trustees to help run our Branch and are particularly looking for those with a background in finance and accounts.
Overview of the Branch Trustee – Finance opportunity
We are interested in speaking to individuals with a strong understanding of finance and accounts who can volunteer their time and expertise to help us improve the welfare of animals.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether the trustee takes on additional duties.

Founded in 1824 we have been saving animals for almost 200 years and are proud to be the oldest welfare charity around. The RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch
The Suffolk Central Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee – Finance
- Implement and maintain sound financial systems to retain full control of branch funds.
- Take a lead role in ensuring the committee set annual financial budgets and plan the branches income and expenditure so the accounts balance in the long term.
- Provide a written financial report for each branch meeting showing the income and expenditure, since the last meeting.
- Liaise with auditors/independent examiners regarding the production of the annual branch accounts and treasurer's report for the Branch Annual General Meeting.
- Maintain control of all bank accounts as authorised by the committee.Execute and operate branch committee financial decisions and act as branch co-signatory on all branch cheques, if required.
- Maintain control over all branch paying-in books and receipt books and to ensure their correct use.
Core Branch Trustee responsibilities
- Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
- Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
- Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
- Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.
- Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support regional initiatives.
- Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.

Practical considerations

- Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to clarify that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and read the Charity Commission’s guidance for individuals on who cannot be a trustee or senior manager of a charity.

Position Overview
Based in Madagascar, this position will work across SEED’s Community Health Department including maternal and child health, SRHR and food security. We use community-led, participatory approaches, working with local communities to identify and implement projects that meet their needs and priorities. Our mission is to help and support homeless and vulnerably housed people in and around the London Borough of Merton. Company Secretary’s responsibilities:
The Company Secretary keeps the organisation legal by:
• Working with Trustees to ensure that the Charity complies with its Articles of Association, charity law, company law, employment law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
• Ensuring that the Trustees are aware of the requirement to comply with relevant codes such as the Code of Conduct for Charity Trustees and the Charities Governance Code, and that these are adhered to.
• Ensuring that the Articles of Association reflect the current work of the Charity, liaising with the Charity Commission and Companies House as appropriate if an update is needed.
• Liaison with Treasurer as needed.
• Filing annual Confirmation Statements and other Company Returns including the annual Trustees Report & Accounts with Companies House and the Charity Commission by the due dates.

• Maintaining the statutory records.

The job of the FIAMHP Secretary is to assist the Trustees in the smooth running of the organisation by:
• Organising Management Committee meetings in consultation with the Chair and other Trustees: setting meeting dates and venues; producing meeting agendas, receiving and sending out meeting notices and papers, checking that meetings are quorate, taking meeting minutes, liaising with the Chair and other Trustees as necessary; sending out draft minutes.
• Assist with liaison between Trustees, Staff and Volunteers as needed.
• Awareness of the work of the organisation and the needs of its guests and service users.
• Ensuring that decisions and actions of the Board of Trustees are accurately recorded and implemented.
• Maintaining an appropriate and secure filing system so that all Trustee papers are retained and accessible.

• Ensuring that Policies and Risk Register are filed and accessible to all who need access.

Family Thing Dance is a small but growing charity that provides inclusive dance classes for people with learning differences and diverse abilities. We are looking for Trustees to join our Board to offer governance and support to grow the charity.
The dance base is commercial dance and hip-hop. Family Thing's mission is to provide opportunities for empowerment, support and a sense of belonging using dance as a vehicle to reach these aims.
Family Thing is passionate about providing these dance opportunities for everyone. There are many reasons why. Mencap lists the main benefits of taking part in leisure activities as improving physical and mental health, personal social skills, self-worth and confidence, and social attitudes (Mencap, 2019). Yet despite these widely understood benefits, only 16.8% of people with a learning disability take part in a sport or physical activities at least once a week, compared with 39.9% of the general population (Sport England, 2018). Additionally, there is a great deal of evidence that inactivity is a major contributing factor of ill health in people with learning disabilities. Only 9% of participants in a 2016 review met the minimum recommended guidelines for physical activity (Dairo et al, 2016).
We know that organisations like Family Thing play a role in the well-being of people with learning disabilities by providing activities that promote good physical health as well as positive psychological and social stimulation, and offers a way to overcome situations such as loneliness and anxiety. We know that a positive impact of Family Thing is the increase in social engagement and improvements in physical and mental well-being for those who participate in our classes.
Activities: Family Thing offers free or subsidised, supportive, fun and creative dance classes to diverse groups of children, young people and adults. During each session, dancers are invited to create their own ‘dance hero persona’, and have opportunities to express themselves as individuals with the support of the group. There is a focus on strengthening their sense of community through the concept of “supporting your crew”. As defined by those who attend the groups, the overall aim is to create a “big family” that’ll dance altogether basically!
What are we looking for?
At this particular time we are keen to find people with a financial services background and someone who may be willing to take on the role of Treasurer in due course and/or someone with marketing skills, including digital marketing.

Charity Structure
- BRACE the charity has a sole Trustee “BRACE Trustee Limited”. All members of the Board are Directors of BRACE Trustee Limited and act as Trustees of BRACE. There are up to 15 directors of BRACE Trustee Limited who for reasons of clarity are called Trustees.
- The Chair and Trustees are usually appointed for a fixed term of 4 years which can be renewed once, enabling Trustees to serve for a maximum continuous term of 8 years.
Meetings
- Board meetings are held 4 times a year plus 1 awayday. Each meeting is +/- 4 hours.
- There are currently 3 sub-committees of the Board (Scientific Advisory Committee [SAC], Finance and HR). The 3 sub-committees meet no more than one month before the board meetings either in person or on Zoom. SAC reviews applications for grants and makes recommendations to the Board for approval.
- Board Meetings are generally held in person in the Bristol area, online or hybrid meetings are not encouraged but can be facilitated.

