About The Role
Would you like to help shape the future of The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland?
NYOS is seeking to appoint up to four new Trustees to our Board. We are looking for candidates who share our dedication to ensuring that Scotland’s young musicians, from all backgrounds, can access world-class classical music-making opportunities.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience of environmental sustainability, arts policy, public affairs advocacy, HR, orchestral management, marketing and communications, young people’s wellbeing/mental health, and EDI.
The NYOS Board meets four times a year, and each Trustee may also be part of a smaller committee or working group which meets up to four times a year. NYOS Trustees are asked to serve a four-year term, with the option to serve a second term.
No prior governance experience is necessary. NYOS will offer training and development opportunities, as well as 1-2-1 mentorship from an existing board member if required, to ensure you are fully supported in your role.
This is a voluntary role. However, NYOS is committed to removing financial barriers for all Trustees and can cover reasonable expenses for travel and accommodation, and remuneration for loss of earnings.
NYOS also recognises that there is a lack of diversity amongst the leadership of youth music organisations and the wider charity sector. We therefore encourage applications from underrepresented groups, a list of which can be found below. We look forward to hearing from you!

- Being an ambassador for the whole property and the National Trust. Helping visitors understand the full scope of the offer at Ickworth beyond the house.
- Learning more about Ickworth, so you can share your knowledge and stories of the family and their collections with visitors.
- Responding to the changing needs of Ickworth – supporting ongoing interpretation strategies in the House.
- Supporting with health and safety and evacuation procedures if required.
- Being part of a team that may need to adapt and change in response to local needs, National Trust priorities or changes to government guidelines

The Organisation:
Sir Henry Irving founded the Fund in 1882 with a number of other actors and stage managers. Over 140 years, Presidents have included Sir John Gielgud, Sir Lawrence Olivier and Dame Penelope Keith. We are thrilled that our Royal Patron has recently been confirmed as King Charles III.
The ABF is a membership charity with over 600 members who are from the acting or stage management fraternity. Members select up to 12 trustees from within the membership to govern and take responsibility for the ABF’s management and administration. Those trustees can appoint up to four additional non-member trustees on the basis of skills and experience they can bring to the charity.
The Board of Trustees delegates authority to a number of sub committees, including Grants & Services, Finance & Operations, and Marketing & Engagement. We ask trustees to join one of these committees.
For over 140 years, the Actors' Benevolent Fund has supported actors and stage managers experiencing hardship due to injury, illness or old age. To date this support has consisted of financial grants and benefits advice, as well as a listening ear. This support is delivered by a small staff team at Adam Street just off The Strand in London.
The charity world has changed significantly in recent years. Society rightly expects charities to deliver their purposes effectively for public benefit. The ABF has been going through a process of reform to maximise the help it delivers and to ensure it is the most effective and impactful steward of its resources.
The charity’s first ever CEO was appointed last summer, and a new Board of Trustees was elected and appointed early 2024 to take the charity forward into the future with a bold new ambition to increase impact.

The Role:
This is an exciting time to be joining the Board of Trustees of the Actors’ Benevolent Fund. The charity has been on a journey of transformation, with a new Board and strategy in place, and we are looking for two additional trustees to join us on this journey. These are incredibly challenging times for the industry, with an increased cost of living combined with a scarcity of funding for the Arts, resulting in fewer opportunities for actors, actresses and stage managers, and research evidencing mental health problems. There is a growing need to respond to the changes within our society and profession, and we are seeking individuals with the passion to join an inspirational team to make meaningful and sustainable change to our community.
We are currently looking for two non-member trustees, each with knowledge and experience in one of the following two areas:

Produced Moon’s board is looking to grow later this year, as we add new voices to our Trustees. We’re looking for regular trustees as well as a trustee to take the office of Treasurer.

Bright Shadow is a creative organisation where people with dementia and our supporters live well and enjoy making our own high-quality art in Kent and Medway. As we continue to build upon and develop our ambitious work, we are seeking a new Chair of Trustees to join our existing board, alongside new trustees including those living with dementia.
Who are we looking for?
In conducting a wide search, we’re hoping there will be people who put themselves forward that we may never otherwise have been in touch with. We are keen to hear from people with lived experience of dementia, whilst also recognising that other life experiences may give you insights and understanding that could help the organisation to develop.

We are working in partnership with The Salisbury Museum (a registered charity), located within the Cathedral Close at The King's House, a grade I listed building. The museum houses significant archaeological collections, including prehistoric material from Stonehenge; the Pitt Rivers’ Wessex collection; and a fine medieval collection including finds from Old Sarum, Clarendon Palace and the city itself. In addition, the museum has fascinating displays of costume and ceramics, and regular temporary exhibitions. The Salisbury Museum is also part of Wessex Museums, an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO).
The Board is now seeking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees. The Chair will lead the Board, fostering an environment for collaboration, good decision-making and effective governance. We believe the most impactful boards are ones that benefit from individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences and skill sets. The museum therefore welcomes interested applicants from all parts of the community and particularly those with a strong regional connection.
Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- Commitment to the purpose and ambition of The Salisbury Museum.
- Experience of working with or as part of a Board of Trustees.
- An understanding of fundraising in the charitable sector, and familiarity with the cultural landscape in Salisbury and/or region.

The Chair is expected to attend monthly Board meetings and other meetings at the museum (average one per month). The term for this role is three years with the option for reappointment for a further three years.

