VOLUNTEER AT THE MOUTH CANCER 10 KM AWARENESS WALK IN 2024
This year’s Mouth Cancer 10KM Awareness Walk, on Saturday 21st September in London’s Hyde Park, is taking on a whole new look and we need some enthusiastic, reliable and pro-active volunteers to help us out on the day.
We know the Mouth Cancer 10 KM Awareness Walks are only possible with the help of volunteers. A lot of effort goes into putting on the events and the Charity needs lots of help and support to continue to make the day a huge success.
There are a variety of duties with various start and finish times, so if you can donate the whole day or just a few hours, we would love to hear from you.
Volunteer duties include:
ROUTE PREPARATION
4 volunteers are required to meet at Hyde Park at 0600 to mark out the route. Ideally with bikes, but on foot is fine too. There will be 9 KM markers and symptoms boards to put out around the park and various arrows to set out to show participants the way. As soon as the route is set out volunteers can leave. We expect this will be around 0800.
START AND FINISH AREA
Volunteers in the start and finish area are responsible for setting up the event, signing in the participants and breaking down the event once it is over. They also hand out the medals and goodie bags at the end as participants make their way through the finish line. We are looking for 8 people who can attend the site between 0700 and 1400.
ROUTE MARSHALS
We are hoping to have a total of 36 route marshals, working in groups of 4. Each group of 4 will be designated a KM marker point to stand at for the duration of the event. Route Marshals will need to arrive at the start and finish area at 0900 where they will be briefed and given a KM marker, (between 1 KM and 9 KM), symptoms board, Selfie Frame, Treasure Hunt information, bin bag, spare water and high vis jacket. Marshals will need to be in their location by 1000 and should be finished by 1300, when they return to the start and finish area to return all their items and sign out. Route marshals often help derig the event in the start and finish area at the end.
You will be positioned at a “cheer point” along the 10km route where it will be your role to cheer and motivate walkers and offer support and encouragement as they go past. Your presence alone is enough to motivate thousands across the line, and ultimately raise as many funds as possible through a positive event experience. Regular email contact and a full brief in are provided so you are fully confident of supporting this event.
Answer any questions walkers may have (you will be provided with an information pack about your point on the route).
WALKING VOLUNTEERS
Walking volunteers get to walk the 10 K event with the participants. We are aiming to have 2 front, 4 middle and 2 rear walkers who put the participants at ease during the walk. All that is required is that you are fit enough to walk 10 KM and the rear walkers often pick up the arrows around the route and return them to the start and finish area.
The Mouth Cancer Foundation appreciate all the volunteers who generously give their time to help us. If you are free between 0600 and 1400 on Saturday 21st September 2024 and can get to Hyde Park in London then we need you. For more information about volunteering please emaiil us.
This role is advertised as part of TPP's Free Giving Back Services. This volunteer advertisement copy has been supplied to TPP and applicants apply direct to the organisation. Please contact the organisation directly if you have any questions about this volunteer role.
