Job description

Trust in Learning (Academies) exists to provide excellent primary education in Bristol. Following the retirement of the current Chair, we are seeking a driven professional to join as Chair of Trustees.

Applications close at: 9 a.m. Wednesday 25th September 2024

About Trust in Learning (Academies)

Trust in Learning (Academies, also known as TiLA, is a charity dedicated to helping schools and children. It is committed to improving schools and the experiences of children and young people, enabling them to become successful learners and responsible citizens.

We grew out of a sponsorship arrangement in 2017 and have since grown into nine schools across Bristol, focused on creating environments for learners and communities to thrive in areas of underprivilege.

TiLA aims to enhance the quality of education and outcomes for children and young people in Bristol and the West of England by fostering communities that trust in learning and the transformative power of education.

We support and challenge schools to improve by promoting the autonomy and empowerment of effective leadership and governance.

As a Trust, we provide robust central support services to empower our schools to deliver excellent education to every learner.

We see our schools as pillars in their communities and have made it our duty to offer a foundation on which they can build and flourish.

About the role

We are seeking a Chair to lead our team of high-performing Trustees. The new Chair will work closely with the CEO and other board members to navigate the evolving educational landscape and ensure the continued success of TiLA.

Who we are looking for

We are open to various professional backgrounds, but our ideal candidate will have experience leading a large and complex business or charitable organisation of similar size and scale with a diverse and substantial staff team.

Your professional experience does not need to be limited to just schools and MATs as we believe there are benefits in having a wider lens than this and so would welcome applications from people who have worked across the education sector, be that in an educational institution, a sector body or other related and relevant professional setting.

We need a Chair designate to manage meetings effectively, so having an understanding of effective governance, either in a professional or non-executive capacity, is ideal for us.

As a publicly funded organisation committed to delivering a valuable return on the public funds entrusted to us, it is essential that our next Chair brings experience in financial planning and demonstrates strong financial literacy.

Regardless of the professional background of our chosen Chair of Trustees, it is imperative that the successful candidate is driven to learn as part of their role. As a Trust, we will be committed to supporting you in becoming a rounded Chair by providing you with the necessary training and resources.

We welcome applicants to TiLA who seek to join us in creating an environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and personally, with opportunities for enrichment and a community-led approach to education. We recognise our social and moral role in our communities and hope that our new Chair can work with us to continue striving for that.

Peridot Partners and Trust in Learning (Academies) are, together, committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
