What will you do?
As a Youth Helper, you’ll be a key part of our dynamic volunteer youth teams, working with children aged 5-10 (Badgers) and 10-17 (Cadets) across East London. Here’s how you’ll make an impact:

Babyzone is a charity which aims to support to families with babies and toddlers. We’re focused on breaking down the barriers that many parents face in accessing high quality early years offers.
Babyzones are currently delivered each week in Youth Zones where we run free exploratory play and evidence-based early years classes in a clean, safe and welcoming environment. We design our approach around the needs of lower income families, but are open to all. Parents don’t sign up in advance, there’s no timetable and we don’t take names and personal details from our families. We believe that by removing barriers we are creating a fully accessible, inclusive place for parents and carers to bring their children to play, read, chat and sing together.
We would love to have a team of Volunteers to help us support and engage with the families who attend Babyzone. We would love for you to do this by:
- speaking with the families, some of which are experiencing loneliness, PPD, poverty, abuse
- play with the children and introduce them to some of the activities we have going on
- keep the play spaces tidy and accessible
- direct the families to the correct support or classes that we run
- support with set up and pack down
You are welcome to choose what hours you'd like to volunteer, as long as they are between 8.30am-2.30pm.

Outline: To manage and support the Scout Group and its Leaders to ensure it runs effectively and that Scouting within the Group develops in accordance with the rules and policies of The Scout Association.
Responsible to: District Commissioner (or deputy if appropriate).
Main Contacts: Section Leaders and their leadership teams in the Group, parents/carers of the young people in the Scout Group, Group Trustees, sponsoring authority of the Group (if applicable), Group Scout Active Support Manager, District Commissioner, Deputy District Commissioner(s), other Group Scout Leaders in the District, County/Area/Region (Scotland) Commissioner.
Appointment requirements: Must successfully complete the appointment process within 5 months of the role start date. The relevant Getting Started modules must be completed within 5 months of the role start date. A Wood Badge must be completed within three years of the role start date and Safeguarding and Safety training completed renewed every three years.
It's expected that whilst volunteering for this role you will undertake regulated activity.
Main Tasks:
- Ensure that the Scout Group thrives and has the best systems in place to support adult volunteers and develop the Group – including a Group Trustee Board and Section leadership teams.
- Provide line management and support to the Leaders in the Scout Group, including setting objectives for their work and holding regular reviews and one-to-one meetings.
- Ensure that the Scout Group has an adequate team of supported and appropriate adults working effectively together and with others to meet the Scouting needs of the area.
- Ensure that a challenging, exciting and balanced programme is offered to young people in the Scout Group.
- Work with the District Commissioner, Deputy District Commissioner(s) and other Group Scout Leaders in the District to ensure that the District thrives and supports Scout Groups.
- Note: Some of the tasks for which the Group Scout Leader is responsible may be delegated to others in the Group, including a Deputy Group Scout Leader, if appointed.

CF’s vision is to ensure no child is defined by their circumstance. To achieve this, CF partners with schools to engage the most disadvantaged children, creating solutions where necessary to ensure no child is left behind.
CF provides children with additional tutoring and healthy meals; delivering tutoring either one to one or in small groups of 3 students to ensure children get the right amount of support to excel through their educational journey.

As a Volunteer Programme Coordinator you will support the daily delivery of sessions, providing trouble shooting to schools and tutors, ensuring tutoring sessions are delivered on time and session notes are uploaded to the shared drive. As the Coordinator you will prepare a debriefing for each school at the end of the day, escalating any barriers to performance and or safeguarding concerns.