OVERVIEW
Poltimore House Trust is a registered charity dedicated to the restoration of an historic mansion just outside Exeter. Despite an arson attack which caused severe damage to the House, the Trust Board’s commitment to restoration as a focal point for the arts, business, communities and wellbeing remains undiminished. A new Board has been recruited over the last two years, bringing a wide range of professional expertise and experience to the Trust.
In addition to the House, the Trust owns 13.6 acres of the historic estate and established a popular Café in 2022 which was unaffected by the fire. The Board is committed to developing a strategy for the Grounds which blends heritage restoration, biodiversity and a unique visitor experience.
The Grounds are maintained by a committed team of some 30 regular volunteers, and a campaign is currently underway to increase recruitment. Corporate volunteering has also grown recently and the Trust is seeking further opportunities to develop this valuable area of support further. The Board recognises that, as a volunteer-led organisation, we need to build a positive culture which delivers high levels of satisfaction for those who give us their time.
We are therefore seeking a Trustee with appropriate skills to take the lead in the recruitment, care and deployment of our growing team of volunteers. This is a hands on role which will involve a presence on site for at least one day a week, as well as participation in Board and Committee meetings. In return, you will be a highly valued member of the Board, playing a key role in the restoration of this historic House and Grounds.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a Trustee with the skills required to deliver the duties and tasks outlined below, and to act as a full member of our Board.
The principal responsibility is to ensure a positive and satisfying experience for our volunteers, including their deployment on tasks which make a tangible contribution to the maintenance and improvement of the Grounds.

Role Overview

The aim for this service line is community engagement with a difference; working to create excitement about and around the Afro Hebrew community; and helping to get across to the rest of the world that the Afro-Hebrew community produces high-quality members of society. This service line will create a new way of celebrating Afro Hebrew culture, one that is fit for aspirations of our future. The Community Engagement and Racial Harmony service line is dedicated to redefining the celebration of our heritage, making it relevant for the world of tomorrow and resonant with the aspirations of our youth. Our mission is to foster a new way of community interaction that is as enlightening as it is uplifting, positioning the Afro-Hebrew community as a source of inspiration and a foundation for future success.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan and execute the Community Engagement and Racial Harmony strategy and service line:
• Cultural Events and Dialogue: Lead the creation of a flagship calendar of events designed to elevate the cultural and social quality of the community. This includes organizing a successful annual cultural festival with a diverse range of activities that celebrate and raise awareness of Afro-Hebrew heritage.
• Art and Media Collaborations: Develop and implement a series of collaborative art and media projects that involve community members, fostering racial harmony and showcasing the community's creativity and stories.
2. Measure performance: Keep accurate count of thenumber of cultural events held annually; the number of attendees to cultural events; the community participation rate in art and media projects. Including social media and other statistics; and feedback and satisfaction rates from event attendees and project participants. Provide this data to the Governance Team and Trustees on request.
3. Collaboration with Verticals Teams:
• Partnership Development & Collaboration Team: Coordinate with this team to identify and establishalliances and partnerships with local, regional and global organisations, businesses, councils, and thegovernment to acquire Community Engagement and Racial Harmony resources, speakers or information.
• Fundraising & Financial Management Team: Collaborate with this team to conduct fundraising activities and financial planning for the Community Engagement and Racial Harmony service line. Identify diverse revenue streams, such as grants, donations, corporate sponsorships, fundraising events for the Community Engagement and Racial Harmony service.
• Volunteer Engagement Team: Work with this team to recruit, train and manage volunteers to support the Community Engagement and Racial Harmony service delivery.
• Marketing Outreach & Advocacy: work with this team to enhance visibility of the Community Engagement and Racial Harmony service across social media, press, and community events.
4. Governance Team Interaction: Provide regular updates and reports to the Governance, Secretariat & Performance Reporting team. Ensure programmealignment with Barawak policies, procedures, strategyand objectives. Collaborate on monitoring and evaluation efforts to assess Community Engagement and Racial Harmony service impact and effectiveness.

We are working in partnership with the New Forest Heritage Trust (NFHT), who operate the New Forest Heritage Centre in Lyndhurst. Their charitable aim is to inspire visitors and supporters to explore and value the New Forest through their collections and archives, comprising a completely unique 50,000-item collection of books, manuscripts, documents, maps, objects, film and oral histories, and by providing educational activities and information to a broad range of audiences. The purpose of the Centre is to be a hub where local people and visitors to the New Forest can discover more about the history, customs, people, wildlife and future of this special landscape.
The Board is seeking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees. The Chair will be an inspirational individual, passionate in supporting the Trust through a period of very exciting change and into a fresh phase of their successful history. Museums and heritage sector experience is not essential for this role, but an understanding of charities, and a love of culture, landscape, community and social purpose are vital.
Successful candidates must also be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of charity governance and working with/or as part of a Board of Trustees.
- Experience of operating at a strategic leadership level.
- Significant experience of chairing meetings.
- Experience of external representation, with strong interpersonal and relationship building abilities, strong networking capabilities and be comfortable in an ambassadorial role.
- Interest in and willingness to learn about the museum/heritage sector and current issues affecting it.
The Board meets every quarter in person at the Heritage Centre, with meetings approximately 2 hours in length and usually held on Fridays starting at 10am. Beyond Board Meetings, there are commitments needed of the Chair, which range from periodic calls with the Director, occasional ad hoc video or in-person meetings, exhibition previews and events, and other times when visibility is important at the Centre or at occasional functions in the Forest. The expected commitment is somewhere in the region of 15 to 20 days annually.
