Feeling Strong is an exciting Dundee-based charity with the ambition to improve the lives of young people living with mental health and wellbeing challenges by fostering the skills, confidence and aspirations they need to flourish. Our services are designed by young people, delivered by young people for the benefit of young people, and we believe that this youth-led/peer-led approach is our biggest asset in tackling issues around mental health and wellbeing. We support stable recovery journeys for young people, lead campaigns to tackle societal issues, develop quality resources based on our own research, and tackle the disparity they face in unemployment, underemployment and accessing opportunities like further and higher education.

YOUR COMMITMENT

Whilst the Trustee Board meets for formal meetings 6 times a year, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the organisation more widely, taking part in fundraisers, external events, strategic planning and advising the staff team when needed. The average contribution expected of Trustees is around one hour a week.

Work-related travel costs will be reimbursed.

The charity has an annual income of over £4 million, employs over 200 staff and is supported by 300 volunteers.

We are governed by a board of trustees, each of whom brings varied skills and experience. Trustees attend four full board meetings a year and are usually invited to additional sub-committee meetings and other ad hoc meetings, providing specific guidance on key aspects of the organisation. The average time commitment is usually around 3-4 hours a month.

Trustees need to have the ability to think strategically, and to work collaboratively with others. Trustees help to shape and guide the future strategy and development of the charity, including the development and launch of exciting new services.

With an annual income of approximately £800,000, we sustain a team of 27 dedicated staff members and are supported by incredible 20 volunteers. About the Role:

As a Trustee, you will also serve as a Director of our limited company, playing a crucial role in ensuring the continued provision of high-quality services to our clients. You will work collaboratively with fellow Trustees to make informed decisions, attend board meetings, liaise with staff, review board papers, and provide guidance on our services.

Tanzania Development Trust (TDT) works in some of the poorest parts of Tanzania, helping people to lift themselves out of poverty by funding small projects that meet their essential needs.  

It sponsors 40-50 small rural development projects p.a. in Tanzania, mainly in the areas of clean water, girls' education and small income generating activities. It also has 3-4 larger, longer-term projects. Its primary function is fundraising, although it provides general project management and business advice where appropriate. 

Around half of its income comes from individual donors, and half from Trusts & Foundations. It helps villagers in Tanzania who lack the capacity and language skills to present their projects to international donors, conducting project appraisals and monitoring project outcomes on their behalf. The projects are implemented by the villagers themselves, or by small local contractors.

TDT is run entirely by volunteers (17 regular volunteers in the UK and 16 local representatives in Tanzania). It has no paid staff, premises or overheads, so 100% of all money raised goes directly to projects in Tanzania.

We are looking for additional Trustees who can help us to grow by identifying potential donors, increasing awareness of our activities, and strengthening our project selection and monitoring procedures.

We would like at least one of the new Trustees to help us with fund-raising by piloting more innovative and creative approaches. Experience of living or working in Tanzania is not essential, but to improve the Board’s racial diversity we would like at least one of the new Trustees to be of Tanzanian origin or have strong connections with East Africa.

The Trustees are all unpaid. Although their main job is the overall direction of the business, they can become involved in day-to-day operations if they so wish. We all work remotely, which helps us to engage with our local representatives in Tanzania in everything we do.

Smart Works is a dynamic, high profile and fast-growing UK charity that dresses and coaches unemployed women for success at their job interview. We empower each woman by giving her the clothes and the confidence she needs to succeed.

After visiting Smart Works, 63% of clients secure a job within a month, gaining financial independence and transforming their lives.

The Smart Works service is delivered in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle, Reading and Leeds. Over the past ten years, Smart Works has helped over 35,000 women. It is our mission that any woman who needs our service should be able to find her way to a Smart Works centre.

In April 2022, Smart Works launched a new Three-Year Plan that will see the charity double the number of women helped annually from 5,000 to 10,000 women a year. To achieve this, we will grow our existing centres and open new centres in areas of need.

Smart Works Newcastle operating as a licensee of Smart Works Charity, is led by a Board of passionate and dedicated trustees, who are responsible for the managing the service in the north east. About the role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Smart Works Newcastle Board of Trustees as a Shadow Trustee, someone who can gain experience from the current board in an advisory role. This is great progression into an official trustee role.  (A Trustee is a legal term for anyone in a position of trust or responsibility for the benefit of others.)

The Shadow Trustee will support in raising the profile of the Smart Works Newcastle service with the aim of helping younger clients aged 16-25 access the service, advocating for and being the voice of young people, helping shape the service to appeal to the younger demographic offering insight and advice. You really need to be able to put yourself in the shoes of a younger person and give that perspective.

This will enable us to continue to deliver our core service and increase the number of women we can support into work by dressing and coaching women for interview and job success.

