The Trustee Board is crucial to the successful running of the Home-Start Southwark. The Board, in partnership with the CEO and senior executive team, ensures that the organisation operates effectively, setting its strategic vision and supporting the delivery of business plans and key objectives. The Treasurer role is to oversee the charity’s financial and risk management processes; monitor the charity’s income, outgoings and cash-flow forecasting; and maintain a strategic overview of the organisation’s financial resources.

Supporting young people in leading activities and mentoring support by providing a listening ear and practical support and guidance.

Detailed description

You’ll find plenty of ways to use your listening skills as well as being a first point of advice for practical concerns that young people face or for supporting them in fun and exciting activities and games. We have our Youth Sessions based in Watford, Hatfield and Cheshunt.

You will be:

Supporting youth work activities and workshops

Supervising young people in discussion sessions

As a new startup youth charity in London, we need the guidance, leadership and drive from a volunteer who is driven, proactive, solution focused and able to help provide create and develop our programmes for young people at REMIX while also providing key and leadership to our brand new youth charity as our Youth Programme Manager/Youth Development Manager.

You'll join a strong team dedicated to supporting people affected by rape and sexual abuse. Each year we campaign, fundraise and offer educational programmes as well as wellbeing services and group work activity sessions.

At Birchall, we work in a trauma informed way, which means we realise the widespread impact of trauma and understand potential paths for recovery. Our services allow people to work on a deeper level and address the trauma they have experienced. We are committed to the highest standards of governance as a Trustee Board and we will ensure you have the training and support to participate fully and to feel prepared and empowered as a Trustee.

We have a challenging strategic plan but wow what a difference we can make to individuals and communities if we achieve that.

The main criteria we are looking for is someone who is enthusiastic about the work we do here at Birchall and is keen to get stuck into being on a board. ABOUT SMART WORKS 

Smart Works is a dynamic, high profile and fast-growing UK charity that dresses and coaches unemployed women for success at their job interview. We empower each woman by giving her the clothes and the confidence she needs to succeed. 

After visiting Smart Works, 63% of clients secure a job within a month, gaining financial independence and transforming their lives. The Smart Works service is delivered in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle, Reading and Leeds. 

Over the past ten years, Smart Works has helped over 30,000 women. It is our mission that any woman who needs our service should be able to find her way to a Smart Works centre. 

In April 2022, Smart Works launched a new Three-Year Plan that will see the charity double the number of women helped annually from 5,000 to 10,000 women a year. To achieve this, we will grow our existing centres and open new centres in areas of need.

Since opening its doors in 2014, Smart Works Scotland has supported over 2,500 unemployed women who need help getting into work. 

Smart Works Scotland has established itself as a leading women’s charity within Scotland and operates from two centres, in Glasgow and Edinburgh. It is a fast paced, collaborative environment with a dynamic team and ambitious local plans. All who work here describe it as being hugely fun and rewarding, with opportunities to make a life-changing difference to the women we support. 

Meaningful partnerships have been developed and nurtured with fellow charities and organisations which refer women to Smart Works, as well as with a variety of businesses that support the charity. 

Over the past 10 years, a dynamic calendar filled with a variety of engaging fundraising activities has been developed to support the work of the charity, with income generated through grants from trusts and foundations, community events and partnership working. Our growth has been driven by an experienced Board of Trustees, dedicated staff team of 8 and our community of 100 volunteers. The Smart Works community is well established in both Glasgow and Edinburgh and the team are excited at the amazing possibilities that exist to continue to reach more and more women across Scotland in need of our service. 

Our current Chair who set up the charity all those years ago, has decided that now is the right time to recruit a new Chair who can build on her amazing legacy and steer the charity through its next phase of growth. The need for our service has never been greater and with the momentum that has been built over the years, the Charity is well poised to go from strength to strength. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The operation and success of Smart Works Scotland is overseen by a passionate and dedicated Board of Trustees, which is led by the Chair of the Board. 

Working closely with their Board, the Chair is responsible for the direction, financial stability and governance of Smart Works Scotland. A key accountability will be to oversee the successful delivery of the fundraising strategy and ensure the UK-wide Smart Works strategy is effectively brought to life in the Scotland. 

A key part in achieving this will be leveraging networks to raise the profile of the charity and motivating others to join the Smart Works community as volunteers, ambassadors and donors. 

The successful candidate will provide mentorship to the eight members of staff and cultivate a supportive environment where the team can thrive and deliver outstanding results. The role holder will also participate in national Smart Works forums alongside other Smart Works Chairs. 

The role is perfect for an experienced and purposeful leader who is passionate about supporting women to transform their lives, and wants to use their skills, professional network and experience for good. 

It is a voluntary position, with reasonable travel costs and expenses being covered.

The Employment Support Programme at Barawak is an instrumental part of our strategic initiative to enhance the economic well-being of the Afro-Hebrew community through increased employability. Our focused strategy is to improve job readiness and access to employment opportunities by providing practical support such as CV clinics, interview coaching, and subsidies for travel to interviews and courses. This programme is designed to create real change, with the aim to see a measurable increase in employment rates within our community. By creating and leveraging partnerships with local businesses and organisations, we not only open doors for immediate job placements but also lay the groundwork for sustained economic growth. Through this service line, we strive to fulfill our mission of economic empowerment, making tangible progress towards our vision of a prosperous and self-sustaining community.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Plan and execute the Employment Support strategy and service line:

• CV Assistance and subsidising travel: Organise and oversee quarterly CV clinics and provide discretionary support for travel costs associated with interviews and courses, enhancing job readiness among community members.