Branch Trustee – Fundraising
Do you have previous fundraising experience? If you do or are good at coordinating and organising events, we are looking for volunteer trustees to help us manage our fundraising activities so we can raise essential funds to improve animal welfare.
Overview of the opportunity
As Branch Trustee Fundraising Coordinator, you will act as the central contact point for all branch fundraising activities and maintain momentum for the fundraising programme of your branch. You will have fun meeting new people, helping to recruit new volunteers and organising, and attending local events.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether the trustee takes on additional duties.

The RSPCA Bridlington, Driffield & District Branch
The RSPCA Bridlington, Driffield & District Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee Fundraising Coordinator
- Produce a fundraising plan and budget.
- Identify fundraising roles and help recruit volunteers to fill them.
- Liaise with the Volunteer Coordinator and establish and maintain a database of fundraising supporters and volunteers.
- Identify potential sources of income to be explored.
- Organise fundraising events.
- Attend events to collect donations.
- Produce or organise the production of branch fundraising materials.
- Contact local businesses who might be interested in supporting our work.
- Produce monthly update reports for the Branch Trustees.
- Ensure all fundraising activities and events are risk assessed and carried out safely and legally, including complying with data protection regulations and gift aid procedures.
Core Branch Trustee responsibilities
- Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
- Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
- Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
- Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.
- Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support regional initiatives.
- Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.

Our Treasurer is stepping down from the Board of Trustees following a three-year tenure. We are now looking for a new Treasurer to oversee the financial affairs of the Richard Whitehead Foundation. As Treasurer you will be responsible alongside the CEO for managing the charity’s finances, preparing budgets and financial reports, ensuring proper financial controls are in place, and advising the Board on financial matters. Disabled people face significant inequalities in education, sport, leisure and employment. They often face multiple barriers to fulfilling their potential and achieving their aspirations. Sport and physical activity have the power to inspire, enable, build self-esteem, and provide success. They can improve physical health, employability, mental well-being and social community inclusion. However, many barriers prevent disabled people from accessing sport. These include a lack of coaching, clubs, transport, equipment and support networks, as well as high costs and negative perceptions of disabled people participating in sport.
We are a fairly new charity established in 2021, with big ambitions for the future. We have started with small but meaningful projects. We are reaching out to disabled people, learning from our projects, and focusing on our vision and purpose.

The Richard Whitehead Foundation exists to support disabled people to achieve their ambitions and improve their social welfare through participation in sport and physical activity.
All Trustees have joint responsibility for the following main duties:
1. Ensure the Richard Whitehead Foundation (RWF) is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit. This means you should:
●ensure you understand RWF’s purposes as set out in its governing document;
●plan what RWF will do, and what you want it to achieve;
●be able to explain how all RWF’s activities are intended to further or support its purposes;
●understand how RWF benefits the public by carrying out its purposes.
2. Comply with RWF’s governing document and the law. You and your co-trustees must:
●make sure that RWF complies with its governing document;
●comply with charity law requirements and other laws that apply to RWF including submitting an annual return.
3. Act in the Richard Whitehead Foundation’s best interests. You must:
●do what you and your co-trustees (and no one else) decide will best enable RWF to carry out its purposes;
●with your co-trustees, make balanced and adequately informed decisions, thinking about the long term as well as the short term;
●avoid putting yourself in a position where your duty to your charity conflicts with your personal interests or loyalty to any other person or body;
●not receive any benefit from RWF unless it’s properly authorised and is clearly in RWF’s interests; this also includes anyone who is financially connected to you, such as a partner, dependent child or business partner.
4. Manage RWF’s resources responsibly. You must act responsibly, reasonably and honestly. This is sometimes called the duty of prudence. Prudence is about exercising sound judgement. You and your co-trustees must:
●make sure RWF’s assets are only used to support or carry out its purposes;
●not take inappropriate risks with RWF’s assets or reputation;
●not over-commit RWF;
●take special care when investing or borrowing;
●comply with any restrictions on spending funds.
5. Act with reasonable care and skill. As someone responsible for governing the Richard Whitehead Foundation, you:
●must use reasonable care and skill, making use of your skills and experience and taking appropriate advice when necessary;
●should give enough time, thought and energy to your role, for example by preparing for, attending and actively participating in all trustees’ meetings.
6. Ensure the Richard Whitehead Foundation is accountable. You and your co-trustees must comply with statutory accounting and reporting requirements. You should also:
●be able to demonstrate that RWF is complying with the law, well run and effective;
●ensure appropriate accountability to members, if RWF develops a membership separate from the trustees;
●ensure accountability within RWF, particularly where you delegate responsibility for particular tasks or decisions to staff or volunteers.
Roles and responsibilities specific to the role of Treasurer:
The primary role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the Richard Whitehead Foundation’s financial affairs, ensuring its viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. The role is supported by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The essential tasks are:
- General financial oversight
●To oversee accounts and financial statements.
●To liaise with the CEO on financial matters.
●To ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
●To ensure compliance with charity SORP (FRS102), charity commission, HMRC and Companies House requirements.
●To ensure any recommendations of the independent examiner or auditor are implemented.
●To ensure accounts meet the conditions of contractual agreements with external agencies such as funders and statutory bodies.
- Financial planning and reporting
●To support the CEO in presenting financial reports and statements to the Board.
●To advise on RWF’s reserves policy and investment policy.
●To advise on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic and operational plans.
●To ensure that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of RWF.
Experience, Skills & Behaviours required to fulfil the role of Treasurer effectively:
