Oxfordshire Breastfeeding Support (OBS) is a small charity (a charitable incorporated organisation or CIO) providing free direct breastfeeding support to the families of Oxfordshire - via a mixture of virtual one to one appointments, in-person sessions, Zoom groups, a private Facebook group, antenatal workshops and work targeted at groups that are under-represented. Although founded as an independent charity in 2018, OBS’s work is a continuation of 12 years of breastfeeding support under the Baby Café umbrella. OBS is well known and respected in the community, with strong and valuable relationships with other service providers in the NHS, Local Authority and voluntary sectors. OBS is committed to being an actively anti-racist organisation, with a focus on social justice, equality, diversity and inclusion. We welcome people of all backgrounds, gender identities and life experiences to become trustees.
OBS is seeking to recruit a trustee to responsible for strategy and impact for a period of 2-3 years. In addition to the responsibilities of a general trustee, the strategy and impact trustee will :

Lead the development and review of the charity's strategic plan, collaborating with fellow trustees and senior management to set ambitious goals and objectives.

They are seeking a Treasurer with experience of working with not for profits in setting strategic financial direction. You would be joining the board at an exciting time, as they implement their new strategy, build on their campaigns and broaden their advocacy to mobilise greater support and achieve change.
In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, the responsibility of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation's affairs, ensuring its financial viability and that the organisation has policies and systems in place to ensure robust financial planning, implementation and reporting.
This is a substantial and responsible role, and would suit someone able to commit about 18-20 hours three times a year. Becoming a Trustee for Herts Musical Memories
Herts Musical Memories are celebrating there 8th Year of becoming a charity and we are now at last, beginning to recover from the Pandemic. We urgently need to expand our board to ensure that the charity continues to grow – the following provides some background to our work and lays out what it means to become a trustee.
Herts Musical Memories purposes are:
• To facilitate structured group sessions designed around the principles of music therapy and group singing for people with dementia and their carers.
Herts Musical Memories objectives are:
• To provide activities for people with dementia and their carers that help stimulate memories
• To provide activities that incorporate social interaction and peer support for people with dementia and their carers
• To reduce feelings of isolation for families coping with dementia and to provide access to artistic and social stimulation
What Herts Musical Memories values are:
Health, wellbeing and equality will be at the core of all Herts Musical Memories activities relating to service users, staff and volunteers and the wider public.
In relation to our service users Herts Musical Memories will actively promote equality for people with dementia. To free them from fear and isolation and to use our services to demonstrate to the wider public that people with dementia still have a place in society and should be treated with dignity and respect.
The Singing Sessions:

Herts Musical Memories provides stimulating social activities involving music, seated movement and singing for people with dementia and their carers. The charity runs 9 groups in 4 weekly blocks across Hertfordshire with an admin and song preparation session every 5th week. There is an average of 25 people per session with sometimes over 30 people attending. The sessions last 90 minutes with time set aside for socialising and light refreshments.
Most of the participants are dealing with the impact of an early diagnosis and are usually accompanied by a family member, usually a spouse. People who live alone often come with a professional carer.
Sessions are held at fixed dates and times in community centres or church halls. The venues are chosen carefully for ease of access, to be on regular bus routes, good parking and for having good facilities. This does mean that, sometimes the venue can be expensive, but the venue plays an important part in making the sessions a positive experience.
The sessions are structured to include a range of activities that are repeated each week providing the service users with a routine that becomes familiar with regular attendance. Songs are chosen from popular music from the 1950s going up to the 1970s. The sessions will include; songs that require movement, singing rounds where people get a chance to sing in harmony, rhythm exercises using percussion instruments and exercises in dexterity using bean bags.
The service users are taught new songs – incredibly due to the way the human brain remembers music, people with dementia can cope with this and actively enjoy learning new things – this increases their confidence and boosts their self-esteem.
The sessions are delivered by a professional group leader with the support of volunteers.
Finances:
Herts Musical Memories has no formal funding – we raise a contribution through fees which are £6 per session, we raise up to £10,000 per year through events held on our behalf another £5,000 through donations and the rest we have to fundraise for. To run the charity effectively we need to raise just over £10,000 per group. To help us achieve this we have developed a 5 year fundraising strategy. Our goals are to achieve enough funding to recruit a part time administrator, create a reserve of 6 months running costs ensuring a sustainable future.

