We are the RSPCA and it's our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion. Our volunteers are incredible, they play an essential role in helping us carry out our important animal welfare work every day.

Our fosterers play a vital role by providing a temporary home for animals that are in the care of the RSPCA, either during rehabilitation or whilst they are waiting for a suitable permanent home to be found.

You could be fostering an animal for just a few weeks, or it could be a longer-term placement for several months or more.

What you will be doing

• Providing care and suitable housing in a safe environment for dog/s while they are in foster care in accordance with Society policies and guidelines
• Feeding, watering, exercising, providing enrichment and grooming dog/s (as appropriate)
• Keeping accurate records of expenditure on fostered animals, via receipts and completed expense forms
• Completing records/daily observations in relation to behaviour and health and liaising with your Foster Coordinator when needed
• For dogs ready for rehoming: raising awareness about animals in your care with the hope of rehoming them (including sharing images and videos with your local contact/team)
• For dogs' subject to an RSPCA case: using discretion (where needed) if the animal has specific needs or reasons for being in your care
• Transporting your foster dog for appointments, vet consultations, behaviour training etc

The skills you need

• Volunteers must be aged 18 or over
• Experience of caring for dogs is desirable
• Previous experience of fostering would be beneficial
• You will need a secure garden and plenty of time to spend with the dog/s
• Your family/household must be fully supportive
• If in rented accommodation, permission from the landlord must be obtained
• If you have existing dogs it is preferred that they be spayed/neutered (unless there are medical reasons why they can’t be), but this can be discussed on a case by case basis
• If you have existing dogs, multiple greets/bonding sessions between the dogs must take place

About Us: Margaret Green Animal Rescue, the oldest and largest Dorset-based Animal Welfare Charity, is dedicated to providing the highest standards of animal care. With Rescue & Rehoming Centres in both Dorset and Devon, we serve those animals in need of rescue with compassion and commitment. Our network of Charity Shops across Dorset generates vital income to support our mission.

What We’re Looking For: As we embark on an exciting strategic revitalisation phase, we’re seeking to expand our Board of Trustees (currently comprising 6 trustees). We aim to strengthen the range of trustee skills available to support the charity in achieving its objectives. If you’re passionate about animal welfare and possess expertise in any of the following areas, we’d love to hear from you:

1. Accountant, Treasurer or strong finance background
2. Chartered Surveyor (or experienced land agent): Bring your insights into property matters and land management.
3. High Street Retail Expert: Provide guidance on our charity shop operations.
4. Veterinary expertise: Helping to provide oversight and input on animal welfare issues

Role Responsibilities: As a trustee, you’ll contribute your professional expertise to provide strategic direction and expert input. Your responsibilities will include:

• Governance: Overseeing the charity’s activities and ensuring compliance.
• Strategic Guidance: Defining the strategy and supporting the charity in achieving its goals.
• Collaboration: Working alongside our Chief Executive and senior management team, sharing your expertise and helping to bridge any skills gaps in our tight, efficient central team, so that we can make best use of the charitable donations we receive to help animals.

Time Commitment: Expect to dedicate 1-2 days per month to help shape our future strategy, provide your expert input and govern the charity. We hold face-to-face meetings in Dorset and Devon approximately six times a year. Living within an hour of our main Wareham site in Dorset is ideal. Additionally, we have regular ad-hoc online meetings, typically one evening every 6-8 weeks.

International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals (IAPWA) is a UK-registered animal welfare charity dedicated to creating a better future for animals in need.

Our first project, established in 2009, is based in Borneo where we provide a lifeline to thousands of dogs and cats every year in need of veterinary care and support. Our companion animal projects and support programmes for other species have since developed in other parts of the world, including Romania, Penang Island, the Philippines, and Tanzania.

What You'll Do:

• Engage your network: Reach out to friends, family, and colleagues to gather preloved items for auction. You’ll help give things a second life while raising funds for animals in need!

• Connect with your community: Tap into local Freecycle groups, social media, and even your neighborhood to find exciting items to auction.

• Spread the word: Share the auctions within your network to encourage bidding and excitement around the cause.

• Admin support: Organise and help to maintain our donation inventory, ensuring that all items are properly cataloged, stored, and ready for auction or sale.

• Make a direct impact: Every item you help secure means more funds for our charity, which go toward animal care, rescue operations, and rehoming programs.

You will be working directly with THL UK staff members who will steward and support you throughout your time with us. ANIMAL WELFARE CO-ORDINATOR

RSPCA Middlesborough, Teesside & District Branch

Are you passionate about helping animals in your community?  Would you like to do something meaningful with your free time?  The RSPCA needs people like you so that we can improve animal welfare in Middlesbrough and Teesside.

We are looking for volunteers to run our animal welfare programs.  These may include offering discounted Neutering, managing colonies of feral cats, or guiding people on how to adopt a dog.  You will have direct contact with the public, work closely with local vets and liaise with the RSPCA Inspectors.  You will be dealing with all the enquiries we receive via email and deciding how we should respond.  In some cases it will be walking the person through the steps of our current programs, in other cases it will be working out how to respond to an unusual request - no two days will be the same.

