Company Description: Off the Curriculum, an educational charity, inspires young people (ages 16-18) in Lambeth and Southwark to excel. Hours of work: 1 hour and 30 minutes per month for 6 months.
Monthly salary: Volunteers remunerated £10 voucher per session with their student**
**Remuneration will be based only on one session per month. Any additional mentoring session within that month will be considered voluntarily unless discussed with their mentee and the Off the Curriculum.
Working base: Remote (in-person if suitable).

Role Description:
As a Mentor, your role will involve assisting your mentee in achieving various objectives, such as:
- Enhancing their interpersonal and employability skills.
- Clarifying the connection between academic studies and career aspirations.
- Exploring diverse career pathways and aiding in the formulation of career goals.
- Boosting confidence and self-esteem levels.
- Cultivating professional networks and connections.
Role requirements:
We are looking for someone who can commit 1 hour and 30 minutes per month to mentor individuals or a group of young people on a project of their choosing around your area of expertise.
Welcome applicant expertise from a range of industries are encouraged; however, currently we are focussing on STEM topics including:
- Astronomy - Solar Winds, rocket design
- Psychology - Clinical Psychology and Mental Health
- Neuroscience - Brain computer interfaces
- AI - Neural networks and/or LLM’s

Essential skills:
- Advance communication skills, both written and oral.
- Compassionate, engaging, approachable and capable of active empathic listening, to
- foster a positive mentor-mentee relationship.
- Passion to motivate and coach, understanding needs and capabilities of the programme participants.
Desirable skills:
- A proven track record in a profession with or an equivalent qualification.
- Familiarity with the G-suite - Google docs, Google Sheets, Google Meet.
- Experience in the education sector and collaborating with young people (ages 15-18).
Benefits of volunteering with OTC:
The successful candidates would have a major influence on the development of a young person engaged in OTC’s Academic Mentoring. It will help influence the students’ future career intentions, bolster the students’ motivation to further pursue academic study, and inspire the student to seek a career in STEM. Every year, a large number of young people leave the care system in Greenwich Borough and far too many are not prepared for life after care or are not in education, employment or training. Grandmentors Greenwich is seeking volunteers across the borough willing to empower and support young people (aged 16 -24) transitioning from the care system to independent living. You must be committed to meeting (online or face-to-face) a young person for 1-2 hours per week for at least 6 months.
Typical duties of our mentors
- Improve life skills, self-esteem and confidence.
- Provide advice on managing emotional and physical wellbeing.
- Signpost to public services that offer housing, legal and financial assistance.
- Help a mentee set goals concerning education, employment or training.
- Offer guidance on building positive relationships and avoiding negative influences.
- Assist with language development for Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children.

Skills required
Basic IT and communication skills are needed to communicate with mentees, staff and other mentors, and to use our system to record outcomes after each mentoring session with a young person. You must be open-minded, empathetic, patient and helpful to establish a beneficial relationship.

We are essential in the local community and are currently seeking proactive and postive trustees to bolster our board and give the support to staff, volunteers and coaches to help change young lives in London.

Bright Futures UK works with young people who have been forced to take time out from education due to chronic illness. We provide programmes to help stimulate learning in addition to having a social aspect that offers respite to isolation these young people face due to their unfortunate circumstances.
We are urgently looking for a warm and energetic volunteer English tutor with academic qualifications (GCSE and above) to provide educational support and a fun, safe space for these young people. Tutoring experience is not essential as full training is given. Our sessions also are all currently online.
We need someone who is able to engage with young people in a positive and friendly way, helping them overcome their experiences and not feel defined by their illness. You would engage with a young person on a one-to-one basis to help catch up on their studies, increase their confidence in their own skills, and have some fun with them in order to help them progress.
The young people we work with have missed so many experiences in school which we take for granted. The time you can offer to help fill in those missed periods is invaluable to their development. Your sessions will be fully supported by Bright Futures UK staff – from questions or queries, resources or materials or just to bounce an idea off the team, we’re here to help.
Volunteering with Bright Futures UK is something that can easily fit into your working day or a busy schedule with commitment starting from as little as 1 hour per week. We are so grateful for any support you might be able to provide, as are our young people.

Term
This is a three-year term, with the possibility of re-election for a further three-year term. Internal applicants must be eligible to complete the initial three-year term.
Time commitment
Trustees are asked to commit to four Board meetings a year (3 hours), and an away day. The Chair would be expected to commit more time (estimated at around 1-2 days a month) to cover extra duties such as meetings with the CEO and trustees and planning and preparing for the Board meetings.

