In terms of the role, The Planet Life is at a critical stage in its development and requires funding to expand its innovative sustainability initiatives. What You’ll Do:

- Track and report on grant statuses, deadlines, and any feedback received

What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience writing and submitting successful grants. Experience with Innovate UK is a plus but not a requirement.
- Strong research skills to identify appropriate grant opportunities
- Excellent written communication skills, with an ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively
- Self-motivated and proactive in seeking out grant opportunities and managing the process
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a remote team and communicate with the founder
- Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple deadlines
- Available to volunteer 8-10 hours per week

Role Description

We are recruiting 7 volunteer board members to join our newly created STEP EbE Advisory Board. All board members will have lived experience of forced migration. The STEP EbE Advisory Board will be a structured and collaborative way for World Jewish Relief to engage with external advisors (in this case, volunteer board members) to advise and help on programme design and decision-making.
World Jewish Relief created the Specialist Training and Employment Programme (STEP) for refugees in 2016 and today we are the largest provider of specialist employment support to refugees in the UK.STEP aims to support and empower people with experience of forced migration through a tailored employment programme that addresses the complex barriers refugees face in preparing for, and ultimately finding, work in the UK.
The board members’ responsibilities will vary depending on the topic of advice in discussion, however, suggested activities include:
- Board member meetings to discuss ideas and create recommendations
- Group and 1:2:1s meetings with STEP stakeholders (employment advisors, participants, WJR board, partners)
- Document reviews (e.g. programme materials)
- Presenting recommendations in different formats (e.g writing, speaking)
- Attending optional training sessions chosen by the board
About you
We are looking for board members who:
- Have lived experience of forced migration i.e. refugee status, humanitarian protection, people seeking asylum, and Ukrainian extension scheme
- Have intermediate and above understanding of English (B1+)
- Can commit to 4-6 hours a month
- Comfortable with IT, training can be provided
- Have or interested in developing the following skills:
- Empathy & emotional awareness
- Learning mindset
- Able to work well in collaborative settings
- Good communication skills
- Being open-minded and honest
- Board members can have experience of being on STEP as a participant, but it is not a requirement. We aim for there to be a mix of experience with STEP on the board.

- Equipment: We will provide any IT/ Digital Access equipment needed for the role.
- Induction training and materials will be provided as well as other training as requested by board members.

Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird?
Samaritans is one of the few helplines and services that are open 24/7. But we struggle to answer all the calls we receive in the early hours of the morning.
Statistics show that between 2 am and 6 am, people who call us are twice as likely to be suicidal. But many have to wait over 30 minutes to get through to a Samaritan.
We are planning to expand our cover at night and looking for volunteers who can do a shift from midnight - 6 am once a month.
We're looking for volunteers to:
- Provide confidential emotional support for people experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.
- Provide such support by telephone, email, web chat and whatever other means of communication may be adopted by Samaritans.
Key responsibilities:
- To provide confidential emotional support as above
- To uphold Samaritans' Mission, Vision & Values & Policies & Procedures
- To complete regular volunteering duties, including overnight duties, as agreed
- To support fellow Samaritan volunteers during shared duties
- To debrief with duty Leader after each shift
- To liaise with duty Leader in respect of difficult or emergency situations or when in doubt
- To follow instructions given by duty Leader or Director
- To maintain caller log sheets and/or systems as required by the branch
- To undertake continuous development training
We're looking for volunteers with the following qualities:
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- To be able to actively listen without prejudice
- To be able to communicate clearly with callers and branch volunteers
- Ability to deal sensitively with all callers, including vulnerable people, those with mental health issues and children, as necessary
- Able to follow procedures and maintain systems
- Ability to recognise the need for support (in themselves and others) and to seek or provide support where necessary
- Awareness of own emotional triggers and can cope with own feelings
- Demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of Samaritans values
- Listening volunteers should be 18 or over upon completion of their training.
Timings:
We ask Night Owls to complete a minimum of one night shift per month.
12 midnight to 6am or 2am - 6am.
A car park is available or we can providea taxi if needed.

- All out-of-pocket expenses related to the role will be reimbursed in line with Branch Expenses Policy

General Admin role to support the charities core day to day activity and give support to the Co-Chair of the charity as well as the volunteer GM. The role will include issuing volunteer agreeements, making sure all policies are up to date working with the trustees, issuing thank you letters and logging donations. A good understanding of balance sheets, use of excel, excellent communication skills are needed and you will need to love dogs and love being organised.
