BRANCH SECRETARY

RSPCA Crewe, Nantwich and District Branch

Do you have great communication and organisational skills that you could use to help a good cause? Are you passionate about animal welfare? Become our principal communications trustee and help us to maintain our branch affairs and improve local animals’ lives.

Overview of the role

As Branch Secretary, you would be in an essential volunteer trustee role. You would be a branch officer, acting as the principal communications trustee, managing and maintaining the administrative affairs of our branch. Using your expertise and skills, you will be able to influence how we care for our animals and drive forward the implementation of our key initiatives.

About the RSPCA

Founded in 1824, the RSPCA have been saving animals for almost 200 years and are proud to be the oldest welfare charity around. It has always been the RSPCA vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion, so our volunteers and employees work tirelessly to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering.

Through numerous campaigns, the RSPCA seek to raise standards of care, and awareness of issues, affecting animals today. The RSPCA rely heavily on volunteers who play a significant role in enabling the Society to carry out this important animal welfare work every day.

The RSPCA Crewe, Nantwich and District Branch

The RSPCA Crewe, Nantwich and District Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the national Society of RSPCA.

The main activity of the branch is to rehabilitate and care for homeless dogs, cats and rabbits that come to us via the nationally operated RSPCA Inspectors and from the public, until we can find them loving, new homes. The branch does not have an animal or an admin centre. We house our animals with fosterers and in private boarding. While rehoming is the main activity of the branch, we also offer limited financial help to pet owners on means-tested benefits who are struggling to pay for neutering or some vet treatments.

Branch Secretary responsibilities

•  Act as the primary contact point (primarily by email) for all branch communications with the national Society, the branch committee, and the branch membership.
• Attend branch meetings, ensure accurate minutes are taken, typed up and saved electronically, and distributed in accordance with branch rules and policies.
•  Ensure all branch committee decisions are recorded as part of the minutes.

Role Description:

•  Arrange the branch AGM including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations, and agenda in line with the strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.
• Arrange the timely dissemination of the contents of all correspondence and literature received by the branch, ensuring availability to all committee members, and reply to all branch correspondence where necessary.
•  Order and distribute RSPCA stationery, leaflets, posters and other fundraising and promotional material, in conjunction with the Branch Treasurer.
•  Liaise with representatives of the national Society, such as the Branch Partnership Manager (BPM) and group Chief Inspector, and notify them of all branch meetings.
•  Advise the BPM of all changes to branch facilities, services, and contact details.
•  To act as co-signatory, if required, on branch bank accounts and ensure that proper financial procedures are always followed, in line with charity legislation.
•  Submit recommendations for national Society awards to the BPM, in accordance with the wishes of the committee.

What we are looking for in a Branch Secretary

•  Aged 18 or over.
• You must have been a member of the RSPCA and our branch for three months before you are eligible to be elected.
• You must meet the requirements of the Branch Trustee role. Please see the separate role description.
•  You will need to be able to work well with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert, although commitment, common sense, and the ability to be objective are vital.
•  Good communication and networking skills.
•  Good IT skills are necessary as branch communication is primarily by email, documents need to be typed and saved electronically, and we operate a Google-based filing system. Ability to deal with general public, local businesses and other relevant organisations.
•  Reliable.
•  Very organised.
•  Able to maintain confidentiality.
• Sufficient time to give to this important role. As a minimum, you will be expected to attend the monthly committee meeting (usually face-to-face on a weekday evening, lasting 2 – 3 hours) to discuss the governance and management of the branch and its activities. In addition, there is likely to be a further 4 - 6 hours weekly time commitment needed to complete tasks between committee meetings.

Practical considerations

Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. This role can mostly be done from home, but we would like in-person attendance at our 6 weekly trustee meeting which currently takes place on a Thursday evening.

Our voluntary roles are subject to an informal interview and trial period. We will ask you to provide contact details for two referees, and dependent on the position, you may need to sign an agreement and undergo specific training before starting the role.

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.

The board of trustees are jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Farm, it’s financial health, probity of its activities, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document and legal and regulatory guidelines.
All trustees should be aware of, and understand, their individual and collective responsibilities, and should not be overly reliant on one or more individual trustees in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity. For example, all trustees should be able to read the financial accounts.

