The board of trustees are jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Farm, it’s financial health, probity of its activities, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document and legal and regulatory guidelines.
All trustees should be aware of, and understand, their individual and collective responsibilities, and should not be overly reliant on one or more individual trustees in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity. For example, all trustees should be able to read the financial accounts.
THE ROLE
Main Responsibilities
· To ensure that the charity, and its representatives, function within all legal and regulatory requirements applicable, and in line with the organisation’s governing document, continually striving for best practice in governance.
· To maintain the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity.
· To take appropriate professional advice in all matters where there may be a material risk to the charity, or where the trustees may be in breach of their duties.
· To determine the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning.
· To avoid any personal conflict of interest.
· To manage and use the resources of the charity so as to optimise its potential.
· To ensure that robust systems are in place for internal financial control and the protection of the charity’s funds and assets.
· To undergo a thorough induction upon appointment and ongoing training to remain alert to, and aware of, their duties and responsibilities, and of the environment in which they operate.
· To achieve the purpose of the charity and to pursue the charitable objects, and provide public benefit.
Main Duties
- Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements, and acts within the confines of its governing document and in furtherance to the charitable objects.
- Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times.
- Promoting and developing the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its public benefit and recognising the situation when it may be more appropriate to wind the charity up where there is no longer a need for the charity to provide the services it does or because the charitable objects are no longer relevant to contemporary social situations.
- Maintaining sound financial management and control of the charity’s resources.
- Ensuring a fully effective and appropriate system for the recruitment, appointment and monitoring of the work and activities of the General Manager and, where applicable, other members of the senior management team.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, striving for best practice in good governance.
- Acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques (including any electronic transactions) and any applications for funds.
- To maintain absolute confidentiality about all aspects of the trustees’ business, bearing in mind the over-riding legal obligations placed upon trustees.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

- Knowledge of and interest in animals and community farms is desirable.
- Candidates who are local are desirable, but it is essential that you are able to travel to the farm for meetings, events and the odd day of volunteering.

With over 60,000 visitors a year, our five-acre site includes a farmyard, gardens, riding school, shop, café and small playground. We are seeking 2 passionate and energetic fundraising managers to join our team and assist us in raising funds and helping us provide more support to people affected by BPD. This is an exciting opportunity to join us, and help us develop our support services to help as many people as we can.
About Us
We are Borderline Support UK CIC, a non-profit organisation which is entirely volunteer-run and is led by our service users who are living with, or affected by, borderline personality disorder (BPD). We provide support and information to anyone in the UK affected by BPD. Every year we support more than 2000 people through our peer support groups and support services. We support people diagnosed with BPD, those who are living with symptoms, and their loved ones.
Key responsibilities
- Owning and managing fundraising activities for Borderline Support UK CIC

Time Commitment

Practical Considerations
You will receive training from the leadership team, and ongoing direction from a named key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete induction and basic training before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18, and have the right to live and work in the UK.

What will you be doing?
Main Responsibilities:
● To liaise with the chair and chief executive to plan, arrange and produce agendas and supporting papers for trustee meetings and for drafting the subsequent minutes

About The Powell Family Foundation (TPFF)
The Powell Family Foundation (TPFF) is an independent Foundation funded by investments and run by Trustees and staff who are passionate about improving the lives of vision-impaired children and young people.
Our mission is to support vision-impaired children, young people, and adults aged 25 and under by providing grants to individuals and charitable organisations. We aim to improve their emotional and physical well-being, increase their knowledge and skills, and support their independence.
The Trustees’ policy on grant giving is discretionary and aims to support individuals who are unable to otherwise afford the cost of habitation, assistive technology, knowledge and skills development or activities to promote well-being and independence. The charity accepts applications for grants from both individuals and other charitable organisations with similar objectives.
During our first year in 2023, we awarded over 100 grants totalling almost £650,000. This is an exciting time for the Foundation as, in 2024, we will review our first year and consider how we use our investment income of approximately £1m p.a. to achieve the greatest impact.
We currently have two members of staff (an Executive Director and Grants Manager) and seven Trustees including our Chair.
About the role
We are looking for an additional Trustee with experience in property management to strengthen our dynamic and committed Board. This person will maintain oversight of our portfolio of residential and retail properties and be a member of our Property Sub-Committee.
As a member of the main Board, you will play a key role in discussing and agreeing on the award of grants and the governance of the Foundation. You will also update the Board on matters relating to the property portfolio.
You will also advise the Executive Director, Trustees, and other employees on an ad hoc basis and develop a good working relationship with the Foundation’s property management company.
As a Trustee, you will help ensure we operate effectively so that The Powell Family Foundation delivers on its vision, mission and values and fulfils its legal responsibilities and requirements outlined by the Charity Commission. By playing a key role in developing the Foundation, you will directly support vision impaired children and young people to fulfil their potential.
Our new Trustee will serve an initial three-year term with the potential to extend.

