Board Treasurer Volunteer Roles

We are seeking four new trustees to become members of our board. Trustees ensure that the food bank acts in conformity with its purpose and with charity legislation, and that good governance, best practice policies and rigorous financial supervision are in place. They will be required to work collaboratively, with other trustees and with the staff and volunteers of the foodbank, and other external agencies.

Responsibilities:

• To help ensure, alongside other trustees, the effective governance and financial management of the charity in accordance with relevant legislation.
• To help set the strategic direction of the charity, and oversee progress against the objectives set.
• To prepare monthly and annual management accounts for the board and for the development manager to enable decisions to be taken with up to date and accurate information.
• To approve payments and ensure that suppliers and contractors are paid timeously.
• To ensure the foodbanks four staff are paid timeously, alongside pension and NI contributions.
• To ensure our charity is actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements. 
• To help ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations.
• To help promote the organisation to a wider audience of potential funders and supporters and in the community.
• To act with integrity, care and skill, giving time, thought and energy to their role.
• To help ensure that the foodbank delivers an effective and compassionate service to all those who may need it in the South West of Glasgow, from whichever part of the community they come.

About you:

We are looking for people who share our commitment to delivering the best possible compassionate and non-judgemental service to some of the most disadvantaged people in Glasgow. Our ideal candidates would demonstrate:

• Clear commitment to supporting the delivery of the best possible compassionate and non-judgmental service to some of the most disadvantaged people in Glasgow.
• Some understanding of issues around poverty, even if not in depth, and willingness to extend that.
• Experience at a management, senior or professional level within the third, public or private sectors.
• (Ideally, but not essentially) experience of involvement in non-executive boards in the third, public or private sector.
•  Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Willingness to actively participate in discussions concerning the needs of the foodbank’s beneficiaries, staff, and volunteers.
• Willingness to act in the best interest of the charity.
• Integrity, sound independent judgement and an ability to think creatively.
• A willingness to learn and develop.

Victim Support is an independent charity. We are dedicated to supporting people affected by crime and traumatic incidents in England and Wales, and we put them at the heart of our organisation. Our support and campaigns are informed and shaped by them and their experiences.
We provide specialist services to help people manage after crime and to empower them to ensure their voices are heard individually and collectively at a local and national level.
Our services help people affected by all types of crime and we provide free confidential support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for people affected by crime and traumatic events — regardless of whether they have reported the crime to the police or when it occurred.

The Role

We are looking for a qualified accountant with financial experience in the Charity sector. This person will sit on FARC, along with the Treasurer and other members of the Board.

Person specification

• Charity sector finance experience in either a staff or Trustee capacity.
• A qualified accountant and someone who has operated in a senior capacity previously.
• Committed to developing your knowledge and understanding of how VS is run, including engagement work with local or national services.
• Committed to supporting and promoting VS’s purpose, vision and mission.
• Understand and believe firmly in the work that we do and our values.
• Demonstrate strong leadership skills.
• A creative thinker and help VS develop innovative new areas of work.
• Committed to supporting VS values and equality, diversity and inclusion policy.
• An active member of the board, committing the time and thought needed.
• Understanding of how a large organisation works.
• Experience or understanding of management.
• Experience of working or engaging with more senior members of an organisation (perhaps at Board or senior management level).

We Are Family is an extraordinary peer support community for adopters and prospective adopters. We’re there for parents throughout their adoption journey. Online and in person, our parents’ groups, events, resources, podcasts and talks offer mutual support, information and inspiration to adopters and those considering adoption. The Role

We are looking for new trustees to strengthen and enhance our board. The key responsibilities of the role include, governance, overseeing policy and direction, financial oversight and assisting with the leadership and general promotion of We Are Family to support the organisation’s Vision, Mission, Values and needs.

This is a voluntary opportunity with associated Trustee expenses -  such as travel / childcare -  covered by We Are Family.  Trustees can be based anywhere in the UK. 

Commitment

Trustee capacity to devote the time needed for the following is essential:

• 4 Board meetings per year

• 2 Board away days per year (on a Saturday)

• Membership of at least one sub-committee (which also meet 4 times a year)

We estimate 8-10 hours for the charity per month. The duration of membership for a new Board member is for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of appointment for a further three year term.

Skills and Experience 

All applicants should be able to demonstrate the following:

• Be able to show high levels of professionalism and an ability to work collaboratively with others, including Trustees, our core team and the wider Volunteer network at We Are Family

• Be well-organised, with good written and verbal communication skills.

