It Gets Better UK envisions a world where all LGBTQ+ youth are free to live equally and know their worthiness and power as individuals. We strive to tell the stories of LGBTQ+ people and to provide positive and reassuring messages to LGBTQ+ youth.

Founded in 2010 in America, the It Gets Better Project has since grown into a global movement, with affiliated charities in 20 different countries. We launched in the UK in October 2018 and have grown significantly since then. Our rapidly expanding organisation now includes a newly appointed staff team consisting of a CEO and a Volunteer Coordinator, alongside a dedicated team of volunteers across the UK.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking dynamic and committed individuals to join our Board of Trustees. We are particularly looking for expertise in the following key areas:

Key areas of expertise and desired backgrounds

• Corporate Partnerships and Strategic Fundraising:
  • Experience in securing and managing corporate partnerships, preferably within the charity sector. Knowledge of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and strategic fundraising initiatives that drive financial support and long-term relationships.
     
• Charity Law:
  • Extensive knowledge of UK charity law, with experience in providing legal advice on governance, compliance, contracts, and safeguarding within a charitable context.
     
• Small Charity Growth and Development:
  • Proven track record in leading or advising small charities through periods of growth. Expertise in strategic planning, resource management, volunteer engagement, and scaling operations sustainably.
     
• Community Engagement and Advocacy:
  • Deep understanding of the LGBTQ+ community, with experience in community organising, advocacy, or public engagement. Ability to build strong relationships with community stakeholders and effectively represent the charity’s mission.

Roles and responsibilities

As a trustee, you will play a critical role in guiding our strategic direction, ensuring good governance, and supporting the delivering of our mission. Your responsibilities will include:

• Strategic Oversight: Collaborate with fellow trustees and staff to develop and implement strategies that align with the charity’s goals and ensure its sustainable growth.
• Advisory Role: Provide expert advice in your area of expertise, whether that be corporate partnerships, legal matters, charity growth, or community engagement.
• Support and Advocacy: Act as an ambassador for the charity, promoting our work and engaging with key stakeholders to advance our mission.
• Operational Input: While our board is transitioning from an operational to a more strategic focus, trustees will still be expected to take on functional roles as needed, especially in areas where the charity requires additional support

Time commitment

• The Board meets at least four times a year.
• It is expected the trustees spent at least two hours a week on their duties.
• As we continue to transition our board to a more strategic focus, trustees may be asked to support operational tasks on an as-needed basis.

EDI Volunteer Role  - EDI Activity Group Member 

We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, volunteers, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Join us today so that together we can stop MS.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team. As a volunteer you will play a crucial part in helping us deliver our EDI work. By attending four monthly meetings you will provide advice, feedback, guidance and personal opinion on our work. You will act as a bridge between our EDI activity group and our EDI reference group.

The EDI reference group is a group of people affected by MS who helped develop our EDI strategy and now help support our work towards its delivery. The EDI activity group is a staff group who have responsibility and accountability for the delivery of our EDI strategy.

As a Secretary to the Stokenchurch Dog Rescue Board of Trustees, you will be able to donate your skills, time and attention to our worthwhile and rewarding cause. In return, we can offer the opportunity to be part of a small, friendly and committed team with a dedication and passion for its work and every dog that arrives in need of care and a brighter future. What is LBA looking for?

The London Basketball Association is pleased to announce that an opportunity has arisen for a Board of Trustees Chairperson to join our intensely committed organisation.

The Board of Trustees Chairperson is a pivotal role within the organisation, tasked with holding the Board and Executive Team to account, to ensure the Charity hits its mission and longer term strategic visions. This is achieved by providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. Leadership

• Provide leadership to the LBA and its Board, ensuring maximum impact for its beneficiaries.

Who we are.

We raise awareness with the public, are a key influencing voice, and work with politicians to ensure that the Government is doing all it can to keep people safe from electrical accidents. We seek a new Trustee with demonstrated commercial acumen, particularly with experience in the renewables sector, to join our Board.

Electrical Safety First (ESF) is a campaigning charity that aims to reduce deaths and injuries caused by electricity in UK homes. We do this by working closely with the Government, the electrical industry, manufacturers, retailers, and consumer safety organisations to improve safety regulation and standards. We also run media and digital campaigns to share advice and guidance with consumers that will help them stay safe in their homes.

