Administration Support Volunteer Roles

We are seeking Social Media Volunteers to assist our Social Media Marketing Team in creating and distributing engaging content on Hidayah’s social media platforms. Social media is integral to connecting with the Hidayah community, growing our organisational reach and promoting events such as our Queer Book Club, in-house research and educational resources for Ramadan.

We also use our social media platforms to post adverts for volunteers, promote Hidayah’s membership, respond to world news via solidarity statements and signpost LGBTQI+ Muslims to a range of national and international support.

You do not need to be LGBTQI+ or Muslim to be able to carry out this role. However, it is important to have a broad knowledge and understanding of these areas to be able to genuinely engage with the specific audience that follows Hidayah’s social media platforms.

What are the key responsibilities of this role?

Our Social Media Volunteers have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

• Creating and editing content to distribute across Hidayah’s social media platforms e.g. TikTok and Instagram
• Communicating with other volunteers and the Social Media Marketing Trustee on feedback, suggestions and issues
• Carrying out independent research to obtain quality content and sharing relevant information on Hidayah’s platforms
• Actively engage with people following us on social media
• Promoting events and projects as and when appropriate
• Administration; monitoring inboxes, responding to messages and comments, signposting to the relevant emails, archiving out of date posts

What do we expect from a Social Media Volunteer?

Skills:

• Competency in social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn). 
• Experience using and generating content for TikTok
• Filming competency desirable but not essential

How much commitment is required?

The hours are flexible around your schedule, but typically we envisage this role taking up to 4 hours a week. Monthly catch ups are organised with the Social Media Marketing Trustee to assess workload and availability.

Can you help our four-legged friends get from A to B? We are looking for a friendly volunteer who can dedicate some time and their vehicle to transport our animals between our centres, boarding establishments, and the vets.

As a volunteer driver, you would be able to provide a suitable vehicle that you could use to help us transport the animals in our care. This is so our furry friends can get the veterinary care that they need or to reach one of our adoption units or animal centres. We rescue and rehome around 200 animals each year and provide community help and support with animal welfare in all DA postcodes plus BR8 postcodes.

You will be provided with everything you need to be able to transport our animals safely such as leads, cages etc. as well as any training and support. 

Volunteer Driver responsibilities:

• Transport animals to and from the vets, private boarding establishments and our animal centres within our health and safety guidelines.
• Ensure that RSPCA rules and regulations are complied with.
• Carry out a small amount of administrative work, such as completing mileage returns.
• Use RSPCA equipment to help you transport the animals such as leads, cages, kennels etc.

What we are looking for in a volunteer Driver:

• Drivers must be aged 18 or over, have a valid driving licence, and a vehicle, which is suitable for transporting animals.
•  Someone who can lift animals in and out of the vehicle.
•  A friendly volunteer who has time and patience for each animal.
•  Someone who is flexible and can offer an ongoing commitment for 4 hours weekly.
•  A careful driver!

A bit about this role

Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. Our Cat Welfare Team Leaders have the important role of coordinating, encouraging and supporting teams of fosterer volunteers and cat care volunteers. They help make sure volunteers with direct cat care roles are happy and confident and provide advice and guidance when needed. This incredible teamwork means we are able to help more cats and kittens in need.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Volunteering alongside colleagues including the Branch Coordinator, Cat Welfare team, Branch Development Manager and Vet team to ensure that CP cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied in branch
• Support fosterers to follow Cats Protection cat welfare policies and procedures
• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
• Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified Cats Protection systems
• Attending relevant Cats Protection volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
• With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers using Cats Protection processes
• Represent the branch at relevant meetings
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates

About CARAS :

About CARAS casework:

CARAS works with adults and young people of a refugee and asylum seeker background to find solutions to their problems. There are two separate sub-teams within the Casework team; young people and adults. We support adults to navigate the asylum system, understand their options, access benefits, connect with services and realise their goals. We are a non-specialist casework and advocacy service, so we work in close partnership with other local organisations to whom we refer people with more complex issues.

Using the empowerment model, our casework service embodies CARAS’ values of ‘with not for’, always striving to ensure people are armed with the information and resources they need to make decisions and take action for themselves.

About the Role:

We are currently recruiting for 2 volunteers to join our Adult Casework team. 

The purpose of the Adult Casework volunteer role is to support adults with a refugee or asylum seeking background to understand their rights, access information and services, and ultimately, take control of their own lives. You will work with individuals to address problems they may face relating to, among other issues, asylum support, accessing healthcare and education, access to legal advice and finding activities and opportunities.

You will start from an understanding that individuals are always best placed to solve their own problems, and often need nothing more than to talk out a problem and find the solution themselves. When helpful, you will provide information to clarify and support to take action. 