• Previous board/trustee experience is not necessary and we welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds. A thorough induction, and further trustee training as appropriate, can be provided. 

We are particularly interested candidates with the following experience:

• Working as a professional with or in the adoption sector,

• Advocacy and/or research work;

• Finance/charity finance

• Leadership within a charity

• Education 

• Legal.

Although many of our current trustees are adopters themselves, we are also keen to recruit suitably qualified people who are not, but who can demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission of We Are Family.

One of the great strengths of We Are Family is that we are volunteer and member driven, and we represent a diverse community of adoptive parents. We particularly welcome trustees from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds to ensure that the board can benefit from this diversity of experience. We would also welcome single adopters to the board.

Dog A.I.D. empowers physically disabled people by coaching them to train their own pet dog to become an accredited Assistance Dog. By focusing on the existing pet/owner bond, outcomes for our clients include:

 · increased independence and self-confidence

· improved mental well-being

· reduction in social isolation

· reduced reliance on family members and/or carers.

· increased opportunities, with many of our clients being able to return to work or education, supported by their accredited Assistance Dog.

We are looking for an active and well-organised Secretary who can provide support for our governance functions. You will be required to attend and minute online quarterly Board meetings and other ad-hoc meetings and strategic discussions.

Art History Link-Up is looking for a new Secretary Trustee to join the Board.

Our small Board currently comprises ten dedicated individuals, between them holding broad experience across several sectors and disciplines.

Secretary

• An individual with a legal background, or with sound knowledge of the area who can take the lead on compliance issues relating to constitutional, legal, regulatory and statutory requirements.

The Board of Trustees has responsibility for:

• Providing strategic oversight and leadership, ensuring that Art History Link-Up pursues its stated objectives.
• Ensuring effective and efficient administration of the charity, including approving the budget, defining goals and targets, evaluating performance, and taking appropriate action to manage risk.
• Taking a limited but hands-on role to support the delivery of certain elements of the charity’s work (e.g. marketing, accounting, recruitment).
• Ensure resources are used effectively to ensure the overall financial sustainability of the charity in future years.
• Contributing to and safeguarding the reputation and values of the charity and our partners, being an excellent advocate for Art History Link-Up and the young people we work with.
• Supporting our employees, freelancers and volunteers to help them contribute positively and professionally to the development of the Charity and its programme.
• Ensuring that Art History Link-Up operates in accordance with the principles of good governance, complying with its Articles of Association, its safeguarding and recruitment policies, charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

Successful candidates will be strong team players with a range of professional skills and personal qualities. You should share our determination to make the study and enjoyment of art history accessible to as many young people as possible.

We Stand are recruiting a number of Board of Trustee Volunteers.

We Stand is the only national charity that specialises in helping non-abusing parents and carers to protect and support their sexually abused children.

Our Mission is to provide support in a non - judgmental environment for non abusing parents and carers of sexually abused children. 

Our Services help families at a time of extreme trauma caused by child sexual abuse – providing emotional and practical support to young victims, siblings and non-abusing parents/carers so that they can move on positively with their lives together. 

We are in exciting times as we develop new services across the UK and have recently launched a new program of work in Wales.

We Stand is run by a Board made up of Trustees. We are seeking committed and passionate individuals, we are  particularly interested in applications from those with the following experience but also we are interested in applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences, to support our work. 

• Charity finance/funding experience - Individuals with day-to-day experience of setting and managing charity budgets. 

• HR experience 

• Legal experience, ideally experience within family law.

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

We are looking for additional trustees to help Uttlesford Food Bank meet demand for our services. Experience of strategy development, press/PR and/or charity governance would be extremely useful.  We welcome applications from current volunteers and partner agencies, but are also keen to hear from candidates not currently working with us who want to help their local community.

The Chair will hold the Board to account for the Charity’s mission and vision,

In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, the responsibility of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation's affairs, ensuring its financial viability and that the organisation has policies and systems in place to ensure robust financial planning, implementation, and reporting.

Trustee meetings are held in person every 6-8 weeks in order to contribute to the decision-making process.

We're also looking to find a Treasurer who has skills in finance, which of course can be from a myriad of backgrounds. Perhaps you're an administrator, work on payroll or manage budgets as a part of your job. Perhaps you're an accountant but haven't worked in the arts before.
