The Avon Centre is a riding, therapeutic and outdoor-learning centre based in a wonderful woodland setting by Blaise Castle. We are already recognised for our high standards in our work with Disabled people, including physically, sensory and learning Disabled people, and we are branching out into supporting people facing other forms of disadvantages.
The people who use our facilities gain so much in terms of physical and mental-health, confidence and new friendships.
By joining our Board, you’ll be ensuring we can continue to make a real difference to the lives of the children, young people and adults who use our facilities.
We are looking to recruit up to 3 new trustees. You’ll have a commitment to our purpose and ethos, plus experience in one of the following areas;
• HR
• Land and buildings management
• Funding and finance
The time commitment will vary but you’ll definitely get back everything you put in! The minimum commitment is attendance at 4 meetings per year, held in Bristol at the Centre.
We are particularly interested to hear from you if you have lived experience you’d be willing to share to help us make our services even more accessible.
It would be helpful if you already have trustee or other experience of the voluntary sector but not essential. Whether you are an experienced Trustee or wanting to take the first step at Board level, if you share our ethos, we'd like to hear from you.

Who we are
At Dementia Concern, our primary goal is to empower those living with dementia, here in their local community. With fifty staff and a turnover of £1.1 million, we are exclusively for the people of Ealing, from Southall over to Acton. Their rich diversity is reflected in our staff and clients.
Established in 1982, almost forty years on we are still committed to our central strategic goal to provide amazing person-centred care and support for people living with dementia.
The role
We’re looking to recruit:
Up to 3x Trustees from diverse backgrounds with experience or skills in: Safeguarding, Quality of Healthcare, Law, Health & Safety, Fundraising, Cybersecurity, HR and EDI.
and
1x Chair of the Board
(Trustees do not need to live in London, once they are able to attend two board meetings in person per year, usually held on Wednesdays at 6pm)
Over the last five years of our forty year history, Dementia Concern has been on a mission to reach every person in Ealing living with dementia. We are over halfway there. This Board recruitment campaign is a chance for new Trustees to help us drive forward the charity’s strategy 2024-27 and help us deepen our impact.
A couple of our Trustees will be coming to the end of their second (three year) term on the Board, so we’re seeking to recruit additional trustees and our next chair; our former Chair served from 2020 to 2024 leading the charity skillfully, including through the uncertainties of community healthcare in a pandemic.

To express interest in these volunteer positions on the Board, we are not asking candidates for a formal application in the first instance. We are keenly aware that many good Trustee candidates are very busy people, so we are keeping it simple.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a further stage in the recruitment, which will include a formal application. This will include some due diligence checks, and an initial phone call with one of the interview panel, to tell us about themselves and find out more about the role(s) of Trustee and Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Then, for those invited to the final stage, and wishing to progress, there will be in person meetings at our building: 223 Windmill Road, Ealing, London W5 4DJ which are scheduled for Thursday 24th and Friday 25th October.
New Trustees will be invited to the in-person Board on 13th November at 6pm in Ealing, with some social time included in order to meet Trustees and the Exec.

As the cadets develop, so will you. You’ll gain communication, listening and presentation skills and grow in confidence. You’ll also have the chance to learn First Aid and take on more advanced roles with training, all while being fully supported by the rest of your team.
Under your leadership, young volunteers will develop their potential, they will learn vital first-aid skills that they can deliver at events and activities around the community. They will gain confidence, make friends and engage in community and social change.

We have proudly raised over £34 million for more than 400 UK charities since our launch in 2014. Last year we funded crucial work at 59 charities across the country, granting over £2.5m. A further 20 charities benefitted from access to small grants to achieve a transformational organisation development aim. This financial support will change more than 24,000 lives in the UK, with thousands more family members indirectly benefitting.
This is our ten-year anniversary, and we are at a pivotal moment looking at opportunities to significantly grow and amplify our impact. This is an exciting time to be launching our Philanthropy Development Committee and we are excited to be seeking someone to lead this and join our Trustee Board.
The Role
This is your opportunity to make a real impact for communities across the UK. We’re looking for a driven, passionate, and ambitious individual to join our Board of Trustees and lead our new Philanthropy Development Committee (PDC), with the aim of raising £1 million over the next two years. As Chair of the PDC, you will create this Committee, help shape its terms of reference, and recruit its members, drawing on a mix of high net worth individuals, foundations, and possibly corporates. You’ll be supported by our charity team in these endeavours and will also provide guidance and advice to our team on its outreach. This is an incredible opportunity to make a significant community impact.
Person Specification

We are particularly looking for applications from individuals who are passionate about our ambitions and objectives and have the willingness and ability to invite professional and personal networks to support the charity. - A proven track record of leadership in either the voluntary, public or commercial sectors.
- Experience on committees, panels or boards.