The Adult Casework team hold a support session at our office in Tooting on Thursday afternoons from 2-5.30pm.  Volunteer caseworkers have 1:1 appointments, either in person or by phone, with CARAS members.  These can be related to a range of topics.  Currently our biggest areas of work are around housing for people seeking asylum, access to college, nursery/school places for children, referrals to mental health providers, searches and signposting to activities, finding solicitors and supporting people to apply for bus passes and ID cards.  Volunteers also support with administrative tasks such as updating our databases, collating resources and creating information guides. 

Adult Casework Volunteer Tasks and Responsibilities:  

• Working in an empowering way with individuals and promoting their independence through goal-setting.  

• Supporting people to develop their knowledge of rights and entitlements.   

• Assisting with filling out forms 

• Signposting and referring onto other services and organisations.  

• Gathering information from experts and disseminating information to people in an accessible manner.  

• Engaging in collaborative internet and phone research on services, organisations and grants.  

• Flagging safeguarding concerns and other issues where further support is required.  

• Keeping accurate casenotes 

• Supporting to maintain our signposting database 

• Researching and collating resources 

• Working collaboratively as a team and assisting to shape the Adult Casework project.

Trustee Vacancy

Care Ashore is a charity with a proud history. Since the 1920s Care Ashore has offered independent living accommodation, respite breaks and support to seafarers in need. Uniquely situated on a 260-acre estate in Surrey, Care Ashore provides accommodation for merchant seafarers and former members of the Royal Navy, the Fleet Air Arm, those who have worked on British Fishing Fleets and others with a maritime link.

With around 60 current beneficiary residents, the charity offers accommodation in purpose-built properties and helps to fund the support provided to beneficiaries with the commercial activities of the estate.

Following a recent recapitalisation and the appointment of a new CEO, Care Ashore is well positioned to improve the quality of the accommodation offered, enhance services delivered to beneficiaries and expand on commercial opportunities on the estate.

The current Board has a mix of backgrounds and experience but wishes to strengthen the diversity further to ensure the needs of those they serve, along with the wider community are met. As a Branch Secretary, you would be in an essential volunteer role as the principal communications trustee managing and maintaining the administrative affairs of our branch. Using your expertise and skills, you will be able to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. We rescue and rehome around 200 animals each year and provide community help and support with animal welfare in all DA postcodes plus BR8 postcodes.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Secretary:

• To act as the primary contact point for all branch communications with the national Society, the branch committee and the branch membership.
• Arrange branch meetings, ensure accurate minutes are taken and distributed in accordance with branch rules.
• Ensure all branch committee decisions are implemented and actions completed.
• Arrange the branch AGM including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations and agenda in line with the strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.
• Arrange the timely dissemination of the contents of all correspondence and literature received by the branch, ensuring availability to all committee members, and reply to all branch correspondence where necessary.
• Order and distribute RSPCA stationery, leaflets, posters and other fundraising and promotional material.
• Liaise with the Branch support specialist (BSS) and group chief inspector and notify them of all branch meetings.
• Advise the BSS of all changes to branch facilities, services and contact details.
• In the absence of the membership secretary, assume responsibility for the maintenance of the branch membership list.
• Submit recommendations for national Society awards to the BSS, in accordance with the wishes of the committee.

LEVEL OF COMMITMENT 

All trustees are required to attend quarterly evening and one full day Board meetings.  Board meetings usually take place at the Baca main office, Loughborough, Leicestershire. As appropriate, meetings could also take place virtually.

In addition to reading papers and preparing for meetings/conference calls, Trustees may be called upon for specific advice if they have particular expertise in a given area. 

According to their individual skills and experience, Trustees may also be invited to serve on Baca’s Finance or Staff & Young People Wellbeing Committees or on ad-hoc Working Groups. Committees meet quarterly, usually in advance of Board meetings.

As an organisation we provide expert advice and information for carers, campaign for greater recognition and support for carers, and use our experience and expertise to help other organisations do more for carers. What would you be doing as a volunteer?

St John Ambulance needs YOU! We have amazing cadet units in Staffordshire, Shropshire & Wolverhampton that are ready to expand and open to more young people in our area and we need volunteers like you!

Being a youth leader is an amazing opportunity for adults aged 18+ to teach valuable lifesaving skills to young people aged 10 – 17 in your area! Volunteering at least two hours per week could make a massive difference to these cadets now and have a real impact on your community.

But it's not all about what you'll give - you will learn a lot too!

As the cadets develop, so will you. You’ll gain communication, listening and presentation skills and grow in confidence. You’ll also have the chance to learn First Aid and take on more advanced roles with training, all while being fully supported by the rest of your team.

Under your leadership, young volunteers will develop their potential, they will learn vital first-aid skills that they can deliver at events and activities around the community. They will gain confidence, make friends and engage in community and social change.

Lay member of JCIE

Summary of the Role

The Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations (JCIE) was established in 1987 by the four surgical Royal Colleges of Great Britain and Ireland. In line with the statutory requirements of the General Medical Council, it is responsible for the supervision of standards, policies, regulations and professional conduct of the surgical Specialty Fellowship Examinations. The JCIE is the parent body for its ten surgical Specialty Boards.