As a Business Volunteer, you will work alongside other volunteer mentors and Trust colleagues providing short-term mentoring and guidance to young people or supporting Programme group sessions where expert knowledge, skills or experience (such as language, legal, financial, or sector expertise) is needed. We are currently looking for Business Mentors in Wales.
Our Business Mentors are involved in guiding a young person through regular 1-to-1 mentoring and active support, as they grow the necessary skills and confidence needed to achieve their goals. This may range from providing help, guidance, and support as they identify whether self-employment is right for them, through to remaining alongside them in the early years as their business establishes and grows. You may be helping them to test the viability of their business ideas, launch their enterprise, helping to identify markets and opportunities for growth and will be championing and encouraging them as they navigate the often-difficult early stages of their business journey.
Volunteering can take place at a delivery centre or maybe online, though most likely you will be meeting your mentee in a convenient public location that suits you both.
By volunteering as a Business Mentor you will be directly impacting young people who will benefit from your knowledge, expertise and experience.
Mentoring with The Prince’s Trust is centred around empowering a young person to take ownership of their own journey. For this role we are looking for someone with a good knowledge of the fundamentals of developing and growing a new business. It would be great if you have experience in things like business planning, selling, marketing & finance and are good at building trust with young people from a range of backgrounds. More than this we want you bring to life your experience in a way that empowers our young people to do it for themselves, so being a great communicator, creative, flexible and non-judgemental is essential.
It is important that our business mentors are encouraging, able to give and receive constructive corrective feedback and reinforce learning and progress.
You will be working with young people who have completed our Exploring Enterprise Course which is designed to help 18 to 30-year-olds turn their ideas into a business reality.
If you have a passion and enthusiasm to support young people, many of whom are experiencing significant personal barriers, and could commit a few hours each month, we would love to hear from you!

At Doorstep Library, we’re dedicated to bringing the magic of books and the joy of reading directly into the homes of children who need our support.
With 1 in 4 children in the UK leaving primary school unable to read or write properly, we recruit and train in-person and online volunteers to introduce children from under-resourced areas to the pleasure of reading.
What’s Involved?
As a Doorstep Library reading volunteer, you’ll visit the same families at their homes every week with a backpack full of books to share with the children and encourage their love of reading.
You will:
- Handpick books based on the children’s age, interests, and reading level
- Visit their homes with your volunteer partner for 20-minute reading sessions
- Leave behind a selection of books for the children to borrow for the week
Our unique home-based approach allows our volunteers to build trusting relationships with families, helping them to connect with the community and equip them with the skills they need to succeed later in life.
When and Where?
We have volunteer opportunities in: Hammersmith, Parsons Green, Fulham Broadway, Shepherds Bush, East Acton, Latimer Road, Euston, Kings Cross, Marylebone, Edgware Road, Queens Park, Pimlico, Brixton, Tulse Hill, and World's End.
- Time commitment: One evening a week (Regular Volunteer), one evening every other week (Semi-Regular Volunteer) or once every 3 weeks (Stand-In Volunteer) during school term times
- Hours per week: 2.5
- Days: Our projects run on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays depending on where you are based from 4:30pm – 7:00pm
Skills/Experience Needed
- Be able to make a regular weekly commitment or once every 3 weeks for a Stand-In Volunteer during school term time
- Be compliant with our safeguarding procedures, complete an Enhanced DBS, Child Barred List check, and provide 2 references
- Enjoy spending time with children and believe in education for all
- Have comfortable fluency in English
- Be non-judgmental and respectful of a variety of lifestyles and children’s learning
- Have excellent communication skills – be able to listen to families and communicate effectively with Project Leaders (including via text/emails/calls with Doorstep Library staff)
- Be reliable – always attending a pre-agreed session and giving plenty of notice in advance of absences
- Be friendly – to build good relationships with families, your volunteer partner and the rest of the team
- Be confident – to lead the session or mentor a new volunteer
- Be patient, persistent and flexible – tailoring your approach to each family’s needs

