Why am I needed?
Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help be the friendly face that looks after our customers by greeting them, assisting them and processing their items through the till.
What will I be doing?
Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering questions
Serving customers at the till
Accepting donations from the public
Putting goods on display in the shop
Maintaining high levels of shop standards, presentation and cleanliness
Generating add-on sales and Gift Aid conversion through high levels of customer service
Completing Gift Aid shop paperwork
Supporting the Shop Manager in carrying out shop security procedures
Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide
What skills do I need?
Strong customer service skills
A really keen eye for detail
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.
How much time do I need to commit?
We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form.
What support will I be given?
Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you visit the Shop Management team in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you.
Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to advise and help you select products you can use.

Join us in our new BHF Homestore in West Quay Retail Park opening at the end of July. We are actively recruiting and interviewing, with opportunities to volunteer in other shops until the homestore opening. The new site has onsite parking and good transport links, all roles will have great volunteer benefits and will be great timing for those wanting a summer opportunity.
Our charity funds around £100 million of research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them. Heart diseases. Stroke. Vascular dementia. Diabetes. They're all connected, and they're all under our microscope. Our volunteers help us fund lifesaving science to improve the lives of families and loved ones living with heart and circulatory disease. Volunteering with us is easy, flexible, and inclusive. If you can spare a few hours a week, or a couple of hours occasionally, we’d love you to join our volunteer team.
Do you have a keen eye for unusual or sought-after collectables? Do you know your way around online sales websites? Or maybe you would like to increase your knowledge of the world of online selling? We need volunteers to help us with our online sales in your local BHF shop, selling a range of donated items on various websites. Come and be amazed at some of the items that are donated to our shop, research the value of our most exciting donations, photograph them for online auction, or package them up to be sold. Full support and training will be provided but an interest in online buying and selling would be beneficial.
Just so you know, we are unable to accept volunteers aged under 16 or with unspent criminal convictions. Please note this is an unpaid voluntary position in a friendly charity shop.
Typical tasks include:
- Photographing items for listing on various online selling sites
- Researching donated items, to gather as much information on unusual items before listing them online – investigative work required!
- Creating informative and detailed descriptions and listings
- Packing and posting items to be sent to our online sales HQ or delivered to customers
- Helping the Manager to handle online queries from customers

Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.
How much time do I need to commit?
We’d need you to give around four hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. In particular we need help on Thursday morning, Friday morning and Friday afternoon. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form.

Job Information
This is remote volunteering opportunity, at hours to suit you. You will need to visit our shop or lock up facility in Acton and have access to an office on Montpelier Avenue in Ealing.

Job Description
The Digital and E-commerce Merchandiser is a new voluntary role, recently created to support the Charity Shop Manager to maximise income from sales of preloved clothing and household goods.
We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic, has an eye for spotting desirable items to sell online, is organised and good with online systems such as eBay and social media.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure all site pages are beautifully and strategically merchandised to maximize engagement and conversion.
- Work with the retail manager to identify suitable stock for selling online
- Photograph and list items online providing accurate, visually appealing and optimized for search.
- Package and post sold items
- Use analysis of customer behaviour, product performance reports, and sell-through data to drive decision-making processes.
- Manage and maintain trend and edit categories to support marketing campaigns and reflect seasonal trends.
- Provide monthly reports to support trading decisions, leveraging tools like Google Analytics and other analytics platforms such as Content Square.
- Gain an in-depth understanding of user behaviour and on-site customer journeys using analytics tools.

What will I be doing?
Volunteer Models
o We’re looking for models of all shapes and sizes to help showcase the incredible range of clothing available from our charity shops
o You will be required to provide your clothing size and possibly attend fittings in advance
Event Support
o Welcoming guests to the venue
o You may be asked to help set up banners, decorations, tables etc
o Sell raffle tickets, support with retail sales
o Packing up the event

How much time do I need to commit?
The Fashion Show on a Mission will take place on Friday 18th October from 7-9.30pm. We would require our volunteers to be at the venue from 2pm to support with setup or models from 6pm.
What support will I be given?
You’ll be supported by the events team on the day and will be joined by other volunteers too.