What Does it Involve to Become a Trustee
Trustees share formal responsibility for the charity and must act in its best interests, regardless of how they're elected or appointed. Some trustees may take on specific roles on the board, such as chair, vice-chair, secretary and treasurer.
Herts Musical Memories meets 4 times per year mainly on Zoom but with some face to face in West Hertfordshire. If a trustee has particular expertise in finance, fundraising, HR we do occasionally hold one on one sub meetings with the CEO. No experience is necessary as there is plenty of training available – it is a commitment but it is a rewarding commitment. Becoming a trustee is about taking on a position where you can make a real difference to the people who live in your local community.
Top five traits of a good trustee
· A good trustee is ready for a challenge – running a small charity is always a challenge and supporting the CEO in facing those challenges is a vital role of a trustee. Whether it be support, advice or helping to access the necessary expertise that can support the charities development
· They are open and listen to many voices – there are many people prepared to offer advice and many voices to be heard, from the team running the charity to the beneficiaries. Listening and understanding enables a trustee to offer advice and help the charity seek solutions that will improve and enable it to reach its goals.
· Trustees are team players – running a charity is a team effort which is relevant from the Board through to the beneficiaries by working together as a team a charity is more likely to prosper and grow.
· Trustees have expert knowledge – this expert knowledge can be in training, marketing, fundraising, HR, Law or it could be in a first hand knowledge of the charities services and the impact it has on families and the ability to use that understanding to enhance the charities service for people living with dementia.
· They exercise good judgement and care – this is essential, working with vulnerable adults comes with a lot of responsibility. We need to be sure we work within the parameters of Charity Commission’s guidelines to ensure good practice which protects all involved from the trustees, staff and beneficiaries.
A good trustee also knows what they are doing within the framework of their role. At a basic level, they should understand and know how to act as described by The Charity Commission. The regulator’s ‘The essential trustee’ guidance sets out six main duties:
· Ensuring that the charity is working for the benefit of the public
· Compliance with the law
· Acting in the best interests of the charity
· Ensuring accountability
· Financial responsibility
· Acting with reasonable care and skill
It may seem overwhelming to become a trustee but it is, as mentioned so rewarding and the satisfaction, that as a trustee you are truly making a positive difference to people lives.
Please note Herts Musical Memories is based in Bushey, Hertfordshire (Hence why this is the position location listed), however meetings with trustees are typically held in locations within West Hertfordshire or remotely via Zoom.

You’d be joining an already incredibly engaged board of a growing organisation.
Role: Trustee, in particular trustees with a legal or HR background.
Remuneration: This is an unpaid role, reasonable out of pocket expenses will be covered.
Duration: Trustees stand for terms of three years, with the chance to be re-elected for a further two consecutive terms of three years.
Time commitment: We estimate the equivalent of 5 hours’ time commitment per quarter. The full Board meets once each quarter for an average of 2 hours.

What does the role of Trustee look like?
The role of Trustee is a rewarding, engaging, decision making one where you get to make a real difference, using your skills and experience to help our charity create as much impact as we can.
You will join a dedicated board of trustees who are ultimately responsible for the governance and finances of the charity, working together to make sure that the charity’s resources are used effectively to achieve its aims.
Board meetings allow the trustees to come together to fulfill their legal obligations, as stated in the Memorandum and Articles of Association. We don’t expect you to necessarily be familiar with the ins and outs of these obligations - we will provide you with support and training to navigate your responsibilities. The CEO and Executive Team are responsible for updating and providing the necessary information to the trustees to enable them to make their decisions.
Trustees are not expected to be experts in every aspect of the running of Heard, this is why we have dedicated employees to provide information to the trustees and specialist trustees such as our treasurer who has the financial expertise to guide the trustees when it comes to the accounts.
Our trustees also have the opportunity to sit on sub-committees depending on their areas of interest. Our sub-committees are currently Social Affairs, Finance and Human Resources.

- Attend quarterly Board meetings, read relevant papers and be prepared to make a contribution, working with fellow Board members as a team.
- Safeguard Heard’s reputation, and other intangible assets. Be prepared to act as a spokesperson for Heard, attending events as an ambassador for Heard, to network and promote the work of the organisation.

About us:
The Olive Branch Counselling Service (reg charity 1140475) is based in central Winchester, serving the community of Hampshire over the last 27 years. We provide subsidised counselling services for adults (over 18) who are experiencing mental health issues, via weekly therapy sessions. Our beneficiaries have gone through a range of difficult lived experiences, including loss, abuse, poor health and the current cost of living crisis. We’re a small charity with 4 part-time staff and aim to help 300 people in 2024. We recently secured a multi-year grant from the National Lottery, putting us on a more secure financial footing for 3 years. We still need to raise a further £30,000 in 2024. We have 44 volunteer counsellors supporting our clients, who are committed to helping people in need, and in turn we support their continuous professional development by funding their counselling supervision.
Role overview:
The Olive Branch Counselling Service is welcoming Trustees to join our Board of Directors. Trustees play a vital role in making sure that The Olive Branch achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that the service has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, the Trustees support and challenge the Clinical team to enable the charity to grow and thrive to achieve our mission.
Duties and responsibilities
• Support and guide our charity’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
• Approve operational strategies and policies, monitor and evaluate their implementation.