THE ROLE

Main Responsibilities

· To ensure that the charity, and its representatives, function within all legal and regulatory requirements applicable, and in line with the organisation’s governing document, continually striving for best practice in governance.

· To maintain the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity.

· To achieve the purpose of the charity and to pursue the charitable objects, and provide public benefit.

Main Duties

• Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements, and acts within the confines of its governing document and in furtherance to the charitable objects.
• Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times.
• Promoting and developing the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its public benefit and recognising the situation when it may be more appropriate to wind the charity up where there is no longer a need for the charity to provide the services it does or because the charitable objects are no longer relevant to contemporary social situations.
• Maintaining sound financial management and control of the charity’s resources.
• Ensuring a fully effective and appropriate system for the recruitment, appointment and monitoring of the work and activities of the General Manager and, where applicable, other members of the senior management team.
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, striving for best practice in good governance.
• Acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques (including any electronic transactions) and any applications for funds.

ABOUT DEEN CITY FARM
Deen City Farm and Riding School is an urban farm with an educational focus in the heart of the London Borough of Merton. With over 60,000 visitors a year, our five-acre site includes a farmyard, gardens, riding school, shop, café and small playground. As well as welcoming visitors who want to meet the animals and enjoy the setting, we also work with local schools and community groups to fulfil our charitable aim of improving the lives of everyone in the community. Volunteering is at the heart of the project and we also provide a work experience programme.

Trustee Role ( Branch Treasurer) RSPCA Chiltern Branch

Are you passionate about animal welfare? We are looking for an enthusiastic person who understands charity finance to support us in our mission to prevent cruelty, promote kindness and alleviate the suffering of animals.

We are looking for someone to volunteer as a Branch Treasurer for our Chiltern Branch. This role would play a vital role in supporting the Branch affairs so that it is governed and managed effectively, whilst continually having animal welfare at the forefront of our minds.

About our Branch

At RSPCA Chiltern Branch, our primary mission is to rescue and foster animals—predominantly cats—and provide financial support to pet owners in need of veterinary care. We are supported by a dedicated team of six volunteer trustees, an animal coordinator, and a full-time shop manager. Our successful charity shop in Buckingham helps funds our vital work.

We are seeking to recruit the next generation of trustees, including someone to take on the important role of Branch Treasurer. We welcome applications from people of all social and cultural backgrounds, aged 18 to 99. Our trustees play a key role in shaping our work and are passionate about improving animal welfare.

While we cover a wide area across Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire, trustees do not need to live locally, as most of our work is conducted remotely through calls and regular Google Meetings. However, if you are nearby, there are opportunities to assist with occasional tasks, such as delivering donations or meeting for a friendly coffee.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Treasurer

•  Implement and maintain sound financial systems.
•  Take a lead role in ensuring the committee set annual financial budgets and plan the branch income and expenditure.
•  Provide a written financial report for every branch meeting.
•  Liaise with auditors/independent examiners regarding the production of the annual branch accounts and the treasurer’s report.
•  Maintain control of all bank accounts as authorised by the committee.
•  Execute and operate branch committee financial decisions and act as branch co-signatory.
•  Maintain control over all branch paying-in books and receipt books and to ensure their correct use.
•  In the absence of a branch box secretary, to assume responsibility for the branch network of collection boxes.
•  Arrange payment of the annual branch contribution to the appropriate RSPCA fund.
•  Coordinate financial control of all branch fundraising activities.
•  Make quarterly VAT returns to headquarters promptly.
•  Ensure the production, monitoring and annual review of the branch’s financial risk management strategy in accordance with the charity commission’s requirements.
•  Liaise with branch officers, branch support specialist and Branch finance co-ordinator on Financial  affairs as necessary and alert them immediately to any possible difficulties or irregularities.
•  Ensure the retention and safekeeping of all branch financial documentation for the appropriate time as set by the charity commission.

What we are looking for in a volunteer

•  We are particularly looking for someone who has knowledge and experience in finance, who may already understand charity finance.
• As a trustee, you would be able to dedicate the time to attend monthly committee meetings, which last approximately 3 hours.
•  In between meetings, there will be additional volunteer duties such as; providing financial reports at committee meetings, monitoring the budget which has been set by the trustees for the year, processing payments, querying invoices, doing VAT returns, and processing Gift Aid claims.