We are looking for 2 skilled grant writer volunteers who can take the lead in researching appropriate funds and writing grant bids to help us continue offering our support services and resources and helping us create new programmes and services to support patients and their families who have been affected by a poorly understood chronic condition; Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).
As our Grant Writer you will be responsible for identifying appropriate grant opportunities, and managing the grant development and proposal process from research to submitting grant applications with any supporting documents.
As our grant writer, you will:
- Identify appropriate sources of funding where we fit their criteria
- Write appropriately tailored grant/funding bids that meet funders’ interests and requirements and to write any additional documents in support of funding bids
- Help develop a Trusts and Foundations strategy to help create and maintain strong and diverse income that meets Burning Nights CRPS Support’s funding needs
- Create a calendar of grant deadlines and track submitted funding proposals
- Help us develop a case for support
- Report on grant usage and impact
- Review all grant/bid feedback and ensure knowledge is shared, so that learning informs us for future approaches to grants

The Organisation
The Laurel Trust is a charity founded to support research and innovation for schools and academies in areas of multi-deprivation including opportunity areas, supporting schools serving disadvantaged communities to make a sustainable difference to children’s learning and life chances.
We have successfully supported over 40 imaginative projects nationally. This year we are funding further projects that will make that make a crucial difference to children’s lives and that excite and interest us.
Our recent interim strategic review has reconfirmed that our mission is supporting schools to further develop evidence informed practice.
The Role
The Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of The Laurel Trust, managing its resources and finances and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives, and goals in accordance with their agreed strategy, and legal and regulatory guidelines.
The statutory duties of a Trustee are:
• To ensure the organisation complies with its governing document.
• To ensure the organisation applies its resources exclusively for its charitable purpose.
• To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
• To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation.
• To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• To ensure the financial stability of the organisation
• To make full use of any specific skills, knowledge, or experience to help the Board make good decisions.
Person specification
• A strong track record of proven and significant achievement in one of the following fields:
• Charity governance with a clear understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship and an understanding of the respective roles of the Chair, Trustees and Executive Officers
• Charity finance, ideally although not essentially, with an added understanding of investment management and grant giving
• Senior leadership in a primary education setting with particular expertise in Special Educational Needs, disability and multi-agency support environment
• Educational leadership in any phase of education in areas of multiple deprivation
• Project leadership in a health and wellbeing environment
• Community engagement, particularly in terms of project management
• Educational research and dissemination or education publishing with specific expertise in preparing and assessing publications
• Policy making and/or influencing policy.
• A proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team while contributing an independent perspective
• Awareness of current issue affecting teaching and education.
• A proven track record of being able to process detail and get to the heart of an issue
• A commitment to The Laurel Trust’s values and purpose
• An understanding of, and commitment to, the values of accountability, probity and openness
• A willingness to devote the time and effort required to effectively discharge the duties of this role

