What is a Community Connection Champion?

The aim of the role is to promote connection by developing and facilitating social groups and activities within the local serving community.

Tasks will include planning group activities that are sociable and of interest to the community. It also involves coordinating and delivering sessions. You will receive training and have support from a dedicated project officer as you establish a variety of groups.

What difference will you make?

Armed Forces life can bring its challenges when a loved-one is deployed overseas, or a family must move to a new location. Some people can find themselves feeling lonely or socially isolated, they may struggle to meet and connect with new people due to their confidence, work commitments or because they don’t live in Service Family Accommodation.

Community Connection Champions will play a vital role in tackling these challenges by creating welcoming, engaging group opportunities that bring people together.

What will you be doing?

Although every SSAFA Team has different needs, below are the main activities of a Community Connection Champion:

• Creating and Planning: Working with the Project Officer to plan, develop and organise groups and activities that are best suited to their local serving community.
• Communication and Teamwork: Keeping in touch with the local Community Volunteer Coordinator and attending s meetings.
• Networking and Engagement: Reaching out with those who are interested in attending activities, providing support and encouragement for them to attend, including those who face barriers to attending.
• Facilitating group sessions: Delivering group activities in line with agreed plans, signposting attendees to external support as required and in line with SSAFA’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
• Recording and reporting on activities: Sharing activity plans with the SSAFA Project Team, tracking attendance, and encouraging attendees to complete the relevant paperwork to support Project reporting and development.

What about training and support?

• Volunteers will need to complete E-learning courses covering topics including GDPR and safeguarding plus a 1.5hr webinar which focuses on understanding the impact of loneliness and social isolation, what helps to reduce those feelings and the skills needed to develop and facilitate groups.
• Support from a dedicated Project Officer who will work with you to plan and develop the groups and activities.
• Support from your local Community Volunteer Coordinator and SSAFA’s Regional and Central Volunteer Operations colleagues.
• Access to a range of e-learning courses, resources and local opportunities to keep your knowledge and skills up to date.
• Regular meetings and events to learn and share information.
• Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses.
• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFA's Public Liability insurance while carrying out their role.

As this is a new initiative, we are keen to understand what works to support the local serving community. We expect groups to run in the evenings and weekends, as well as during the week.

A typical group might run once weekly for a 6-week period. Face to face sessions are likely to run in community venues such as community centres but we also want to explore how virtual groups can be used to support those who can’t access face to face sessions.

Please note this is a volunteer role and does not form part of any contract of employment.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

What is a Serving Community Team Administration Coordinator?

There is a SSAFA presence throughout the serving community, both in the UK and overseas. In many areas SSAFA have Serving Community Teams which offer financial, practical, and emotional support to serving personnel and their families. Each team is formed of a group of dedicated volunteers who make this possible.

The Team Administration Coordinator keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes, supporting day-to-day operations. This is a key role involving organising and recording team meetings, supporting with general planning, and helping with events administration. The role also has voting rights for the grant giving process.

What difference will you make?

Volunteers are the lifeblood of SSAFA. We have been involving volunteers in supporting the Armed Forces community for more than 130 years. Our beneficiaries come from all backgrounds and age groups and the number of people contacting us for help rises each year. To continue providing help when it’s needed most, we need excellent administrators to bring teams together and support activities and operations.

What will you be doing?

Although every SSAFA Serving Community Team has different needs, below are the main activities of a Team Administration Coordinator:

Collaborating and planning: Working with the Chair and wider team to create an annual plan of activity based on local need.

Organising people and meetings: Providing administration for Serving Community Team meetings (at least four per year). This includes sending invites and recording minutes.

Gathering information and reporting: Helping to produce reports for SSAFA’s Central Office, including the team’s Annual Return.

General team support: Supporting members of the team with general administration tasks for example, helping with fundraising events, local engagement and publicity events.

Responding to enquiries: Responding to general enquiries to the team email inbox where needed.

This is an exciting time for the Fundraising Team as we aim to grow income and continue to provide our services to families. We work hard to deliver many income streams. These include community fundraising, corporate fundraising and individual giving.

We are looking for volunteers to join the Fundraising team and help with a variety of administrative duties. You will play an important role in giving supporters the recognition they deserve, and helping to organise fundraising events for those looking to take on a challenge to raise money for Candlelighters!

Key Activities

• Writing thank you letters, emails, and sending certificates.
• Providing administrative support & helping prepare resources, merchandise & equipment for events.

We try to solve the problems we’re struggling with in life from the big things to the everyday mundane challenges. We try to solve our problems individually and also as a collective community, tackling the problems in alternative and creative ways. We aim to be an intergenerational project - all ages and all kinds from families’ welcome.

Co-Chairs - 2 roles 

The Co-Chairs will act as a figurehead for Grow Your Life and represent us at meetings and public events. The Chairs will lead the committee in setting strategies and ensure that the committee fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the group.

