No Panic is a national self-help charity, which supports people with a range of anxiety problems. We provide the No Panic Helpline and there is additional support services offered to members. .

We are seeking a skilled volunteer trustee to strengthen our board, particularly with experience in finance and raising funds.

Ideal candidates will have volunteered at board level, in charities that only employ a small number of staff and rely mostly on volunteers.

We seek candidates who are confident and committed and prepared to step up. Candidates may be asked to fill Officer roles or join sub-committees. Officers may oversee the work of several teams.

The Board of Trustees meets on the last Wednesday evening of the first and third month of each quarter. In the second month, sub-committees meet.

Do you enjoy a good pub quiz and researching interesting questions? We're looking for someone like you to facilitate our fortnightly telephone quiz group for blind and partially sighted people who love to take part in a good pub quiz. You'll contribute to the group to ensure that all participants feel comfortable and that the group runs smoothly as well as researching the questions - and answers!

You'll help members of the group feel safe to be in the group and enable them to join in the quiz each fortnight. You'll look after their welfare and flag any safeguarding concerns with our Talk and Support team for follow up.

How can you help?

We’re looking for Website Volunteers to review and help improve our new and existing webpages. You’ll be given training in editing these, in order to:

• Improve the readability of our webpages
• Improve our Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), which impacts how easy our website is to find

What impact will you have?

Our website supported over 1.2 million people in 2024/2025 and we want even more people to be able to find us. By helping to improve our visibility, more people will be able to find us sooner after a brain tumour diagnosis and be able to access vital information, resources and support.

We’re looking for

You don’t have to have any experience in SEO or website editing for this role as full training will be provided. We’re looking for individuals with:

• Good written communication skills, including the ability to simplify language into lay friendly terms
• An interest in developing new skills and helping to improve our website information
• General IT skills and an ability to use their own laptop for this role

Time commitment

We ask volunteers to commit to around 3-4 hours each week for a period of at least 6 months. Once you’ve completed the required training, there are no restrictions on when you can do your volunteering – this can be done at a time that works for you, including evenings and weekends. 

Practical considerations

You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role (Induction training will take place week commencing 15 December). You will receive ongoing direction from one of the team, who will be your key contact.

We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18.

We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with The Charity. If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close the role early, so we’d encourage you to apply at your earliest opportunity.

Compassionate Companions are trained volunteers who provide empathetic, non-clinical support to individuals and families affected by life-limiting conditions, including severe frailty and dementia. Their role is to listen, empower, and guide individuals in exploring and documenting their preferences for future care, helping them live with peace of mind and dignity.

This role requires an enhanced DBS check. Full training is provided.

• Conduct home and community visits to patients, providing compassionate and person centred support.

• Engage with patients to understand their values, priorities, and what matters most to them.

• Accurately document patients’ care preferences using the My Care Choices booklet.

• Initiate sensitive conversations regarding the ReSPECT form and resuscitation preferences, supporting patients ahead of clinical discussions with their healthcare provider.

• Provide guidance and emotional support in funeral planning, respecting individual wishes and cultural considerations.

• Facilitate legacy activities such as letter writing, memory box creation, and other meaningful expressions.

• Direct patients and families to appropriate services through collaboration with social prescribers and Essex Frontline.

• Record and relay relevant observations and updates to the team manager in a timely and professional manner using a digital form provided.

• Uphold strict confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries in all interactions.

In 2020 we set up our virtual Childline base to support children and young people by answering their e mail contacts. Home-based Childline email counsellors respond to emails from young people who have got in touch with something that's worrying them, whether it's bullying, abuse, self-harm or family relationships.