Tanzania Development Trust - Recruitment of Two New Trustees
Tanzania Development Trust
Tanzania Development Trust (TDT) has been helping to lift people out of poverty in rural areas in Tanzania for almost 50 years. The demand for our services continues to grow, so we need additional Trustees who can help us expand and strengthen our own delivery capacity.
TDT sponsors 40-50 small rural development projects p.a., mainly in the areas of clean water, girls' education and small income generating activities. It also has longer-term partnerships with four flagship projects: a school for teenage mothers; community development through the training in sustainable agriculture and the provision of clean water; vocational training for profoundly deaf adolescents; and integrated infrastructure development in a remote village.
Its primary function is fundraising, although it provides general project management and business advice where appropriate. Around half of its income comes from individual donors, and half from Trusts & Foundations. It helps villagers in Tanzania who lack the capacity and language skills to present their projects to international donors, conducting project appraisals and monitoring project outcomes on their behalf. The projects are implemented by the villagers themselves, or by small local contractors.
TDT is run entirely by volunteers (17 regular volunteers in the UK and 16 local representatives in Tanzania). It has no paid staff, premises or overheads, so 100% of all money raised goes directly to projects in Tanzania.
The demand is enormous so we are looking for additional Trustees who can help us to grow by identifying potential donors, increasing awareness of our activities, and strengthening our project selection and monitoring procedures.
The work we do is immensely rewarding. You would be joining an organisation that is growing and adapting to meet the needs of a changing world, where helping poor people to help themselves is of great importance.
Job description
We are looking for additional Trustees who can help us to grow by identifying potential donors, increasing awareness of our activities, and strengthening our project selection and monitoring procedures.
We would like at least one of the new Trustees to help us with fund-raising by piloting more innovative and creative approaches. Experience of living or working in Tanzania is not essential, but to improve the Board’s racial diversity we would like at least one of the new Trustees to be of Tanzanian origin or have strong connections with East Africa.
The Trustees will be expected to provide direction and guidance to our volunteers in fund-raising, project appraisal and monitoring & evaluation work, and come up with new ideas about how to help our beneficiaries more effectively.
They must be willing to use their contacts and networking skills to increase awareness of our work, generate additional income and build strong partnerships with other organisations working in the same areas.
They will be conscious of changing opportunities for the rural poor in the mobile phone era, and able to think constructively about how we can use our projects to build capacity amongst our beneficiaries.
We would also welcome objective analysis of how to improve our own operations.
The position will involve around 20-40 hours of unpaid work p.a., mainly preparing for and attending Board meetings, and undertaking any necessary follow-up work. Our Board meetings, and the vast majority of our other meetings, are held on-line. Trustees wanting to add any additional functions to their work as Trustees will welcome to do so.

OVERVIEW
Poltimore House Trust is a registered charity dedicated to the restoration of an historic mansion just outside Exeter. Despite an arson attack which caused severe damage to the House, the Trust Board’s commitment to restoration as a focal point for the arts, business, communities and wellbeing remains undiminished. A new Board has been recruited over the last two years, bringing a wide range of professional expertise and experience to the Trust.
In addition to the House, the Trust owns 13.6 acres of the historic estate and established a popular Café in 2022 which was unaffected by the fire. The Board is committed to developing a strategy for the Grounds which blends heritage restoration, biodiversity and a unique visitor experience.
The Grounds are maintained by a committed team of some 30 regular volunteers, and a campaign is currently underway to increase recruitment. Corporate volunteering has also grown recently and the Trust is seeking further opportunities to develop this valuable area of support further. The Board recognises that, as a volunteer-led organisation, we need to build a positive culture which delivers high levels of satisfaction for those who give us their time.
We are therefore seeking a Trustee with appropriate skills to take the lead in the recruitment, care and deployment of our growing team of volunteers. This is a hands on role which will involve a presence on site for at least one day a week, as well as participation in Board and Committee meetings. In return, you will be a highly valued member of the Board, playing a key role in the restoration of this historic House and Grounds.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a Trustee with the skills required to deliver the duties and tasks outlined below, and to act as a full member of our Board.
The principal responsibility is to ensure a positive and satisfying experience for our volunteers, including their deployment on tasks which make a tangible contribution to the maintenance and improvement of the Grounds.

- To take lead responsibility for supporting volunteers.
- To liaise with the Lead Trustee (Grounds) in agreeing work schedules and allocating tasks.
- To arrange inductions for new volunteers.
- To put volunteer training in place where necessary.
- To help ensure that all volunteers feel valued, respected and supported, and that their skills and energies are being put to good use.
- To keep the Board engaged and informed about developments relating to volunteers.

Methodist Deacons are involved in ministry in churches and communities around the country, and are part of the Methodist Diaconal Order.
The Methodist Diaconal Order Support and Advisory Group is seeking a lay member of the Methodist Church in Britain. Members bring their skills and experience to join with other lay and ordained members of the group in supporting and advising the Warden and Deputy Warden of the Order in their roles and advocating for the Order.
There will be six meetings a year, most online but one in-person. Members are appointed for three years, renewable for a further three years.
