A bit more information about this role and the team

We are specifically looking for a minimum of 2 indoor fosterers.

We would also like to try and recruit 2 further fosterers to have outside pens, but these volunteers must have space to trial indoor fostering for a few months before we purchase pens for them.

Our meet & greet volunteers have the enjoyable role of providing a friendly, professional and warm welcome to all cat centre visitors, helping with any queries they might have and signposting to other volunteers and employees if needed. By providing a warm welcome to all visitors, our volunteers play an important role in helping more cats and kittens find their loving forever homes.

• Signposting visitors to the initial paperwork they’ll need to complete
• Passing on queries and requests to other team members as required
• Working as part of the team, alongside employees and volunteers

Time expectation

The hours are flexible to fit around your other commitments, with some weekends being a possibility.

Volunteer Position: Champion.
Location: Remote with occasional in-person event participation.
Reports to: Fundraising Manager / Region-specific Volunteer Coordinator.

Position Summary:
As a Champion for ROLDA, you will play a crucial role in driving our online and in-person fundraising efforts. This position is ideal for a passionate individual dedicated to animal welfare who wants to help make a tangible difference towards our rescue efforts. In tandem with the ROLDA team, you will lead initiatives, develop strategies, and inspire supporters to contribute to ROLDA’s mission, amplifying our impact.

Key Responsibilities:

• Fundraising Strategy Development: Collaborate with ROLDA’s leadership to create and implement innovative online and in-person fundraising campaigns.

• Campaign Management: Coordinate and execute engaging, high-impact fundraising campaigns, such as peer-to-peer fundraisers, social media drives, and seasonal events.

• Event Leadership: Organise and attend fundraising events, representing ROLDA in the community. Recruit and manage a team of event volunteers when necessary.

• Donor Engagement: Foster relationships with existing and potential donors, recognise and thank contributors, and cultivate new support channels.

• Social Media Outreach: Collaborate with the social media team to create content that promotes fundraising efforts and highlights donor stories and campaign updates.

• Reporting and Goal Setting: Set and track fundraising goals, prepare reports to measure progress, and share outcomes with the team to enhance future initiatives.

Requirements:

• Previous experience in fundraising, sales, marketing, or community engagement (experience in nonprofit organisations is a plus).

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to connect with a diverse audience.

• Self-motivated and able to work independently, managing multiple projects and deadlines.

• Availability to attend periodic in-person events.

• Passionate about animal welfare and committed to ROLDA’s mission.

• Ability to pass a background check.

Time Commitment:

• Flexible hours, with a minimum commitment of 5 hours per week.

• Availability for occasional in-person events in your area.

A bit about this role

At Cats Protection we passionately believe that neutering cats before they can breed is an essential part of cat ownership, and without neutering the UK’s cat population would quickly get out of control. Our neutering volunteers help spread positive neutering messages and make it easier for owners on low incomes to get their cats neutered. They help raise awareness of the benefits of neutering, promote our neutering schemes and respond to enquiries from members of the public.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Promoting the benefits of neutering and our neutering schemes
• Responding to enquiries about neutering
• Completing relevant neutering paperwork and distributing neutering vouchers
• Following up with cat owners to make sure that vouchers are used
• Ensuring all cats and kittens are neutered in line with Cats Protection policies and procedures

Support, guidance and keeping you safe

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.

The wellbeing of our people is important and at Cats Protection we are committed to safeguarding children, adults at risk and all those that we come into contact with as part of our activities.

Unfortunately, thousands of cats each year are abandoned or have strayed and rely on charities like Cats Protection for help. Becoming a trap, neuter and return (TNR) volunteer is one way you can make a real difference to cats in your local area. Our TNR volunteers help reduce the number of feral cats by raising awareness of our TNR programmes, setting humane traps to safely capture cats, taking them to local vets to be neutered, and hopefully returning them back to their territory. Local TNR programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities across the UK.

You’ll be:

• Trapping cats using humane methods
• Taking cats to local vets to be neutered 
• Returning cats to their territory or finding a suitable alternative

The role might also include:

• Regular feeding of feral colonies
• Promoting neutering by building relationships with farmers, land owners and local businesses
• Liaising with vets to promote and arrange neutering 

Time expectation 

This is a flexible role and the hours will vary depending on the number of cats identified for specific TNR campaigns. Our current TNR volunteers spend about 2 to 3 hours per week in this role which can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Why do we need you?

Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is a spectacular 1,400 acre wild reserve situated on the north Solway coast. From dawn until dusk, from January to December, in fair weather and not so fair, its open coastal landscape and wide skies are full of the sights and sounds of nature – and very little else.

The centre is deservedly famous for its vast flocks of over-wintering water birds, including around 30,000 barnacle geese from Arctic Svalbard and large numbers of pink-footed geese and whooper swans. Summer offers the opportunity to explore rolling wildflower meadows, watch ospreys hunting over the Solway and even spot barn owls and badgers.

We are involved in the maintenance of this internationally important wetland site. This involves maintaining and developing the various habitats that attract large numbers of migratory birds but also help develop the reserve to increase general biodiversity.

What will you be doing?

• Maintenance of visitor facilities including paths, hides etc
• General habitat management work across a multitude of habitat types
• Maintenance of screens and stock fences
• Maintenance of bird feeding stations
• Maintenance of hedges and trees
• Assist with wildlife monitoring
• General visitor engagement
• Occasional assisting with management of livestock/visitor centre work

Who are we looking for?

• Practical experience on a nature reserve and good identification skills is desirable although training can be given
• Able to work alone or as part of a team
• Good people skills
• Confident with communicating with the public
• Good level of physical fitness
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather

How will you benefit?

• Training opportunities will be provided along with the opportunity to visit other WWT centres across the UK

• You will be able to become part of the small but friendly reserve team
• You may be involved in role specific training such as strimming and brush cutter.

Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. The purpose of this role is to support the organisation with communications and administration at a local level. You’ll play an active part in the branch committee and support the branch with record keeping and planning, thus enabling more cats to be helped.

• Supporting the efficient running of the branch by ensuring administration processes are carried out effectively
• Supporting the administration and update of the branch annual plan 
• Sign-posting queries from members of the public
• Keeping branch records and information up to date and secure, using Cats Protection systems – training will be provided

Time expectation

Our support volunteers usually spend 2-5 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

We’re looking for creative volunteers to join our fun and friendly Volunteering team as a Social Media Volunteer.

This role will initially be home based but with some travel to Newport Centre. As part of this role you will be working alongside our team to assist in maintaining elements of our social media in relation to the advertising of cats we currently have up for rehoming You’ll need to have strong IT skills and be a confident communicator.

In view of this everyone should be vaccinated to prevent infection and we require that all RSPCA staff and volunteers must be suitably protected. Tetanus vaccination is carried out in infancy (3 doses), at pre-school and in adolescence so everyone should have had 5 doses by the time adulthood is reached. This is considered to give lifelong protection although a booster might be considered if an injury is deemed to be high risk. We request that volunteers must check their vaccination history with their GP’s and if fully immunised no further action is required. If a volunteer has not had the required doses, the GP should offer them free of charge as part of the UK vaccination schedule.

Our transport volunteers provide vital assistance to our teams and volunteer groups in the local area by transporting equipment, litter, food – and even cats! They have the essential role of connecting our network of volunteers, sites, vets and supporters.

Our social media volunteers use their passion and knowledge of social media to promote the activities of local volunteer groups and teams though various channels. They directly help cats by raising awareness of Cats Protection. A higher profile can help us raise the funds we need for our work, ensure people know they can adopt a cat from us, help promote neutering and help as many people as possible learn more about feline welfare.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Promoting the work of Cats Protection through various social media channels, for example, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
• Gathering information from across the organisation and locally within your team or volunteer group
• Writing and creating social media content, ensuring it complies with policies and guidelines
• Scheduling and posting social media content
• Monitoring activity and responding to comments on social media channels

What are the benefits to you and the cats?

You will develop new skills, expand your knowledge, and make a significant contribution to improving the lives of cats and kittens by raising the profile of Cats Protection through social media. You will also meet new people, make new friends and be part of a dedicated team of volunteers.

The Committee consists of at least three members of the Board of Trustees, and one or two external, independent members. It meets formally at least twice a year although our independent members often share their experience or are asked to provide advice every couple of months.

The role is voluntary, but we reimburse expenses.

Who we’re looking for.

• Someone with a passion for the Trust and understanding of our core purpose and strategy. Our ethos is based on looking after and sharing special places, and as a committee member you’ll have a valuable part to play in how this happens.
• Someone with extensive HR experience either gained in large complex organisations, or as an HR consultant. You will have worked at a senior level in organisations, across different sectors. You’ll have a good understanding of total remuneration and job evaluation methodologies.
• Someone that will share extensive experience, encouraging the things we’re getting right, and supporting us to develop ways in which we might do it better. It’s about enhancing existing strategies and helping us develop new ones. And it’s about making a real, tangible difference to the organisation and its people.
• Knowledge of the charity sector would be an advantage but is not essential.

Time commitment

The appointment is for an initial term of three years from January 2026.  The time commitment is approximately 2-4 days a year on Committee business, maybe slightly higher in the first year to allow for induction. Committee meetings are usually held in London, Swindon or virtually. You will be invited to attend the Committee’s next meeting in the autumn of 2025 as member-elect.
