Our volunteers get involved in every aspect of running our grade I listed property and small museum. They are responsible for helping to run the Box Office and gift shop, leading tours of the House, and are assisting with carrying out special events.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Opening and closing the house
• Welcoming visitors to the house and checking their tickets
• Lead guided tours
• Answer questions from visitors
• Supervision of the box office/shop areas
• Encouraging and collecting visitor feedback.

Requirements

• Strong verbal communication skills, including a high standard of spoken English, are crucial
• Dependable and punctual
• Be willing to take initiative and work independently
• An outgoing/confident personality is helpful
• An interest in Benjamin Franklin or a relevant subject such as History, Politics or Science is important

Training and Supervision

You will be taken through an induction process upon starting, which will include health and safety procedures, with opportunities for the shadowing of current volunteers to aid your training.

Time Commitment

We require volunteers to commit to at least three months, working at least one Friday, Saturday or Sunday every month.

Hours are 10:30am-4pm with a 1-hour break for lunch. Flexibility can be discussed.

What benefits can I expect to gain?

Our volunteers gain experience and insight in the day-to-day running of a small historic house, with a focus on front-of-house duties such as visitor engagement, tour guiding and box office.

Smart-casual. You will be provided with a Benjamin Franklin House volunteer badge upon starting each shift.

We would love to welcome you as part of our volunteering team to support the activities in our new Shop and Post Office at the Soane Stable Yard. New products are being created which will appeal to visitors to the Soane Stable Yard and those taking guided tours of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Together with the Post Office, the new shop will also offer a vital service to staff, Pensioners and Pensioners' families and the local community. The new Shop and Post Office will open at the Soane Stable Yard in early September 2024. We will need help to prepare the Shop for opening during August 2024.

We are looking for volunteers with a friendly attitude who enjoy interacting with a variety of people, who are passionate about volunteering and happy to work as part of a team.

No Post Office services will be required to be undertaken by volunteers.

Our partner protects in perpetuity a collection of ceramics, archives and manufacturing artefacts, covering nearly 250 years of world-renowned Spode pottery production and a global manufacturing site with world class assets.

They run a small visitor centre, shop and café on the former Spode Works site. Given its size, comprehensiveness and location on the original site, this collection is unique in the UK as the sole surviving enterprise in industrial ceramics and very likely in the world.

They are looking to bring on board someone, either as a Trustee or Advisor, with the experience and ability to inform business planning, strategic development and financial management.

The post holder will also oversee monthly cash flow and forecasts based on bank statements, sales and expenditure as well as supervising the preparation of annual charity commission return accounts and tax return.

The organisation are very flexible in terms of what the role may look like, dependent on who they appoint, with a minimum time commitment of 6 meetings annually.

Mast Cell Action provides support for people living with MCAS, unites the MCAS community and creates a cohesive voice; to lobby for awareness, universally available diagnosis and the best possible care for those affected.

Role Overview

The Medical Lead Statistician will play a pivotal role in advancing Mast Cell Action's research initiatives. This volunteer position involves designing and analysing clinical studies, interpreting data, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance our understanding of MCAS.

Key Responsibilities

• Study Design and Methodology:
  • Collaborate with researchers to design robust clinical studies.
  • Develop and refine statistical methodologies to address research questions.
  • Ensure studies are designed with appropriate sample sizes and statistical power.
• Data Analysis and Interpretation:
  • Analyse clinical and experimental data using advanced statistical techniques.