• Discretionary interview support: provide access to high quality discretionary interview practice and advice.

• Job opportunity signposting: Develop and maintain partnerships with businesses and organizations to highlight job opportunities for the community. Act as a liaison for discretionary referrals to these job opportunities, ensuring a fit between community members’ skills and available positions.

2. Measure performance: Keep accurate count of the number of individuals assisted with CVs, job applications and interview preparation; the number vacancies shared with the community and any successful placement rates of those assisted. Provide this data to the Governance Team and Trustees on request.

• Partnership Development & Collaboration Team: Coordinate with this team to identify and establishalliances and partnerships with local, regional and global organisations, businesses, councils, and thegovernment to acquire Employment Supportresources, speakers or information.

• Fundraising & Financial Management Team: Collaborate with this team to conduct fundraising activities and financial planning for the Employment Support service line. Identify diverse revenue streams, such as grants, donations, corporate sponsorships, fundraising events for the Employment Supportservice.

• Volunteer Engagement Team: Work with this team to recruit, train and manage volunteers to support the Employment Support service delivery.

• Marketing Outreach & Advocacy: work with this team to enhance visibility of the Employment Supportservice across social media, press, and community events.

Join our amazing volunteer team in this flexible opportunity that puts you at the heart of our work supporting blind and partially sighted people. You’ll make taking part in events and carrying out volunteering easier and more enjoyable for our customers and volunteers with sight loss.

You’ll take some of the stress and anxiety out of getting around and taking part in activities as a blind or partially sighted person. The help you give will encourage people to do more.

What you’ll be doing

• Sighted guiding / giving practical help to individuals in and around venues, so they can take part in events. 

• Supporting volunteers with sight loss with their volunteering activities which range from facilitating a regular community group to delivering a talk about sight loss to a local business.  Your role would involve things like guiding; Meeting and greeting at group activities or creating a welcoming and interesting display stand at events.

In this role you will only be helping individuals in places open to the public, often in a group setting.  We will provide training in sighted guiding techniques and understanding sight loss.

This is an advisory position, providing strategic direction, practical input and ideas at a board level. We are looking for individuals who can embrace our holistic approach to crime prevention and the relief of poverty, and who can support the executive Director in articulating, shaping and achieving the institute’s collective vision. 

The post is for 2 years (renewable). In practice, this will involve active participation in the quarterly Board meetings and annual away day, and feeding into regular electronic discussions with the Executive Director and the Chair of the Board.

A £50 honorarium per physical meeting (voluntary) will be provided to cover all expenses incurred in relation to the delivery of the JD including attending board meetings, travel and other administrative expenses.

In addition, there will be opportunities for mutually negotiated engagement in paid consultancies, where appropriate. If NEDs are engaged in the operations through a consultancy, the organisational line management structure will need to be respected.

Volunteers needed for community cycle scheme

Position Title: Volunteer Pilot (Cyclist for an Electric Tandem Bike)

About Us:

Chat-e-Cycle C.I.C. is a community interest company dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults through social cycling. We use a side-by-side electric tandem bike to support individuals travel to appointments, run errands, experience the outdoors and enjoy social outings. We have partnered with the Active Ways as part of their social prescribing scheme and improving access to active transport in Bath and North East Somerset, and the Somer Valley. 

Role Overview:

We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic cyclists to volunteer with us. As a Volunteer Cyclist, you will cycle alongside older adults using our electric tandem bikes, providing support and offering an eco-friendly transport option.

Key Responsibilities:

Training and volunteer induction will help you to meet the requirements below:

• Safely operate a side-by-side electric tandem bike to take older adults to appointments, shops, social events, as well riding with those who enjoy cycling for fun! 

• Ensure a positive and comfortable experience for passengers throughout the ride.

• Following safety protocols and basic bike checks to ensure the safe operation of the bike. These will be covered during induction training

About you: 

• We see it as an advantage if you are an experienced cyclist with a good understanding of cycling on roads +/- bike operation and maintenance.

• You are friendly and approachable, with strong communication skills and experience working with people.

• You can be adaptable to meet the needs of the person you are cycling with. 

• You have availability to volunteer approximately once a week (weather dependent). Flexible schedules are also preferable.

General tasks

• Contribute to staff meetings and other internal meetings with views and suggestions etc.

• Ability to work independently and ask for clarification when needed.
• Able to participate at least 12 hours a week (2 days, 6 hours each day)

• Committed to working with the community with a passion for helping others less fortunate.
• Proficiency in Microsoft and Excel.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours of commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

Upon successful application, our HR team will contact you to arrange an interview. Following a successful interview, we'll initiate the onboarding process by sending you the necessary documents. Once your onboarding and identification documents are received and verified, you'll be invited to a 6-hour HR and System Induction. Subsequently, you'll meet with your Head of Department or Assistant Manager for your First Day.

Parkinson’s changes lives. From the day of diagnosis, people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones need to know we’re by their side. If you're enthusiastic about making activities available to people affected by Parkinson's then this role is for you!

Activity groups are run by volunteers and offer friendship and support in the form of activities for local people affected by Parkinson's. In Worcestershire, we offer a range of activities to give people affected by Parkinson's a more flexible opportunity of taking part in things that will help them feel in control.

We are looking for someone who is confident with using a range of social media platforms to help us to reach more people in the local community who could benefit from our activities. We are always trying to do more and your help could support us to find new volunteers , too!

You'll have a chance to use and develop your administrative, leadership and communication skills, supported by local staff and other volunteers, to showcase our programme of activities appropriately. The role is flexible and can be adapted to fit around your commitments.
