What will you be doing?
Job Summary:
As a safeguarding trustee, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our service users. You will work closely with our staff and volunteers to implement safeguarding policies and procedures, provide guidance and support, and help to create a safe and inclusive environment for all individuals.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic
- Consider the organisation’s strategic plans and make sure they reflect safeguarding legislation and expectations of the Charities Commission.
- Work with the CEO and DSL regularly to review and ensure charity policies are creating a safer culture and keeping people safe.
- Check the organisation’s risk register reflects safeguarding risks properly and plans sensible measures to take.
- Make sure there is space on the agenda for safeguarding reports and help trustees understand and challenge those reports.
Effective policy and practice
- Make sure there is a 6 monthly review of safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Understand the monitoring your charity does to see whether policies and procedures are effective.
- Learn from case reviews locally and nationally, to improve your organisation’s policies/procedures.
- Oversee safeguarding allegations against staff or volunteers, together with CEO and DSL.
- Be a point of contact for staff or volunteers if someone wishes to complain about a lack of action in relation to safeguarding concerns.
Creating the right culture
- Champion safeguarding throughout the organisation.
- Attend relevant safeguarding training events (virtually)
- Support the trustees in developing their individual and collective understanding of safeguarding.
- Support regular safeguarding updates for staff, volunteers and beneficiaries.
- Make sure you have ways of gathering the views of staff and volunteers in relation to safeguarding and sharing these with the board.
What are we looking for?
- Qualifications and Experience:
- 5+ years experience in safeguarding, ideally within a mental health/charity setting (essential)
- Previous trustee/governance experience is not essential but would be desirable.
- Knowledge of relevant safeguarding legislation/policies/procedures.
- Commitment to promoting positive body image and mental well-being.
- Understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals with body image issues and related disorders would be beneficial.
- Skills: Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and decision-making abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Commitment: Ability to commit time for board meetings, committee involvement, and preparation work. Expected to attend quarterly board meetings and contribute to special projects as needed

The Honorary Treasurer is a director of Healthwatch Bucks with specific responsibilities to:
1. Lead the Board in fulfilling its responsibility to protect the financial integrity of Healthwatch Bucks.

Financial Integrity
The Honorary Treasurer leads the Board in protecting the financial integrity of Healthwatch Bucks by:

Representation

Trustee role description
The duties of a Trustee are to:
- contribute actively to the Board of Trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy and defining goals
- to set targets, and evaluate performance against agreed targets
- ensure that Carers UK complies with and pursues its objects as defined in its governing document, the Articles of Association
- safeguarding the good name and values of Carers UK
- ensure that Carers UK complies with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations

- ensure that Carers UK applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects, ie the charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are

Nations Trustee role description
We are specifically looking for two Nations Trustees, one each for Northern Ireland and Wales. In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, the Nations Trustee will be expected to ensure that the Carers UK Board is informed on key issues affecting carers in the respective Nations.
In order to discharge this responsibility, the Nations Trustee will be expected to:
- attend the quarterly Nation Committee meetings and the Annual Conference
- establish working relationships with the Director of Devolved Nations, and with the Chair and other members of the Nations Committees
- represent Carers Wales and Carers Northern Ireland at some external events
- sit on recruitment panels as required.
Person specification
- Sound knowledge of the relevant Nation’s issues, the devolved responsibilities held by the relevant Government, its diversity and geographical challenges

- Be a Welsh/ Irish language speaker, or willing to learn (desirable)

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Faith to Faithless, an inspiring section of Humanists UK that raises awareness of apostasy and supports those who have left a religion in the UK.
After launching our dedicated helpline for the ex-religious, we have found that we are receiving a growing number of people registering for peer support. As a result we are expanding our volunteer team.
When a person contacts us and says they would like to attend an event of ours, they fill in a registration form and then they will have a ‘Safety Chat’. This is an informal online video chat with a member of staff or a trained volunteer. The Safety Chat Facilitator will explain how the services work and answer any questions the applicant may have. It is also an opportunity to make sure we are keeping the service safe for all of our service users. You will be checking to see if the person is appropriate for our services, and that our services are appropriate for them.
The Safety Chat Facilitators engage in the most important role within Faith to Faithless. They are the first point of contact for all of our service users, and they may well be the first person that an ex-religious person has ever spoken to about leaving religion. These conversations can be emotionally challenging due to discussing difficulties experienced when leaving religion, but they tend to be quite joyful too, as the ex-religious person is learning that there is a whole community of support available and friends to be made.
This is a wonderful opportunity to positively impact lives and help create a more inclusive community for the ex-religious.

The Role
We are looking for new trustees to strengthen and enhance our board. The key responsibilities of the role include, governance, overseeing policy and direction, financial oversight and assisting with the leadership and general promotion of We Are Family to support the organisation’s Vision, Mission, Values and needs.
This is a voluntary opportunity with associated Trustee expenses - such as travel / childcare - covered by We Are Family. Trustees can be based anywhere in the UK.
Commitment

Trustee and you would be joining the Board at an exciting time as we have launched the charity’s Strategic Plan with a new CEO supported by a small but strong team, which we will be building further this year. As a Dog A.I.D. Trustee you would be using your skills and experience to support our charity in achieving its ambitious strategic growth targets over the coming years and guiding its transition to becoming a larger, more robust charity with increased profile and reach.
Dog A.I.D. empowers physically disabled people by coaching them to train their own pet dog to become an accredited Assistance Dog. By focusing on the existing pet/owner bond, outcomes for our clients include:
· increased independence and self-confidence
· improved mental well-being
· reduction in social isolation
· reduced reliance on family members and/or carers.
· increased opportunities, with many of our clients being able to return to work or education, supported by their accredited Assistance Dog.
We are looking for Trustees who can contribute 2-5 hours per month, including attendance at online quarterly Board meetings and other ad-hoc meetings and strategic discussions. We are also hoping to have occasional in-person meetings and Away Days to build the trustee team. We are looking in particular to recruit trustees with one or more of the following skills and experience:
- lived experience of physical disability
- legal
- marketing/communications/PR
- volunteer management
- safeguarding
- disability and access rights

We Stand is the only national charity that specialises in helping non-abusing parents and carers to protect and support their sexually abused children.
Our Mission is to provide support in a non - judgmental environment for non abusing parents and carers of sexually abused children.
Our Services help families at a time of extreme trauma caused by child sexual abuse – providing emotional and practical support to young victims, siblings and non-abusing parents/carers so that they can move on positively with their lives together.
We are in exciting times as we develop new services across the UK and have recently launched a new program of work in Wales.
We Stand is run by a Board made up of Trustees. We are seeking committed and passionate individuals, we are particularly interested in applications from those with the following experience but also we are interested in applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences, to support our work.

Charity finance/funding experience - Individuals with day-to-day experience of setting and managing charity budgets.

Legal experience, ideally experience within family law.
Previous board experience not required
Expectations

Actively participate in board meetings (which occur once every 6 weeks, on Tuesday evenings), and working groups where required

Oversee the strategic direction of the organisation, supporting its development through good governance
