Background  

The Four Nations Advisory Panel (FNAP) has been established by the National Emergencies Trust (The Trust) as a panel of representatives from each of the UK four nations that are able to advise on and support the development and delivery of the work of the National Emergencies Trust (the Trust), between and during emergency appeals.  

Contributions from the panel and individual members will help enable the Trust to continuously improve its knowledge and understanding of the four nations and their communities, so that it can be better informed when supporting survivors of UK emergencies. It will complement the work of the Mental Health, Equity and Survivors Advisory Panels in supporting a collaborative and inclusive approach by the Trust.  

The Terms of Reference for the Panel, which will report directly to the Trust’s Board can be found here. 

The Panel does not hold any decision-making powers in relation to operational and financial decisions by the Trust. 

Role Description  

The role: 

• Ensure each of the four nations are represented on the panel to ensure that relevant differences of culture, communities, administration and capacity are considered and taken account of by the Trust in its activities. 

• Advise the Board and Executive to enhance our reach, networks, and local understanding in each nation. 

• Brokering relationships with relevant organisations and individuals within the relevant home nation. 

• Representing and promoting the work of the Trust. 

• To inform and support the work of the Trust’s other Advisory Panels.  

During appeals:  

• Providing access to relevant intelligence, data and information networks. 

• Working with the emergency funding advisory board in Scotland and similar bodies which may be set up by the Government of each nation.

• Can work collaboratively with others in a team, using their skills to make decisions in the best interests of BGFB, holding responsibility and accountability individually and jointly. 

• Can demonstrate awareness and understanding of the legal responsibilities of being a Trustee, and best practice in charity governance.

• Must be able to obtain a DBS, be able to attend required training and meetings (usually twice per month), and have not been disqualified to stand as a Trustee/Director.

Experience required: 

• We are particularly interested in people with expertise in fundraising and communication. However, we would also like to hear from anyone who has skills and experience they can use to help us achieve our strategic goals. The list below are possible areas but should not be considered as finite:

New Citizens’ Gateway is a charity in Barnet, London that empowers refugees and asylum seekers to foster a sense of belonging, integrate into the UK and rebuild their lives, through advice and guidance, campaigning, ESOL classes, community classes and groups, counselling, wellbeing services, youth activities and mentoring.

Ikoku Protection and Justice

Ikoku Protection and Justice empowers and supports juvenile offenders in Uganda through legal aid, psychosocial support, advocacy and stakeholder capacity building trainings to create a child-friendly justice system.

The lack of accessible and comprehensive legal Aid for juvenile offenders has led to countless wrongful detentions and prosecutions thus leading to congestion in the remand homes.

According to a 2021 UNICEF report, around 261,200 children worldwide are estimated to have been in detention on any given day in 2020. Despite the global scope of this issue, East Africa, including Uganda, lacks concrete statistical data to fully understand the extent of the challenges faced by juvenile offenders in accessing legal aid.

We are seeking two Governors for our voluntary-aided girls’ school in the East End of London who care deeply about transforming the lives of young women through education.

What will you be doing?

About You

We are looking for two new Foundation Governors who are excited by and committed to the delivery of an excellent education for students at our Girls' School in Tower Hamlets. You will join seventeen other members of the Governing Body responsible for the strategic direction of the school, and involved in many significant decisions in school life.

Time Commitment

Governors usually spend ~20 hours per term on core governing duties.

The Governing Body which meets four times a year to undertake its regular duties, with occasional meetings for urgent or time critical decisions. Regular meetings currently take place on Wednesdays during term time, usually at 5/5.30pm. Governors also need to allow time to read papers and prepare for meetings.

The Girls’ School Governing Body has three sub-committees – Finance & Resources, Curriculum, and Health & Safety and Personnel. These meet at least termly, and we ask that each governor sit on at least one committee.

In addition, we are particularly looking for the successful candidate to be able to spend a further 8 – 10 hours per term on ad hoc matters requiring more 'hands on' governor involvement, including meetings with students, staff and parents which usually take place during the school day. 

We encourage governors to attend one governor’s day per term when specific topics central to educational outcomes are highlighted for discussion with staff and students. Governors are also invited to attend public events such school play performances, music concerts and prize-giving ceremonies.

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.  

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

Support, guidance and keeping you safe

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.

At SUNSHINE—a dynamic start-up charity dedicated to combating loneliness—we’re launching an innovative Loneliness Project that empowers participants to create their very own country in groups. We’re looking for an inspired Volunteer Graphic Designer who can craft visual elements such as flags, coats of arms, and other national identity images to help these groups bring their new countries to life.

About the Loneliness Project

Our Loneliness Project is designed to spark confidence, creativity, and meaningful connections. By inviting participants to work together in creating a unique country—from designing a flag to developing a coat of arms—this project helps individuals build a strong sense of identity, purpose, and community. With your design expertise, you’ll play a crucial role in turning imaginative ideas into visual symbols that represent hope, collaboration, and unity.

Your Role as Volunteer Graphic Designer

As a key creative force in the Loneliness Project, you will:

• Design National Symbols: Create inspiring designs for flags, coats of arms, and other identity elements that will represent each group’s unique country. This will be based off the participants ideas.

• Develop Visual Identities: Collaborate with project facilitators and participants to translate their ideas into cohesive visual identities that reflect their aspirations and cultural narratives.

• Produce Promotional Materials: Help create engaging promotional content, including posters and social media posts, to showcase the project and attract further community support.

• Bring Concepts to Life: Use your technical expertise in graphic design software (like Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent) to produce high-quality visuals that spark dialogue and connection.

You can volunteer on a one-off basis or work with us more regularly, depending on your availability and interest.

We need a design enthusiast who is passionate about art and social change. The ideal candidate will have:

• A Strong Portfolio: Demonstrated experience in graphic design with examples that highlight your creativity and versatility in visual storytelling.

Refettorio Felix is a community kitchen with an open-door policy in the Earl's Court area. We provide a safe haven and a warm, welcoming atmosphere for those facing homelessness and financial crises.

Using surplus food ingredients, our kitchen freshly prepares a three-course lunch for up to 140 people per weekday. We are looking for friendly and dedicated volunteers to support us in our mission to provide fresh and nutritious meals to our guests.

Your support will have a meaningful impact on the quality of lives of the most vulnerable members of the community. From trained and experienced Chefs to keen home cooks, we would love to hear from you!