A bit about this role

At Cats Protection we passionately believe that neutering cats before they can breed is an essential part of cat ownership, and without neutering the UK’s cat population would quickly get out of control. Our neutering volunteers help spread positive neutering messages and make it easier for owners on low incomes to get their cats neutered. They help raise awareness of the benefits of neutering, promote our neutering schemes and respond to enquiries from members of the public.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Promoting the benefits of neutering and our neutering schemes
• Responding to enquiries about neutering
• Completing relevant neutering paperwork and distributing neutering vouchers
• Following up with cat owners to make sure that vouchers are used
• Ensuring all cats and kittens are neutered in line with Cats Protection policies and procedures

Unfortunately, thousands of cats each year are abandoned or have strayed and rely on charities like Cats Protection for help. Becoming a trap, neuter and return (TNR) volunteer is one way you can make a real difference to cats in your local area. Our TNR volunteers help reduce the number of feral cats by raising awareness of our TNR programmes, setting humane traps to safely capture cats, taking them to local vets to be neutered, and hopefully returning them back to their territory. Local TNR programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities across the UK.

Volunteer Position: Champion.
Location: Remote with occasional in-person event participation.
Reports to: Fundraising Manager / Region-specific Volunteer Coordinator.

Position Summary:
As a Champion for ROLDA, you will play a crucial role in driving our online and in-person fundraising efforts. This position is ideal for a passionate individual dedicated to animal welfare who wants to help make a tangible difference towards our rescue efforts. In tandem with the ROLDA team, you will lead initiatives, develop strategies, and inspire supporters to contribute to ROLDA’s mission, amplifying our impact.

Key Responsibilities:

• Fundraising Strategy Development: Collaborate with ROLDA’s leadership to create and implement innovative online and in-person fundraising campaigns.

• Campaign Management: Coordinate and execute engaging, high-impact fundraising campaigns, such as peer-to-peer fundraisers, social media drives, and seasonal events.

• Event Leadership: Organise and attend fundraising events, representing ROLDA in the community. Recruit and manage a team of event volunteers when necessary.

• Donor Engagement: Foster relationships with existing and potential donors, recognise and thank contributors, and cultivate new support channels.

• Social Media Outreach: Collaborate with the social media team to create content that promotes fundraising efforts and highlights donor stories and campaign updates.

• Reporting and Goal Setting: Set and track fundraising goals, prepare reports to measure progress, and share outcomes with the team to enhance future initiatives.

Requirements:

• Previous experience in fundraising, sales, marketing, or community engagement (experience in nonprofit organisations is a plus).

Branch Trustee - HR and Employee Relations

RSPCA Milton Keynes & North Bucks Branch

This is an exciting opportunity to pass on your human resources and employee relations expertise whilst helping the RSPCA; promote kindness and prevent animal cruelty, reach out to more supporters, and influence how we do things.

There are currently 4 trustees, and we'd like to expand this to 7 trustee's. We meet monthly and we would expect you to be active every week within your role as a trustee. You would be responsible for a recruiting and looking after your team of volunteers and offer strategic direction in your specific area.

As a HR & Employee Relations expert you would be supporting the branch by helping them maintain and develop staff throughout the organisation. You would play a key role in advising Trustees on the long-term and strategic direction of human resources and contributing towards policy setting.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether the trustee takes on additional duties.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee – HR & Employee Relations

• Advise Trustees on the long-term vision and strategic direction for investment in human resources.

• Support the Branch grow, maintain, and develop staff throughout the organisation.

• Contribute to HR policy setting, strategic direction, goal and target setting, and evaluate performance  against targets, budgets, plans and charitable objectives.

• Ensure that HR activities and interventions are linked to the RSPCA Isle of Wight Branches charitable objectives and complement the company culture.

• Advise on and help improve management of HR.

• Ensure the Board of Trustees properly remunerates staff, reviewing and rewarding performance and development opportunities.

• To work with the Branch Manager to review current HR management arrangements and provide guidance on HR strategy and short and long-term direction.

• Receive progress reports on HR and any recurring staffing issues.

Volunteer Store Collection Coordinator

RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch

 Are you passionate about animals and eager to make a difference in their lives? If so, we’d love to hear from you! The RSPCA Suffolk Central branch has several volunteer opportunities available—come and join our team to help improve animal welfare.