This is a brilliant development opportunity for someone with the aspiration and potential to become an advocate for young people in the Northeast.

The time commitment for this voluntary, unpaid role is an average of equivalent of around two days per month, with more time given at busy periods of the year, we are flexible to fit around other commitments. There will be a requirement to attend board meetings four times per year (they are usually 3 hours) and share ideas with the staff team, join board meetings, take part in discussions and inform decision-making. There may also be some mini projects which may or may not include sitting on a working group from time to time. We also run brilliant events around fashion, support, coaching and sales which you can get involved in.

You won’t be thrown in at the deep end and you’d be given support and coaching by the experienced Trustees.

Personal Specification

The successful applicant is not required to have any experience just the willingness to support our Smart Works mission.  It is a fantastic opportunity to learn from and be mentored by the current board who will support and nurture them.  The successful applicant will need to be enthusiastic and able to communicate and share their ideas effectively.

They will be a voice for young people in the service. They should be able to advise us from a young person's perspective on things like clothing offer, socials and outreach.

As this is a voluntary, unpaid role it requires a self-starting and proactive approach with the capacity and time to challenge, engage and contribute to the work of the Board in a positive manner.

We are seeking a new Trustees to help us deliver our mission – one with a strong background in Finance. The applicant will ideally be from the health and wellbeing sector but this is not essential.

The Trustee will monitor the financial administration of the charity and report to the Board on its state of financial health, in line with best practice and in compliance with the governing document and legal requirements, providing the confidence and knowledge to better make strategic decisions.

Being a Trustee

IRMO’s Board of Trustees is made up of six to nine Trustees, who work together to ensure the charity is run properly. As a trustee, you will have the opportunity to support IRMO’s strategic development and oversee its finances. Trustees meet every two months (usually online in the evening) and are asked to commit an additional eight to ten hours between meetings to follow up on actions and provide advice and input on strategic documents and areas of work relevant to their areas of expertise.

General Responsibilities

• Stay up to date with and assess the political, economic and social contexts that affect IRMO’s work
• Support the development of and approve IRMO’s key strategic documents
• Annually review and approve IRMO’s budget
• Review, update and approve major policies
• Approve salaries, benefits, terms and conditions for staff
• Ensure that IRMO’s financial structure is adequate for its current needs and long-term strategy
• Ensure that the organisation has the necessary resources in place to meet its long-term goals
• Ensure that the Board of Trustees is adequately informed of the condition of the organisation and its operations
• Ensure that published reports adequately reflect the nature of the services and the financial condition of the organisation
• Approve major actions of the organisation, such as capital expenditure over authorised limits and major changes in activities and services 
• Review staff results in relation to IRMO’s aims and objectives, as well as annual and long-term goals
• Appoint, supervise, support, and appraise IRMO’s Director
• Provide candid and constructive criticism, advice, comments and praise
• Ensure that the Director has established appropriate policies to define and identify conflicts of interest throughout the organisation and are administering and enforcing those policies
• Appoint independent examiners/auditors subject to approval by members
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation affecting the organisation
• Annually review the performance of the Board of Trustees and take steps to improve its performance

Would you like to join our board and help us protect and grow the Kingston Women’s Centre? The Clinical Trustee role ensures the Clinical practice of KWC staff and volunteers are kept in line with BACP ethical standards and KWC’s Policies and Procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Strategic 

·  To assist and advise in the formation of the KWC’s strategy with particular regard to ensuring KWC has the clinical expertise to deliver the strategy. 

2. Clinical 

·To offer advice and support to the Clinical Manager in the development of KWC’s clinical services.

·To support the Clinical Manager in the development of innovative and developmental concepts for volunteers, staff and service users where appropriate.

· To assist the Clinical Manager, staff, and Board members in networking within the clinical sector.

· Where needed to support the Clinical Manager in the recruitment of Supervisors.

· To make recommendations to the Board of appropriate clinical changes to KWC’s Policies and Procedures and controls.

· To ensure the Board receives appropriate information on the activities that affect the clinical running of KWC. 

3. Governance

· To ensure the Board is aware of its clinical duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with legislation and BACP code of ethics. 

· To ensure all clinical policies, procedures and any appointment of external clinical advisors are reviewed on a regular basis.

· To monitor and report to the Board and offer solutions to any clinical concerns.

5. Key Qualities/Experience 

· Experience in a Senior Clinical role; ideally currently working in counselling, psychotherapy and or supervising counsellors and psychotherapists.

· Experience in developing Clinical Services and of working within the community.

· Good communication/interpersonal and decision- making skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively and constructively as a member of the Board.

· Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role of Trustee.

· An understanding and acceptance of legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship.

· Good independent judgment, strategic perspective, and vision.