We campaign on issues that include electrical safety within housing standards, regulating the sale of electrical goods on online marketplaces, and protecting people vulnerable to increased risk of electric shock and electrical fires. We also consider the future safe use of electricity in the home as we transition to the electrification of our heating and transport, and homes and appliances will become smarter. We run an annual consumer survey that looks at general attitudes towards electrical safety, and we carry out research on specific areas of interest, including product safety, housing, electric vehicles and how we will use electricity in the future.

Our consumer campaigns, delivered through the media and online via our social media channels, aim to increase awareness of the dangers of electricity and encourage people to make the simple changes that will help them to stay safe in their homes.  We also publish reports on key electrical safety issues to provide evidence and recommendations for change and use our technical expertise to influence standards, regulations and legislation.

It’s a hugely exciting time to be involved with ESF, given the rise in electricity use as we transition to more electrification of our heating and transport. As the Government strives to achieve our net zero targets, our work has never been more important in protecting people and helping to make our increasingly electric world a safer place.

The British Nutrition Foundation is a charity dedicated to the promotion of evidence-based nutrition science to improve public health. We work to translate the latest scientific research into practical advice, guidance, and resources that can be used by the public, health professionals, and educators. Role Overview

We are seeking two individuals to join the Advisory Committee, with significant expertise in nutrition science or allied disciplines (sustainability, food systems) and public health respectively, both with a demonstrated ability to apply scientific knowledge to practical and policy contexts.

• Becoming a trustee is a valuable commitment of approximately 2-3 hours per month, where your expertise and dedication will significantly contribute to our mission. This includes meetings, preparation, and additional responsibilities for sub-committees.

Additional Terms 

Legal Eligibility: Must be eligible to act as a charity trustee and will undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check. 

Term Length: Trustees will serve a 3-year term, with eligibility for reappointment at the end of each term for two additional terms.

We’re seeking volunteers to take on the essential role of Trustee, who will oversee our charity’s governance and be a guiding light in SUNSHINE’s leadership, combating social isolation and nurturing our young charity.

We are especially interested in people with experience in the following areas;

1. Lived Experience: Trustees who have personal experience with social isolation or loneliness can provide us with valuable insights and empathy and guide us on our journey, especially when making key decisions.

2. Community Engagement and Partnership Building: Experience in community development and engagement would help us  reach the communities we serve and help us build and maintain strong community connections and partnerships.

3. Fundraising and Financial Management: Trustees with skills in fundraising, budgeting, and financial oversight can help ensure the charity’s financial health and sustainability, especially in getting hands on to write funding grant applications to help us generate income or to lead on fundraising events to help us kickstart our charity.

4. Governance and Compliance: Knowledge of charity governance, legal requirements, and compliance would help us ensure the charity operates within the law and follows best practices.

5. Strategic Planning: Trustees should be able to contribute to the strategic direction of the charity, helping to set goals and develop plans to achieve them.

6. Marketing and Communications: Experience in marketing, public relations, and communications can help us to raise awareness of the charity’s mission and attract support, as well as expand our reach to those who need our support.

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

SSAFA branches rely on a regular charitable income to fund all the necessities behind our support for clients. This includes volunteer travel expenses, phone bills, publicity, and grants for clients in urgent needs. A varied programme of fundraising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community. We’d love to hear from you if you could help by coordinating this vital aspect of your local SSAFA branch.

As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. You would also be out and about at events and meetings. This role would suit someone looking to give a regular time commitment to SSAFA although when and where would be flexible to suit you.

• Developing an ethical fundraising plan based on the needs of the branch and choosing a mix of sources.
• Working with the branch secretary and Regional Fundraising Manager, recruit a team of fundraising volunteers to support events, appeals and collections.
• Working with the Regional Fundraising Manager, support national fundraising campaigns.
• Working with the Branch Publicity Officer, develop opportunities to combine awareness and fundraising.
• Planning and running local appeals, collections, and events
• Identifying and submitting applications to appropriate trusts and grant funding organisations
• Working with Marketing staff at central office check that all fundraising materials meet SSAFA branding style and current key messages.
• Liaise with Regional Fundraising Manager when pursuing opportunities beyond local sources e.g., corporates.
• Evaluate fundraising activities and provide reports and information for the branch.
• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA including all sections of the community in awareness raising
• Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)

The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.