 Our fabulous team of volunteers run regular store collections across Suffolk helping to raise valuable funds and spread awareness of our vital work and upcoming fundraising events. We are looking for a Volunteer Store Collection Co-ordinator to help plan and organise these collections in both the East Suffolk area (Felixstowe to Needham Market) and West Suffolk area (Stowmarket to Bury St Edmunds)

Role responsibilities:

•  Liaise with our Community Engagement Administrator on locations/dates required and ensure bookings confirmed with store/head office.
•  Co-ordinate with Store Managers on logistics/timings for the day.
• Book in volunteer collectors before each date (usually around 6 required for 2 hour shifts each), with assistance from Community Engagement Administrator and send information/reminders before the day to the team.
•  Prepare collection buckets with labels and seal with ties.
•  Deliver buckets, table and literature to a collector who is doing the first shift.
• Collect the buckets, table and literature from the last collectors and deliver the buckets to a Trustee to count/bank the takings.
• Follow up communications to volunteers, branch team and store manager notifying them of collection total and sending thank you’s.

What we are looking for

As a collection coordinator you will enjoy interacting with people and making money for a good cause, you will be;

•  Friendly and confident at talking to people
•  Experienced in retail and/or customer service although this is not necessary as full training will be given
•  Good communication and numeracy skills
•  Have access to a vehicle

Volunteering is and always will be at the heart of Cats Protection. It is joyful and inclusive. As a charity, working in partnership, together we transform the lives of cats, people and communities.

The difference you will make to cats and people

From elderly moggies to energic kittens, every day across the UK cats and kittens are in need of a temporary place to stay, and lots of love and TLC! We need more fosterers like you to provide a safe, temporary haven for cats and kittens and provide them with everything they need before they get their chance to land on their four paws and make a house a home.

You can expect us to 

• Make you feel welcome, included and respected in line with our values and behaviours
• Support you in having a positive and impactful experience at Cats Protection
• Ensure you have all you need in place to foster the cat(s) in your care, for example equipment and food
• Cover all your foster cats’ expenses and agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
• Provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you 

• A stable, safe and compassionate environment in your home or in a purpose-built pen in your garden provided by us
• Enrich the cats’ experience in care including play, exercise and appropriate handling/interaction
• A willingness to complete some training in order to provide high standards of cat welfare
• Introduce cats to prospective adopters so they can find their forever home

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.

Our cat admissions volunteers ensure the smooth running of our admissions process, helping our volunteer groups and teams admit cats into our care in the most effective and stress-free way possible for both people and cats. This role is undertaken from your own home. This could be the perfect volunteer role if you have administration experience, a passion for cats, or both!

Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection, we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Responding to email and telephone enquiries regarding cats coming into care
• Managing the cat waiting list and prioritising accordingly
• Liaising with other volunteers, employees, local vets and members of the public
• Using our administrative systems to record cats coming into care

Time expectation

Our cat admissions volunteers usually spend two to four hours a week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Store Collection Volunteer

RSPCA Suffolk Central Branch

Are you passionate about animals and eager to make a difference in their lives? If so, we’d love to hear from you! The RSPCA Suffolk Central branch has several volunteer opportunities available—come and join our team to help improve animal welfare.

Our fabulous team of volunteers run regular store collections across Suffolk helping to raise valuable funds and spread awareness of our vital work and upcoming fundraising events. We are looking for a Volunteer Store Collection Volunteer to help plan and organise these collections in both the East Suffolk area (Felixstowe to Needham Market) and West Suffolk area (Stowmarket to Bury St Edmunds)

We are looking for volunteers who could help volunteering at our store collections. Each shift usually last two hours and you can be inside/outside the store with collection/donation buckets and handing out leaflets.

Shifts cover:

10am-12noon

12noon-2pm

2pm-4pm

What we are looking for in a Store Collection Volunteer

•  No experience is necessary as we will provide you with the guidance you need.
•  Friendly and approachable.
• Someone who is flexible and can offer an ongoing commitment.

Our voluntary roles are subject to an informal interview and trial period. We may ask you to provide contact details for two referees and depending on the position you may be required to sign an agreement and undergo specific training before starting the role.
