The Role

Trustee Duties:
- Support and provide advice on WORTH's purpose, vision, goals and activities.
- Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
- Oversee WORTH's financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
- Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
- Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.

- Provide support and challenge to WORTH's CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
- Keep abreast of changes in WORTH's operating environment.
- Contribute to regular reviews of WORTH's own governance.

As a small charity, there will be times when trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Trustee Board meetings. What we are looking for
We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking and skills on our Board of Trustees. We are particularly interested in candidates with business, finance and fundraising experience.
Previous governance experience is preferable but not essential. The role is open to remote and local applicants.

Terms of office
- Trustees are appointed for a two year term of office, with eligibility to renew and serve for two further terms to a maximum of six years.
- This is a voluntary unpaid position.
Time commitment
- Attending a minimum of six trustee board meetings annually, meetings are held remotely via Zoom once every two to three months.
- Attendance at ad hoc trustee meetings in addition to the minimum six annual meetings.

What will you be doing?
Mary Ward Settlement (‘MWS’) is seeking additional trustees to join its Board at an exciting time for the charity. Our award-winning centre in Stratford, East London is expanding. We are growing our legal and mental health services and expanding our range of exciting and innovative opportunities in education, to enable people to forge new careers, develop new interests and to join and enjoy a community of people with shared interests.

The Board meets three times a year in March, June and October. All but 1 meeting (October combined AGM/Board meeting/Award event) are held remotely. Meetings generally last no longer than 2 hours and with the exception of the October meetings are held on a weekday evening.

About NWR
NWR (National Women’s Register) is a membership charity aiming to stop social isolation in women. It was founded in 1960 by Maureen Nicol in response to a letter in the Guardian bemoaning how women became isolated when they gave up their careers to raise their children. Maureen set up NWR as an alternative to WI, with the aim of meetings focusing on non-domestic, stimulating topics. 60 years later NWR is still connecting women, albeit an older generation of +55 years, with 315 local groups and a thriving online community.
Trustee Role
Our current Board of Trustees are all members of NWR, and we are seeking a voluntary, external Trustee to bring a different dimension to the Board.
We are looking for someone experienced in working in the charity sector, in particular a membership organisation, and who is committed to our objectives. Exeter Food Action (EFA) is seeking to appoint one or more trustees with particular experience in fundraising, marketing or comms.
EFA is an Exeter-based charity dedicated to tackling food waste and food insecurity. We ‘rescue’ surplus food from supermarkets, producers and other sources, redistributing it to over 60 food banks and community groups in Exeter and across Devon. These organisations, in turn, support thousands of individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
It’s a shocking fact that, globally, some 1.3 billion tonnes of food are wasted each year. In the UK alone, up to 40% of food produced never gets eaten.
By preventing surplus food from going to waste, we aim to reduce environmental harm while making a meaningful difference to the lives of people living with food insecurity. The volume of food we rescue increases year on year and has increased fivefold since we became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2017.
In 2023, in partnership with FareShare (South West), we distributed just over 118 tonnes of food to 64 food banks and community groups, (equivalent to the weight of 3 Boeing 737-800 planes), supporting thousands of people every week. We anticipate that our 2024 figures will be the same, if not higher.
As a Trustee, you will:
· Help shape the strategic direction of our organisation,
· Ensure our resources are managed effectively and ethically,
· Attend quarterly Board meetings and other occasional events,
· Act as an ambassador for our mission within your community.
· Take a lead on a specific area where you will be supported by the wider trustee and staff and volunteer teams.

We are seeking three new Trustees to help shape and support the world-leading and student-focussed Rambert School to ensure it remains a centre of global excellence in dance education. We are particularly interested in those with skills and experience in the following areas:

Rambert school was founded in 1920 and is an independently registered Higher Education Provider with the Office for Students (OfS), having previously been a member school of the Conservatoire for Dance & Drama from 2005 to 2022. We are looking for five new trustees to join our Board and work collaboratively to support the Science Council to: strengthen the collective impact of the science community for public benefit; work effectively with our community of 35 member organisations (collective membership of over 320,000 scientists, technicians and educators); inspire and empower the science workforce to strive towards professional excellence.