As Chair of Power2, you’ll have a passion for making a difference to the lives of children and young people.
Building relationships with the rest of our Board and our CEO will be vital to be successful in this role. Once appointed, you’ll be invited to attend a visit to one of our programmes to gain further insight into how we run our programmes and get to speak to our programme team.

The Access Project supports pupils from under-resourced backgrounds to access top universities. We are looking for volunteers who would be able to tutor a young person aged 14-16, online, one hour a week in term-time Autumn 2024- Summer 2025 to support them with their academic studies.
•Support a young person in a subject of your choice to achieve the GCSE grades they deserve and to fulfil their potential.
•Build transferable skills, experience and knowledge through ongoing training and development as part of the role.
•Students supported by The Access Project typically achieve a grade higher at GCSE and are twice more likely than their peers to progress to a top-third ranked university.
No prior teaching or tutoring experience necessary, we provide a full comprehensive training and induction to help you build the confidence to be the best volunteer you can be.

· Either be currently studying for an undergraduate degree or have an undergraduate degree/equivalent professional qualification.
· Either have an A Level subject or an undergraduate degree in a subject you wish to tutor at GCSE level.
· Be able to spare one hour a week in school term time over the next academic year to tutor (starting Sept/Oct 2024), plus 30 mins a week preparation time.
· Be prepared to undertake an enhanced DBS check (criminal records check) and provide two references (personal or professional).

Volunteers who are able to support in either of these subjects would be particularly welcome. • The Fundraising and Financial Management vertical covers fundraising and money matters: This team is all about finding resources—like getting donations and grants—to keep our programmes strong and healthy.They will spend their time writing fantastic letters, sponsorship proposals and funding requests on behalf of Barawak as a whole, but also (supporting programme leads) to specific organisations for Barawak service lines.
• The Strategic Partnership Development and Collaboration vertical covers building bridges: They're the connectors, making friends with other groups, businesses, and everyone who can help us grow.
• The Volunteer Engagement vertical covers welcoming our helpers: This bunch is in charge of gathering our most valuable resource—people like you who want to volunteer and make a difference.
• The Marketing Outreach and Advocacy vertical covers spreading the word: They tell our story far and wide, making sure everyone knows what we're up to and how they can join in.
Each vertical team works in two distinct ways: the first way is for Barawak as a whole, and the second way is in support of each Barawak service, feeding our programmes, like roots bringing water and nutrients to the branches. Introduction to the Strategic Partnership Lead Role
The Strategic Partnership Lead is crucial in forging strong connections and building strategic alliances. This role focuses on nurturing relationships that support Barawak’s overall mission and each unique programme, ensuring the organisation's growth and the successful delivery of its objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Trustee Support:
• Act as the primary liaison between the Board of Trustees and potential partners.
• Advise trustees on partnership opportunities that align with Barawak's strategic direction.
• Prepare briefing materials and strategic recommendations for trustees on collaboration efforts.
• Coordinate with trustees to identify partnership needs and priorities across all service lines.
Barawak-wide Partnership Development:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive partnership strategy for Barawak as a whole.
• Identify and engage with local, regional, and global organizations, businesses, councils, and government entities.
• Cultivate relationships that lead to resource sharing, joint initiatives, and co-created programmes.
• Secure commitments and formalize agreements that provide sustainable support for Barawak’s operations and initiatives.
Programme-Specific Collaboration:
• Tailor partnership strategies to support the unique needs of each programme lead.
• Work closely with the Poverty Relief, Education & Skill Development, Employment Support, Community Engagement & Racial Harmony, and Sports & Wellness leads to identify potential partners that can provide targeted resources and support.
• Facilitate introductions and negotiations between programme leads and potential partners, ensuring a mutual understanding of goals and expectations.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of partnerships in supporting programme objectives, providing regular reports to programme leads and trustees.
Strategic Alliance Management:
• Maintain a dynamic network of partners, constantly evaluating and nurturing these relationships.
• Organize regular meetings and networking events to foster a community of collaborators.
• Provide ongoing support and guidance to partners, ensuring their contributions are effectively integrated into Barawak’s programmes.
Reporting and Analysis:
• Track and report on partnership activities, outcomes, and the impact on Barawak’s service delivery.
• Use data and feedback to improve partnership strategies and collaboration efforts.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Proven experience in partnership development, relationship management, or a similar role.