This is a co-ordinating role which can be done remotely with a computer and a phone.  If you live locally, you may also want to meet vets or other partners face to face to better understand their operations and build partnerships.  You will be the beating heart of our contribution to animal welfare in your community.  You won’t be on your own. You’ll be joining a team of motivated people who use their skills and love of animals to do something meaningful and have fun at the same time. 

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

You’ll monitor our public email account and respond to all enquiries.  You will co-ordinate with the public and local vets to execute our current animal welfare programs such as neutering and microchipping.  This involves checking to see if an applicant meets the program criteria, finding a local vet who can help, and arranging vouchers to pay for the services.  When enquiries are beyond the scope of our current programs you will guide people on where to go for help, or ask RSPCA Inspectors for their guidance (training will be provided) and keep records of the enquiries and your response.  This role can be done remotely and is completely flexible based on how much time you have and when you are available.

Are you good at DIY or a skilled tradesperson? We're looking for volunteers who can support the upkeep and maintenance of Greater Manchester Animal Hospital on an as-needed basis.

Key tasks:

• Assist with basic maintenance tasks, such as painting and fixing minor repairs in and around the hospital
• Help maintain the outdoor space around the hospital, including litter-picking and other light landscaping work
• Identify larger maintenance issues to the Hospital Manager

Time commitment:

• This role is flexible, based on your availability and the Centre's needs
• Tasks will arise on an ad-hoc basis and we will contact you when support is needed, however we normally operate a Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm working pattern.

You must abide by all health and safety guidelines so before you can start you'll need to attend the appropriate training courses as directed by the hospital if required.

If you want to keep active, make new friends or use your skills to help others this role might be perfect for you. We are happy to reimburse you for any agreed travel costs that you may incur whilst volunteering with us.

What you will be doing

• A wide range of interior and exterior maintenance tasks
• Painting, carpentry and other DIY jobs around the centre
• Helping with any new projects
• Preparing the site for open days and other events

The skills you need

• Volunteers must be aged 18 or over
• Willingness to pitch in, help out, and get your hands dirty
• Experience in a relevant trade is desirable but not essential as full training will be given
• Some heavy lifting will be involved but full H&S training will be given
• Enjoy being in and outdoors
• Good communicator and willing to follow H&S instructions

Tetanus is a life threatening bacterial disease caused by an infection in an open wound. All volunteers must be suitably protected. We recommend that volunteers check their vaccination history with their GP. If a volunteer has not had the required doses, the GP should offer them free of charge as part of the UK vaccination schedule.

As a Grassroots Organiser, you will be changing animal lives by:

• Organising events/actions in your local area including social meet-ups, peaceful protests, leafleting and public outreach (roughly 1 event every 6-8 weeks is ideal where possible). All materials are provided and relevant expenses paid.

• Promote your events/actions and encourage others to join you, bringing people together for the animals to create change

• Joining us at other in-person events/actions including peaceful protests organised by staff and other volunteers

• Get involved in campaign actions remotely, such as writing emails, letters, social media actions and more

• Attend online events within the volunteer community

The events and actions you organise don't need to be big, 2 or 3 people getting out there for the animals will make all the difference and we have an existing community of volunteers to tap into.

Perfect for those interested in gaining firsthand experience in campaigning or volunteer management, or just interested in creating direct change for animals. If you’re excited by the prospect of speaking to the public and taking the lead to organise local actions, all while making a genuine difference to animals, this is the role for you.

You will be working directly with THL UK staff members who will steward and support you throughout your time with us, including a full onboarding process to get you started. We'll give you everything you need, no prior experience needed.

There is no set time commitment for this role, you can get involved at a time that works for you, but we ask that you organise at least 1 event every 6-8 weeks where possible. It takes around 4-6 hours to deliver an event (including planning and delivery). Whether you're a student, retired, working full time, or somewhere in between - we would love to welcome you.

Are you a keen gardener? Could you help us keep our Animal Centre grounds neat and tidy?

We're looking for volunteers who can help us with tasks such as weeding, pruning and general maintenance of garden areas and borders. You will also be helping with any new projects such as wildlife garden areas or play areas for children and preparing the grounds for open days and other events. You may also help with lawn mowing and strimming, keeping our grassy areas looking presentable.

Our Volunteer Gardeners play an important role in keeping our Animal Centre grounds looking spick and span. Freeing up time for our staff focus on looking after the animals in our care.

What you will be doing

The skills you need

• Volunteers must be aged 18 or over
• Willingness to pitch in, help out, and get your hands dirty
• Experience in a relevant trade is desirable but not essential as full training will be given
• Some heavy lifting will be involved but full H&S training will be given
• Enjoy gardening and being outdoors

Our voluntary roles are subject to an informal interview and introductory period. Before you can start volunteering you’ll need to complete our simple online Health & Safety assessment. Tetanus is a life threatening bacterial disease caused by an infection in an open wound. In view of this everyone should be vaccinated to prevent infection and we require that all RSPCA staff and volunteers must be suitably protected. Tetanus vaccination is carried out in infancy (3 doses), at pre-school and in adolescence so everyone should have had 5 doses by the time adulthood is reached. This is considered to give lifelong protection although a booster might be considered if an injury is deemed to be high risk. We request that volunteers must check their vaccination history with their GP’s and if fully immunised no further action is required. If a volunteer has not had the required doses, the GP should offer them free of charge as part of the UK vaccination schedule.
