We're on the lookout for passionate volunteers to join us at one of our events. As a volunteer on the day you’ll be part of an amazing atmosphere and will support Mencap to make change through raising funds or engaging with your local community.
The Great North Run is the biggest half marathon in the world with over 50,000 runners taking part. Mencap has runners who have signed up to run and fundraise for us. We need you to come to our cheer point to give our runners big cheers and high fives on Sunday 8th September. We need volunteers to arrive by 10am and we will be finished by 3pm.We will send you more details about how to get there nearer the time. We will also provide you with snacks and water and a Mencap t-shirt.
Our community and fundraising events are vital to Mencap, bringing people together to share experiences, launch programmes and celebrate successes! They also often help to raise funds for our services, such as the Mencap Direct helpline, advocacy services, and national campaigns such as Treat me Well.
We hold lots of events throughout the year, including bike rides and runs from 10km all the way up to Marathons. We also do bucket collections, garden parties, Christmas wrapping sessions, and lots more!
We couldn't run these events without the support of volunteers, so by giving a few hours of your time you can help us to host events, raise vital funds to support Mencap's work and support people with a learning disability to live happy and healthy lives.
You'll be part of a diverse and inclusive team alongside volunteers with and without a learning disability. You will represent Mencap and help to promote our work and raise awareness for people with a learning disability at iconic events across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
As a Mencap Volunteer you will be:

- Willing to volunteer within guidelines and to take direction where necessary
- Accepting of others who might be different to yourself
As a Mencap volunteer you will:
- Make new friends
- Receive agreed out of pocket expenses in line with our policy e.g. travel
- Receive a full volunteer briefing and training on the day
- Volunteer alongside our experienced
- Have a chance to give back your local community

Are you looking for a Fundraising/Event volunteer role that makes a real difference to a local charity?
We are looking for event village and cheer volunteers to support at Worcester City Runs at Worcester Racecourse on Saturday 15th Spetember 9am - 1pm
At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £10 million a year to run our care services.
Being a Fundraising Volunteer is an exciting and varied role that helps us to raise money for the children and family we care for. There are opportunities to help at events - from marathons to our Fire and Ice walk, to Christmas markets. You could help with a tombola or raffle, set up and pack away, or simply cheer on participants. You could also stand in a location with a charity collection bucket, collecting change as people pass by or approach businesses to place a charity tin. Whether you choose to volunteer as an individual or bring your friends, family, or colleagues, all are welcome to #TeamAcorns!

Why am I needed?
We’re looking to gather a team of enthusiastic supporters to help give our Cardiff Half Marathon runners the biggest and loudest cheers on race day! We’ll have over 100 runners take on the half marathon for us this year – our largest team yet, help us to make it a special day for them!
We need you to help us motivate and support our amazing runners who are aiming to raise money for us – which will go a long way to helping us support people with cancer, and their loved ones.
What will I be doing?
General Event Support
Cheering on our amazing runners (and being louder than anyone else on route!)
Welcoming their families and friends to the cheer point
You may be asked to help set up our cheer station with our banners and flags
What skills do I need?
Good organizational skills
A fun, friendly and outgoing personality
Confidence and good communication skills
Reliability, flexibility and punctuality
An enthusiasm for the work of Tenovus Cancer Care.
How much time do I need to commit?
You will need to be at the Cheer point by 9:30am until at latest 2pm.
What support will I be given?
You’ll be supported by the events team on the day and will be joined by other volunteers too.

Volunteer with us at Solihull Malvern Park on 11th August
At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £11 million a year to run our care services.
What's involved?
You as volunteers will be supporting at the Acorns stand and engaging with our runners and members of the public
As a Cheer Squad you will be cheering our runners on as they fly round the course
You will also meet our Mascot – Alex the Acorn
How much time will it take?
You can come and volunteer between the hours of 8am and 2pm or join us for the the duration of the event