The JCIE is made up of surgeons, including the Presidents of the four Colleges or their representatives, the Chairs of the 10 Intercollegiate Specialty Boards and representatives of national surgical trainees and staff grade surgeons not in training. It meets three times a year, in Edinburgh, where the JCIE staff team is based.

The role of the lay member of the JCIE is to represent the views and interests of a surgical patient, particularly in respect of ensuring that patient safety is at the heart of the Committee’s deliberations and decision-making.

As well as attending meetings of the JCIE, the lay member is required to contribute to the Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Committee (a sub-committee of JCIE).  The business of this committee is covered within the agenda of the three JCIE meetings over the year.  The lay member is also involved in the recruitment of certain positions within the JCIE structure, such as that of IQA Committee Chair. In addition, the lay member may occasionally be asked to join short life working groups on matters relating to the JCIE’s remit.

The appointment is for a term of five years, renewable for up to a further five years.

Duties of the JCIE

The JCIE members collectively have the following duties:

- Keep under general review Examination Regulations in line with changes in training; format and scope in line with changes in curricula for each specialty and conduct of the Examinations in line with good practice.

- Implement agreed policy for all matters relating to the Specialty Fellowship Examinations and make recommendations for change as necessary.

- Ensure on‐going strategic planning and development of examinations.

- Maintain consistency of approach within the Boards and their examinations.

- Ensure the provision of training and guidance for Examiners and to monitor assessment of Examiners’ examining techniques and conduct of the examinations.

- Ensure compliance with the relevant Acts of Parliament e.g. Data Protection and Equal Opportunities.

- Ensure effective quality assurance of examinations.

- Maintain records of results, review and monitor examination outcomes and distribute relevant information to relevant stakeholders.

- Maintain a Register of candidates for each of the Specialty Examinations.

- Notify Colleges of successful candidates for the award of the Fellowship in the specialty.

- Implement Appeals, Complaints, Mitigating Circumstances & Reasonable Adjustments procedure where necessary.

- Ensure that the activities of the JCIE and the Boards are administered on a truly intercollegiate basis.

- Ensure that the necessary framework and efficient administrative / management infrastructure are in place to support the work of the JCIE, IQA and the ten Intercollegiate Specialty Boards.

- Submit audited accounts and draft budgets to the Colleges through the Planning & Review Group.

- Keep under regular review all Regulations and documentation relating to the conduct of the Specialty Fellowship Examinations

The lay member is expected to:

- Support the JCIE Chair and the work of the Committee by diligently preparing for meetings and raising issues relating to the interests of patients, as and when appropriate

- Take steps to become acquainted with the work of the Specialty Boards, the Specialty Fellowship Examinations and best practice in postgraduate assessment

- Participate in any induction, training and evaluation identified as an individual and as part of the Committee.

Personal specification

- Independence from the surgical profession and the process by which trainee surgeons are trained and assessed

- Demonstrable experience of having advocated for patients or patient groups in formal contexts

- Demonstrable experience of discharging a ‘critical friend’ role in formal contexts, including the ability to challenge senior stakeholders appropriately

- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with a willingness to participate actively in discussion, to demonstrate good judgement and discretion in doing so

- Highly developed influencing skills

- A willingness to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a team

- Demonstrable capability to read and assimilate large quantities of complex information

- Understanding of the UK health system and postgraduate education, or the capability quickly to gain such an understanding

We’re looking for a Trustee to join our growing charity – Families Out Loud! 

What is Families Out Loud (FOL)?

Families Out Loud is a small and growing charity, based in Wiltshire, which is run by a group of people who care about family addiction. We’re here to support those affected by other people’s addiction, by enabling people to speak out, without judgement. If you have lived experience of, or an interest in our cause, we’d love to hear from you!
 
About the Role
 
As a Families Out Loud Trustee, you will share our passion of supporting families affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use. You will be committed to the Purpose, Vision and Values of Families Out Loud, working with the board to deliver the charity’s 5-year strategic plan. We’re committed to helping clients rebuild their lives, and to reducing stigma so they can feel confident to speak freely about their own experiences. As a Trustee, you will support this mission by reviewing the work we do on a regular basis, understanding that everything we do is for the public benefit, and within the charity’s purpose. You will work collaboratively with the other Trustees to effectively manage resources, and to ensure compliance with charity law and other legal requiremets. 
 
This is a voluntary position, mainly working from home. You will be required to attend monthly Trustee meetings which are currently held virtually. Occasionally you may be required to attend in-person meetings in different locations across Wiltshire.

Ideally, you’ll have a deep understanding of our community and its unique needs, bringing strong connections within the area. Your reputation and familiarity with the Salisbury area will help build trust and strengthen our charity’s impact on the community. You’ll need strong written and verbal communication skills, and will be able to work as part of a team to make collective decisions. You should be able to think analytically, with a problem-solving approach. Alongside this, due to the nature of the role, you should be able to manage your own time effectively and be well organised.
