Context
With mission no longer being a “West to the rest” endeavour, and as Christianity has flourished in parts of the majority world, we have undertaken a prayerful review of our organisation, in order to discern our mission call for this generation.
We have rediscovered and been re-inspired by the pioneering spirit of our founders. We believe our calling for this time is to the “edges”: to the edges of society, the edges of church and to the edges of our comfort zones. To that end, we have been aligning our organisation and focus to play a catalytic role in facilitating movements of mission to and from these edges.

Taking a listening and reflective approach, as Chair you will draw out the diverse skills and wisdom among our trustees, ensure excellence in our governance, support the executive leadership in delivering our refreshed vision and play a role in strengthening our links with the Global Anglican Communion.

Term
This is a three-year term, with the possibility of re-election for a further three-year term. Internal applicants must be eligible to complete the initial three-year term.
Time commitment
Trustees are asked to commit to four Board meetings a year (3 hours), and an away day. The Chair would be expected to commit more time (estimated at around 1-2 days a month) to cover extra duties such as meetings with the CEO and trustees and planning and preparing for the Board meetings.

Vacancy - Chair of the Board of Trustees Barbara Bus Fund, Stanmore
The Barbara Bus Fund is recruiting for a new Chairperson.
The Barbara Bus Fund is a registered charity, which was set up in 1968 to help people who cannot get out or use public transport or an ordinary car, because they have a disability that necessitates full-time use of a wheelchair.
Today the BBF operates a fleet of 15 specially converted vehicles from Stanmore, Aylesbury and North Wales. The BBF is operated by a combination of paid and volunteer staff with head office at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.
The role of Chair is a voluntary position with the requirement to commit to one to two days per month, attend online meetings every 6-8 weeks and the AGM. The Chair will lead the Board of Trustees, chair committee meetings and the AGM.
Previous trustee / charity experience is required and the commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership. Previous experience within the health / care / transport sectors will be a distinct advantage however, other relevant experience and the right attributes will also be considered.
The BBF holds an annual meal to thank the volunteers and staff, and there are other periodic meetings and events throughout the year.

Position Overview:
As a chair, you will play a pivotal role in setting the strategic direction and governance of our organisation. Your insights, expertise, and commitment will direct us to fulfil our missions and aims. There will be a supportive onboarding process from the existing long-standing and experienced chair and continual support from the well-established board members.

Chair of Trustees – Friends of The Connection
About The Friends
The Friends of The Connection is an independent charity which is run by volunteers with the support of a part time administrator. The charity is dedicated to supporting the work of The Connection at St Martin’s with homeless and vulnerable people in central London. The money we raise goes to The Connection with very little spent on administration. Our current membership is about 900 individuals registered as Friends living in the UK and abroad. Of these around 600 are regular donors. On average over the past five years, Friends have contributed around £350,000 every year to the work of The Connection, including legacies.
About the Role
The new Chair will be expected to take the lead in these continuing discussions recognising the role that the Friends can play in raising awareness of The Connection, generating income from an increased membership and through fundraising activities at a local and community level.
A key aspect of the role will be considering how to attract new Friends, especially younger people, either organically or via targeted routes. The Friends wishes to increase the amount of money it raises for The Connection and also to heighten awareness of the work of The Connection. Discussions are taking place between both charities as to how this can best be achieved. The new Chair will play a key role in those discussions.

Objective
- Holds the Executive team and the Board to account to:
- remain focussed solely on the BRACE stated purpose
- remain compliant with all English and Welsh laws and the regulations of the Charity Commission. - Support the Chief Executive in ensuring both the Board members and Executive team work closely together to achieve the agreed strategic objectives.
- Act (in partnership with the Chief Executive) as an ambassador and the public face of BRACE.
Charity Structure
- BRACE the charity has a sole Trustee “BRACE Trustee Limited”. All members of the Board are Directors of BRACE Trustee Limited and act as Trustees of BRACE. There are up to 15 directors of BRACE Trustee Limited who for reasons of clarity are called Trustees.
- The Chair and Trustees are usually appointed for a fixed term of 4 years which can be renewed once, enabling Trustees to serve for a maximum continuous term of 8 years.
Meetings
- Board meetings are held 4 times a year plus 1 awayday. Each meeting is +/- 4 hours.
- There are currently 3 sub-committees of the Board (Scientific Advisory Committee [SAC], Finance and HR). The 3 sub-committees meet no more than one month before the board meetings either in person or on Zoom. SAC reviews applications for grants and makes recommendations to the Board for approval.
- Board Meetings are generally held in person in the Bristol area, online or hybrid meetings are not encouraged but can be facilitated.