What we are looking for
We are looking for people willing to bring their time, energy, enthusiasm and commitment to The Olive Branch Counselling Service. We particularly need help in accessing more funding opportunities through sponsorships, grants, community fundraising and local business links. If you have skills or expertise in areas such as communications and engagement, financial management, fundraising or governance, we would love to hear from you. Most important is having the time and being willing to be pro-active with directly supporting the work of the charity. You do not need previous charity governance experience - a full induction will be provided.

The Welcome Centre is an independent charity providing crisis support in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. We run a large food bank operation providing practical support. We also have an in-house Advice, Guidance & Support team who work with the people accessing our food bank to help improve their longer term circumstances. Each year we support thousands of people in crisis in our community.
We have a small staff team working across two sites in Huddersfield, supported by more than 100 volunteers. We rely on the generosity of our community and partners to support our work.
Our Board of Trustees
Our Board is made up of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds. Together we set out the overall strategy, monitor progress against our targets and objectives and ensure that The Welcome Centre operates on a financially sound basis.
Trustees attend four meetings per year (usually held on Monday evenings), as well as an annual strategy day and our AGM. Most of us also take responsibility for particular areas of governance and lead one off development projects where appropriate. In addition, we encourage trustees to volunteer operationally if they can (occasional weekdays), in order to maintain a good understanding of what we do.
We are seeking committed and passionate individuals, we are particularly interested in applications from those with professional experience of Finance but also welcome applications from anyone who has empathy with The Welcome Centre’s vision including individuals who may have lived experience of food or family crisis. Secretary/Trustee
Who we are:
We are a long-standing (33 years) local charity, based in Ashford, providing friendly advice, companionship and volunteering opportunities for anyone in our part of Kent who is socially isolated, lonely, or would welcome support with their mental health and wellbeing. We arrange 3 free drop-in sessions per week at Ashford Parish Rooms, at which our service users participate in a wide range of activities including crafts, singing and art therapy. We also offer food and beverages from our pop-up healthy eating café and dedicated door-to-door transport where required.
Due to an upcoming retirement we are now seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees.
About the Role:
The Secretary will be responsible for the smooth and efficient running of meetings of the Trustee Board, providing assistance and support to the Chair. They will also be involved in monitoring compliance to the legal and regulatory requirements affecting the charity and its activities, and ensuring that the Trustees’ decisions are acted upon and that all decisions made by the Trustees are in accordance with the governing document, reflect the objects of the charity, and continue to provide public benefit. They will liaise with the Chair and the charity team to ensure that events such as the AGM and Trustee Board meeting are scheduled and administered, with accurate minutes taken and circulated and agreed action points implemented.
It is expected that all Trustees will be able to attend our Trustee meetings in Ashford, which are held at least once a quarter, as well as the AGM and ideally a small number of other functions eg fundraising events.

Our services help people affected by all types of crime and we provide free confidential support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for people affected by crime and traumatic events — regardless of whether they have reported the crime to the police or when it occurred.
Most of our services are delivered locally through skilled staff and volunteers who are deeply rooted in their communities. We adapt our services to meet local need and pride ourselves on being responsive to local demands. These services are closely linked into the National Homicide Service providing a dedicated, comprehensive service for those bereaved by murder and manslaughter and our national Supportline.
We are an independent charity, and our unrivalled national overview gives us the ability to share best practice and innovate in our services as well as champion victims’ rights from a strong evidence base.

The Role
We are looking for a qualified accountant with financial experience in the Charity sector. This person will sit on FARC, along with the Treasurer and other members of the Board.
Person specification
- Charity sector finance experience in either a staff or Trustee capacity.
- A qualified accountant and someone who has operated in a senior capacity previously.
- Committed to developing your knowledge and understanding of how VS is run, including engagement work with local or national services.
- Committed to supporting and promoting VS’s purpose, vision and mission.
- Understand and believe firmly in the work that we do and our values.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills.
- A creative thinker and help VS develop innovative new areas of work.