What you will be doing With the demand for wishes being so high, we urgently need to generate vital support to help us to say yes to every eligible child, and that’s where you come in! Once our expert team of Wishgranters have designed a child’s magical wish, we need your time, skills, passion and energy to bring that wish to life and make it a reality!
We need Wish Makers across the UK to help us to:
- Research and reach out to local companies, telling them about the children that are waiting for their wishes right now in their region and asking them to donate their services and goods such as a limousine ride or a hotel stay so that a local child’s wish can come true.
- Rally and inspire your community to raise funds to help pay for the rising cost of wishes, meaning that more children can have their wishes granted in as short a timescale as possible, and they can be part of making that magic happen!
- Work as a team with your fellow local volunteers to organise fundraising events such as balls, school sports days, workplace fundraisers etc that will enable more children to have their magical wishes granted by raising vital funds
- Arrange and deliver special gifts in the run up to the wish to add to the excitement and anticipation for the child and their family, and support with the collection and delivery of local donations for the wish itself, which range from princess costumes to balloons!
- Identify local businesses, community groups and organisations who would be willing to support Make-A-Wish UK and help children waiting in your local region.
- Apply for local funding/Charity of the Year opportunities such as supermarket charity opportunities, local council Mayor’s charities etc that could help to grant more local wishes and be part of something special in your community
- Support our wish families on the day of the wish itself, ensuring everything goes smoothly and everyone involved has a magical experience
The skills you need It truly does take a community of people to grant a wish, and we are looking for special people who want to become part of building these communities around the children that are waiting right now for their wishes to be granted. - Warm, friendly and comfortable interacting with others to create the best experience possible, representing our wish children and their families to make communities feel part of our local mission
- Organised and able to think on their feet if needed; able to be pro-active to identify and develop opportunities in their local community
- Confident speaking about our mission in person and/or online and able to adapt to different audience needs
- A basic level of IT skills are essential for this role, and you will also need access to either a computer or smartphone/device

What you will be doing
- Working with children, young people or families on an individual basis, to help them achieve the desired outcomes of their plan.
- Building positive relationships with children and young people by meeting with them regularly on a one-to-one basis.
- Encouraging children and young people to access resources, groups and activities within their local community, such as after school activities, youth groups and sports clubs.
- Accompanying children and young people to attend meetings or attend on their behalf.
- Supporting children to have their voices heard on decisions that affect them.
- Adhering to Barnardo's policies and procedures at all times, including Barnardo's: Safeguarding; Equality,Diversity and Inclusion; Health and Safety; Data Protection; Confidentiality; Recording policies and procedures.

The skills you'll need
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
- Approachable and welcoming.
- The ability to empathise with children, who may be facing difficult times in their lives.

Our Home-Visiting Service supports families who are experiencing difficulties or suffering stress and who have at least one child under the age of five years.
Our aims are:

Young Enterprise’s Team Programme is an enterprise journey for students who have mild to moderate learning difficulties. Designed to aid young people’s transition from education into independent living and employment, the programme develops confidence and life skills through working as a team to set up and run an enterprise.
This hands-on and highly impactful role involves mentoring and encouraging students with learning disabilities and other complex needs to face the challenges of running a business, and learn critical life skills, in a safe space.
Team Programme Volunteers are primarily based within schools/ colleges supporting a group of students with learning disabilities. They will volunteer alongside school staff to ensure the young people are able to flourish. Young people particularly value volunteers who can attend in person as this support their learning and development of social skills.
The time commitment can be variable depending on the particular needs of the group. At most this will involve around one hour per week, attending weekly company meetings throughout the school academic year, however in some cases may be less frequent than this.
What you will be doing
- Coaching, mentoring, and positively supporting young people with learning disabilities and autism through their business adventure
- Attending regular company meetings within the school environment
- Liaising closely with the lead teacher to achieve the best outcomes for young people
The skills you need
- Patient, encouraging and open-minded
- Open to learning new things, to challenge and in turn be challenged
- Comfortable in the presence of young people with learning disabilities (but no specific experience is necessary)
- Able to commit to attending regular face to face student company meetings within a school . Continuity for this group of young people is particularly important
- Able to communicate clearly and directly with young people with learning disabilities, who may also have communication difficulties
- A creative thinker, able to support young people experiencing additional barriers to overcome challenges