Other duties include;

• signing cheques and legal documents

Secretary - 2 roles

The Secretary’s role is to support the Chairs by ensuring the smooth administrational running of the group’s board.

Treasurer - 2 roles

The Treasurer’s role is to oversee the financial affairs of the group.

The Treasurers will work with the board and any paid staff or volunteers to carry out the following tasks:

• keep accurate, up-to-date financial records.
• produce end-of-year accounts – or arrange for these to be completed and externally examined.
• check bank statements and reconcile them with the cash book/ current account book on a regular basis.
• ensure that understandable systems are in place for petty cash claims.
• ensure that bills are paid promptly, and all income is banked on a regular basis.
• report regularly to the committee on the financial situation.
• report to the Annual General Meeting on the end-of-year accounts.
• prepare an annual budget for the committee, working with the Chair.

Fundraising: 

Funding Bids Lead:

• Identifying funders and completing funding applications 

Fundraising Event Lead

• Events organisation (run funs etc)

Both Leads would link with the Treasurer and group to identify funding needs.

Volunteer Lead 

• Recruitment of volunteers including DBS checks etc.
• Liaising with all project leads and outreach lead.

Outreach and Community Building Lead 

• Contacting and attending local groups to encourage collaborations. 
• Outreach to recruit potential groups participants and volunteers. 
• Supporting potential group participants to engage (for example supporting someone on their first visit).

Media and Communication Lead

• WhatsApp - Sending out messages to keep people updated on our activities.
• Facebook - Posting events & helping grow our audience and develop our image.
• Instagram - Posting events & helping grow our audience and develop our image.
• Email / MailChimp - Newsletter updates.

• Reviewing our activities to ensure we avoid discriminatory practices.

• Linking with local food community groups to develop. relationships.
• Maintaining food hygiene standards.

Cooking Lead 

• Food hygiene / Health & Safety training offered.
• Cooking for group activities (usually between 5 and 20 meals).
• Organising group participants to get involved.
• Helping to make the cooking activities accessible.

Volunteers to support delivery:

• Cooking crew (chop and chat) 
• Come along and get involved - help prepare food, learn some cooking skills (if you want to)

• Organise gardening materials.
• Interest in a sustainable and holistic approach - bringing together people & nature.
• Interest in growing food to support the community fridge and participants.
• Interest in sharing gardening skills & knowledge.

Recent activities include: Sign language, poetry, creative writing, collaging, clay, felting, sewing, colouring, self-care, nail and face art, cooking, planting etc

• Developing systems to capture plans for future delivery.

Project Lead - Administration (overview) 

• Administration for planning sessions that are held every first and third Wednesday (occasionally flexible)

• Support with benefit forms / life admin support for members.

You'll be passionate about supporting others to change the direction of their lives, grow as individuals, and live life to its full potential.

As a Criminal Justice Dependency & Recovery Volunteer, you will work closely with Dependency and Recovery Coordinators to deliver a range of tailored activities to adult males who are on probation.

Assistingin delivering psychosocial interventions which address drug, alcohol addictions and offending behaviour. You will besupporting the person on probation to achieve their goals around their substance misuse and offending behaviour.

You will join a supportive team and receive comprehensive training and guidance to help you to develop in the role. This is an exciting opportunity where you will be making a real difference to the lives of others and gain experience of working with the Dependency and Recovery Project, and Prison and Probation field.

Key Activities:

• Support the D&R Coordinator to deliver recovery focused interventions including drug, alcohol and harm minimisation, offending behaviour, consequential thinking and developing positive coping strategies
• Support in key-working and group sessions
• Work in partnership with and build professional relationships with external organisations, e.g. Probation, Prison and Recovery Services
• Build therapeutic relationships with the people we support
• Empower the people we support to achieve their ‘Action Plan’ goals
• Motivate the people we support to engage in recovery activities within Change Grow Live, Probation and the wider community
• Research and signpost the people we support to Asset Based Community Services e.g. food banks, mental health services, housing, mutual aid
• Remind and empower the people we support to attend appointments and groups

The world's first bricks-and-mortar museum dedicated to vaginas, vulvas and the gynaecological anatomy are recruiting a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. 

As Treasurer, your responsibilities will be: 

• Attend monthly Board meetings and an annual planning day
• Fundraising
• Fulfilling administrative, financial and legal requirements
• Willingness to familiarise yourself with the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
• Be a challenging advocate, as well as diligent and passionate about the mission and work of the Museum

The majority of responsibilities can be carried out remotely, although occasional in-person meetings in London are required and we encourage trustees to visit the museum and meet their fellow trustees and the wider team of staff and volunteers.

There is no need to have trustee experience to apply. However, an interest in the promotion of intersectional feminism is necessary. The Vagina Museum holds and promotes the values of equality, diversity and inclusivity and we are seeking trustees who would be ambassadors to these values. We particularly welcome applications from Black and Asian people, and people who are trans or identify as non-binary as they are underrepresented on the current board.