The Watford & Three Rivers Refugee Partnership is a great local charity looking for a volunteer to work as Assistant Treasurer supporting the financial operations of the charity. We provide practical and emotional support to refugees, asylum-seekers and other vulnerable migrants in our community. We have a pool of around 80 dedicated volunteers helping a caseload of around 150 individuals and families affected by immigration issues at any given time.
Treasurer role description
What will you do?
- complete an introduction for your role.
- maintain an awareness of how the Partnership operates.
- Maintain the accounting records of the Partnership to include the following:
- Arrange payment of all expenditure items through online banking and bank any income received by way of cash or cheque;
- Maintain a detailed record of all income and expenditure split between restricted and unrestricted and analysed under appropriate headings;
- reconcile the bank account at regular intervals but at least monthly;
- prepare the monthly payroll including all PAYE and NIC requirements;
- submit the monthly returns to HMRC and to the pension provider;
- maintain record of all gift aid donations and submit gift aid reclaim to HMRC at least twice a year;
- prepare regular management accounts for presentation to the trustee board; and
- prepare a simple budget each year.
- read papers for trustee meetings and attend each meeting.
- explain, guide and advise the trustees on the key assumptions and financial implications of the Partnership’s budgets, operational and strategic plans.
- ensure that the Partnership has an appropriate reserves policy and a realistic budget that meets the needs of the Partnership.
- ensure that annual accounts are prepared in compliance with SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) Accounting for Charities and submitted by the deadline to the Charity Commission and make arrangements for them to be audited or independently examined as required.
- present accounts at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in an accessible way for volunteers and staff.
- keep the trustee board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.
- monitor the Partnership’s income and expenditure position and present accessible reports to ensure trustees understand the accounts and implications.
- Ensure that the charity's financial integrity is sound.
- work together with other trustees and staff to further the strategic objectives of Partnership, including developing a fundraising strategy.
- take an active discussion during trustee meetings and work with other trustees to set policy and strategy direction, set targets and evaluate the performance of the Partnership.
What do you need to have?
You’ll need to:
- have some financial experience.
- some knowledge or experience of charity finances, fundraising, financial consequences and pension schemes.
- be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own.
- have good listening, verbal and written communication skills.
- be able to exercise good independent judgment and if necessary to make difficult recommendations.
- good numeracy skills.
- be able to explain complex financial information in an accessible way.
How much time do you need to give?
It is difficult to say how much time the role involves as the work fluctuates from month to month and during each month. However, on average we would anticipate an average of around 5 hours per week. In addition, the trustee board usually meets every other month in the evening. The role will be mostly remote however some meeting attendance is required.

Ladybarn Community Hub has existed for 40 years but has gone through several iterations in that time. The current charity has existed since 2019 and despite some recent challenges we are starting to build up our local image and develop the Hub into a community resource to be proud of. We're now looking to recruit trustees with experience of community work, charity governance, fundraising and bidmaking or trustee chairing to help us get to the next level. You don't need to have experience of all of the above as we're recruiting several trustees at once but 3+ years of experience in one of these areas would be preferred.
Ladybarn is a very diverse area, and our community includes lots of students, south Asian families and older Irish communities among others. We would like our trustee board to represent the community and we particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and other ethnic minority people and people with disabilities to apply for this post. We're developing groups like a Muslim men's mindfulness group and an LGBT coffee morning and having lived experience will help us tailor groups to appeal to different demographics. We're also particularly interested in trustees that live locally and care about Ladybarn and the surrounding area, but this is not a requirement for every trustee.

We're looking for a volunteer to fill the role of Trustee and as our Treasurer/Accountant sitting on the Board of Trustees at SUNSHINE. As our Treasurer/Accountant, you’ll lead on the financial management and controls of SUNSHINE, including creating financial systems, processes and policies, lead on banking related matters and register SUNSHINE with HMRC for both Gift-Aid and also PAYE.
You MUST have UK finance experience and an accounting qualification.

You will work with fellow Trustees to;
- Lead and participate in quarterly Trustee Meetings and actively take part in discussions and decisions that benefit SUNSHINE and supporting its impact in the community.
- Provide strategic guidance and direction to the organisation.
- Lead on all financial management and controls at SUNSHINE and Report on the financial aspects of the charity and answer questions at board meetings.
- Register SUNSHINE with the Charity Commission and complete Annual Reports and Audits.
- Register SUNSHINE with HMRC for Gift Aid and lead on the management of this.
- Lead on the creation of a Business Plan and a SUNSHINE 3 year Strategy with other Trustees.
- Lead on and contribute to the development and implementation of organisational policies and procedures with other Trustees.
- Lead on fundraising activities that generate much needed income, including grant writing with other Trustees.
- Support and advise the CEO, ensuring a good working and professional relationship.
- Manage relationships with stakeholders, including donors, partners, and community members.
- Ensure that SUNSHINE has the much needed resources and support it needs to carry out its much needed community work.