At Doorstep Library, we’re dedicated to bringing the magic of books and the joy of reading directly into the homes of children who need our support.
With 1 in 4 children in the UK leaving primary school unable to read or write properly, we recruit and train in-person and online volunteers to introduce children from under-resourced areas to the pleasure of reading.
What’s Involved?
As a Doorstep Library reading volunteer, you’ll visit the same families via Zoom every week with eBooks to share with the children and encourage their love of reading.
You will:
- Handpick eBooks from our online portals based on the children’s age, interests, and reading level
- Join families via Zoom with your volunteer partner for 20-minute reading sessions
- Make notes after the session to keep track of how the child/ren are progressing
Our unique home-based approach allows our volunteers to build trusting relationships with families, helping them to connect with the community and equip them with the skills they need to succeed later in life.
When and Where?
You can be based anywhere in the UK to become a Doorstep Library online volunteer.
- Time commitment: One evening a week, or once every 3 weeks as a Stand-In Volunteer

- Days: Our projects run on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays from 4:30pm – 6:30pm
Skills/Experience Needed
- Be able to make a regular weekly commitment or once every 3 weeks for a Stand-In Volunteer during school term time
- Be compliant with our safeguarding procedures, complete an Enhanced DBS, Child Barred List check, and provide 2 references
- Enjoy spending time with children and believe in education for all
- Have comfortable fluency in English
- Be non-judgmental and respectful of a variety of lifestyles and children’s learning
- Have excellent communication skills – be able to listen to families and communicate effectively with Project Leaders (including via text/emails/calls with Doorstep Library staff)
- Be confident using technology – for connecting with families via Zoom and completing records
- Be organised – be able to multi-task in a multi-faceted role comprising of much more than solely reading to children
- Be reliable – always attending a pre-agreed session and giving plenty of notice in advance of absences
- Be friendly – to build good relationships with families, your volunteer partner and the rest of the team
- Be confident – to lead the session or mentor a new volunteer
- Be patient, persistent and flexible – tailoring your approach to each family’s needs

Understanding the Verticals at Barawak
Imagine Barawak as a living, thriving tree. Our verticals are like the main branches—each one strong and important, reaching out in its own direction but all connected to the same trunk, our community's mission. These four powerhouse teams each have a special job:
• The Fundraising and Financial Management vertical covers fundraising and money matters: This team is all about finding resources—like getting donations and grants—to keep our programmes strong and healthy.They will spend their time writing fantastic letters, sponsorship proposals and funding requests on behalf of Barawak as a whole, but also (supporting programme leads) to specific organisations for Barawak service lines.
• The Partnership Development and Collaboration vertical covers building bridges: They're the connectors, making friends with other groups, businesses, and everyone who can help us grow.
• The Volunteer Engagement vertical covers welcoming our helpers: This bunch is in charge of gathering our most valuable resource—people like you who want to volunteer and make a difference.
• The Marketing Outreach and Advocacy vertical covers spreading the word: They tell our story far and wide, making sure everyone knows what we're up to and how they can join in.
Each vertical team works in two distinct ways: the first way is for Barawak as a whole, and the second way is in support of each Barawak service, feeding our programmes, like roots bringing water and nutrients to the branches. Who we are:
ACAA works to empower and support refugees and asylum seekers by providing vital services that enable successful integration. Role Summary:
Working as part of a small dynamic ESOL teaching team, you will have the opportunity to shadow teachers and gain practical teaching experience. Art History Link-Up is looking for a new Secretary Trustee to join the Board.
Our small Board currently comprises ten dedicated individuals, between them holding broad experience across several sectors and disciplines.
We are seeking to boost particular skills on the Board and are particularly keen to appoint a candidate with the skills below:
Secretary
- An individual with a legal background, or with sound knowledge of the area who can take the lead on compliance issues relating to constitutional, legal, regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Excellent organisational skills
The Board of Trustees has responsibility for:
- Providing strategic oversight and leadership, ensuring that Art History Link-Up pursues its stated objectives.
- Ensuring effective and efficient administration of the charity, including approving the budget, defining goals and targets, evaluating performance, and taking appropriate action to manage risk.
- Taking a limited but hands-on role to support the delivery of certain elements of the charity’s work (e.g. marketing, accounting, recruitment).
- Ensure resources are used effectively to ensure the overall financial sustainability of the charity in future years.
- Contributing to and safeguarding the reputation and values of the charity and our partners, being an excellent advocate for Art History Link-Up and the young people we work with.
- Supporting our employees, freelancers and volunteers to help them contribute positively and professionally to the development of the Charity and its programme.
- Ensuring that Art History Link-Up operates in accordance with the principles of good governance, complying with its Articles of Association, its safeguarding and recruitment policies, charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
