The role will include monitoring their online bank accounts, maintaining their income and expenditure spreadsheet, submitting an income and expenditure report to Trustees ahead of meetings, and assisting the Trustees with the preparation of an annual budget and the financial report to the Charity Commission.
The ideal candidate will be a competent Excel user with experience of preparing accounts. The time commitment required for the role is approximately 1 hour per week, with the Trustees meeting 3 times a year.

What is a Branch Chair?

To do this we need local branches and volunteers who can coordinate people, ensure the local population know about SSAFA and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.
Our branches support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role is about leadership, coordination, and administration. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. The role requires an ongoing time commitment, usually about 2-3 days per week. In addition, you would need to organise and attend regular meetings throughout the year.
What would you be doing?
- Providing leadership to the Branch and ensuring that all activities comply with SSAFA regulations both directly, and through the Branch Secretary, other Branch Officers, and Divisional Officers.
- Providing support and guidance to volunteers in office holder roles, and support with recruitment of volunteers into these positions to ensure the sustainability of the branch.
- Ensuring the financial integrity of the Branch, including the appointment of Treasurers and a local fundraising programme to meet branch running costs.
- Ensuring that all data is processed and held in accordance with SSAFA’s data management policies.
- Monitoring volunteer numbers against the demand for support and working with other volunteers, regional and central office staff to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.
- Ensuring that all volunteers are recruited, inducted, supported, and managed in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.
- Building relationships with regional and central office staff, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA Service committees, local military establishments, prisons etc.
- Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising so that potential clients, volunteers, and supporters know how to contact the branch.
- Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s Central Office
- Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.
- Supporting any salaried branch staff and ensuring that their line management arrangements are working appropriately.
- Resolve any complaints that are suitable for local resolution in accordance with SSAFA’s Complaints Policy and procedures, referring upwards any that are not suitable for local resolution.
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

- Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

They are seeking a new Treasurer to join their existing board in leading the organisation through their next exciting period of change. The role of the Treasurer

The Treasurer ensures that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and reports to the Board’s quarterly meetings about the financial health of the organisation.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Ø Overseeing the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees quarterly meetings.
Ø Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
Ø Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented, and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves, and cost management.
Ø Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity.
Ø Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with Chief Executive.
Ø Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process
Ø Ensuring investments and assets are maximised.
Ø Lead on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors.
Ø Oversee the development and implementation of systems for appraising, mitigating and reporting corporate risk.
Ø Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, for example, the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies.
Ø Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and liaising with the Chief Executive to develop the financial understanding of the Board of Trustees.
Ø Chairing the Board’s Finance & Risk Subcommittee
What we are looking for
Ø A finance professional with extensive experience and a background in finance and accounting. A knowledge of charity finance is an advantage. Otherwise, an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience and an understanding of SMEs.

Ø Clear communicator with the ability to bring the financial information alive to non-finance specialists.
Ø Experience of being a trustee is an advantage.
Ø Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with auditors.

Ø Keep abreast of changes in South Kent Mind’s operating environment.
Ø Contribute to regular reviews of South Kent Mind’s s own governance.
Ø Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
Ø Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect South Kent Mind’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests.
Ø Contribute to the broader promotion of South Kent Mind’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.
Trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

We are seeking Social Media Volunteers to assist our Social Media Marketing Team in creating and distributing engaging content on Hidayah’s social media platforms. Social media is integral to connecting with the Hidayah community, growing our organisational reach and promoting events such as our Queer Book Club, in-house research and educational resources for Ramadan.
We also use our social media platforms to post adverts for volunteers, promote Hidayah’s membership, respond to world news via solidarity statements and signpost LGBTQI+ Muslims to a range of national and international support.
You do not need to be LGBTQI+ or Muslim to be able to carry out this role. However, it is important to have a broad knowledge and understanding of these areas to be able to genuinely engage with the specific audience that follows Hidayah’s social media platforms.
What are the key responsibilities of this role?
Our Social Media Volunteers have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Creating and editing content to distribute across Hidayah’s social media platforms e.g. TikTok and Instagram
- Communicating with other volunteers and the Social Media Marketing Trustee on feedback, suggestions and issues
- Carrying out independent research to obtain quality content and sharing relevant information on Hidayah’s platforms
- Actively engage with people following us on social media
- Promoting events and projects as and when appropriate
- Administration; monitoring inboxes, responding to messages and comments, signposting to the relevant emails, archiving out of date posts
What do we expect from a Social Media Volunteer?

We're looking for a volunteer to fill the role of Trustee and as our Treasurer/Accountant sitting on the Board of Trustees at SUNSHINE. As our Treasurer/Accountant, you’ll lead on the financial management and controls of SUNSHINE, including creating financial systems, processes and policies, lead on banking related matters and register SUNSHINE with HMRC for both Gift-Aid and also PAYE.
You MUST have UK finance experience and an accounting qualification.
You will also act as a Trustee at SUNSHINE, supporting the work of the Board of Trustees, especially at the set up phase and charity registration process.
You will work with fellow Trustees to;
- Lead and participate in quarterly Trustee Meetings and actively take part in discussions and decisions that benefit SUNSHINE and supporting its impact in the community.
- Provide strategic guidance and direction to the organisation.
- Lead on all financial management and controls at SUNSHINE and Report on the financial aspects of the charity and answer questions at board meetings.
- Register SUNSHINE with the Charity Commission and complete Annual Reports and Audits.
- Register SUNSHINE with HMRC for Gift Aid and lead on the management of this.
- Lead on the creation of a Business Plan and a SUNSHINE 3 year Strategy with other Trustees.
- Lead on and contribute to the development and implementation of organisational policies and procedures with other Trustees.
- Lead on fundraising activities that generate much needed income, including grant writing with other Trustees.
- Support and advise the CEO, ensuring a good working and professional relationship.
- Manage relationships with stakeholders, including donors, partners, and community members.
- Ensure that SUNSHINE has the much needed resources and support it needs to carry out its much needed community work.
- Other Trustee duties relevant for a start-up charity.
